Waking up in Vegas was never meant to be like this.

Evelyn Thomas’s plans for celebrating her twenty-first birthday in Las Vegas were big. Huge. But she sure as hell never meant to wake up on the bathroom floor with a hangover to rival the black plague, a very attractive half-naked tattooed man, and a diamond on her finger large enough to scare King Kong. Now if she could just remember how it all happened.

One thing is for certain, being married to rock and roll’s favorite son is sure to be a wild ride.

Things I’ve learnt from new-adult Bad Boys (BB)

1. A BB never wears underwear under sexy jeans.

2. Only medium to zero confidence can attract a BB.

3. If you are a virgin, or almost, your chances to catch the eye of a BB, triple.

4. After some ruff patches, the BB is no longer a BB, but a SLP (sweet little poodle).

5. You will definitely hit it off with the best friend, who is a BB too, but will also become a SLP, probably in the next book.

6. The BB's bitchy-(but-sexier-than-you)-ex-girlfriend will definitely give you trouble.

7. If he is a musician, the BB will write you a song. If he is not, he will find some other way to very publicly announce his affection.

8. The BB will definitely mess up. But... just this one time. Afterwards he will definitely beg.

9. Casual relationships are not the BB’s style. Only marriage can suffice.

10. He will under no circumstances let you wear this little cute black dress. He will demand something from your grandma’s closet or more preferably, the BB will BUY you something in the lines of maternity clothes.

11. The BB has to punch every male that breaths in your direction.

And more importantly.. he is not really a BB.. he just didn’t find the right girl..till now, of course..

"So congratulations. You're married to a rock star."

I'd been wishing for a new rock star book and this one hit the spot and rocked my world!!

Lick is an addictive blend of heart-warming passion and light-hearted fun. It's a story you can lose yourself in. The perfect rock star romance! 5 stars!

This book had one of the all-time best beginnings ever. I challenge anyone to try and stop reading after the first page!

Evelyn wakes up one morning with a killer hangover and painfully fuzzy memories, in bed with a gorgeous, heavily inked man she doesn't remember with his name tattooed on her body and a giant sparkling diamond on her finger. Needless to say, this happened in Vegas ;)

From the very beginning, my heart was already breaking a little for this guy though because he clearly remembered what had happened despite her mindblank.
"Let me get this straight, you don't remember anything?"

"No," I said, swallowing hard. "What did we do last night?"

"We got fucking married." he growled.

After getting over the shock she's faced with the question... to divorce or not to divorce??

Plan A involved just trying to put everything behind her but she got about as far as the plane before she was hounded by hordes of paparazzi. Turns out that her mystery husband was not only in a band but in a world-famous-fall-on-your-knees-and-worship-them kind of band and by this point literally everyone on the planet (except her still) knew a version of what happened that night.

So Plan B came into effect and off she headed back to his place to try and settle things that way...
Me: Private jet was amazing. Though his fans are crazy…
Lauren: Whatever happens, do not break up the band!!!
Me: Got it.
Lauren: But break his heart. He wrote San Pedro after what's-her-face cheated on him. That album was BRILLIANT!
Me: Promise to leave him a broken quivering mess.
Lauren: That's the spirit.
Me: xx.

But she'd stepped into a crazy rock star world. No one was pleased at her new role in it, she just wanted out, and she couldn't read David but he sure as hell just seemed plain unhappy. But I loved that Ev took it all in stride. Sure, it was overwhelming at times but she was such a strong character and didn't let anything bring her down.

There was, however, something undeniable between them. A spark... something 'more'. So they took the weekend to give them a second chance to explore that feeling between them that just felt so 'right'.
"I… actually, I'd like to be alone for a minute."

He made a growly noise and suddenly his arms wrapped around me, pulling me in against him. He caught me off guard and I stumbled, my nose bumping into his chest. It hurt. Bur he smelled good. Clean, male, and good. Familiar. Some part of me remembered being this close to him and it was comforting. Something in my mind said 'safe'. But I couldn't remember how or why.

I totally fell for David. Everything about him just made my heart melt. He was just so sweet and tender. Definite swoon material but at the same time, my heart broke for him...
"It's not fair that I remember and you don't, Evelyn."

Ev was a refreshingly down-to-earth, non-ditzy, understanding heroine. I honestly did not feel frustrated with her even once. I respected her decisions and loved the way she handled everything.

The writing was so real! This author had a way of describing things that put you 'right there' in the moment seeing everything play out in front of your eyes. It was witty, smooth flowing with just the right touch of snark to keep me smiling throughout.

Ok - now here's what really and truly made this book GOLD to me. The characters were just so functional!! Never once did I want to throttle anyone or throw the book at the wall.  Now, don't get me wrong, there was heart-break, the characters messed up and it was certainly not all sunshine and rainbows but the way they reacted to everything was believable and never over-the-top.

I also loved that the drama in this one was very personal. Yes, he was a world-famous rockstar but the issues here were all very relationship focused and 'internal' having to do with "them", not with paparazzi or his fame or anything.

I was totally connected to the characters every step of the way. I was happy when they were happy and my heart broke along side theirs.
"Love isn't always smooth or straightforward. It can be messy and painful," he said. "Doesn't mean it still isn't the most incredible thing that can ever happen to you."

I loved that they talked through their issues. I loved that there was no instant forgiveness and yet at the same time nothing was dragged out. It felt very balanced to me. Their healing after the heart-break was very believably paced and so by the end, I really felt that their happy ending had a foundation.
"His hands cupped my face, holding me to him. The kiss was so sweet and perfect. It was a promise, one that wouldn't be broken this time. We'd both learned from our mistakes and we'd keep learning all our lives."

This is a book about taking chances and following your heart and dreams. It was a feel-good rock star romance with just the right amount of everything you could possibly want in one.

Seriously guys, this book has no game-playing, no stupidity, no unnecessary drama, believable issues, and understandable reactions. It has very "real" characters who make mistakes and yet try to fix them. It was a great blend of warm fuzzies, hotness and heart ache with a wonderfully happy ending that took it's time and made me 'believe'. Bottom line... I loved it!!

Highly recommended!

PS - this is the first book in a series but it reads as a standalone. No cliffhanger. Each book will be about a different couple and I can't wait for the next in the series!

4.5 Lickable Stars!!!
 photo 30d285bf-e9c0-416b-93d1-9601e90cdd6b_zps020e7a2a.jpg

This was such a fun and sweet book! A really enjoyable read!

Going out for her 21st birthday, Evelyn wants to get a little wild, have a little fun. So she goes to Vegas with her best friend. The last thing she remembers is taking shots after midnight... the next morning she wakes up with a ring on her finger and a tattoo on her ass. And she can't remember a damn thing.

 photo f5430136-1a83-4ff4-ba03-4e90439dd82d_zps46a0cf13.jpg

All I know is if I woke up married to this guy with a 5 carat rock on my finger, I would be asking NO QUESTIONS at all ;)

David remembers everything, yet Evelyn can’t remember a thing... It hurts him.
‘David, you’re hedging. Come on. It’s not fair that you remember and I don’t.’

‘No, it’s not fair that I remember and you don’t, Evelyn.’

Evelyn has her life mapped out. Getting married to a rockstar she just met on her 21st birthday is not part of that plan. David isn’t happy that Evelyn doesn’t remember anything. He married her for a reason, he fell for her right away, and now he doesn’t know what to do about it. It’s a pretty messed up situation. Once the media catches wind of this its even more crazy. Ev and David go away for a bit to get away from the crowds and decide what to do. To divorce or not to divorce... that is the question.

While at David’s home away, the couple starts to get to know one another. Evelyn realizes that she really likes David. She may even be falling for him. She is afraid to tell him her feelings. David still feels hurt and betrayed that Evelyn remembers nothing of their night together. One thing is pretty obvious... they both want each other.

 photo d536e2f0-c05a-4914-85e7-5426e1eae9c1_zps87537938.jpg

David + Evelyn = super hot chemistry! They decide to make a go of their relationship.
damn the consequences, you know you can probably fly. If you can’t, imagine the thrill of the fall.

Once they go back to LA, everything changes. There are a lot of issues, miscommunications etc. Things get screwed up. It’s a little heart breaking. David and Ev spend some time apart, but David realizes...

 photo 41980faf-e816-4966-8140-a98801ba835c_zps8857c012.jpg
“Why don’t you go back to LA?”

“My wife lives in Portland.”

Was this the biggest mistake of their lives, or are these two truly meant to be???
‘It’s you and me against the world.’

I LOVE ROCKSTAR BOOKS! David Ferris was pretty amazing. This was so entertaining, I couldn’t put it down. David wasn’t perfect, he made some mistakes, but neither was Ev. They were, however, better together than apart.
‘I married you, Evelyn, because you made sense to me. We make sense. We’re a whole lot better together than apart. You notice that?’

‘Yeah, I really did.’

Evelyn had her annoying moments, but overall I really liked her. Lick was told from her pov. She was a genuine person, down to earth, real, and pretty hilarious at times. David was just too damn lickable. Hot. Sweet. Swoony. Sexy. Loved him! Their relationship was unconventional, far from perfect, but it worked for them. I loved the two of them together. Sometimes, opposites really do attract. David needs someone to keep him grounded, and Evelyn needs someone to get her to break out of her comfort zone, following her plan isn’t the most important thing in life.

I’m so glad this is a series... I am very excited to read a Mal book! Fun, sweet, hilarious, sexy, feel-good read! Just a touch of drama and angst, but not overkill. A wonderful rockstar book that will keep a smile on your face!

I'm not sure what to say about this book. I didn't hate it, but didn't love it either. Since there were more things that I disliked than I liked, two stars is more than fair.

-WARNING SPOILERS-

The story had a solid beginning. After I read the first chapter I was very exited. I was sure it will be at least a 4 star read.
Ev wakes up one morning, in a hotel room in Vegas, with the biggest hangover of her life, a wedding ring on her finger and a tattoo with a name "David" on her ass, with no memory of how all of those things happened. Uh-oh :-).
She came to Las Vegas with her friend to let loose and have fun and took things a little too far.
The guy next to her in bed is gorgeous, shoulder-long dark hair, well build, tattoos all over, just how I like 'em :-). The problem is she doesn't know who he is or how he got there.
David is being nice and attentive, while she is freaking out, understandably. They exchange few awkward sentences, she throws up on him a time or two before running out to catch a plane home.
When she get's to Portland she gets a shock of her life when paparazzies attack her at the airport asking all kinds of weird questions.
Here I thought "Let the good times roll" :-D. I knew they would end up together eventually, I just thought that I will have a blast reading about them going at each other, hating each other, fighting, while discovering things that they liked about one another and falling in love.. It was nothing of sort.

The more I read the more it seemed that the Ev in the first chapter and Ev in the rest of the book were two completely different characters. The first one sounded fun and adventurous, the Ev in the rest of the book was wishy washy, whining drama queen.
For me things went south after she went to his place to sign the divorce papers. I thought it was annoying when she started to call him her husband. I understand that technically he was her husband, but the way she kept saying it made it sound like she owned him, like they've been married for years or something.
I didn't like that they patched things up so soon. The words "true love" were used 3 days into their marriage :-S. Seriously???

To my disappointment, the high point of the story was when Ev walked in on David being kissed by Amanda. It was no-brainer, she walked in on something that wasn't what it looked like, but author made this huge drama out of it and dragged it on and on through the rest of the story. I'm so sick of this type of drama, it has been done a million times over, come up with something more creative.

Ev:
She is a weird one. I'm going to echo what my RB Alex said, she is geeky, and not in a sexy way. I also thought that her wording was very strange.
"His gaze lingered on my breasts until finally he dipped his head, taking one into his mouth."
Sh!t! The whole thing??? Either her breasts are very small or he has a huge mouth :-S.
"Without fuss he dealt with the condom."
I've never heard anyone making a fuss about disposing a condom. Ev made it sound like there was something to make fuss about, but David, being a gentleman that he is, never did. Was there something that author left unsaid? Did condom exploded? What happened? I want to know!
"I really didn't need him catching me sniffing at his crotch, no matter how poetic my thoughts. That would be embarrassment on a scale I'd prefer not to experience."

First of all, I think there is a word missing there. Alex? Second, Ev, you make it sound like sniffing guys crotches is unheard of. I do it all the time :-D :-D :-D.
But seriously, why would you want to sniff his crotch? That's the question of the day. Were there bees buzzing around it and you thought it might smell like honey?
"He didn't have much of a belly button. It was basically a small indent followed by a fine trail of dark hair leaning down across his flat stomach directly to it. And it was hard, thick, and long.
It being his penis, of course."
Of course! Phew, thank god it was his penis. For a second there I thought that scary ass raccoon will pop out from under the covers :-D.

"Face to face with my girly bits."
Freaky stuff. Her girly bits have a face :-S. I think I saw a scary movie once, where girls vagina had teeth. The face thing sounds almost as scary :-S.
"People in love were sickening. It was a proven medical fact."
Who proved it ? I wanna a name!
"I tucked my hair behind my ears because my ponytail had started falling apart again. Perfect metaphor for my life."
I don't know about it being a perfect metaphor, but it will do if you can't come up with a better one.
"He tramped up the stairs behind me, not really bothering to look around."

First of all, why would he be looking around? It's not like you lived in a cave. And second, how would you know he never looked around, he was walking behind you?

"Does your heart understands you're finished with her? I guess I mean your head, don't I?"
Beats the hell outta me. Who the hell knows what you mean anymore. I should have stop trying to understand a long time ago :-S.

There were couple wtf moments. The biggest one was when she almost had a stroke when she saw David's erection twitch. Funniest thing ever :-D. I would recommend to read this book for that scene alone.

"His c@ck twitched and I jerked back, startled."
Scary stuff. I think I would have passed out if I was in her situation, she handled it like a champ. And here I thought raccoon jumping out would have been scary :-D.

There were a lot of unnecessary adverbs like "obviously" and "clearly".

I'm all for authors getting creative, coming up with new and original phrases, but this one took it a little too far. Which left me confused more often than not. Even kindle dictionary didn't know the meaning of some of them. I was googling the hell out of some of them.

"I felt curiously naked with him now," ?
"Curiosity got the better of me, or maybe it already had." ?
"My spine snapped to attention."?
"It made me small and shut me down inside."?
"as per my usual modus operandi"
I'm not sure what that means, but it sounds very cool :-D.
"Face screwed up in confusion"
Sounds very cartoonish.
For a girl that couldn't come up with a better word for David's penis than "it" you, Ev, used a lot of big words. "Minuscule", "omnipotent" and "discombobulated". Now that's funny :-D.

David:
He is not your typical rock star. He doesn't have a single bad-boy bone in his body. His personality is too mellow and too vanilla for a persona like him. I liked him at first, but soon he jumped on the same train with Ev, heading for town Weird-Phrases-Big-Words-and-Things-That-Make-Little-To-No-Sence.

My problems with him tarted when Ev walked in on him and Amanda, and when he stood there speechless, mouth ajar. Then he started shouting for her to leave. Spanish telenovela much?
It took him 28 days to come to her. So much for true love :-).

"I care about your periods, Ev. Honestly to f@ck I do."
That's good to know, David, not a lot of guys do :-D.
"David: She surprised me when she kissed me. That's why I didn't stop her right away."
If someone would have been trying to suck my face off, my surprised reaction would have been hulk-punch him in the face and ask questions later. That's a slowest surprised reaction ever. It reminded me a little of Ev's none-kick in the balls :-).
"I didn't kiss you at the studio today because it felt like there was still too much up in the air between us. It didn't feel right."
Oh no? But f@cking her in the alley against the wall wasn't too much too soon? What's the deal with no kissing, people? You sound like a hooker, David :-).
"Your parents looked about ready to have kittens."
I guess he meant they were angry. I've seen a cat giving birth couple of times and it's not dramatic at all :-). Badass analogy for a badass rock star :-D. Weirdest analogy ever.

There was a character that I liked, Mal. He was very cool and funny. I hope he will get his own book. I'll defiantly read it.

All and all, it's a two "meh" stars from me.

I LOVE ROCK STAR STORIES....it's so true...I CAN'T RESIST THEM...
 photo download3_zpsc12029ce.jpg

LICK may not be the most believable rock star story ever written, but nevertheless it was an enjoyable read.

The cover and title interested me…the rock star hero looked kind of dreamy, hot and sexy and I wondered what “lick” had to do with the story…..more about that later!!!!
and , yes, David is quite a dish photo images3_zpsbd3f12e7.jpg and believe me I would not mind being one of his “groupies”!!! and no….I found that “lick” meant nothing in the story!! Or did it and I just “miss” it????

The plot has been very well described in the many previous reviews of this book….nice girl meets rock star, fall in love and you know...the whole thing (I’m trying hard not to give any spoilers away!!!)….but with a bit of a twist……..read….meet in Vegas and not remembering that she’s now married…to a ROCK STAR!!!!
That’s what happened to poor Eve…did I just say poor!!!!!! Nothing of that girl….how can anyone not be “over the moon” finding herself hitched to someone like David!!!! Eve needs her head read!!!!!!!!! That’s MHO!!!!! photo images10_zps81d5a70e.jpg
I was a bit confused – David is supposedly one of those bad-ass rock stars but in fact as his character develops he actually is nothing like that. He’s probably one of the “nicest” ones I have ever read in a book!!! Guess I that means I kind of like this guy after all!
 photo images4_zps7fb2eaf1.jpg

Say What??? This is a story that’s funny, sometimes OTT, often unbelievable (rolling of eyes a few times...), cute, silly, endearing, likable and unlikable too, lots of DRAMA….. But….just roll with it and think…hey ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE IN FICTION…right!!!!...you begin to enjoy turning the pages, meeting some interesting and quirky characters….Mal (loved this guy) and Jimmy (David’s OOC (out of control) brother….both band members and their stories should be quite fun and interesting (hey, they are going to get their own book, right????).

The dialogue was a bit “out there” but after a while, I got into it and just went with the flow!!!!
 photo images8_zps19505c30.jpg

Oh man….so many times I thought of that title…you know the one…..LICK!!!! Visions filling my head with…..images….

Wrapping it all up….would I read the next books in this series????

ABSOLUTELY YES….. I want Mal & Jimmy!!!!!!!!!!

A nice quick story which was fun to read. It slightly felt like something I've already read before. Some clichés here and there. However it was fine, I really enjoyed reading this novel. Very relaxing.
Especially Mal's humour totally helped this book and Jimmy seems rather intriguing. Brothers competing is usually so much fun.

4 to 4 1/2–I'm glad I gave this book a second chance–Stars

After my first failed attempt to read this book–explained in my original review below–I knew it would be a good idea to put it aside for awhile before giving it another try. Boy, am I glad I decided to give it another go. I loved this book! I loved the characters, the plot, and the love story. I ended this book with a huge smile on my face.

7/8/13 Revised Review

GOODNESS GRACIOUS! Did I ever put my foot in my mouth with my original review of Lick. Word to the wise, if you know you're an emotional mess from the previous book you've just read, have been up half the night reading your next book and are bone tired, and you're having a difficult time following the plot, maybe it's a good idea to put the book down for the night. Unfortunately, I didn't heed this advice and misconstrued what the author had written. As I read it again with fresh eyes, what I thought was cheating most definitely WAS NOT!!! And I can not stress that enough.

This book deserves a fair review, as I really enjoyed it up until I created a different sub-plot. That said, I need some time before immersing myself in it again, as, frankly, I tainted it for myself.

My apologies to the author, to potential readers, and to those who follow my reviews.

A special thanks to Natasha and Jenny for taking the time to help me understand the mistake I made. Both of you are FIRST CLASS!!

Ehh. Like 2.25 maybe.

So, this was a bit of a weird one. I really didn't believe that the FMC was the kind of girl to get all out drunk, blackout, marry a famous rockstar via Elvis in Vegas and tattoo his name on her ass. She was the lamest Mary Sue and totally inexperienced chick.

Some of the phrases and scenes in the story had me looking at my ipad like what?

He kissed the stuffing out of her? LOL. That really feels like something my grandma would say- not a 20 something year old.

Then, when his 🍆 jerked she had a whole ass jump scare?

I mean, this is the same girl??

The MMC was really kind of cringe. Idk. He just gave me the ick. The jealously and the way he would lose his cool with her over his own insecurities was pretty gross.

I really felt like this had so much promise, the premise sounded so good and if the characters weren't so cringy and ick I feel like it could have made a really interesting story, but alas the author didn't go that route.

Not sure if I'll give the next one in the series a go yet.

Imagine going to Vegas for the weekend, getting rip roaring drunk and having no memory of the night before but waking up to find out you married a famous guitarist. I mean. Girl. Things could be far worse lol. This doesn't seem so bad.

4 Rock Stars!

This book was all I've ever needed in a rock star romance story. Lick was a sweet, fast moving, and guilty-pleasure book that was a pure joy to read.

description

The story began when Evelyn "Ev" Thomas woke up with a realization that she's married to the famous lead guitarist of Stage Dive band, David Ferris. She happened to forget the details on how she got married to him though, because apparently it was a drunken marriage that happened in Vegas. Now she is in for a crazy and unexpected ride of her life-- being a Mrs. David Ferris wherein she has to deal with paparazzi stuffs and obsessed fans. And being someone who's confused whether she wants the marriage to continue or not-- given the fact that it was an insta-marriage kind and that David is still a stranger, after all.

First of all, I loved David. I've read a few rock star stories with equally hot rock star leads but David is quite different. Apart from being a man-candy who has an intoxicating charm all over his body, this guy knows exactly how to care for his woman. I loved the way he extended his sweetness for Ev and the way he chased after her when things got bad.

Our heroine Ev is also likeable, although I wish to see more depth in her character. Despite the absence of that factor though, I found her feelings for David genuine. She didn't care about how rich and famous David is but instead she treated him like an ordinary guy. As for the side characters, I found them really adorable and interesting-- especially Mal and Jimmy. I can't wait to read their stories in the next books of this series!

Overall, this book met my expectations. It didn't fail to surprise me and make me smile the whole time I was reading it. I loved that it was just light and easy read, without unnecessary dramas. I also loved how it was written in an enticing and delicious way. It's my first time to read Kylie Scott's work and she sure made me fall in love with her writing style.

(I've read this book for the #NALitLoversPH #NewAdultAndBeyondPH readalong)

Love isn’t always smooth or straightforward. It can be messy and painful,” he said. “Doesn’t mean it isn’t still the most incredible thing that can ever happen to you. Doesn’t mean I’m not crazy about you.”

description

“Play that lick again, Dave.”

Lick: In rock music, a lick is "a stock pattern or phrase" consisting of a short series of notes that is used in solos and melodic lines.

Well, personally, I prefer the more literal meaning...

Hold me
Kiss me
LICK ME!!

DAVID FERRIS, YOU CAN LICK ME ANYTIME!

description

What are the last or maybe the BEST words, a girl is expecting to hear, when she wakes up from an night of partying in Las Vegas with no recollection of the last 12 hours, with a hangover from hell and the first thing she sees, is a gorgeous bare-chested male specimen?

“So, congratulations. You’re married to a rock star.”

Well organized and sensible Evelyn Thomas' life is turned upside down, when she wakes up with a humongous diamond ring on her finger, married to famous Stage Dive’s guitarist David Ferris. But she got nothing to worry, right?

description

WRONG! So, so wrong...
She and David, will unexpectedly find what they were looking for in each other’s arms. Passion, love and understanding. The meaning of their existence and some unexpected truths about themselves.

“Damn the consequences, you know you can probably fly. If you can’t, imagine the thrill of the fall.”

description

They will come to be each other’s everything and decide to give in to love, until some secrets and rockstar painful truths, will try to pry them apart, breaking their new-found happiness. Will Ev forgive David and give him another chance? Will David fight for her with everything he has and will prove to her that love worths taking a plunge and risk your heart in the process?

description

My inner fan-girl got loose, had a wild night in Vegas, joined a rock band and fell in love with a ROCKSTAR!!! Sweet Mother of God, WHAT DID I JUST READ???
David Ferris and The Stage Dive, made my hormones sing and my very robust reproductive organs, explode. *chuckle*

description

Funny and lighthearted, surprisingly deep and serious at the same time, romantic, heartbreaking and melodic as a rock ballad, this story stole my heart and warmed my soul. Fantastic one-liners, banter and interactions.
Highly recommended book; you will obsess, fell in love and despair, as a rock God will try to convince his soul mate, that they belong together. And oh boy, you will pray for him to succeed…

description

♪♫I thought I could let you go
I thought that you could leave and know
The time we took would fade
But I’m colder than the bed where we lay
You let go if you like, I’ll hold on
Say no all you want, I’m not done
Baby, I promise you
Did you think I’d let you go?
That’s never happening and now you know
Take your time, I’ll wait
Regretting every last thing I said♪♫

DNF at 61 %. No official rating from moi. When I started reading Lick I said I wouldn't rate it IF I wouldn't like it. I keep my word although I must say it was no more than a two-star read. Review posted July 23, 2013

That's exactly what a lot of authors are doing these days and there is no need to beat around the bush. THAT'S. NOT. GOOD. ENOUGH. FOR. ME.

 photo Bildschirmfoto2013-07-18um195036_zps40e7cc8e.png

The beginning was kinda cute, nothing mind-boggling, nothing amazingly good, but still. What I noticed right off the bat was the constant description of David's facial expression. Seriously? I really don't get it why an author would keep on writing about the same ole stuff. The eyebrow thingy or the scowling or whatnot. IT WAS TEDIOUS. This being said, it was good enough until they left to go to his house in Monterey aaaaand the whole thing went down the drain once and for all. I didn't get it why Ev was talking about TRUE LOVE two or three days after she WANTED to sign the divorce papers. Now that was a quick change of mind and so not believable. Overall Lick is another so-called rock star story that was simply 'blah'. Add in the fact that I've read How to Kill a Rock Star before I gave Lick a shot and a little disaster was bound to occur. These two books are worlds apart. HtKaRS is the best of the best. In all honesty, I hadn't expected to read another book of this epic magnitude but Lick licked lacked big time. I don't mean to go into details now because I don't want to waste my time by listing all my issues. All I will say is:

This book bored me and the sex was uninspiring. Besides, the characters were too bland and there was nothing badass about David either. The dialogue was weird at times. Ev talking about "it" made me roll my eyes. Call things as they are. Ev, baby, read my lips. C@ck, dick or whatever. It's not an "it." And a twitching c@ck shouldn't startle you either. You touched his c@ck. What did you expect? As long as no one is going to cut the dick off, "it" will move, you know? *facepalm*

"Cute. Are you on the pill?"
(…)
"I care about your periods, Ev. Honest to fuck I do." He kissed my cheeks, my forehead.
"Thanks."
"But right now I wanna know how you feel about us going bare?"
"You mean more than losing the shirts, I take it?"
"I mean f@cking without a condom."

Um…that's the point where I decided that I've had enough of Ev and her husband and abandoned the book.

Now we're coming to the good part coz I need a goody to give me solace. I'm a fan of Myles Kennedy and Alter Bridge. The man can sing, he plays a mean guitar and he writes great songs. And let's not forget his sexy arms. Yum! What more could a heart desire?

Yeah, Myles doesn't make me whole but he sure makes me happy with his music. Seeing Alter Bridge live was one hell of an experience. Good memories...

P.S. The cover was definitely better than the story.

P.P.S. I liked Mal. The guy was pretty fun and cool.

No need to dwell on it. Onwards...

Ok I’m going to try something completely different here.
Sometimes books remind you of certain songs, whether it be that a song is mentioned in the book I.e Angel in This Man. Mr Brightside in The Mighty Storm
Or sometimes things happen, emotions are explained and you think of certain songs…

I thought of a lot of songs while reading this…
So If this book was a musical I think it would go something like this…

Today, I woke up, thinking about Elvis somewhere in Vegas
I'm not sure how I got here
Or how this ring on my left hand just appeared outta nowhere
I gotta go take the chips and the Pinto and hit the road
They say what happens here, stays here, all of this will disappear
There's just one little problem
I don't even know my last name
Oh My momma would be so ashamed
It started off, "hey cutie where you from"
And then it turned into "oh no, what have I done"
And I don't even know my last name
What have I done

Last Name by Carrie Underwood

“It’s not fair that you remember and I don’t.”
“No,” he said, his voice hard, cold, in a way I hadn’t heard it. He looked over at me, jaw set. “It’s not fair that I remember and you don’t, Evelyn.”
- David to Evelyn

Always see it on T.V.
Or read in a magazines
Celebrities want sympathy
All they do is piss and moan
Inside the rolling stone
Talkin' about how hard life can be

Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous – Good Charlotte

“You asked me this morning in the car if I thought you were scary. The answer is yes. You scare me shitless. I don’t know what I’m doing here. But I hate the thought of leaving you.” -Evelyn to David

Oh, take your time... Don't live too fast,
Troubles will come and they will pass.
You'll find a woman, yea yea, you'll find love,
And don't forget son,
There is someone up above.
And be a simple, kind of man.
Oh be something, you love and understand.
Baby be a simple, kind of man.
Oh, won't you do this for me son,
If you can?

Simple man – Shine down/Lynyrd Skynyrd

"I'm surprised you stuck with me." Stunned was closer.
"Why wouldn't I? he asked. "You treated me like normal person. We talked about every day stuff. You weren't angling to get anything out of me. You didn't act like I was a different fucking species. When you looked at me it felt..."
"What?"
He cleared his throat. "I dunno Doesn't matter."
"Yes you do. And it does."
He groaned.
"Please?"
"Fuck's sake," he muttered, shifting uncomfortably in this seat. "It felt real okay? It felt right. I don't know how to explain it."
- David and Evelyn.

Somehow I found
A way to get lost in you
Let me inside
Let me get close to you
Change your mind
I'll get lost
If you want me to
Somehow I found
A way to get lost in you

Lost in you – Three Days Grace

"Yes, he said simply. I like you the way you are, blurting out whatever shit crosses your mind. Not trying to play me, or use me. You're just... being with me. I like you." - D to E

Just waiting for an angel
To take me out of my hell
I'm falling for you
Just dropping out of thin air
You came out of nowhere
Right out of the blue
When heaven sent you
And night after night I didn't sleep
But that was before you laid beside me
When all of my demons were dancing with me
I'm glad you came down because I was in too deep

Heaven Sent by Hinder

“Love isn’t always smooth or straightforward. It can be messy and painful" he said. "Doesn’t mean it isn’t still the most incredible thing that can ever happen to you. Doesn't mean I'm not crazy about you”

Don't tell me you're sorry 'cause you're not
Baby when I know you're only sorry you got caught
But you put on quite a show
Really had me going
But now it's time to go
Curtain's finally closing
That was quite a show
Very entertaining
But it's over now
Go on and take a bow

Take a bow – Rhianna

My heart must have given up. Blood wasn't flowing. How bizarre. My hands and feet were ice cold. I shook my head. I had nothing.

I used to be love drunk, but now I'm hung over
I'll love you forever, forever is over
We used to kiss all night, now it's just a bar fight
So don't call me crying
Say hello to goodbye
Cause just one sip would make me sick
I used to be love drunk, but now I'm hung over
I'll love you forever, but now it's over

LOVE DRUNK –Boys like girls

I couldn't stop the tears this time. They started flowing, and once they started flowing, and once they started they wouldn't stop. I wiped at them uselessly, then just gave up and covered my face in my hands. "Fuck."

I'm sorry I'm bad, I'm sorry you're blue, I'm sorry about all things I said to you
And I know I can't take it back
I love how you kiss, I love all your sounds, and baby the way you make my world go round
And I just wanted to say I'm sorry:
This time I think I'm to blame it's harder to get through the days
You get older and blame turns to shame
Every single day I think about how we came all this way
The sleepless nights and the tears you cried it's never too late to make it right
Oh yeah sorry!

Sorry by Buckcherry

"Y-You're here," I stuttered out...
"Yeah." His blue eyes burned. Music kept playing, people kept moving. The world only stopped turning for me.

I will never let you fall (let you fall)
I'll stand up with you forever
I'll be there for you through it all (through it all)
Even if saving you sends me to heaven
It's okay. It's okay. It's okay.
Seasons are changing
And waves are crashing
And stars are falling all for us
Days grow longer and nights grow shorter
I can show you I'll be the one
I will never let you fall (let you fall)
I'll stand up with you forever
I'll be there for you through it all (through it all)
Even if saving you sends me to heaven
Cuz you're my, you're my, my, my true love, my whole heart
Please don't throw that away
Cuz I'm here for you
Please don't walk away and
Please tell me you'll stay woah, stay woah

Your Guardian Angel - Red Jumpsuit Apparatus

“Do you actually state what a pain in the ass I am in these songs?”
“Not those words exactly. No.” He chuckled, his good humour returned. “You don’t want me to lie and say everything’s always fucking unicorns and rainbows, do you?”
“Maybe. Yes. People are going to know these are about me. I have a reputation as a constant delight to protect.”

Hey
Do you feel, do you feel me?
Do you feel what I feel, too?
Do you need, do you need me?
Do you need me?
You're so beautiful
But that's not why I love you
And I'm not sure you know
That the reason I love you is you
Being you
Just you
Yeah the reason I love you is all that we've been through
And that's why I love you

I love You – Avril Lavingne…

Yep so that basically covers the story.
As per the characters… Love them… I’ll admit “David” isn’t a very hardcore rocker name. But I did fall for him, he was beautiful.
No epilogue though! And I have no idea who the next book is about..
Or why the book is called Lick actually now that I think about it...

Wonderfully written with a great supporting cast.
LOVED MAL!

Will def be reading the next in the series!

4 DAVID FERRIS STARS

"so, congratulations. You're married to a rockstar."

description

Yes, yes, yes cinderella meets 'what happened in Vegas' meets a rockstar romance all combined to create the best kind of blissful book escape. 'Lick' was full of all kinds of treats, Rock God, famous beyond measure hero sweeps ordinary 21 year old off her feet in a whirl wind romance destined to be forever, did I love this book? You don't even need to ask, it had everything I loved tied up in a rock star package and as far as books in this genre go, this came out with a humongous thumbs up from me.

description

Whats it all about? (if you haven't already guessed)
Evelyn 'Ev' Thomas is an ordinary 21 year old looking for fun in Vegas for her birthday, a young woman who lives on the boring, safe side of life finds herself thrown into the limelight when her birthday celebrations are taken a step too far with a certain yummy rock God, David Ferris. David is the lead singer of famous band 'stage dive' looking for that something different from his hectic lifestyle, he meets our heroine and falls head over, as in most books of this genre there is more than meets the eye with this gorgeous hero, a character i'm convinced most readers will fall for. 'Lick' is a predictable but entertaining story which captivates a modern but classic take of a cinderella romance. Will these loveable characters find their perfect ending? ...

What did I love?
David Ferris, David Ferris ... Hmmm David Ferris, you got that? Yes Im not in denial about my crush on this fictional character he was a dreamy book companion and filled out my 4 ish plus hours of reading time quite nicely thank you. But on to other matters of the book, this story filled my need for easy reading perfectly. If you roll your eyes or get a little frustrated at predictable story lines or a little over done before plots then this may grate a little but for me it was what I love about a book, no over angst no unnecessary tears, just pure undiluted easy, peasy, lemon, squeezy reading. The writing style flowed at a lovely pace, it was entertaining and well edited and all around a fun, sweet and sexy book. I can't wait for more from the characters, the author added just the right amount from supporting characters to get me interested in future story lines.

Final thoughts ...
For my reading experience it doesn't really register if a story is unbelievable or fairy style fiction that's why I love reading - to escape to read about lives that are far fetched and dreamy and that's what 'Lick' delivered for me. This story is a great all rounder for those that love a Rock star romance with a slice of sweet and sexy served on the side. Go grab it readers ...

Just a little more of David AKA I HEART Jared Leto ...

4 So We're Spooning Stars ⭐

Sometimes you gotta head back to your reading roots to rediscover those long forgotten gems. God it's been years since I've read the Stage Dive series and I love the fact it doesn't feel dated.

The first book in the series, Lick, starts with a couple waking up wedded in Vegas. And not just anyone. Nope a rockstar whose pissed when he realizes his bride doesn't remember squat...

"It’s not fair that you remember and I don’t."

"No," he said, his voice hard, cold, in a way I hadn’t heard it. He loomed over me, jaw set. "It’s not fair that I remember and you don’t, Evelyn."

They may have started on a rocky footing but David Ferris and Evelyn have established one thing from their surprise marriage. They both want to give it a go. However they now need to learn each other; it's dating in reverse.

"Why would we wanna start being conventional now, huh?"

A musician with trust issues and a girl with limited relationship experience. Circumstances get interesting quickly but it works. With chemistry in spades and an abundance in respect, humor and acceptance goes a long way.

I was going to kill him. Slowly. Strangle him with the overpriced thong. A fitting death for a rock star.

This was so effortless to read. You have to appreciate why this series was so successful. With a man that proves that fame is worthless without someone at your back and a young woman more than capable of being that person, Lick was sexy and sweet. 💙🎸

When Evelyn Thomas made plans to have an unforgettable night in Vegas for her 21st birthday, she had no clue that she would wake up the next morning Married to A stunning Rock God...David Ferris

But the problem is, Evelyn doesn't remember how it happened???

A shocked Evelyn thinks she's made the biggest mistake of her life because not only is she married, she has his name tattooed on her ass!!

Now what??

Divorce? Or get the marriage Annulled?

She tells her family who are not very impressed and are going crazy.

"Apparently now no decent boy from a good family would ever marry me. Previously, I’d been unlikely to land a man due to my various lumps and bumps. But now it was all on the tattoo. I’d decided to forego pointing out to her that I was already married."

David asks Evelyn to come to LA while they get the divorce papers ready and to get away from the media.

This is when she finds out what happened that night in Vegas and that David knew exactly what he was doing.

"It’s not fair that I remember and you don’t, Evelyn.”

Maybe it wasn't a mistake after all and they really are perfect for each other?

"Love isn’t always smooth or straightforward. It can be messy and painful,” he said. “Doesn’t mean it isn’t still the most incredible thing that can ever happen to you. Doesn’t mean I’m not crazy about you.”

"It’s you and me against the world.”

But there is bound to be some hurt and drama which keeps you excited to read on!

"There wasn’t enough room in me for all the feelings he inspired."

What a refreshing rock star love story with awesome characters!

“Rough sex doesn’t fix everything. Sometimes you actually have to talk.”

As much as possible, I try to push myself as a reader, to read beyond comfort zones, expand horizons and challenge my imagination. I've yet to scratch the surface of these wonderful worlds, yet to have read and quoted every heart-wrenching dialogue crafted especially to gut me every imaginable way...

But sometimes, I just want to read some smut.

Not the funny, absurd kind with men who cums jarfuls of semen but the smut that calls to the romantic in me that answers the call of the hot, tattooed rockstar... Like the Thundercats answering Lion-O.

Unfortunately, I am not a Thundercat (dammit!) and while the lure of sex, drugs and rock and roll is strong on this one, I could not switch off that part of me that needs to connect with the characters, to make sense of their actions and thoughts that enables me to empathize with their requisite drama and share in their joy as they triumph against all odds.

I thought the premise of Lick was promising: a girl wakes up in Vegas married to a rockstar without any such recollection on their wedding night. Mixing rock and roll with matrimony always end up with something interesting. John and Yoko, Mick and Bianca, Tommy and Pamela... Need I go on? So the first chapter really hooked me in, because the possibilities of squee and shenanigans was endless as Evelyn, the plain, country music loving heroine, tries to piece together her night of debauchery with a stranger who turns out to be rock icon David Ferris.

The succeeding chapters called for some meditating with my WHAT WOULD BRITNEY DO bracelet.

If I found out a total stranger married me while I was drunk, while KNOWING full well I was drunk, I probably would've demand for a divorce then go back home. Which was what Ev did. Yay Ev!

But probably not get on a private plane to LA immediately after landing from Vegas, back to the stranger I married, in order to escape the paparazzi camped at my house. To sign my divorce papers.

From there every scene was solely between David and Evelyn, which was good for the steam factor but not for either characters' personality details. They never spent any time apart longer than a few pages, and when they do, you could smell the contrived plot device to have one of them turn up unannounced two paragraphs in. I was around 50% in when I realized I don't know enough about these people to care about their drama. Who was Evelyn the daughter? The friend? The sister? Who is David beyond his fame and fortune? Where does his principle stand on the lifestyle he's in? What's their stand on same-sex marriage and the genocide in Uganda?

Something. Anything for me to latch on to care beyond the sex. Some of these questions did get answered. In the end. At which point I was too exhausted to care and suddenly giving a damn about these people felt moot with only a chapter to go. Sadly, the only character who I felt like I understood was Martha because her actions at least bore some semblance of logic.

I also felt the story failed to capitalize on two of its strongest plot points: David and Ev's drunk marriage and David and Jimmy's relationship. The former got resolved halfway through the book putting a kibosh on the tension (which is always the best part) and just going all out on the sexeh (which was mediocre at best). I found the David and Jimmy dynamics to be severely lacking, in terms of being band mates and brothers. Who didn't pick a side between Liam and Noel Gallagher? That little nugget of conflict could have powered this book on its own but wasn't exploited much, unfortunately.

The writing was a bit all over the place. Most of the time it was okay and I didn't get bothered by it, but there were stretches that sounded like Ev needed some Ritalin.
“Does your heart understand you’re finished with her? I guess I mean your head, don’t I? The heart’s just another muscle, really. Silly to say it decides anything.”

So many thoughts, so few pages! Furthermore, Ev's inner thoughts have moments that have that brand of strange bordering on funny where I'm not sure if I should laugh or frown.
“He treated me like I was precious. Like I was a china doll. One he could apparently have rough sex with upon occasion.”

"I needed new panties and a heart transplant."

I feel this would have worked better as a novella, because as a quick and sexy romp this would have totally delivered. I would then just take it for the fun and sexytimes that it did provide and I wouldn't have any material to overanalyze and pick on, no grief to give the cardboard personalities of both leads. But as the plot thickened so did the expectations which, unfortunately this one fell short out of. To modify David's words:
“With great breasts more pages, come great responsibility.”

“Let me get this straight, you don’t remember anything?”

“No,” I said, swallowing hard. “What did we do last night?”

“We got fucking married.”

I nearly crapped myself when I realized what Lick (stupid title is seriously effing stupid) was about . . . .

commercial photography locations

Oh my glob how I love the woke up married to a stranger storyline. Then I found out the stranger in question was a sexy musician!!!!

commercial photography locations

BWAHAHAHAHA! Good luck getting that image out of your head. Per usual, once I read “very attractive half-naked man” my brain said yes please and cast my perfect leading male . . . .

commercial photography locations

Please note said leading male was actually a member of the long hair don’t care club, but long haired Leto just doesn’t do the same thing for me . . . .

commercial photography locations

Because banging Jesus is probably a cardinal sin.

But I digress.

So the story here is that Evelyn goes to Vegas with her bestie for her 21st birthday and decides she’s gonna let her freak flag fly with a one-nighter . . .

commercial photography locations

Things don’t go quite as planned, however, when she wakes up with her head in a toilet and a 5 carat rock on her left hand. Turns out baby married a rock-n-roller but doesn’t remember a diddly dang dong thing about it.

Then we enter the pretty typical for a romance category and somehow David the Rock God is totally down with the whole death do us part mumbo jumbo and pretty offended that his wife suffers from a severe case of CRS (that’s Can’t.Remember.Shit for all you classy mah fahs). Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut, also in typical romance fashion there is a delay in the annulment process and the two fall in instalurv within a few days. And then of course . . . .

WHICH I AM GOING TO SPOIL RIGHT HERE BECAUSE IT’S A DEALBREAKER FOR A LOT OF YOU

This was another story that ended up just being okay because of the aforementioned dramatic twist. The sex was pretty sexy – except when he wanted her to watch him while he went downtown. I can live without looking at my own lady garden getting tended thank you very little. It was also refreshingly realistic with respect to how a pretty inexperienced partner would handle her first few trips to Pound Town. But the best part of the whole thing? Mal. I already checked out his story from the library and . . . .

just thinking about it.

4 1/2 ~ I Married a Rockstar ~ Stars

description

Lick (Stage Dive 1) was such a refreshingly done rockstar book. I haven’t read anything by this author but will be checking out her books because I really LOVED Kylie Scott’s writing style!

Kylie Scott can write inner dialogue like no one’s business. I laughed and smiled at how completely hilarious and clever she writes her characters, they seemed so real. To say I enjoy this breath of fresh air would be putting mildly!

This story grabs a reader from the first paragraph as our main character Evelyn wakes up in Vegas MARRIED. The beginning kind of reminded me of the 2008 movie What Happens in Vegas which I loved. She wakes with a 5 freaking karat diamond ring on her hand and no recollection of the guy in her hotel room or anything that happened the night before when she was out celebrating her 21st birthday.

description

Evelyn was such a great female character. She wasn’t the perfect slim character but was curvy and she had me smiling and pleasantly surprised by her strength and heart. Evelyn has a life plan which includes following in her daddy’s footsteps as an architect so when she finds herself looking at the hottest piece of ass she has ever seen…she figures it was just one big drunken mistake and this newlywed couple decides to call it quits.

"When a girl like me wakes up married to a guy like you, what else can she possibly think? God, David, look at you. You're beautiful, rich, and successful."

David Ferris is the HOT guitarist/song writer for the rock back Stage Dive. This reader found him drool worthy!

description

Here’s a tidbit about David Ferris… he wasn’t too drunk and knew exactly what he was doing in Vegas.

Do you know what that means?

“It’s not fair that I remember you and you don’t, Evelyn.”

To annul or not to annul that is the question!!

On a hot scale...David and Ev were down right sexy together.

Although the miscommunication issue wasn’t unique (I HATE when this happens in books) I have to say that the story was a lot of fun both characters displayed growth and they definitely belong together!!

“Only this was real, me and him together. Everything else could come and go. I’d found what was worth fighting for.”

Lick was a very amusing story with terrific characters (loved Mal) and a terrific couple who was not only off the charts in the bedroom but had a connection worth holding onto.

4 STARS! ★★★★

Yet another impulsive read from me when I saw this book with a yummy cover at my bookstore and first thing I did was snapped a photo and messaged my lovely gurl, Rachel to see if she recc'd me this. Being the awesome friend she is who contributes to my wallet bleeding, she told me this book could cure my book hangover/slump and oh boy did I devour this one! ♥ It's been far too long since I read a rockstar romance read and jumping back into it, I realised how much I missed the fun smexy times of dating one of these bad boys.

It was a really fun read with hilarious banters all around from the band members like Mal <-- oh yes love him! and David was obviously swoon-worthy. The first half there I was a little apprehensive of how one can be so drunk to the extent of almost suffering amnesia of that night's events LOL. And also insta-love which I wished they would have explored more on instead of taking the love expressway. Took some suspension of disbelief from me but it didn't stop me at all from liking this one.

“With great breasts come great responsibility.”

What made it a solid 4-stars read for me is the angst galore towards the second half. I just ate that up when David had so much grovelling to do to get Evelyn back, so that makes me a very happy angst whore :D

Overall super fun smexy read of the rockstar romance genre and can't wait to read more from this series! Especially can't wait to meet Mal ♥

The only reason I'm re-reading this & Play is that I can finally finish this series, but it's really one of the OG rockstar romance and will always have a special place in my heart.

The beginning was interesting. I like the whole premise of "waking up married to a rockstar god and barely remembering anything of last night". David and Evelyn were fine, but the one who was carrying this book was Mal. He is so funny and I love him. 😭Jimmy was another characters that was more intriguing than the main characters and I can't wait to finally read his story, since it seems to be a favorite among this series.

Not bad, not good, not very memorable, but good enough to pass the time. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Eeeeeeee. Love love love it. Soooo perfect. And adorable. And hot. And brilliant.

A fantastic rock star romance. What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas, right??? Wrong!

When you accidently get married to one of the biggest rock stars on the planet, the ring, the paparazzi, the legal papers and the hubby himself are all still there, even after you leave Vegas... even if you have absolutely no recollection of the whole thing!

Good, respectable, sensible, Portland girl, Evelyn Thomas might have been planning on getting laid, on her 21st birthday, in Vegas... but she certainly hadn't planned on getting married. When she wakes up, hanging like a bitch, on a hotel bathroom floor, with no memory of marrying the gorgeous but mysterious man lying next to her, who is none other than David Ferris, guitarist of rock band, 'Stage Dive', the obvious answer to her problems is an annulment. A no-brainer, right?

But what if he does remember the whole thing? And what if he doesn't consider it to be the biggest mistake of his life?
And what if Evelyn actually realises she might quite like the sexy, dark, brooding God of rock?

David. David. David! *sigh* Awww, he's just to die for.

He isn't the mean, bad-boy man-whore that most of these rock star romance books deliver us... he's just lovely. He's attentive, sweet, caring, kind and he's hurt. It's clear, from the beginning, that David remembers the events of that fateful night and doesn't regret it like Evelyn does.

Can anybody say 'awwww'?? How can you not want to scoop him up and cuddle him? He wants her to be his wifey and she has no interest in even knowing who he is. Bless his little heart.

Evelyn is brilliant too. She's ordinary and refreshingly rational. It makes a change. She doesn't go flying off of the handle, over-reacting or falling at his feet at the first sign of 'sorry'. She's just a normal girl in a very abnormal situation. And she reacts accordingly. She's strong in her decisions, has self respect but isn't annoyingly stubborn or affected. I really, really liked her and was totally on board with her story.

The story is told from her POV and the writing is witty, funny and a breath of fresh air. I was giggling by the end of the first page. This is pure easy-reading.
I loved that the dialogue felt so real. The responses were things that real people might say. They 'Mmm's and 'yeh's that were used to punctuate a sentence. There was a lot of great banter, too.

So, post-Vegas, when Evelyn finds herself at David's mansion, in an attempt to escape the hoards of press outside her Portland home, things begin to change.

I loved watching Evelyn realise that she actually had feelings for David. And he sure as hell didn't make it a hard job to love him. Honestly, ladies, this guy is so damn cute. He'll do a total warm and fuzzy number on your hearts.

Don't be fooled though. There are some panty-combusting sex scenes in this book too... just to make sure you don't get a sugar rush from all of the sweet. Ooof, David is haaawt! Evelyn is inexperienced and nervous, and he takes such good care of her, whilst showing her the ropes! Mmmm mmm!

I have one query... I'd be grateful if somebody could fill me in here... whyyyy is this book called Lick??? It just seemed ever so random, to me.

This book is the first in the Stage Dive series. I believe book #2 is Mal's story. Mal is David's oldest friend and the drummer of the band. I absolutely loved his character. He is hilariously funny, kind hearted and a total lad.

I can't wait to read more from Kylie Scott. I think we may have found a new favourite fictional rock band, ladies!

Or, finding out you married to a rock star in Vegas. (Better than the shoe thing, I think.)

So, Evelyn wakes up in Vegas with a rock star husband and a tattoo of his name on her ass. The good news? His name is David. It could have been worse.

A lot worse.

Evelyn doesn't remember a thing and this upsets David because he thought he found his one true love in Las Vegas and married her the same night. Seriously, dude?
He's also a multimillionaire , famous rock star, etc... and didn't get a pre-nup.
Sooo, I'm thinking David isn't the sharpest tool in the shed.
But, he's hot, and the name of this book is "Lick", so I'll allow it.

That sidewalk power-nap may have helped them avoid this whole thing.

So, anguish, angst, long talks about their relationship... blah blah blah...
The book was not groundbreaking or different, but it was entertaining and made me chuckle a couple of times. Mostly, I'm just wanting to move on to the next book because the drummer, Mal, is awesomeness wrapped up in hotness.

LOVE. I am in love with Evelyn and David. Lick has the perfect blend of absolutely everything. There is fun, steam, drama, some more steam, and it is all filled with some very loveable characters.

"Love isn't always smooth or straightforward. It can be messy and painful ... Doesn't mean it isn't still the most incredible thing that can ever happen to you."

"Do you, Evelyn Jennifer Thomas, agree to stay married to me, David Vincent Ferris?"

"It's you and me against the world"

"David, for fuck's sake, I'm in love with you"

David Ferris will have you swooning and I have added him into your favourite rockstar book character list! *whispers* I am such a sucker for bad boy and rock star.... David Ferris is magical!

IT'S SMOKING HOT READ!!!!!!!!

4 amnesiac stars

I really enjoyed this opening book of the Stage Dive series from Kylie Scott – it’s charming, funny and deeply romantic full of well-rounded characters and a dynamic plot to keep you engaged right through to the very end.

Turns out, the old expression ‘What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas’ probably doesn’t apply if an Elvis impersonator is somehow involved.

"Let me get this straight, you don't remember anything?"
"No," I said, swallowing hard. "What did we do last night?"
"We got fucking married." he growled.

Uh oh! Yup, Evelyn has woke up after a night in Vegas remembering very little of the night before and is now throwing up in the hotel bathroom with a very gorgeous, tattooed Adonis checking to see if she is OK.  She has absolutely no recollection of meeting him but it turns out they got married while she was inebriated and, not only that, he’s one quarter of one of the biggest bands on the planet, Stage Dive.

I so enjoyed this – I don’t think it was taking itself too seriously. There’s plenty of humour to be found in here along with the angsty romance.  I think it taps into every girl’s fantasy that the Rock God she so adores can ditch his philandering ways and change his bad habits for the one girl who means everything to him – the girl next door type – basically, us the reader.

David has, of course, had his fair share of disposable groupies over the years and it was sweet to see how he saw something very genuine and refreshingly different in Evelyn.  Turns out that  night she can’t remember meant just about everything to him and, after her initial shock, she allows him to slowly and rather creatively help bring back the memories.

The book follows the well worn path of boy meets girl, boy and girl fall in love, boys fucks up ,monumentally and loses girl and boy does just about everything in his power to get her back but this isn’t trite at all – it’s well written and the narrative flows beautifully with Kylie Scott’s accomplished style and, with her easy humour, Lick is a charming and engaging read.

There’s a whole lot of series building going on here with the other members of the band being introduced in all their glory with the promise of some edgy rockstar romances to come as the series progresses. I think it’s a great beginning to a highly promising series and it’s my first read from Kylie Scott.  It won’t be my last.

5 'Can I be your wife, David Ferris?' Stars!!!

“Everything I’d heard about Vegas was true. Bad things happened here, terrible things.”

I have honestly, been going through a rockstar love phase lately, and I love every minute of it! I am three gosh damn years too late on reading this book. I am in such an incredible mood because I was in a terrible book slump for weeks because of A Bloody Kingdom (HIGHLY RECOMMEND!). I tried so hard to find a book that I didn't start and just put it down because It just wasn't as good as the last book I read, but I don't know what made me decide to start reading 'Lick', but I'm so blessed that I did. I hesitated at first because my first thought was 'I hope it isn't a slow start' but boy was I wrong. I loved how the moment you enter this story it gets straight to the point which kept me intrigued! Should I let you know about the story and characters? Yep, right on it... Sorry ;)

What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, right? Well, in Evelyn case, what happens in Vegas, leads to you marrying a stud of a rockstar. The story starts off with Evelyn waking up and seeing a stranger beside her (did I mention he was a stud?) and finding out she got married the night before. Uhhh.. did Evelyn panic? Totally. Evelyn couldn't remember anything at all, couldn't remember the long haired sexy blue-eyed stranger in front of her, why he was being so nice, why she had a huge rock on her finger, why her butt was aching (hehe), and why she'd went against all her plans. Evelyn ends up heading back home trying to forget and bury and keep a secret everything that happened in Vegas but little did she know that she would be swarmed with paparazzi ambushing her. Why are paparazzi's ambushing her? Well, that stud that she married was the one and only worldwide known guitarist David Ferris but no big deal, right?

“Wait a minute,” he said, watching me through narrowed eyes. “You’re just messing with me, aren’t you?”
“I’m so sorry.”
He physically recoiled from me. “Let me get this straight, you don’t remember anything?”
“No,” I said, swallowing hard. “What did we do last night?”
“We got fucking married,” he growled.”

Evelyn didn't know anything about her husband until the paparazzi, and her best friend, Lauren ensure her who he is. Evelyn only knows of Stage Dive (band name) and David because her best friend is beyond obsessed with them but other than that Evelyn is completely blindsided by everything about the band, bandmates, and her husband and the problems/issues that comes with them.

Lauren: I can handle him. Whatever happens, do not break up the band!!!
Me: Got it.
Lauren: But break his heart. He wrote San Pedro after what’s-her-face cheated on him. That album was BRILLIANT!
Me: Promise to leave him a broken quivering mess.
Lauren: That’s the spirit.

Just like the album David wrote about his ex, this story was just as BRILLIANT! I loved every second of the story and how It kept me interested to know what happens. But, the primary person that caught my attention the most was Mal. Mal is David's longest friend, and he's part of the band. He was the kindest to Evelyn from the moment he met her, and he wanted nothing more than to help Evelyn & David. Mal made me happy because of how he handled situations and how I he has such a good heart. His personality radiates off the pages. He's just a joy (I love him and can't wait to read his story!). No one knows how many moments Mal made the book a lot better.

“Go on, smile for Uncle Mal. You know you want to.”
I smiled half-heartedly.
“That’s a bullshit smile, and I’m ashamed of you. You’re not going to fool anyone with that. Try again.”
I tried harder, smiling ’til my cheeks hurt.
“Damn. Now you just look like you’re in pain.”

I loved the idea that David remembered everything and she didn't so we got to see how he knew her more than she knew him and how he would bring up some things she talked about that night that shocked her because she typically didn't tell people the things she told him. You could say that when things settled down that they just genuinely were at ease and comfortable with each other. The story was an Insta-love, which I'm sort of getting annoyed with in books but in the book I was all up for it. This story will have you understanding both the hero and heroine's side. It will have your heart strings yanking away with how Evelyn and David are with each other. It will have you smiling from cheek to cheek, chuckling at the things that are said from Mal to Evelyn to David. It will have you feeling as if you wished you were part of the book so you could help solve the problems that happen in it. I just love this book because once again it helped me out of my slump and because DAVID FERRIS!

Characters:
Everlyn

He nodded, cocked his head. “So what was your plan? Just kiss me, and see what happened?”
“My plan?”
“I know about you and your plans. You told me all about how anal you are.”
“I told you that?” I was an idiot.
“Yeah. You did. You especially told me about the big plan.” He stared down at me, eyes intense.”

Evelyn was an innocent, collected, organized, planned out person. She planned her life away, and anything outside of her plan was uncomfortable for her so you'd expect the thrill and fear for when she met and started to get to know David. What I loved the most about Evelyn was that even though she was innocent, she had a backbone and stood her ground and didn't let anyone push her over. She was witty and adorable, and I just felt protective over her just like David was (it was SO cute how protective he was over her). Another thing that I loved was how David brought the bad in her. He wanted her to get out of her shell. He challenged her and wanted her to be her own person and not to be someone she wasn't to make someone else happy. He just wanted her happy.

A hand smoothed over my hip, and he smiled down at me. “I’ll eat you out whenever you like. You only have to ask.”
I smiled back at him. And the smile may have twitched a little at the edges. Talking about this kind of thing was still new to me.
“Tell me you liked me licking your gorgeous pussy.”
“I said I liked it.”
“You’re embarrassed.” David’s brows drew together. There was mischief in his eyes. “You can talk rough sex on hardwood floors but not cunnilingus, hey? Say ‘pussy’.”
I rolled my eyes. “Pussy.”
“Again. Not as in ‘cat’.”

David

“Why don’t you go back to LA?”
Blue eyes watched me warily and he didn’t answer at first. “My wife lives in Portland.”

Davids is the favorite in the group; he writes the songs, plays guitar, bass, drums, sings and he's practically known as the rock n rolls favorite sons. Okay Okay, he was a big deal.

But with Evelyn, he was just vulnerable David. Even though David was vulnerable, he was also a jackass at times and the first 50% of the book I liked him a lot, but the last 50% of the book is where my obsession came in. He had the bad boy act all because he was a rock star but David was vulnerable, had huge trust issues and wanted to feel something 'real.' He's been hurt and cheated on many times (dumb whore *rolls eyes*) but marrying Evelyn was the best thing for him. What they had made him believe in love again and what they had was, real. He was a man of a few words but when he did say something, he meant it, and you felt every meaning. Evelyn helped David get out of a dark place and kept him grounded. She allowed him to be happy again, but David comes with a lot of baggage, and sometimes some people can't deal with the lies and heartache. Sometimes the fame isn't what everyone wants. And sometimes you just have to let go and not look back.

I took another step back, and his face hardened to fury. His hands fisted at his sides. “Don’t you dare fucking leave me. You promised!”
I didn’t know him at all. I stared at him, transfixed, letting his anger wash over me. It couldn’t hope to pierce the hurt. Not a chance.
“You walk out of here, and it’s over. Don’t you fucking think of coming back.”
“Okay.”

P.S. Is it weird that I liked how David said "yeah?" After the majority of his sentences? It's weird, isn't it? That's okay. I'll still like it

P.S. pt.2: Can we get David added onto my 'book husband' list, pronto? *snaps fingers*

Characters together:

I love love love this couple. They gave me everything I would want in a rock star romance. They gave the right amount of emotions, angst, steamy moments, 'I wish I was Evelyn' moments and more. Evelyn & David together are two people who weren't meant to meet, but somehow faith brought them together, it's just in time we'll learn if it was meant to be or just another lesson in both their lives

“Where are we going?” I asked David.
“Does it matter? Let’s just drive.”

Do you want a book that will get you out of a book slump? Read this book. Do you want a book that will make you laugh? Read this book. Do you want a book that is the quick read and lighthearted? Read this book. Do you want a rockstar on your boyfriend list? Read this book. Do you want to listen to me? Good, read this book!

Never in my life, have I woke up from a drunken night next to a super hot guy, who is filthy rich, and has already developed feelings for me..... why has this not happened to me yet.... I keep waiting... and it still isn't happening???😕

Maybe I need to quickly Book me a trip to Vegas....

This book just proves my point, if you like fantasy.... you will truly enjoy romance!💕 Even though this book was highly unlikely, to actually happen I still loved it!
Eve was a fabulous character... filled with spunk, sass, and clearly some unpredictability.... I truly enjoyed the girl.... David was a good character as well, but I believe I liked her a bit more..
They were very cute together....: and undeniably a perfect match.....

I was happy to see how this book ends.... and I'm absolutely going to read the next book in the series.... I think I might find Mal A little more compelling......

Highly recommend this book and all the other books in the series to all fans of love, romance, girls with some sass, and hot musicians😍
