I bought this first back in 2017 and fell in love. It’s quite a heavy perfume and I would wear this mostly during autumn/winter or during the evenings. It lasts on my skin for days. One spray goes a long way. Stunning!

martin_jsgn

This is Noir de Noir going to work, building a career, picking up responsibilities, closing business deals, sending corporate email to their team saying “this is difficult time, but we are a family in this office and we’ll get through it”.

I like it. Borderline love. Because I LOVE TF Noir de Noir, but the performance post Estee Lauder acquisition almost warrants a class-action lawsuit tbh. I miss how potent and stunning it was. Maybe i will get this one. It will be sans the boldness, darkness, and sexuality of NdN, but this performs well, and I’m also in my mid-30s now and getting serious with my career and doing all of the above. So…….

I don't like patchouli, or at least, I thought I didn't until this beauty earned a permanent place in my wardrobe. At first I wasn't sure what to think when I tried it, mystified. It was kind of cold and metallic, which is not usually what I'm drawn to. I much prefer fuzzy, warm, comfy scents. But that coldness brought something else with it... Velvet? Suede? Chocolate? Why did I suddenly feel like I earned six times my salary? After much sampling and never able to shake off the intrigue, I acquired a bottle. That was two years ago and this remains one of the highlights of my collection.

This is a rose-patchouli masterpiece that means business. It is dark, mysterious - but not gloomy. A subtle, refined enchantress in the rain. She'll bring you under her umbrella, put her finger to her lips to say "hush", and walk with you to a hidden rose garden to tell you a secret.

On me, it lasts about 6 hours with moderate projection. This has become my favorite fragrance for work, especially when I'm getting dressed up. It's smooth, tailored, and assuredly feminine. The wet rose makes it particularly beautiful and elevating on rainy days. The cacao and suede notes are absolute luxury, and blend perfectly with the soapier parts. It transcends seasons and age.

Do not pass up on trying this stunning little black dress of a perfume.

I wore this yesterday for Eid and I have to say it’s a rly powdery light with rose and a little leather. It’s elegance in a bottle, not too strong, the first thing I smell as soon as I spray it is straight up black peppery leather, then it settles in with patchouli, rose, and powdery notes. It does not project as much but it projects enough to signal that you walked in, it’s somewhat basic but classic, perfect for important days like Eid. I will be repurchasing

Fragranooga

Sadly my skin turns this one to almost straight rose with little else. I'll get a bit of leather here and there but the rose is overpowering. Odd because I don't usually have trouble picking up leathers or patchouli or iris in other fragrances, it's like they're just sucked right out of this one on me somehow.

Kyadakyada

Smells expensive. Bentley leather seat expensive. I love it. I would see this worn by a woman in corporate meeting talking really serious business.

Bo_Arwa

High quality fragrance for occasions!!!

Magic2611

This smells like a rich middle-aged man in a white linen outfit, stepping out of a very exotic car!
Elegant, sweet, leathery, bougie...
My reviews come in a picturesque type way.

Aleauv

The iris and leather combo reminded me of Penhaligon's Iris Prima, it gives a dusty and refined aura, rose is clean and soapy, the patchouli-rose combo is not cloying or obvious as many perfumes in this category , this a true masterpiece .

AhmadMo

I love love this fragrance , love patcholi on it love leather , 9/10 . I will buy it again ..

LSAUG

A unisex leather patchouli rose with a. Slight fruitiness. This. Is a strong true leather. Very rough. If you like a strong leather this is a good one. Patchouli is dark damp and earthy. The fruity notes add a subtle sweetness. The rose is a deep red rose. A wonderful blend. Very strong and long lasting. My husband will wear this one though. I find it leans masculine for my taste.
Edit: personally I find this offering much better than orchid leather. A much bolder statement which is what a leather fragrance should be.

Edit: my husband dislikes all the iris in this. He is not the biggest iris fan. However I adore iris. I just got this decant back. It is unisex for sure.

alternateu

This reminds me of Gris Dior, but a softer, rounder, more blended version. I have both, and sniffing them side-by-side:
Moonlight Patchouli, to me, is perfectly balanced between the rose and the patchouli - they complement each other beautifully and wind into each other, forming this lightly chocolatey, lightly green, very elegantly understated patchouli and rose. The rose here is ever-so-slightly sweet as well, which adds a beautiful complement to the perfume. Gris Dior is also very nice, but is more "rose" dominant, and the patchouli in Gris Dior is ever-so-slightly crisper.
Absolutely stunning - love at first spray on paper and on skin.

This is a nice rose-patchouli fragrance. It opens a bit dark and damp (like wet soil), and then I get aldehydes. The aldehydes give a soapy, and almost cold/metallic effect. As it develops, the woody notes emerge along with the iris which gives the suede effect; I don't get any leather in this. In the far dry down I can get just a hint of cocoa. But overall, this is an aldehydic rose-patchouli that is unisex, perhaps just slightly feminine leaning. This reminds me of Perles de Lalique, or a less animalic version of Coriandre. I know some others have commented that this has poor performance, but this lasts all day on me with decent projection.

AnivadGC

This is such a beautiful scent!

Wonderful fall fragrance, I always get compliments when I wear this. It smells of quality. In the beginning, it’s powdery and rosy, slightly sweet. Then it becomes woody and leathery.

I think it has a moderate projection. Biggest problem of this scent is the lasting power, it only lasts about 2-3 hours on me. Considering the price and it being an eau de parfum, this is definitely disappointing. Do consider this before adding to your collection.

Moonlight Patchouli is another high-quality, elegant composition from Van Cleef & Arpels, an underrated perfume house with great modern offerings at reasonable price points. While MP isn't as much of a stand-out compared to Precious Oud or Santal Blanc, it is still is impressive. The leather accord is more prominent than the patchouli of the title to my nose. It feels like it should be disjointed, given its slightly unusual combination of notes, but is actually cohesive throughout,

MP opens with soft, powdery florals, quickly giving way to a smooth chocolate-patchouli accord. It is dry and subtle, made more so by the woody notes that follow. Some powdery rose remains, the most prominent floral, complemented nicely by the patchouli.

As it develops, the smooth leather base slowly comes to the fore, clean and refined. It becomes more suede-like as it progresses. The powdery florals complement it nicely. I get very little patchouli at the later stages. The sweet, fruity base notes follow, more like fruit-flavoured sweets than real fruit - not to my taste, but melding well with the leather. It fades to a musky, leathery skin scent with sweet fruitiness remaining until final fade. Sillage is moderate, and longevity is surprisingly long-lasting.

Another subtly luxurious scent from Van Cleef & Arpels, MP is a feminine-leaning, transeasonal everyday scent. The fruitiness is not to my taste, but it is a decent composition made with high-quality ingredients overall. 3.5/5.

I have a bottle that I want to swap, contact me if interested.

Glyph

There are many rose/patchouli dominant fragrances because it's one of the most beautiful pairings in perfumery. This is one of the most transparent and elegant examples among them, thanks to the careful blending and the absolutely first-class ingredients used here. This doesn't project as heavily as others of this type, but that's in part why it's so sophisticated. This is an instant rebuke to anyone who complains patchouli has to be a "hippie" note--I could easily imagine this on a beautifully dressed man or woman at a society function.

zebra782

The ingredients used to make this fragrance are of extremely high quality, you can tell the second you spray it on your skin, the patchouli+rose combo is always intoxicating when it's well mixed.

violeteme

The opening is almost a bitter patchouli/leather, very hippie, it seems it's going to stay that way, but it softens a lot drying down and reaches the softness similar to Narciso's For Her EdT. After the opening fades away, it seems like this is a perfume combined by Noir de Noir and that one Narciso. There is a soft jammy/gourmand tone underneath, but, for example, the new release Moonlight Rose accentuated that jammy rose part much more. If you want a more subtle version, this is the one, if you are seeking for a sweeter version, test Moonlight Rose.

torres_jake

I love this! I love the leather in this. Patchouli, rose, and leather. It screams elegance and class. 9.5/10

Ryanou

I found this quite similar to Tuxedo . Patch n rose combo

Lotte_Liese

I have been able to sample 4 Van Cleef fragrances but Moonlight Patchouli was top of my list to test. It is all I could have hoped for. Classy, sophisticated, mysterious and powerful- this fragrance is a presence of its own. So what do I smell? To be honest, all the notes make an appearance but suede, patchouli and roses are the top performers while the others dance and iris lingers. There is nothing 'aging' about this fragrance. In fact, I associate it with Santana's Smooth, it is a smooth ageless fragrance that requires more confidence than maturity to pull off. It could pass as unisex. Even better is Patchouli Blanc.

grafgr

Unbelievably weak, I can't even talk about longevity. It was gone before I could have an opinion about it.

Royalfalcon

Classy elegant sophisticated , best patchouli perfume in the most luxurious way

Adnan shabir

Gris Dior in a different brand and bottle !

Lara_540

I can definitely smell the leather, i’m not a fan of leather scents but i found it overpowering in this perfume. I initially thought leather is one of the top notes because of how strong it smells. As for the longevity, it doesn’t last long at all. It stays for an hour or two max. Not worth the money, i definitely regret purchasing this one, the mix just doesn’t seem right.

RGH01

Moonlight patchouli opens with bright and creamy florals of rose and iris, with a subtle hint of sweet fruity accents before developing a smooth earthiness coming from patchouli and cacao. In the base the creamy rose and iris remain a constant, but with an added depth and darkness from the leather, patchouli and suede.

I’m not sure why this is listed as a chypre fragrance as it doesn’t contain the right notes or structure to be a chypre. Nevertheless this fragrance is mind blowingly good, especially for the price this can be found at. It’s dark, mysterious, romantic and alluring - perfect for date nights and evenings all year round. I feel it’s perfectly unisex too.

This fragrance perfects the rose and iris combination with fantastic quality of ingredients. Van Cleef & Arpels created a masterpiece here and it’s a shame the house as a whole is so underrated. This is a must try if you love leathery florals and will always have a place in my collection.

Made by Kouros

Moonlight Patchouli is smooth and soft like Roberta Flack singing Feel Like Makin' Love.

Rose and iris. Patchouli and dry cacao powder. Hint of soft suede leather.

It has a peculiar type of soft performance like it has a sordino on, or you are seeing something through a glass. Or like a stronger scent, but far away. It's subdued, restrained, holds back. Pulls you closer.

It' unisex, but I might prefer this on a man - a well-dressed, self-assured man, as one has to be for rose and iris. The iris is dry, non-lipsticky; the rose note is similar to the one in Cartier Declaration d'un Soir, as is the formal feel. Moonlight Patchouli feels just wrong on a Monday morning. It's a dressed-up evening scent through and through, and an exceptionally classy one at that.

MrsPress

This opens on the harsh side, quite similar to TF Tuscan Leather. Later it turns into something reminiscent of Armani Prive Cuir Amethyste. It’s such a noticeable change that it’s like wearing two different fragrances. I very much dislike the opening, I like the dry down, but not sure it’s worth suffering through the opening. I blind bought it…I know, I know…and now I’m hoping that if/when I decide to revisit it, that there will be some saving grace in the opening 🤞🏼.

BGBG

Rose is stronger than patchouli in this fragrance and it makes it feminine leaning. A little bit too much feminine for me. The dry down is very musky and the longevity is phenomenal. It is way better than the Parfum version.

lmnsvgz

Quite gentle for a patchouli fragrance. Earthy, a bit sweet, not very loud.

BGBG

Nice patchouli. Very long lasting. Too feminine to my taste because it is very floral. First the rose and then the iris. Strangely enough, it makes me think of Dior Homme Parfum in the dry down.

princesslopez4890

I have this fragrance and it smells amazing. Just recently started playing with it so I can’t say much about longevity. I also have a 10ml of noir de noir and it definitely reminds me of that as well.

Elindio

Sur papier sèche en noir edp de Tom Ford

kdawg

Smells AMAZING but just doesnt last very long. Sticks close to skin. Id still just buy it for the smell.

Swashbuckler9x

I personally hate the idea of this fragrance, a powdery patchouli that leans slightly feminine.

But it smells oh so fucking good.
My favorite patchouli on the market, signed and stamped.

Forbiddenjade

Revisiting this masterpiece once more. Say what you wish folks, but this isn't a unisex fragrance. It oozes femininity from first spray to dry down!!! Perhaps some men could get away with wearing it if layered with something else, but it's a Ladies - capital L - fragrance.

Very sophisticated, incredibly balanced but with very poor performance sadly.

Leatherose combo with a woody back-up. The woods here are soft and cozy, the rose just a subtle nudge in combo with a glorious patchouli, creating a sensual, extremely feminine accord. No iris note that I can detect, no powderiness. It's dark in the most mysterious, seductive possible way. But light seeps through at times, crowning a beautiful red rose. It makes me imagine of a vampiresse of grand class, ladylike and choosy, never moody, extremely naughty. In private. Pure hedonism, that does it.

Absolutely divine!

Sod the poor performance, I'll never be without this.

markromeo5

This is ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS 😍😍😍
the leather and rose combo is OUT OF THIS WORLD 💕
Sadly its a skin scent...
if only projection was good! But hey i don't care, yeah its that goooood
Please DON'T DISCONTINUE it!

etee

I wish this one lasted longer. Pro tip: Fill a tester bottle with it and wear it before entering somewhere. Overall amazing smell.

markromeo5

A Masterpiece with a Horrible performance.

Tamina

Very sexy.. reminding me of Nouez moi by HOS, but with different price tag ;)

markromeo5

This is patchouli, rose and leather.
No cocoa no iris and maybe a hint if fruits

BG92

although great scent (rose+leather rather than patchouli) it lasts only two hours on me, very subtle.

If you like bold and strong perfumes, this is a no-go

marialena888m

I adore this one. The perfect scent for summer evenings (or anytime really). I feel like it could be my signature. But a pity that I can barely smell it, maybe I need to take a break from my sillage-beasts for a week, and try wearing this again, I feel like my more nuclear scents have ruined my nose for gentler fragrances such as this one. I know I smell good wearing it, and I can smell it vaguely in the air around me, but I have to stick my nose to my wrist to fully savor it’s beauty. So what does it smell like? It has an ethereal, romantic feel to it that I love, it’s dark, yet soft and fuzzy…rose, iris, a damp, green patchouli, a velvety nuance from suede, a teasing touch of bitter sweetness from cacao, a hint of vague watery sweetness from some fruit (can’t seem to figure out what fruit? Is it pear?). It is evocative of being in a dew drenched garden in the moonlight. The only other scent I’ve tried that has conjured the same image in my mind is OG Midnight Poison. No, they don’t smell alike, apart from both of them being rose-centered and damp/earthy-patchouli dominant, but the vibes are similar. Moonlight Patchouli is gentler and more delicate, it’s a clean and very refined scent, smooth, and not at all heavy. Unisex, but to me, it leans feminine, for example, dark scents like Dior Addict and Midnight Poison are more ‘masculine’ to me than this, imho. It doesn’t last beyond 5-6 hours on my skin but I can still smell it on my clothes at the end of the day. Sillage depends on how much you spray, anywhere from intimate to strong. I love layering Moonlight Patchouli with just a light spray of Mancera’s Choco Violette (1 part Choco Violette to 2-3 parts Moonlight Patchouli) when I want a little more oomph, perfect combo (if you like chocolate, but still want to smell elegant), and they complement each other beautifully, if you have both scents, do try it.

AHperfume

I own sandalwood (خشب الصندل) from Ibrahim Al Quraoshi smells 98% the same and also long lasting, yeah it’s a clone of!🤐

SmellyDog

Rose, patchouli, leather, but the iris..

Dethroned gentleman givenchy reserve privee as my favourite iris incorporated fragrance.

queen of arabia

The opening scent isn’t the best however as the scent cools down it gets better and better, projection 8/10, compliments grabber, ideal for winter

TaniaClamp

Moonlight Patchouli is a blend of patchouli, rose and suede. It's a kind of nude suede that gives this fragrance a lot of softness and tenderness. It makes this a warm, soft and pleasant scent. I would call this a white chypre.

I love it and it´s very longlasting, sits close to the skin and it´s just delicous.

I can not imagine my life without this one 💓 !!!

Dramaloladiva

This is so beautiful! It is a dark floral. But very dark, deep and sensual…picture Romeo climbing up a wall covered with red roses (thorns and all) at midnight to get a glimpse of beautiful Juliet.
This perfume evokes a passionate love (albeit doomed). I think the presence of the leather in it gives it its darkness and depth but the rose and the patchouli tame it down enough that the whole composition smells very classy and put together.

Is it close to Bottega Veneta? No, not in my opinion. BV has an overwhelming dose of leather in it that feels unbalanced (at least, on my skin). Moonlight Patchouli smells very well balanced with each note singing in perfect unison. It is neither too sharp nor too earthy nor too dirty nor too floral. It is beautiful and the perfect choice for a sexy date night.

Gems84

I’m a bit of a patchouli lover at this point. When I see patchouli in the notes it’s always a sure fire hit for me. Straight off the bat I get the earthy patchouli, it’s more of a dirty patchouli vibe which I personally like, however it’s the dry down where the magic happens and that’s what hooked me. On my skin it turns in to the most beautifully blended sophisticated Bulgarian rose patchouli fruity scent. I wouldn’t say it’s a safe blind by, I imagine it’s a love or a hate fragrance, but for me it’s a love.

chlorodream

I was lucky to find an inexpensive sample of this on eBay.

I get a very beautiful rose with undertones of suede, mostly - the earthy patchouli note doesn’t seem to come across on my skin with this one, which surprised me! I can kind of tell that it’s there, faintly, but this is a beautiful rose, underpinned with smooth suede, on my skin.

I have to say, as a lover of peppery patchoulis there was a side of me that was a little disappointed, but it’s such a good smooth rose juice that it doesn’t matter one bit.

One thing I can say about this house, after trying just 2 of their fumes is that I can tell no matter which offering you wear, you will smell expensive. Do I love this rose more than the melancholy, watery rose of Paul Smith’s Rose? No. But it’s a very very close second. I’m giving the rest of my tester to my brother’s girlfriend as this is so completely up her street.

DarkwaveJunglist

Sprayed on tester: Unisex leaning traditionally feminine; Upscale city by the ocean at night, under a full moon; surrounded by fragrant roses.

On skin: Very strong, but fantastic smelling rose. Probably not a great office or airplane travel scent unless you put it on a couple hours before leaving your home. Everyone in the room will be smelling it like they're sitting next to you until it has a couple hours to dry down.
Rose garden on a cool summer day with the tiniest hint of new leather.
The iris occasionally peeks through the rose and disappears again.
After dry down: Finishes with a deep rose, almost raspberry / (smoky/powdery?) vanilla.
Perfect for an outdoor party in the spring.

abhijit7011

Call me crazy, but this perfume smells like a medieval, courtly murder scene... under the moonlight. A romantic murder involving spies, kings and queens and courtyards in the pitch black of night in some forlorn and forbidden medieval garden invaded by moon's dark, subdued haze where death causes no bloodshed or has any consequence - death per se. But i digress

The opening is a warm soft haze of delighful pathouli with a creamy kind of rose and a touch of cacao (barely noticeable... i'd have hardly known its there had i not consulted the notes here)... suede emerges, which promtly betrays traces of harsher leather. cacao takes centrestage wrapped in a bouquet of fecundating roses while Iris lends a little sweetness to this mouth watering composition. It is more or less a linear scent but who's complaining? There's a lot going on to focus on individual notes and accords except the rose, which is really prominent and discernible like the large of the moon in the dark of night. This and Menditorrosa Le Mat for me are quintessential genderless roses (both in courtship with their earthly lover, Mr. Patch), nevermind POAL, Lyric, RONML etc. Master errr... Senior perfumer Sonia Constant is a favorite who has been amazing with flowers, especially roses. just look up her resume!

I would call this a nonrepresentational perfume, by which i refer to those perfumes which do not hark back at familiar olfactory motifs and standards, but trace new ones; a tracing of a past world interspersed with the future. I mean, isn't that why we wear or smell perfumes in the first place? Resurrect the past, evoke the future! Memories, dreams, reflections. See myself wearing it on a mysterious date night... spying or being spied upon, waiitng to die a sweet romantic inconsequential death for no reason while walking hand in hand with a king's forbidden daughter. but i digress..

zebra782

It wouldn't be right to describe anyone who wears this any other way than classy, this is a really well done luxurious fragrance, top notch quality from opening to dry down.

I wouldn't personally wear it, but I can certainly appreciate it.

Spicy89

A moonlit garden after the Rain.
Nearby In the garden Roses, iris and patchouli grow.

A really nice patchouli perfume with some rose and a soft wearable leather.
Sits pretty close to the skinn, only those closest to you smell it in the air for the first 1-2 hours.
But it lingers on your skinn for 7 hours+ and smell really beautiful.

Elle's Bells

I'm wearing this right now as I head to bed. A beautiful, subdued patchouli fragrance and the dry down opens with a whisper of iris. Smells, luxurious and makes me feel sultry. Excellent sillage. Still wondering why I slept on this fragrance for so long...

perfumewave

I get mostly leather from it. I can smell the patchouli and flowers but think I get the iris more than the rose. And it has a sweetness. It sits close to the skin. I can appreciate leather perfumes but there wasn't a point in my life that I said "yeah I want to smell like leather today". So it's a no for me.

reaabf

I just got it, sprayed it like 10 minutes ago and a LOVE from first sniff, the best patchouli ever ( to my nose), however I will give my final take on it when full wearing. (it triggered the most beautiful memory ever.)
edit on 01/02/2022 : after wearing it for one week , my final review is : The best patchouli ever, a Love for sure, so elegant and refined, bit linear , yet gorgeous.

Violinplayah

It’s the coldest week of the year probably, with snow and ice on the ground, and this fragrance is really beautiful tonight. The elements that seemed a humid muddle in warm weather are glowing beautifully tonight. It really does have the feel of velvety nighttime with a cold shimmer of moonlight.

Mina Abdo

High quality patchouli based fragrance.

Lodos

This beauty is surely one of the most natural and well blended patchouli based fragrances I've ever smelled. The opening is ultra pleasing, the mix of patchouli and cacao is so adorable. Suede contributes more towards the dry down, which gives it a bit of a luxurious touch. This fragrance feels cold in a pleasant way. Would not recommend it for summer.

La grande bellezza

Unisex. It's the smell that captures the outdoor atmosphere. Cold air meets elegance. In this vein I have Lalique Perles, Bottega Venetta Eau Legere - I love on my wife! It is like you're somewhere at corporate party in an expensive elegant hotel, and around after midnight you organize spontaneous walk with friends outside - to the empty street or to a nearby park. You all are warm from the alcohol drinks. You feel the cool air of the night. You know you can come back anytime to the luxury hotel, but you enjoy spontaneous change. The more you are out in the cold air, the more you will enjoy returning to a warm luxurious environment. There's still a role inside corporate party. Here outside, on fresh air it's you all by nature. ...Or vice versa...

Mina Fouad

Van Cleef Arpels.. "moonlight patchouli" it's very sexy compo between patchouli .. iris .. leather with a fruity touch .. excuse me .. I loved it more than my Dior's Parfum !.. it's a woody Chypre fragrance with a balanced above moderate projection ..signed by the sexy french perfumer Sonia Constant 💄🍫🌹💝

Raquel73

This smells like Folklory Al Ward Pink Rasasi, but somewhat softer, I can pick up some iris iris but very subtle. I was expecting more of an Iris / chocolate combo, but no. In the end I get a fruit / suede mess, not very nice.

hadassa

Amazing velvety patchouli, rose, and cocoa powder. I almost dismissed the fragrance because the opening is unpleasant, smelling of something "chemical" that I feel in many other modern perfumes, for example in Roses Musk and other Montales and Manceras - some peppery, metallic, almost stale note, probably some fixative. Thankfully, it goes away soon, and it also does its job - MP lasts for a very, very long time, and has a massive sillage.
It does not remind me of Bottega Veneta at all! I have it and love it, - and all its flankers. There's no suede, no fruitiness here. There is no similarity to Noir de Noir either, sorry.
For me it's very close to Tempo by Dyptique and L'Instant de Guerlain Intense (or Extreme) pour Homme (marketed as masculine), plus some rose.
It also reminds me a lot of a less dark, less dramatic, less mysterious-Gothic-castle Borneo by Serge Lutens (which is really hard to find nowadays unfortunately).
Definitely FB worthy for me.
Lots of patchouli, but of a very glamourous, smooth kind. Not green, not dirty, - just a tad earthy, chewy, very much chocolate-like.
If you like patchouli and patch-rose combos, and if you love Santal Majuscule, Borneo, Tempo, Coromandel EDP, Coco Noir - go for it. Totally unisex, very elegant and refined, just bear through the unpleasant opening.
Might be a bit too much for summer, it's rather a spring and autumn perfume.

Wwoman

I love the notes in this in theory, but in practice it just smells like leather on me. I'm not a huge fan of strong leather/suede scents. Even after the dry down, the leather persists. So this is a strong no for me. Just in case your skin chemistry reacts like mine and you are leather scents shy, I recommend getting a sample first.

Fragranceluva4u

I sampled this at Neiman Marcus a few years ago and thought it was simply divine. I just purchased a full bottle and didn’t like the initial blast. It gave a lipstick/makeup smell. As time went by, the rose, patchouli and spicy notes came out and it’s exactly what I remembered from a few years ago. This fragrance is soft, elegant and very smooth. I love the heavy black bottle. Class all the way!!

Overall rating 10/10

alittleofeverything

I traded my Vetiver Velours for this in a blind swap based on the notes - and I'm so happy I did, this is amazing! Heavy patchouli in the opening -the clean, sweet-smelling kind, not the patchouli used in Angel that always remind me of rank body odour, followed by sweet dark jammy rose on a base of dry, slightly dusty leather. I love it. I can't wear Bottega Venetia as it carries too many memories, but this hits the same spot and is even better. Love it.

tulpe

Tried it today for the second time, i love patchouli-rose combo, this seems light and bearable patchouli, for the daytime, its both strong and subtle dare to say,as patch and rose dries down after 30-45 min, then skinclose a tad sweet, but oh so lovely, put together and elegant, sure on my wishlist.

Jacqueline7nt

Initial spray is strong on the patchouli, with some rose maybe. I find it too strong at the beginning.
By dry down, i smell a fruity, rose, leathery suede blend with patchouli. Not nice enough for me to purchase a full bottle but blended rather well so if you like a fruity/ rosey leather, you will probably like this.
I am not sure about this, but i think it reminds me of Valentino Donna. But i can't find my Donna to check.

aldinatic

The initial spray is really harsch/hard on the rose.. but masculine.. the dry down gets better.. more patchouli suede and fruits.. it reminds me on Givenchy -Eaudemoiselle.
When to wear-i usualy like to wear patchuli scents outside.

_christine_

Wow. I'm am blown away by this fragrance.

The patch is herbal and clean, rather than cloying and sweet. The rose, iris, and leather are so perfectly balanced. The fruit and cocoa are mostly in the background supporting the overall composition.

The whole fragrance is a gem.

SweetBriar

This stuff is so good! It smells so very much like Portrait of a Lady without the rose. I love to wear it to bed and get it all over my sheets. My bed smells so amazing for days.

al.azraq

I usually don't like patchouli (nauseating), but I love this scent.
It's very familiar. It smells exactly like a person who just came home from the outside (this outdoor air smell) wearing a suede jacket and still smelling just a little bit of a floral fragrance he used in the morning.

annastrike86

The best for hot summer night! Dream! I love It so much!

lepalm

I hadn't read any reviews or even the listed notes before trying this. By the name alone I was expecting a dark patchouli centric perfume. I was very surprised at how it actually developed.

1st blast from the sprayer was rose and patchouli and I got so excited thinking it was going to be similar to Midnight Poison. That initial blast lasted literally from sprayer to skin... mere seconds... and then immediately changed. The rose and patchouli disappeared and iris and suede took center stage. So now it started smelling more like L'Artisan Skin On Skin than Dior's Midnight Poison. Then I would catch the tiniest whiffs of rose as I moved and I could smell patchouli if I put my nose directly to my skin. It remained a somewhat sweet powdery iris suede scent for quite a while. Then a few hours later I'm catching more of a fruity accord.

This one is not linear and it doesn't unfold through the top, heart, and base notes as they are listed on the fragrantica page. They just show up randomly and float around until they don't and then they might just show up yet again.

This one is so interesting! Not at all what I expected. If I had to pick the main notes here I'd say iris/suede/leather/fruit. The rose and patchouli are there for support but barely perceptible after the initial spray.

tandem_4x4

It's a strange perfume.

It opens with strong patchouli, almost like patchouli oil, but later patchouli completely disappears leaving you with the rose and leather.

If you are after patchouli fragrances - it is not for you as patchouli will disappear almost instantly. The name is confusing.

It does not seem well blended as notes are falling apart, like is you are sniffing 3 different perfumes at a time.

Violinplayah

I don’t understand why patchouli is rated so high- like Precious Oud from the same line, this fragrance seems to be named for a note that is barely there. I get lots of fruits, light fruity rose and a bit of suede. A likeable scent but a bit boring, or maybe just restrained. From the notes and name I was hoping for something either interesting or at least dramatic but this is neither. It’s formal, aloof, sophisticated- a sister of Dior Gris Montaigne.

ecojoe69

The moment I sprayed it on, I though "Wow, a woody patchouli"! I loved it. In just a couple minutes the wood went away and was replaced by rose and patchouli. I would think this on a woman would be amazingly sexy. For a woman, lovely.

mchris.cav

In my personal opinion, this is nothing to write home about. I'm a bit surprised it's getting the praise it is. That said, I don't hate it. BUT I won't be wearing this. I plan on gifting this to a female friend.

At Niemann Marcus, I was meticulously sampling every Van Cleef cologne, and after a solid half-hour, chose this lucky winner out of all the others to make a sample to take home.

I found it interesting at the store and hoped it would surprise me in the drydown on my skin. I kinda knew then i didn't like it as well as others, but based on my love of patchouli, was hoping it would surprise me. So i took home a sample.

In hindsight, for the ladies, I think California Reverie is a much better fragrance than this one if you don't mind florals.

Now for my actual review.

This is a soft-spoken, dark and dusty, ever so slightly boozy, leather/rose/woody/patch frag, in that order. Not a patchouli-centric fragrance as someone else mentioned. The patch hides in the background. It's more of a leather frag honestly. No fruity notes that i can detect, but it is sweet. I get a sweet vanilla-flavored coffee with cacao and leather in the drydown, rose is there too. Definitely leans more feminine. I would actually really love this on a woman, but not on myself. This is like a dark and dusty rose almost.

Not very versatile, would have to fit the occasion. When would you want to smell like leather with rose and cacao? know what i mean? I agree with what many have said, something you'd wear at night during a full moon by the sea.

Is a bit "musky" smelling or powdery as some have said, but I think it's the leather/suede notes that are creating this effect, not actual musk.

For what it is, i think it was blended well, but it's not for me. Could be good on the right woman.

I'd rather wear Zum patchouli body mist any day.

Nikolett

Can't get over how beautiful this fragrance is! OMG!In the opening I got roses , but the drydown is all about soft, delicate blend of patchouli, iris and leather. I guess the iris and the rose makes it a little bit soapy. Not too much, just an appropriate soapiness that makes it elegant.
A special, unique perfume .
Need a full bottle of this gem!

AMajeedQT

Soft, herbal patchouli.

Green & herbal musky patchouli, supported by a soft rose note, & made richer with a lightly-spicy suede/leather accord.

Calm, soft, & charming.

Moonlight Patchouli is an accurate name. This is feels romantic & attractive. It is what you would want to wear on a moonlit walk, on a cool night, in a garden.

Possibly the best patchouli I've smelled, along with Al Jazeera 18K.

"Love"!

Scharbau

I love this one! Warm, Rich, smooth and beautiful ! Most for evening - but gisp I love it ;)

elledeelee

At first I quite liked it on my skin, very gorgeous to start with then becomes more peppery and spicy as it dries down. A very good patchouli scent that is nicely blended, but not the best one ever - it feels quite warming but it's no Lord of Misrule! Lasted a long time on me and eventually became a touch annoying to my nose. A pass.

Don Pitralon

If it kept smelling as the first minute after opening, it would be a superb unique 10/10. Really nice boozy patch with some unidentifiable object in the background. Mysterious, sophisticated. When the prominent rose emerges after a while, the thrill is gone (it is not there at the very beginning - happens to me a lot with roses - same impressions with SL Fille de Berlin). It is still nice classy and sophisticated and most definitely unisex, but I’m not a big fan of rose. I cannot stand it on my skin for too long. And since it lost its unique charm, I do not feel obliged to give it a second chance. Short and ephemeral affair under the moonlit sky:-)

saatwik

Opens with an aromatic patchouli with rose and a ripe fruit/boozy undertone. Fades to a leather-wood vibe, reminds me of Duro by Nasomatto here - an enjoyable progression. Projection - 7/10, longevity - 7/10.

oana.ignat

Very special scent, reminds me of perfumed barbie dolls plastic hair, has a very creamy patchouli, smells like a night out when in love. Good projection, long lasting, one of my top 5 !

The opening of MP reminds me of cool nights in Istanbul near the seaside with a view of the Bosphorus.

Top notes of this are absolutely gorgeous to me, like the 'smell of the night breeze' with a hint of rose. Sadly, to me the drydown is very juicy roses (guess it's from the fruity note).

Definitely a cold night classy fragrance, otherwise roses will be cloying.

Opening: 9.5 / 10. Drydown: 8 / 10.

CybeleN

To my nose more feminine, of Chanel-like silky smooth quality, almost a toned down version of Coromandel with a generous but not overbearing dollop of rose added. It is a peculiar mix of elegant, clean and sexy. Immensely wearable, great longevity, feels skillfully blended with quality ingredients. --After spending another day with it: during the long drydown it becomes cleaner and more unisex, and I am reminded of Egoiste's rosewood but quieter and of smoother texture. It stays similarily lush and sophisticated through all stages, rare and beautiful!

Serafim74

Love the opening note and that is what persuaded me to buy it. Even the middle notes are alluring. But the dry down hours later, even the residue next morning is off putting for me..and I think it is the suede.. not my cup of tea.. shame, because everything else works. It is a mature person scent though, imo.

Bubbles1964

Opening is suede and rose over a thin, watery patchouli. As Moonlight Patchouli dries down it becomes softer and easier to wear when a powdery note and iris enter. This goes from Uber masculine to Uber feminine, with defined stages.

Good quality scent but it’s too sharp and masculine in the opening for me.

Bigsly

I got more fruitiness from this than most others apparently did, and nothing I'd call leather, other than the listed suede (and that's light). Also, while there is a hint of something chocolate-ish, I would have liked that note to be stronger. The patchouli is there but weak. I guess they were going for more of a blended effect, and it does smell nice. However, it's not edgy or a statement-maker, unless perhaps you use several sprays. I think Phoneix by Keith Urban executes this general idea better, though the prices on that one are now in the stratosphere, so it's no longer the "cheapo" option it once was. I look forward to wearing it again, in the hopes that more nuances will be revealed.

görkem.coşkun

Wonderful piece of work.I weared it with such pride last winter and spring. It even used to be my signature parfum at that time. And I have been frequently asked about it and got compliments. Two of my colleagues bought it after asking me what I was wearing. However then I realized after half an hour that it transformed to nothing but 2 things: 1- powder make-up (orris used to be in the ingredient list , but now somehow not shown) of a furr wearing lady from 80s 2-Women lipstick. After having heard the same analogie from 2 other colleagues too, I had to abandon my ex-signature parfum with hardest feelings.

champagnequeen

I purchased this perfume about a year ago. A few weeks after I purchased it I was at a BBW and tried their Rose Quartz body spray. It is the first few seconds of the top notes of this beauty. As a body spritz there is not much longevity. But if you are looking for something to layer with this BBW also had the scent in a body oil.

This scent is one of my favorite rose and patch combos.

Vegas Pauli

I tried this on at Neiman Marcus and feel in love with it, so much so I tracked it down on line and found a tester at a really reasonable price. Well, after wearing it for a week, my love lessened to a solid like. This is good quality stuff, it just wears odd. As heavy and potent as it starts, it quickly becomes a skin scent. A rich heavy skin scent, but a skin scent none the less, as the projection is minimal. I like my scent to project enough where I can smell it on me, and this fall short.
How does it smell? it starts almost like David Yurman Limited Edition - a heavy leathery rose note. It softens down to a sweet chocolatey concoction, then it dries further to a sweet fruity patchouli that slightly resembles a very tame Black Orchard. A patchouli fan will be left wanting more as the patchouli is soft, very nice, very sophisticated and beautiful, but weak. Expertly blended, expensive smelling and overall very nice, just too tame for me. Also as a side note, this one tilts slightly feminine IMO. Not a good blind buy but an interesting one to check out.

miles178

very soft sillage and projection .... hardly detectable ....
i´ve tested it at shop and i was sooo amazed, now (and it happens many times) huge disappointment when it arrives and you realize that is nothing impressive and smells really poor and quite generic .... never again anything from this line (the other ones are funny, sour or generic as hell - real price should be around 35 euros for such a childish/teenage juices) very disappointed by van cleef and arpels company, never again!

GRAF

This is very nice scent but it could be a release from Boss or Lalique or Yohji with lower price. It smells nice but not expensive.

Patchouli is not the big boss here. Rose, iris, cacao and leather are also strong. I wouldn't recommend it for a hardcore patchouli lover. There's also a feeling at the background of mint (?) chewing gum. I think it's something reacting with iris..

Longevity is very nice about 7-8 hours. Sillage/projection are moderate.

elena_irimia2003

Beautiful and all my favourite ingredients (except menthol - but i deal with it) are here but is not so strong as it should be and has no sillage.

Ria Rahmawati

Finally yesterday I got this perfume and I’m falling in love ❤️❤️❤️.. smell is very nice, smoky fresh sexy elegant and expensive. This is signature perfume type, longevity is awesome

jeffwithfrags

Very disappointing, considering the notes seemed so delicious and so promising. Disappointment of the Year probably for me in fact!

The opening was quite medicinal, first few seconds after the initial spray. Slightly pungent even.

I got a very weak fleeting hint of citrus but what I mostly found was a dull, yet soft suede. Not the 'fresh, just cured' sort, it seemed almost as if spiked with damp soil.

This is actually an opening I get so frequently in Niches nowadays.

Terrible; I was expecting the most deliciously sweet, rounded deep cocoa and maybe some vanillic woods to come roaring out but all you have is this feeble excuse of a leather patchouli.

When you're paying these prices and upscaling, it has to be great from the very 1st spray, none of this 'wait for the amazing dry-down' nonsense, no matter how good it is.

Which is pretty funny to point out that this indeed does dry down to a very nice and rich vanilla and cocoa, but even then it could have been more special.

Sorry people.

My rating: 3/10

This one is truly a hidden gem.

Rose, fruits, patchouli and chocolate heavenly blend.

Extremely beautiful scent and lasts long time with very nice projection. People will notice it and stays all day on clothes.

If you love Tom Ford Noir De Noir, check this out.

mabelcruet

This is absolutely stunning, but only for about 20 minutes, then it vanishes. My skin simply eats this up-I'm so disappointed. It's very soft and restrained but opens with a slightly sweet citrus/bergamot note that very quickly becomes a soft rose, slightly powdery with hints of iris. I'm not a patchouli fan, but in this it is quiet and used in the background, and is really a secondary event. It's nowhere near the 'typical' in your face earthy patchouli, this is very well behaved patchouli that grounds the evanescent floral notes without overpowering them. There is definitely orris in there somewhere too. There is leather in the background: this is also restrained but after about 30 minutes, all that is left (on me) is the slightest hint of woody leather. I love the Van Cleef & Arpels Collection Extraordinaire-their Rose Velours remains my idea of rose heaven-they are substantial, meaningful fragrances and sheer quality. I really, really wanted this one to last longer on me-its not fair!

VerySensitiveNose

First impact with leather&synthetic patchouli is stunning which lasts for 2 hours, then I am amazed by the cacao&rose mixture in the middle notes for 2 hours more. Was so nice but... After all, all i have is the unbearable Sulphur (cat pee) smell, all thats left. If you want to give the sense of natural body smell to people around you, Its too much tang for base note. Cant be my signature.

Mooniq

A beautiful fragrance. On my skin it gets totally a mans scent. Great dark and a bit sweet Patchouli mixed with dark Rose and Woodsy notes. Its flirty and sexy. I love this scent - but I don't like it on my skin.

En underbar doft. På min hud blir den manlig. Underbar mörk och lite söt Patchouli mixad med mörk Ros och Tränoter. Den är flirtig och sexig. Jag älskar doften -men inte på mig själv. detta är en mans doft.

This is my favourite perfume. I just love the patchouli, and the rose, and everything about it. It's my most treasured beloved perfume!!!!!

kanak

Moonlight Patchouli is a very sensual Patchouli fragrance. It's my second fragrance from the VCnA Niche line after Ambre Imperial and so far 2 for 2. Very nice fragrances. This one starts with a slightly sweetish Patchouli note, the cacoa I am assuming but the Sweetness fades as the Patchouli remains to be joined by a fantastic floral heart. Dry, vibrant rose and a dewey sort of iris. I guess this is the " Moonlight" part. You could visualise walking to meet a lover for a moonlit tryst in a garden grotto with night blooming flowers softly scenting the air. The base is a mild fruity leather note but the fragrance is so weak at that point, it is barely discernable.

Projection on this fragrance is soft, it comes and goes, softly wafting in the air around you just when you think it's gone. Longevity is good, stays on my skin for about 6-7 hours. This is not a attention grabbing , statement frag. This is a slow burn frag ideal for close encounters of the romantic kind or Any occasion where someone, hopefully romantically inclined, is in close proximity to you. So dates and nights out for dinner are good fits. Another winner has gone into my night fragrance rotation. If you want a beautifully done Patchouli, a far cry from the usual Middle eastern Rose Patch blends, look no further. I just went ahead and ordered a Full bottle of this.

hamtoo

Based on the positive reviews I read right here, I bought a sample of this. I'm a Pathcouli fan and I had high expectations about the listed components. Maybe the decant was not good, but I've been tremendously disappointed by this fragrance. It has no proyection, and longevity is close to the skin. I sprayed it many times in different occasions, in cold and warm weahter. I have to plough my nose under my skin or fabrics to get something of this. Beside, so sorry that the sparse patchouly I can detect is muted by a sort of paper-aroma. The search for the holy grail in the Pathchouli earth will have to continue. For now, Farmacia SS. Annunziata Patchouli Indonesiano, from the third hour drydown on is the best

SweetSoul

My favourite perfume! The most gorgeous patchouli. Delicious. Everything is perfect, especially the name! I LOVE it!!!

Scharbau

I love this ! A leather, smokey og still fresh and nice at first, then it turn in to a sweet og so nice soft scent. Expensive - but worth it.

adrienn99

thios one is well blended and smooth... good for office i.e. nothing edgy or spectacular. longevity and sillage soft and weak in my book.

evacecilias

I'm hooked ! The name is perfect for the scent even though
it opens quite sharp and medicinal, the first seconds after initial spraying. It softens and then you sence the kakao for some minutes. The rose, iris and patch combo lingers on for hours to come and leather ,so soft so soft adds up the warmth and cuddly feel to the composition. The fruity part must be the sweet Honey note I get. This is soo lovely! Thanks VC&a !!!

rp6969

Now that I have a full bottle I can say that, though the projection is soft, It lasts for days on clothing. I think it is a lovely, elegant scent. A very sheer patchouli with a lovely rose/iris heart. The name does it full justice.

Parfumista2010

In short : an understated rose-patch combo that is very sublime and well-crafted. Quiet und softspoken, not loud, not trashy, not too gothic or "noir".
This could be a beginner´s patchouli, it will not draw too much attention but is beautiful in cooler weather.
I do not regret my purchase. As I own a number of ultra-strong and attention-seeking patch scents (one is Profvmvm Roma´s rendition) this is a very pleasant new take on the topic.
Quite long-lasting as well. Beautiful bottle. Halfway reasonably priced. If you are into patchouli this is at least worth a sniff.

rp6969

I tried this one a couple of weeks ago and I found it hauntingly beautiful. Definitely see a full bottle in my future. Lasted for a week on paper strip. Really lovely!

ilsagold

Tested it yesterday at 4:30 pm. One under my ear one on my inner arm.
First I get brighter fruity notes which was really nice. Then in 30 mins patchoulie added. So far it was very unisex. Once 2 hours passed rose made its introduction and whatta loud one. Suddenly it leaned towards feminine side. I asked my wife at that moment, lucikly she said mentholated patchouli is coming at her nose instead of feminine of rose. Another hour passed, this time suede and leather started to appear together with iris which again turn the fragrance unisex and we both enjoyed it from 3rd hour and onward.
It went like this two more hours and then cease at around 10 pm. I can't say much for projection but longevitiy is not less then five hours. I will definitely try again next month (October) with three spritz this time.

Pity that I couldn't detect cacao at any stage.

J Anderson

Oh yeah! Van Cleef Collection Extraordianaire is an absolute winner every time, I don't think there is one of them that I don't like and this could be the 4th that I LOVE!
