Scarlett Cole

Four-time RITA finalist, Scarlett Cole, is a contemporary romantic suspense / contemporary romance author (represented by Louise Fury at The Bent Agency) who calls both Toronto, Canada and Manchester, England home. A born city dweller, she periodically quashes the urge to live in the country by hiking up a mountain to remind herself that living away from people would terrify the pants off her.

She believes everybody deserves their love story to be told and loves her heroes on the rough and rugged side…and usually tall (because she married one of those 6ft 6” men you read about in romance!). She’s an A-type personality and Scorpio star sign, so good luck getting her to do anything she doesn’t want to.

When she isn’t writing, she’s happy to talk hot men and expensive shoes while drinking a cold gin and tonic. Don’t bring up olives. As far as Scarlett is concerned, they are the devil’s food. As long as you don’t bring up olives, she’s happy to hear from any time.

Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Trope: captive, revenge
Angst: 😱😱😱
Smexy: 🔥🔥🔥

"𝘐𝘵'𝘴 𝘩𝘶𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘬. 𝘉𝘶𝘵 𝘪𝘵'𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘢𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘧𝘶𝘭 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘷𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘣𝘦 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘴."

In a world of 1 - 5 star reads, this was TEN! Ten 👏🏼 fracking 👏🏼 stars👏🏼. Seriously not one thing I didn’t like about this book. The storyline and writing was phenomenal, super fast paced and heart pounding. The banter was everything! Cutting. Emotional. Sweet and witty. If you've read the previous book, you know King is spiraling. He's angry and lost and feeling betrayed, and fortunately, he's kidnapped the one person that can help him find his way back to center. Best buckle up though, cause it's a bumpy ride! Let me apologize up front for the long review, but had so many things to say about this one :)

"𝘐 𝘮𝘢𝘺 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘣𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘯 𝘰𝘧𝘧 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯 𝘐 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘸 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘙𝘢𝘦 𝘔𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘳. 𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘣𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘢 𝘸𝘰𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘹𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘦𝘦 𝘩𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘴𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶?"

King and Rae are both complex characters and I just loved them for each other so much. Both are loyal and will do anything for the ones they love. Both have darker sides, but underneath it all really just want to be loved and have someone put them first. I love opposite attracts stories and these two couldn’t be further apart (an MC prez and a psychologist, lol) while still having this underlying commonality. King couldn't have manifested a more perfect woman for him. Rae is a super strong and independent woman and that's what he both wants and needs to have in a partner. Her brain is her weapon and she is slaying left and right with her words 😱🙈, it added humor, but also spoke hard truths. They both had wonderful character growth was fantastic and it wasn’t overnight. They both worked at it and the gradual change was appreciated as a reader.

"𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘐 𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘱 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘥𝘰𝘰𝘳, 𝘐 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘢 𝘫𝘰𝘣 𝘵𝘰 𝘥𝘰. 𝘈 𝘳𝘰𝘭𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘱 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘰. 𝘈 𝘸𝘦𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘳𝘺. 𝘉𝘶𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶'𝘷𝘦 𝘨𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘮𝘦 𝘢 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵."

Other things that were different about this story and made it special to me:

1) I loved how she realized what she wanted and was the one to go after him, despite his mess up. It seems to be a thing to always have this massive grovel when heroes f up. I’m not saying that guys shouldn’t apologize, but I guess I’m just glad to see an alternate version where he just apologizes and it’s enough because he means it 🤷🏻‍♀️. When forgiveness can be freely given, instead of needing to be extracted, lol.

"𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘩 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨, 𝘜𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳."

2) I also loved how Rae wasn't perfect sexually. Her big brain means she's in her own head a lot and for many of us, it can cause some sexual dysfunction. I appreciated feeling seen here, lol. Probably an overshare 🤷🏻‍♀️, but still.

If you haven’t started this series, you’re totally missing out. Every single book has made my top of 2023 and this one, THIS was my favorite of all of them. Seriously, not one thing I didn’t like. I'm so glad Niro is next and that Vows We Keep excerpt was 🔥🔥🔥.

“It’s human to break. But it’s beautiful to survive and be proud of the scars.”

This book was so beautiful that I don't even know where to begin
But if I want to give one word to why this was perfect then it's

Rae

Usually, when FL are broken, especially in MC romances, they always want someone to help them and put the pieces back together
Which is OK and awesome

But Rae? Oh my God. The hurt she went through should have broken her spirit completely
But it didnt
She came so close to the edge but decided she is better than just rolling over

She put her life back together
She studied and made something of her life
She went into the field she knew would help her and others

And SHE FREAKING QUOTES SHAKESPEARE 😍 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩

not once was she afraid of King
She knew his endgame and beat him with his own rules making him fall head over heals for her

She is not perfect, far from it but she thrives in her imperfections

King, on the other hand, was so broken on the inside he didn't realize how much
He was the one who needed Rae to bring the pieces back💔❤

You have big shoulders, King. But you don’t have to carry all this alone. Choose to break these cycles of violence today, because they never end well. Be merciful and noble like your road name.”

This book proves that MC romances are not always cheesy and all about the smut
They can be deep and heartfelt
They can tackle an everyday issue and present it in a way that pleases everyone

They aren't ment to give you solutions but just to say
You are not alone

I identified with Rae so much
Her childhood
Her perseverance
Her education
Her passion
Her strength

Good job to the author👏👏🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹

The Bonds We Break, with it's sizzling cover, is the fourth book in the Iron Outlaws MC romance series by Scarlett Cole. In getting to know this band of brothers in the previous books, Uther 'King' Hills seemed to have one of the darker personalities of these anti-heros so far. After being suddenly thrown into his late father's role, he's been struggling to find his footing as a leader and the new club president. I know readers have been curious and very excited about digging into King's story.

The story picks up where it left off in The Lies We Tell, when the last straw in a series of BIG last straws sends an already volatile King spiraling downward. He was outraged with the betrayal that Saint laid at the Iron Outlaw's doorstep and wanted him hit hard, to show what happens to those who dare to break their trust. But some thought Saint was let off too easily, including him, so he decide to take something precious that Saint couldn't live without and use it against him. King found out quickly that he'd come up against a person who wasn't going to make this easy for him to do this.

Rae Miller was supposed to be the avenue for his revenge, but King wasn't expecting was to have his plan flipped on its head by this fiesty, intelligent and formidable woman. He demanded loyalty and respect and she gave him neither. King was intrigued by her in many ways and Rae was fascinated by him- their chemistry was off the charts from day one. Meanwhile, this story gets curiouser by the minute!

"....You’ve got no sense of self-preservation, duchess.”....“Perhaps not. But what I do have are boundaries, and you crossed them.”

I throughly enjoyed Saint's little sister, Rae. She sure had brass b@!!s, with a mind like a steel trap. She was more than ready to negotiate with the devil- cat and mouse was a game she was willing to play if it helped her brother. She and Saint had a rough childhood, absent of love and filled mental and physical abuse. They had each other and survived, but it left them both with scars, not all of them visible. King thought he would threaten her and not expect her to push back?? King was finding out that Rae was stronger than he thought and a force to be reckoned with.

“I like negotiating with you, Rae Miller.”

“Yeah, well, I kinda hate you.”

King didn't react they way I thought he would to some of the things Rae said and did. Had she been anyone else, I think he might have cut them off at the knees, but not her. Somehow, this demanding man was seeing Rae in a different light from any other woman. She was getting under his thick skin, with an attraction that never should have happened. Their banter and standoffs were something to witness and so was the ever changing mood in the clubhouse.

Wondering what happens at the end of King and Rae's unique story? You'll need to read it for yourself to know the answer to that! The Bonds We Break has twists, irony, suspense and some surprises you're not going to see coming. One big one includes who will be the next Iron Outlaw brother to be chasing down love in the next book. Wait until you see who that is and who else is involved in the story. Unexpected! This author is such an unrepentant tease, but she's wonderful and her books keep me guessing, so I think I'll just sit back and enjoy the process until The Vows We Keep hits my Kindle!

I was given an early copy of this book to read and review.

The Iron Outlaws MC series is one of the best dark and gritty MC romance series that I have ever read. #TRUST

None of the books in this series are standalone books. Let me say this louder for those in the back, NONE OF THE BOOKS IN THIS SERIES ARE STANDALONE BOOKS! Phew, I feel better getting that out of the way LOL

I’ve been singing Scarlett’s praises since she published her very first book and that song just keeps on going book after book. She tackled the world of mc romance and exploded it on its axis. I’ve read a whole bunch of books in this genre and there are very few authors I can say that have blown it out of the park with every book, except for Scarlett. EVERY.SINGLE.BOOK.

The Bonds We Break is King (finally lol) and Rae’s journey and it was heart-stopping, captivating, thrilling, engrossing to the point that I thought I might burst from the sheer anxiety of it all. Scarlett never writes easy characters with easy paths, but she always makes sure their path, even when rocky, is bursting with energy. That’s how I felt when I was reading this story. I was full of pent-up energy to the point I thought I would burst if I didn’t get to the next page. At the same time, I honestly could have read about King and Rae forever and ever. They are uniquely fit for each other, and they made my heart soar!

I’ve been ensnared by Scarlett Cole’s words for what seems like decades and I am looking forward to a whole lot more decades to come!

***5 ‘Accelerator’ Stars***

I absolutely devoured this baby…well, at first I was impatient to get the good stuff, not that the beginning of the book wasn’t good, it was, but once King and Rae collided it was all kinds of goodness and while I knew that the book/story wasn’t going anywhere, I just didn’t have the strength to stop reading until the very end.

Rae and King were kind of everything…well, Rae was everything from the start and King worked around to it, but in the end he was golden. But Rae was a force of nature. I honestly adored her and how she handled everything thrown at her. King…I wanted to Gibbs smack and hug all at the same time. Their journey to their HEA was definitely unconventional in basically every way, but I loved how they got under each other's skins and found a connection that neither of them thought they’d ever find.

I know that this is a short and vague review, but you really should go into this book somewhat blind to get the full experience. As for the supporting cast of characters, I loved hanging out and catching up with the coupled up MC’s members and the ones that aren’t…yet. From the start, I’ve had a thing for (had to delete this part due to the author recently requesting in her FB group who the next book is about) but Halo totally did it for me in this book soooo…here’s hoping we get more of him!

this book made me hate king so bad, you have no idea. i almost dnfed like 5 times i believe. finished it just for rae — i felt like if i dnfed i would have left my friend alone with a guy that was beneath her in every sense. and king was. IS. beneath rae in every sense. the last 15% (maybe) was tolerable, but MAN what did i have to go through to get it done.

„There’s pain in his voice. A pain I don’t like hearing in any of my men. Makes me feel like I’m doing a shit job of taking care of them.”

YOU don’t fucking SAY 😀

„And I can’t imagine anything angering King more than me growing, regardless of where he plants me.”

woman. i’m beginning you. stand up.

„That’s not the brotherhood I signed up for. It’s not the brotherhood your grandfather and father built. If you’re going to bring him back to punish the shit out of him, you shouldn’t take the money and let him believe there’s a path back.”
As if I don’t already know I’m lacking compared to Dad.

what do i even say about this.

„You want me to talk to him when I get back?” Ryker asks.
I huff a short laugh. „No. This isn’t high school. And King is a grown-ass man who makes his own decisions. I think I need some time to process it. To decide what I want.”

isn’t it? high school though? cause he’s definitely been acting like a child.

„That was before. […]” Niro looks out over the gravel drive alongside the house. „Before I knew you were going to become important to Prez.”
I raise an eyebrow in his direction. „You do realize that how you treat a woman shouldn’t be dependent on her relationship with a man?”
He rubs his hand over his jaw as if considering what I said. „Might have to agree to disagree on that one.”
„What is it about judging a woman on her own merits that scared you so much you need an arbitrary male opinion to set the tone for your own response?”

rae was great. she was.

DNF at 21%. I see a lot of 4 and 5 star reviews, and given the fact that I loved the previous 3 books I don't doubt that those are honest reviews. My issue is strictly with King. Can Not Stand Him. Didn't like him at all in book 1, and my dislike grew so much with books 2 and 3 that I can't get past my dislike to even give him a shot in this one. Especially when the book starts out with him being such a d!ckw@d. Just couldn't do it.

ugh! I couldn’t finish it

I really struggle with this one.. I got to 61% of the book but I couldn’t stomach one more second…. I like stories about broken heroes but king was just an weak and whiny…. I also didn’t feel an organic connection development between Rae and king…. I really enjoy the previous books but this one left me utterly disappointed.

4.5 stars!

This is the fourth book in the Iron Outlaws MC series, and I have been desperate to get my hands on it! After the glimpse of the storyline in the last book, I couldn’t wait to see how Cole was going to redeem the troubled club President, King, and turn a kidnapping into a believable love story. But she did it! Delivering a beautifully heartfelt redemption story, with strong themes of brotherhood and family, and a sexy, intense and emotional romance that stole my heart!

The events of this book are a direct follow-on from the last book of the series, so make sure you read these books in order, and beware spoilers below.

King is new to the President role, which he was elected into after the death of his father. He’s still adjusting to the role, but a series of devastating betrayals have left him angry and hurt, and he has lost his way. The betrayal by one of his most trusted members and friend has sent him spiralling, and in order to keep the man loyal, King concocts a plan to kidnap his beloved sister, Rae, as collateral.

It should be a terrifying situation, but Rae is not your ordinary woman. Strong, brave and confident, she has absolute love and trust for brother, and is supportive of his life in the MC. She’s also a psychologist who has a unique set of skills that equip her to deal with King, so she goes with him willingly, challenging him and snarking back at him at every opportunity.

“I may have bitten off more than I can chew with Rae Miller. You ever been with a woman approximately three hundred times smarter than you?”

The bickering is sharp and witty, and more often than not it is Rae poking at a bewildered King, trying to get to the centre of his anger, and understand him and why he’s starting to lose his control. It’s funny yet hits hard, and adds a weird dynamic to the kidnapping. And about that… yes, it’s a kidnapping, and though King is a complete badass, there’s never any fear that he’s going to hurt Rae (physically, at least). And while Rae is technically forced to be there, under the guise of keeping her brother safe, there’s something about her fierce captor that captivates her and she’s somehow exactly where she needs to be.

“She’s exactly where I want her. And yet…”
Halo grins. “And yet, what?”
I slug some more of my coffee. “It strikes me that she’s there because she’s decided she wants to be, not because I forced her.”

And so we come to the chemistry. Because holy hot damn, there is SO much chemistry between these two. Their attraction is clear from the first moment; King makes plans to get Rae into his bed, and Rae is already right on board. Sex is a big part of this story. Of course, it’s hot and steamy, and so freaking intense, but it’s complicated by a number of factors which become such an important part of what brings these two together. As they grow closer, feelings develop, and though they are complete opposites and come from completely different worlds, they come together beautifully, forming a true partnership which surprises them both with its depth and intensity.

I lift up a little so I can look at her, so I can memorize the moment I realized I was hers in a way I’ve never been anyone else’s.
The woman who wanted absolutely nothing from me now has every single thing I can give.

These are two complex characters in a uniquely complex situation. There’s a genuine connection between them from the very beginning, and watching that develop as they bicker back and forth, challenging and comforting each other and helping each other work through issues (all while they explore their mad passion for each other) is just gorgeous. They are smart and strong, but deep down they want to be loved for who they are, and they allow themselves to be vulnerable with each other, and turn out to be exactly what each other needs. Rae is a kickass heroine who refuses to be pushed around and who holds nothing back in fighting for her man, and King has a wonderful redemption arc, with Rae right there by his side, guiding, supporting, and pushing him to be better. And as his softer side emerges, I just melted.

His chest is warm against my back as he pulls me tight against him. “You’re safe, Rae,” he says, close to my ear.
“Don’t be kind to me,” I say as the tears threaten again.
“Perhaps it’s about time someone was.”
His words soothe me. “You’re secretly a good man, aren’t you?”
Lips brush the side of my neck, the trail of them makes me shiver. “Maybe only for you.”

The love story is gorgeous, starting in chaos and developing into something so special, and I loved watching King turn into the swooniest of heroes... but still with his badass biker edge.

“I’d die for you, Rae. Loving you is the easiest thing I’ve ever done.”

“I promise to keep you safe, hold your heart gently, and fuck you hard when you need it. You’re my life.”

On a side note for those who may be concerned about dubious consent – this issue is address head-on in the book. The author has clearly put a lot of thought into the topic and how she was going to handle this storyline. Rae explains it better than I ever could, so if you’re worried about the consent issues, read this --

This is such a fantastic read. It’s deep and meaningful, with moments of fun and lightness, and there is drama and action, as you would expect from the MC world. I loved seeing so much of the brothers, and the couples from previous books, but King and Rae shine as they carve their own path and find their way forward together.

4.5 stars!

Content Warnings

As with any motorcycle club (MC) romance, the typical themes apply: language, violence, use of misogynistic language.

But within this book, there are some specific themes that may not be for all:
Dubious consent: King does not rape Rae. Some of you are nervous, I know. My copy editor was too, but King and Rae’s story ended up being her favourite in the series. Let me put your mind at ease. Both characters’ thoughts and Rae’s words make it clear that while externally the consent is dubious, it is not unwanted.
Assault (not sexual)
Kidnapping
Triggers relating to the preparation of food (not eating disorder related)

Without a doubt, this is the best in the series.

I went into this book HATING King!!! And honestly for the first 60% of this book I still hated him. But I will very begrudgingly admit that he won me over.

I loved this book so hard. Even when I still hated him, I knew this was the best in the series. King and Rae’s story was brilliant and I absolutely love Rae!! She’s my fave character out of the whole series. I loved that she sassed him the whole way and completely held her own with him, she’s exactly what King and the club needed.

Niro is up next… another Iron Outlaw who I don’t like… 🤣 Scarlett Cole thinks she can redeem him, let’s see if she can…

Holy Shit! This story is incredible! Honestly, I don't know how Scarlett does it. But each book has just got better and better and this one even though it broke me...

It was pure redemption arc perfection!

As Uther 'King' Hills betrayed president of the Iron Outlaws MC is out for revenge. Not just against Saint but his brothers those Iron Outlaws who voted to save Saint rather than kill him.

And so King with the help of Niro and Bates Kidnaps Saint's sister Rae in an attempt to get the ultimate pay back.

Only the kidnapping doesn't quite go to plan. As Rae is unlike any woman King has met before and she's not afraid to go toe to toe with him.

After all Rae suffered at the hands of her father and will do anything to keep Saint alive, and I mean ANYTHING.

Which has King thrown and beginning to act more recklessly than ever before.

And when King's sick plan is revealed the club becomes even more fractured and once close friends are concerned. Especially as the outlaws enemies are circling.

And with real characters, real-life situations and issues including those around consent. This was an unputdownable read.

That had me sobbing one minute and fanning myself the next. And I want to be Rae Miller when I grow up. As that woman is, kick ass.

And once again Scarlett knocks it out of the park especially with the second epilogue. Which OMG had me screaming with excitement!! And I just wanna read The Vows We Keep like right now!

I would thoroughly recommend The Bonds We Break to all.

My thanks to Wildfire Marketing Solutions and Scarlett Cole for the opportunity to read an early copy of The Bonds We Break. 😊

It seems like forever that I’ve been waiting for this book but it’s not it’s just a couple of months, but after the teaser about The Bonds We Break in the previous book in the series i was literally counting down the days until I could read this.

I’m so thankfully that I got accepted to read and review this ARC, the other 3 books in this series are 3 of my favourite ever books in this genre so I was couldn’t wait to dive in!

This is King & Rae’s story.

King is losing his grip on his club and on reality and his only thought is to punish Saint even further by taking his sister Rae.

Holy Hell! Rae is by far my favourite leading lady out of the series so far, she’s smart, educated and got one hell of a mouth and she doesn’t take any crap from King, she knows exactly what’s behind the tough guy exterior the moment she lies eyes on him.

I loved the push and pull these two had and the eventual mutual attraction that I absolutely devoured and the sex scenes, my god they’re on another level trust me.

As always I loved the MC side too and getting to know how all the rest of the club is doing but what I didn’t expect was the high drama and even more shocks and twists that I really didn’t see coming.

Once again Scarlet has absolutely nailed it!

Fan-Freaking-Tastic

If you have been following the Iron Outlaws MC series you know that the Prez of the club’s friend was an undercover ATF agent. Even though Ryker swore himself to the club King’s sense of betrayal was more than he could handle. King is losing it and he thinks to take Ryker’s sister, Rae, as a way to get what he wants with Ryker. The thing is King had no idea what he was getting himself into by kidnapping Rae.

I love Rae’s strong personality but her past has definitely left marks on her soul. King is a dark person, especially now, but it’s the interaction between these two that made this a five-star read. Even though Rae was the one who was kidnapped I’m not sure who really had the upper hand.

There was plenty of MC action with their enemies still coming at the club, the steam was off the charts, and I loved the healing process for various people in this book. It was a club divided and believe it or not it was Rae who was a part of putting it back together.

I recommend not only the book but the rest of the Iron Outlaws MC series and I can’t wait for the next book to come out.

In order to save her brother, Rae agrees to be King’s captive and to do… whatever he wants, whenever he wants.

I don’t remember reading an MC romance with such complex characters. Rae is strong, smart, witty but still carries remnants of an abusive childhood that hampers her everyday life. While King is a sensitive person (yup he is) trapped in an alpha male/violent lifestyle. He wants to rule with an iron fist and live up to his father’s legacy but behind this façade rests a man fighting contradictory emotions and a leader desperately seeking the respect of his men.

This book was very inspirational. I loved how both characters challenged and helped each other tackle their obstacles and fears as they both evolved into un upgraded version of themselves. As the story goes, we realize that Rae needs King just as much as King needs Rae.

The only downside for me was the lack of MC action. The club is being targeted but I fond these parts were just sprinkled here and there within the story. But hey, tiny little detail.

PS: (with “possible spoiler” alert)

There is something incredibly sexy about a man who humbles himself and honestly apologizes to his peers. Ugh, the way King laid his heart on the table, not only to Rae, but to his club members was the most beautiful thing.

Also, although the spice level wasn’t to the roof, I liked how it stayed realistic. I loved how Rae’s issues in bed were not miraculously cured by the end of the novel.

Thank you, Scarlett, for such a beautifully written SMART love story. I personally have a lot in common with Rae, which might be why I loved it so much, but wow! It was brilliant. I can’t wait for book 5 and ****’s story. Ha!

YES YES YES!!! And she does it again!
Just when you think Scarlett Cole cant give you any better than she already has , she pulls this out the bag and has you hooked into such a fantastic read you wont want to put it down!!
This is the first book in a while that ive been unable to stop reading.. sleep what is sleep?? I should know better than to start reading a Scarlett Cole book later at night lol
This time we get the story of Club Prez King and what a story it is!
Riding on a flow of crazy emotions after the vote for Saint didnt quite go the way he planned, King starts a plan that he wants to ruin Saint but have some fun for himself at the same time, but will that plan work or backfire?
Absolutely love Rae and how strong she is even with her own issues in the background.
These guys are beyond perfect for each other, they mend the broken pieces of each other without even trying!
Seeing them do this piece by piece and not even realise it was just beautiful!

“it might have started out that you were my captive, but now i’m yours.”

who knew kidnapping worked not only in mafia romance but in a mc setting too? what a mindfuck of a book, pun intended. the way psychology played into the story, both in the female lead's inner monologue and how she approached the relationship with her kidnapper, was nothing short of genius. this fed my criminology inclined academic brain, stimulating me both physically and mentally. i wanted to hate the mmc so bad, and i did, but i also could relate to him. everything is foreshadowing when you have trust issues, which is how i guessed the plot twist in the previous book. but as intrinsically different these two were, where it matter they complemented the other. neither was broken or in need of saving, but they added together in a perfect union. king truly became his namesake when he embraced his queen.

Loving these books where these badass biker hotties falling so hard for their women. King was no exception. Despite wanting his vengeance on Saint he just couldn't resist Rae.

I love when we get the sweet moments in these books. Just to see him so soft with Rae when he wanted to punish her for what her brother did, what he felt was the ultimate betrayal. The way he called her "Duchess".

Loved that Rae was no wilting flower. She had her kinks and her hang ups but King was the guy who could make her feel things she hadn't before.

The sex was spicy and my goodness he loved to eat out Rae.

He did some sweet things for her which always makes me swoon. It's a good book with a little bit of angst and heartache and sweet moments too.

Gosh I’ve been waiting for this on pins and needles. Because my mind was going wild with how this may play out. And the way this played out was not one of the ways I thought it would, a complete surprise. Rae and King are both complex people on their own but together it gets very complex’s for them and the people around them. Their dark sides feed of each other in a good way. When King kidnaps Rae he believes he doing the right thing for him and the club; but he learns things don’t always seem like how they should. Rae knows that her being taking by King is dangerous but she knows she’s safe but her brother life is on the line and is willing to do anything to keep him safe the same way he has always kept her safe. This is on hell of ride. The can’t wait for the next one.

I'm reading this series out of order it's kind of my thing😂😅

Anyways onto the book, I'm sorry, but I couldn't stand King like at all. I hated him. Maybe if I read the previous books first, I would feel different, but I didn't, so here I am.

I liked Rae but also wondered how she could fall for someone who did all the shit that King did to her brother and was still trying to do. I really liked Clutch in this book and loved how he called King out.

The writing was really good, and I'm probably gonna skip around and read some of the other books in the series. I'm also hoping that we get more back story on Arthur and Vivien. Obviously, it's not a happy story, but I want more details on how everything went down.

2, even though King is a dick, I'm gonna continue this series stars

This started off with a huge surprise. Think forbidden and taboo-ish. If you read book 3, you know what I'm talking about and where this starts. I don't want to say too much and give anything away. I will say that there were times I laughed reading this. For all that was going on, Rae didn't take King's crap. I loved that King felt so much for Rae and was willing to do anything to protect her. I'll reread this one!

Such a good plot, I really liked Rae’s character a lot. She never once cowered when facing King and she was made to be with him. Rae challenges Kings personality and makes him question his decisions and whether they were right or not. King definitely has character development thanks to Rae, she makes him a better version of himself. I was invested throughout the book. It’s got tension, angst and some sad moments that made it such a great read.

The Bonds We Break is a great euphemism for how sometimes you need to breaks the bonds of your past in order to create newer and stronger ones to obtain a better future. That is exactly what King and Rae do for each other. While their relationship doesn’t start out in any traditional sense, they eventually help each other break free of past traumas that had defined them and learn how to move forward.

I have a new favorite couple and book in this thrilling, smart and sexy MC series!
The banter is next level between, King and his k*dn*pee, Rae. The psychological games and the dry wit of both characters is fantastically entertaining.
King is the young President of the MC, he has a lot to live up to and a lot on his shoulders. He kidn*ps the sister of a former member he considers a traitor as payback.
Rae is not the kind of woman King is used to dealing with. She’s very intelligent, she’s a psychologist who can quickly get him tripped up over his own words, she shows no fear or intention of backing down.
The dynamic between the two is pure scorching fire! There’s never a dull moment between them. They are such interesting characters and together they’re magic.
The chemistry is unique, Rae has some k!nks she’s not felt comfortable fully exploring and she has some sexual insecurities. The way that plays out with the extremely alpha, King who’s demanding, controlling and rough is genius and so satisfying. It’s such a clever part of their story and I absolutely love it and them together.
There’s a lot of intelligent things going on in this story, (including the characters themselves) it elevates a motorcycle, kidn*pper romance to something much deeper, emotional, interesting and satisfying.
Did I mention the quoting of Shakespeare and other old classics? It was such an amusing addition to the conversations and it provided some clever and utterly swoon worthy scenes.
The plot took a few turns I didn’t see coming which is always a treat for me. I loved the twists.
The writing is impeccable, the characters are multidimensional and so very wonderful.
As the story progresses I was in love with these two characters who on paper should not work together, yet I believed they did. I was rooting for their happily ever after. Both are damaged and have things that haunt them, I felt they deserved each other and would be the strength the other needed.
They have to deal with the MC and Rae’s brother, Saint. I loved the secondary characters from the previous books. I do recommend reading this series in order. It adds to the characters depth and they are all 5 STAR reads for me.
I highly recommend this book and series. Check CW’s, this book has “consensual dubc0n”. It’s not done in a way I’ve ever read, it’s really unique and not traditional of the trope. It’s hard to explain, I didn’t find it disturbing at all. I do read traditional dubc0n, but I can still see the vast difference with this particular book.
I’m so excited for the next book, I’m so intrigued by the character and the brief peek I got at the beginning of the story….It’s shocking and very intriguing!

This book, while not my favorite of the series, had a pretty great story. There were a lot of layers to this story. If you take the story at face value, then it seems to be a story about a man who coerces the woman he abducts into a relationship with him by threatening her brother's life. Once you dig a bit deeper beneath the surface, you discover that this story is actually about two people who are each broken in some way, each helping to mend the pieces of the other.

King's was a very tempermental character. One minute he liked her, the next he was being a jerk. His idea for Rae was not something I find at all appealing, irl or in fantasy. I had a really hard time getting past his ultimate plan for her, and his terrible reasons for doing it in the first place. At times, he seemed like a boy in a man's body pretending to be a leader. He wasn't trustworthy at all. He went back on his word multiple times. He got angry that not all members sided with him and acted out by trying to make an innocent woman suffer. He broke one of the club's cardinal rules; don't mess with family. He didn't consider how his action would widen the divide in his already fractured club, he only thought about how it would make him feel vidicated. He does manage to pull his head out of his behind about 55 - 60 percent of the way through the book, but he didn't make it all the way back to the top of my favorite IO character list.

Rae was very interesting. At times, she was a bada55 who had no problem putting others in their place. Other times, she was a shy, uncertain person afraid of so much it didn't seem like she was really living, she was just going through the motions. King brought something out in her that was great sometimes and not so great at other times. Rae said it best when she said that their relationship, in the beginning, was very toxic. She would become excited whenever he would treat her poorly. It wasn't a healthy relationship in any way, at least not until later. Rae had a lot of demons, and I think that's why she and King clicked so well. They both had demons and darkness inside them that were haunting them. They were able to relate to one another, to understand what the other was going through, and to provide one another some comfort and a solid foundation to hold the other upright.

The ending was the best part. I really enjoyed it. Niro's story is next. He, like King, fell a few rungs due to his initial treatment of Rae, but I'm hoping he will be able to redeem himself in the next book.

Thoughts while reading:

Ok, first thought; the ending of the previous books and the beginning of this one don't exactly line up. At the endof the previous book, Niro and Bates shared a knowing smirk in the kitchen of Spark's house while King talked to Saint about what he would be willing to give to become a full member. However, in this book, Niro and Bates don't find out about Rae until after Saint already left for Mexico with Briar. It seems like the timelines are a bit muddled.

Classic quote, "How ironic I have to help execute my own kidnapping because of male ineptitude." I love it.

I think some members of the club, and their women, are going to have some serious problems with what King is doing. I can't wait to see how Gwen confronts him with her shame and disappointment at his actions. I hope she does anyway. Just like I hope Spark and Clutch and the other good members of the club will.

I love how Rae made him have to shake his head, metaphorically speaking, due to her reacting in a manor completely unexpected. She's smart, sassy, and completely in control. King may thing he's in control, but it's clear from their brief interactions so far that he's not.

Her acting as if she is choosing to participate in her situation, at least in her head, is almost comical, and not a good way. She's acting like she has a choice, like she wasn't just kidnapped by outlaw bikers who threatened to off her brother and Briar if she didn't come with them. She's only doing all of this because she's trying to save her brother, to survive until she's rescued by him. No sane, mentally healthy woman is going to be sexually attracted to her captor, in less than 24 hours. I don't care if she is into BDSM or dubious consent. I could understand if she had been with him for weeks, then it could be constured as Stockholm Syndrome, but this is just ridiculous. A sane woman would only agree if it was under threat of death, and even then it's a 50/50 chance she would still fight. Rae may call it dubious consent, but King is under the impression that she's doing it against her will, so it's SA not matter how you look at it.

King is coming across as a sore loser, a toddler crying because he didn't get to play with his toy the way he wanted. Well, boo-freaking-hoo. Move on cry baby!

King was my favorite character, but now he's loosing steam in my opinion. Rae is a very good character, genuinely strong and intelligent character.

I can't get with the fact that Rae seems to want King to treat her like crap. He gets angry about something about her brother and he takes that anger out on her, and she seems to want it. Seems like she has some unresolved issues from her childhood that she needs to work on because that is not healthy. I understadn DubCon, but this isn't that, this is her getting off on abuse. It's extremely unhealthy.

Uther feels shame for what he's done ot the club, but he'll continue to screw it up with his scheme involving Rae because an imatrue toddler who angry he didn't get his way. He needs to grow the F up and realize what's really at stack if he keeps going down that road.

There are some story inconsistencies throughout the book. For instance, when Rae wakes up in the cottage after the celebration at the club house, she says it's 9am, the goes outside to speak into the camera. When she goes back inside, she sits in a chair talking about how she loves watching the sun rise. At 9am, the sun would have already been up.

Talk about emotional whilash. He's a jackass, then he's sweet and connects ith her, then he's back to being a jackass. It's one step forward and two steps back with this man.

I wish we coulld have read of the conversation between King and Clutch after he revealed that he had Rae to the club and Saint. I'm looking forward to seeing how the women in the club react once they hear what he's doing to Rae.

Ok, the one-on-one talk between Clutch and King, Uther and Landon, was great. I love that King is finally turning to Clutch, the man who has always stood by him, for advice about this situation with Rae. I hope he really takes it all in and is able to bring the club back together. The divide is going to be their end if he can't.

I think Duchess will remain my favorite, but I like Sunbeam.

I haven't seen it yet but, with them going out with the other couples, the guys must not have told the ladies the truth of why Rae is with King. I'm a bit disappointed, but I hope I still get to see Gwen put him in his place for kidnapping Rae.

Ok, King's big gesture was phenomenal, heartbreaking and swoo-worthy all in one. He's redeemed himself in the sense that I don't dislike him anymore, but it may take a bit more before he can make it back to being my favorite.

The frying pan incident was definitely another check mark in his favor.

I wonder if Niro and Bates will be able to redeem themselves, especially Niro after eveything he said and did.

Rae is a badass chick with quick witt, strong intellect, strength of will, and seemingly sufficient skills with guns.

OMG - Scarlett Cole has outdone herself with this one. The Bonds We Break is book four in the excellent Iron Outlaws MC series by S. Cole. Finally we get Uther King Hills, the president and what a story it is. An enemies to lovers and opposites attract tale about two very complex characters. The betrayal by Saint affected King deeply because he regarded him as a friend so he is determined to get revenge by kidnapping Saint’s sister Rae Miller. She is his insurance policy against Saint and must comply or her brother dies. How far will King go to make Saint pay and how far will Rae go to save her brother? This really is a ride or die situation.

To King traitors must die so he never expected them to vote against him. Saint took the punishment for his betrayal so he could return to the MC but King can’t forgive and forget so came up with his kidnapping plan. He feels let down by his friends and now has a club divided all due to Saint. Is King heading for salvation or tragedy?

Rae is great, one of the best and strongest female protagonists in a long time. She is sharp witted and has forthright opinions. A psychologist and a therapist who has dedicated her life to helping others due to her experiences. She uses her intelligence to her advantage and I loved her Shakespearean quotes. She doesn’t stand for any nonsense, stands up to King and never once shows any fear. She questions him at ever turn and it’s so funny how she negotiates deals with him. She’s always so unruffled and has an answer for everything. Rae knows her brother protected her as they grew up, sacrificing himself for her. She never wants him in that position again so it's her turn to step up and protect him.

King’s never met anyone like her before and gets cross she tries to get inside his head and catches him off guard so often. Hurting her will have more affect on Saint as he so protective of her but can he break Rae when she’s so clever. He sees her as a challenge especially when he learns what she endured growing up and how much it affects her still. Could they help each other? What happens when his revenge doesn’t seem so sweet anymore.

The character growth is beautifully written and superbly develops. I was cross at King at first and shocked at how cruel he was, however, just like Rae I realised he was a broken man, haunted by the ghosts of his past. All the recent events in his life have really changed him and he is trying to be a good president but doubts his decisions. I loved how he very occasionally showed her the man he really was. He knows she doesn't belong with a man like him but he is starting to find it hard to let her go even if she only with him as part of the deal to keep her brother alive.

“You’re secretly a good man, aren’t you.”

There are some steamy scenes between them as their chemistry ignites and some scenes straight from the heart when they finally confess their feelings.Rae ends up having to make some big decisions and I was so pleased she found the man beneath the patch. Could she be the one not to let him down and find a real connection with him. Has he unexpectedly found someone who would not only stand next to him but would stand up for him? It was great seeing Rae take matters into her own hands and chase down what she wants - girl power at its best !!

While most of the book is about the couple there is the continuing drama with the Righteous Brotherhood, as well as the consequences of Saints betrayal for some of the MC members. It was lovely seeing how Iris and Briar have become good friends and learning a bit more about Halo. My heart went out to Clutch and Spark trying to cope with everything going on. Will this couple grab life by the handlebars or as Rae might say “ The course of true love never did run smooth.” This series just gets better and better and I cant wait for the next one - The Vows We Keep, especially as it will be about the member I least expected.

ARC reçu en échange d’un avis honnête

TW: abus, kidnapping, meurtres, violence, gang

A voir…

It's another exhilarating and emotionally intense tale set in the MC world with S. Cole guiding readers down the highway of life. From the very first page events show themselves to be raw and gritty as punishment is doled out for a man thought to be a traitor. The fallout from that belief is huge though when the lives of the club president and the perceived traitor's sister are changed dramatically as anger, revenge, and past pain all meet in a connection between two apparent opposites that becomes unforgettable. Action in and out of the bedroom, secrets and lies...it all adds up to a story that will keep readers on the edge of their seats and rooting for this larger than life pair to find some sort of HEA.

At the start of this story Club President King is clearly reeling from his brother's decision to save the perceived traitor. Already feeling unworthy of the title of president it's an extra blow to his ego for his brother's to go against him which leads to a life-altering decision of holding Rae Miller as collateral to keep her brother in line. Theirs is a combustible connection from the very start as she's one to rely on her brains while he relies on his brawn in a dark, yet sensual battle of wills that ultimately becomes something more. Both have been hurt by their pasts, both have experienced pain that has led to big walls enclosing their hearts. These are not warm and fuzzy folks, but they are people who devote themselves wholeheartedly to what they believe in. As a psychologist, Rae works on people's minds and emotions and it becomes an all-out war with King early on as she flexes her mental strength. I loved her tough exterior, her ability to wield words like a weapon, and she's a heroine I found easy to relate to. King's more accustomed to demanding and giving subtle threats though which surrounded him with an air of danger. He exuded strength but it was his vulnerabilities that really drew me to him as the weight of the presidency is becoming an anchor full of contradictions. Seeing them was like watching a powder keg getting ready to explode and I found myself frantically turning the pages to see where things would go for them next. Over time though their emotional walls came down and a formidable pairing was created. We (and they) discovered their true selves in a hard-fought journey that displayed a perfectly imperfect couple whose rocky journey captivated me. Seeing them together pulled at my heartstrings, brought out a tear or two, along with numerous blushes courtesy of King's oh so delightful talent for dirty talking.

The Iron Outlaws series continues to set fire to my bookshelves with storylines that don't pull any punches. These MC romances are dark and gritty, pushing boundaries while setting itself apart from the rest of the genre. The next installment looks to be equally unforgettable with a male lead with anger issues of his own and an epilogue that has left me thoroughly tantalized to see what happens with Niro next.
