Blair Mallory #2

Drop Dead Gorgeous

Rate this book
Blair Mallory has already survived one murder attempt. Now, while planning her wedding and dealing with holiday-season madness, Blair once again dodges a bullet. Or more precisely, a Buick. And though the driver's identity remains a mystery, his or her murderous intentions are all too clear.

Or are they? After all, Blair's homicidal ex-husband and his partner in crime/wife are safely behind bars. And even Wyatt Bloodsworth, her police detective groom-to-be, isn't inclined to believe she's being targeted again. All of which makes Blair wonder if her close call was simply a mishap. But the wondering stops when she narrowly cheats death again in another seemingly innocent accident. Two strikes is all it takes to convince Blair that she's back in someone's crosshairs. And the only thing more frightening is that Wyatt still doubts her. That means this time, no one will be watching Blair's back when she sets out to get the drop on her would-be killer—before whoever it is finally drops her.

I loved Blair and her epic lists.
I never thought I'd like this first person narrative, but LH nailed it. Blair is so damn entertaining that I even overlooked her pettiness.
Wyatt is a jackass. Blair's words, not mine.
I wish she had made him grovel more for dumping her 2 years back. High maintenance or not, she deserved a proper explanation for his attitude and hell of a lot more than the half baked apology she got. His protectiveness was endearing, but I did want to punch his smug face a couple of times!
One thing both had in common was crazy exes. Add to it some really amusing family members and colleagues, end result was incredible fun. 4 stars.

Oh Wyatt. Why did you have to have a really big jerk moment in this book??? Sadly, that one moment that left lingering hurt feelings for Blair knocked this off as a favorite. The first book was so much better. I absolutely loved the first book. I think I would have this one as well if Wyatt hadn't crossed that line in a fight they had. I think I could have gotten over it faster if he had properly apologized, but that never happened. It was almost like we got a different Wyatt in book 2 than we did in book 1. For anyone reading this, don't let this discourage you from reading book one. Book one can stand on it's own and it's fabulous!

The first rule of Fight Club is: You do not talk about Fight Club. The second rule of Fight Club is: You do not talk about Fight Club.

The first rule when authors write a sequel is: You do not divulge the evil doer. The second rule when authors write a sequel is: You do not divulge the evil doer.

Goodreads or Linda Howard! There is a bleeding spoiler to To Die For on the blurb for the sequel! Poor form especially for one who is reading, as in me, the first book. And here I thought the evil villain was her two-faced little sister.

REVIEW
List of Blair’s Indiscretions

One, it’s a good thing this chick is marrying into law enforcement as she has way too many people that want her dead.

Two, got to love her as when her house burning down around her she takes the time to grab not only her purse but her new pair of shoes, her wedding shoes.

Three, Wyatt may be gorgeous and a hunka hunka hunka burning love, but he is the worst detective ever. She’s almost run over, gets a concussion, starts getting dropped calls, but he accuses her of being paranoid when she says she's being followed?

Four, emphasize the bad detective as he fails to question who in her life besides herself could put her at risk. A six year old could figure this one out.

Five, Blair is still a feisty Southern woman who makes and plays by her own rules.

Six, Wyatt is a keeper as he puts his money where his mouth is and can take. strong woman.

Seven, one of the funniest scenes ever when he has her locked in a police car for her protection. Don't want to spoil it as it is too clever by far.

I recommend this book for the snappy dialogue, a great sense of a funny, strong if a little high strung and spoiled woman.

Dead Gorgeous- the continuation of the Blair and Wyatt show (mostly Blair Show) started in To Die For.

I am a Linda Howard fangirl all the way. I started reading her books ages ago with Heart of Fire. Back then her men were sexy, smart and strong- as were her women. Her plots were exciting- if fairly the same. Still, she had a way of making them into page turners and all night reads. I read her entire backlist and auto-bought her new releases. Sad to say, since Mr. Perfect, this has all changed for me.

DDG, like To Die For, is a big change for her in that she writes them in first person. But that isn’t what bugged me about them. The problem is, I don’t like Blair much. Oh she's smart, independent and yes funny (favorite line? And I paraphrase, "Asshole men. Hey, No need to be redundant."- wait Blair didn’t even say that! Never mind.)- I just found Blair to be too much. Her smart ass ways worked on my nerves fast and it took me a couple days to pick the book back up after I set it down.

Yet, there was parts of DDG I liked. The part that grabbed me the most was when she had her big fight with Wyatt- although, I thought his reaction over the top to her constantly calling him because she suspected foul play. (She was almost run over by someone, for crying out loud!)

However, her reaction to their fight was the first serious and real reaction from her. It felt more real than all the smarty-pants ‘tude she put out. (Hey, who hasn’t thought of ditching their man after they shot you full of holes with their careless words? THAT’S real, Man!)

Anyway, in the end, the conflict seemed a bit forced to me- you have to suspend belief that someone could have THREE people try to kill them in one lifetime to make this work- but the identity of the attempted murderer did catch me by surprise. Oh I figured out that we “met” the person early on- I just didn’t know what their true identity was until the revelation.

I’m giving this one 3 out of 5- just because I’m so pissed at LH for no longer writing the stories I used to love and adore.

Not enjoyable because I did not like the heroine.

This is 2nd book in the series with Blair Mallory and Wyatt. The 1st book is "To Die For". I rated both of these books as 1 star because I disliked the Blair character so much. She was petty, mean, insincere and snotty. Some examples of her thoughts and actions follow. Page 11, she calls off the wedding because she doesn't like what her married name will be. Page 75, she argues with her fiance, insisting that she will need to reorganize his home so she will have her own television and a place to watch it. Then she thinks to herself how rarely she watches television. "Not that he needs to know how little I watch, it’s the principle of the thing." Page 107, she insisted that her fiance arrange for flowers for the wedding but secretly went to his mother and arranged for his mother to do it. She was not going to tell him because she wanted him to stew. She planned that he could stew for two weeks. She stated "That was long enough to let him share in the stress, without actually letting him do something that would interfere with our plans. Yes, it was mean. So?" Page 128, she wanted to time her babies to months that had pretty birthstones. I will not read another Blair Mallory book.

DATA:
Sexual language: mild. Number of sex scenes: four. Setting: current day, North Carolina. Copyright: 2006. Genre: romantic suspense.

The second book in the Blair Mallory series by Linda Howard. Blair Mallory and Wyatt Bloodsworth are getting married. But there are issues on the date. It looks like everyone has something going on that prevents Blair from setting the date. Wyatt gives Blair an ultimatum of one month (30 days) or Vegas here we come! So Blair gets busy and, when leaving the mall, someone tries to run her over. Wyatt blows it off as just a road rage incident but when other incidents happen, Blair realizes someone wants her dead.

First, I want to say I feel you really need to read the first book before this one. Lots of humor and lots of drama on Blair's side. I mean, Blair really is all about the drama! LOL. It is written in the first person point of view so we only get Blair's viewpoint. I found it to be a fun read and a good addition to the series.

4.5 stars. This book was a joy to read. Totally un-PC, it is an entertaining story with a strong, opinionated, surprisingly self-aware heroine. My Favorite part? I adore how Wyatt adores Blair. I love the way he's all in and totally honest with her . He has a total Jackass-ish moment in this book that made my heart drop, but it worked. Thank God. I hope Linda Howard decides to write another book in the series.

Zaten katil kendini bence hemen belli etti. Ama süreç kendini okutuyor.
Sadece aklıma takılan şu. Allah aşkına bu katiller hangi mantıkla kefaretle serbest kalıyor 😒

I just finished listening to the unabridged audio version of this book and though I haven't read a Linda Howard book in quite awhile I was quite surprised to find that her writing has changed so much. This book was a contemporary quasi-mystery with a whole bunch of hot sex between the empty headed heroine and her blinded by lust alpha cop fiance. Apparently there was a book about these two that came before this one but as the synopsis reads like an exact copy of this book I'm sure not going out of my way to search it out.

Blaire is a beautiful ex-cheerleader who owns a health club called "hot bods" (groan) but never seems to do any work there and is engaged to alpha policeman Wyatt. When someone tries to run Blaire down, starts making harassing calls and burns down her house Wyatt still thinks she's crying wolf and brushes off her concerns. I guess she was such a ditz in the earlier book that he has reasons for this? I don't know but it sure made him look like a dummy. What I do know is that she was so self-centered and egotistical that I wasn't sad at any point when these horrible things kept happening to her. She just gleefully went on a shopping spree when her house burned to the ground and didn't seem to care that everything she owned was gone, so why should I? I'm guessing this was supposed to be a light-hearted mystery similar to the Stephanie Plum books but Blaire was too much of a bubble head and her silly rants were just annoying. She needed to get married NOW because her biological clock is tick-tick-ticking and there's no way she's getting amniocentesis, they might poke the baby in the eye! What a total airhead. This stuff is supposed to be funny?

Though the reader was continually told how "alpha" Wyatt was supposed to be he must have gotten neutered somewhere along the line because he was quite tame. The big problem here was the first person writing from the point of view of Blaire. We don't get to know any of the characters and Blaire's head is so empty that most of the book is hard to take.

As for the mystery? There are virtually no suspects besides the idea that some woman must be crazed with jealousy because Blaire is so perfect, so beautiful, so rich. When the attempted killer is revealed it is lame and predictable and fits in perfectly with the rest of the book.

Loved it!

..... (even more than 'To Die For')!

Okay, seriously Ms. Howard - you CAN'T let the tale of Blair Mallory-Bloodsworth end here... I just know Wyatt and Blair have a zany life together and I needwant to know about it!

Not to mention her awesome sisters... they totally need some love in their lives and I'd love to read about Sianna exploits ball-bustin' a bad ass and Jenna finding herself and road to self-redemption. Pretty please?

I hate giving this author one star, but this was just too disappointing.
The first book introducing these characters, isn't one of her best but it was entertaining.
Blaire is a smart ex-cheerleader who runs her own business and makes no apologies for who she is and how she rolls.
But H is incapable of giving her the reassurance she needs.
In the first book, he never says boo about why he wants her now when he didn't a couple years ago, when he dropped her (aka ghosted her) because he felt she was too 'high maintenance'.
This book just pushes that envelope. I felt like the whole 'high maintenance' BS was a way to say that the H was a controlling person, but the h being a controlling person was not acceptable. No she's not an in charge of her life person... she's just a 'high maintenance' girl. (grrrrr). And the author does acknowledge this contrariness, but doesn't resolve it satisfactorily. Mind you, Blaire's character was even more annoying in this book than the first one.

Here we have yet another person trying to kill Blaire. And we also have the H yet again, telling she imagined it her 'high maintenance' head. He does apologize for that but it wasn't convincing for me.
At one point he has her locked in a cop car so that she's like a sitting duck when the villain shows up. She is furious in the book when this happens, and it was like it was supposed to be some running joke, but it just annoyed the crap outta me, how unempowered she was in this one.
The mystery was disappointing too. I guessed roughly who it was but of course not exactly because the character was not introduced to the reader til their evilness was exposed in the last chapter.

Safety is technically fine...

Orijinali Kitap Esintisi adresinde.

(spoiler oldu biraz sanki)

Ugh, how I adore this couple!

In this book, unusually, Howard grants us a sequel. A darn sequel! Haha we all know that most of the time, the 2nd book of the series is a like, a new story with new characters, right? Nope, not this time. :)

Blair and Wyatt's ready to get married. But, again, Blair becomes a target of a murderer. Can Wyatt protect her? Or will their wedding is cancelled?

Both Blair and Wyatt are darn stubborn and made me want to throw this book across the room. But at the same time, they're adorable as hell. Amazing, amazing romance with suspense twist that not too much yet enough to make readers' heart race. Great job!

Can't wait to read more from Linda Howard!

Book #2 in Blair Mallory Series
Romantic Suspense / Contemporary Romance
Publication date : November 28, 2006

I really enjoyed first book in this series To Die For and second book was no less good. I was pleased to see that Blair and Wyatt hadn't lost their confident and lively ways, and the pacing of the book was fast and hilarious. The chemistry between Blair & Whyatt was hot and intense!

Blair Mallory has just lost some footing in the jostling for the upper hand in her upcoming marriage to the Police Lieutenant Wyatt Bloodsworth. He gives her a drop-dead date of one month to plan their wedding or off they go to Vegas. While shopping for her wedding things, Blair is nearly run down in the mall parking lot by driver. She's furious that no one seems to notice her lying there on the ground. Bleeding and hurt. Was that really an accident? Or did someone attempted to murder her? Again.

*Buddy read with Blacky <3<3<3*

The story pics up more or less where To Die For ended. Blair and Wyatt are getting married. When Wyatt realizes that the schedules of different members of their families are getting in the way of a rapidly organized wedding he gives Blair a 30 days dead line to get it done or else, he'll take her to Vegas.

Given her mile wide competitive strike, Blair doesn't waste time putting her wedding together and things seem to go along just fine until somebody tries to kill her (again).

If you enjoyed the first book, you'll most probably enjoy this one. Blair is still hilarious, sometimes outrageous, and everything she is in the first book. Wyatt is still the same, with a particular jerkish moment, but he can make amends so we forgive him. And, like in the previous book, I laughed out loud so many time.

3 stars, max, but don't push it. Yeah, there are some good scenes. It's Howard, isn't it? That lady can write. We get vivid action (cars careening, guns blazing, fireballs flaming, etc), funny moments (sticky notes, PDS) and lots of sexy times (amazing Tantric sex scene in chapter 24!!) but oy vey...This book gave me a headache. I had a love-hate relationship with Wyatt, and Blair's constant drama just wore me out. I liked her alright -- just wouldn't want to live with her.

Plot: Wyatt stepped out of character several times, to leave Blair in danger. Contrived!

I liked the prequel better. Funnier. See To Die For.

Ama benim bu kitaptan sogumama sebep olan Wyatt tarafindan dile getirilen;
“soyadimi almazsan hayvanlar aleminde oldugu gibi senin ustune iseyip isaretlerim” lafi oldu.
Bunu romantik mi bulmaliydim?

Drop Dead Gorgeous
4.5 Stars

When her fiancé gives Blair Mallory a deadline for their wedding, she finds herself immersed in dresses, cakes, flowers and seating plans. However, an almost hit-and-run in a mall parking lot together with crank calls and a strange car convince Blair that she is being targeted once again. Wyatt, however, is skeptical. Who has it in for her now and can she convince Wyatt before it is too late?

An entertaining sequel with all of the humor, charm and sexy times that characterized the first book.

The mystery this time around is predictable and it is possible to guess the culprit right out of the gate. Nevertheless, the build up of the stalker plot toward the inevitable showdown is intense and exciting.

As in the previous book, Blair and Wyatt's romance is incredible. Their chemistry certainly hasn't waned one little bit, and they have some smokin' hot scenes together. Blair is as snarky and cute as before, but Wyatt has one or two questionable moments that almost had him joining the Anti-Hottie Harem. Thankfully, he comes through in the end and retains his Hottie status!

In sum, the Blair Mallory series is light, fun and sexy. Recommended for lovers of Linda Howard as well as those new to her books.

I enjoyed this second book in the Blair Mallory series. She's back at it again. That endless banter that goes on in her mind, justifying her reasoning for her thinking, is so funny. Wyatt was his moody, sex crazed self and borderline mean to Blair, which I found somewhat disturbing. Okay she's a nut-case, but he knew what he was getting into with her. They both grew on me, I really loved the series and I wish it would continue. I could go for some more of the Bloodsworths!

5/5⭐

Me encantó!!!

I absolutely love these characters!
Book 1 in the series was really the best, but I liked this one also. Blair is just adorably different than the normal character. She often seems ditzy, but is really just finding a way to do things in her quirky way. Wyatt is sometimes wonderful to her and sometimes not, which was the only thing that annoyed me. The two find a way to work through their unique relationship. The mystery was nothing to suspenseful but more likely to happen to this couple than some deep psychological situation.
3.75 stars. (My favorite part was the notes Blair puts on the squad car window)... love her lists!!!

I have to admit I was really doubtful at first that I would like Blair. Because she seemed like a drama queen & I always stay away from heroines like that because of past experiences with that type of characters. I picked up the first book after putting it down for 2 times, because I love Linda Howard's books and I had faith on her writing :D. Guess What! She didn't fail me :D :D :D

I just loved this series. Can's say enough about how much I loved "Blair Mallory" character. Yes she is a drama queen, but her drama is full of diva attitude, lots of sense of humor, and for some weird reason I actually found logic behind all her reasoning! I don't know about her being shallow or mean, because I felt beneath all this attitude she is a soft-hearted person. Yes she is beautiful but she is as insecure as any other regular person. She has her own faults but I loved her more for it. I felt she is someone who wants to be loved, sometimes she is hurt because she felt someone doesn't love her because she is too much trouble and her character flaws are way too big. I mean in my understanding those are very human feelings, & I felt I can relate to that. She acted like a smart ass diva (if it makes sense to you), not some fluffy blond prone to drama (no matter what Waytt says -_-) and desperate to be the center of attention, like that heroine of one popular novel I read a long time ago that I absolutely hated! (isn't mentioning the name to avoid hurting feelings of the fans of that book). Though I have to admit I didn't take all her attitude and drama too seriously, because sometimes she is damn serious, and sometimes she is just having a hissy fit that provided a whole lot of entertainment to me. I mean why read a humor oriented novel if you are going to take everything too seriously and judge the characters. But again, something that works for me, might not work for someone else, and vise versa.

Most of the time, whenever there is a drool worthy hero portrayed in a book, he usually takes a lot of my focus & attention. But here all I wanted to read more of Blair. Her POV is just hilarious and too much fun. Don't get me wrong. You'd definitely like Waytt if you go for macho-alpha-possessive type of heroes. And he is well suited for Blair to handle all her attitudes, she really is a hand-full. They are now my all time favorite couple. But most of all I LOVE Blair & I want MORE of her. :D

Fun!
I know some readers didn't like Blair. She's difficult, impossible, high maintenance, etc. but i enjoyed her narration. like the first book, Blair is being stalked by an unknown person who seems to want to kill her. And this time, her fiance Wyatt doesn't believe her!
I liked the chemistry between the two of them, especially towards the end when he snaps at her. i got it. i was sad for her. and then the apology.... well they're a fun couple and all the things that people didn't like about Blair, I didn't mind. I liked how she thought, her tangents, her thought process. sometimes, my thought process goes off that way and suddenly I'm somewhere else... oh never mind.
And this is what makes Blair different, for better or worse. Even if you don't like her, you can't debate she isn't a strong voice, distinctive.
And that made this book entertaining.
