I've had the reformulation for years, loved it, wore it, etc. I stumbled upon a tiny glass dabber bottle in an antique store for $4.95 and it's got to be vintage of some sort; this thing is potent! I'm floored, it's dirty in the absolute best skanky way from the civet and leather, but also fluffy clean from the aldehydes and sandalwood; the most beguiling perfume I've ever had the pleasure of encountering. I'm so smitten; the vintage formula is an absolute love.

jesuscerda1114

So I bought a new version of this the glass is clear and it's a whisper of what it once was. I bought the vintage version both parfum and by far the vintage is great Sexy spicy provocative powerhouse. The new version is light fresher and definitely not the great perfume it once was. So if you buy this vintage all the way! Quality has gone down in everything nowadays in 2024 the stuff from the early 2000s and under are the best

rusian88

My grandmother used to have a vintage one in her dress table drawer. She hardly used it since her preference of perfume was more of a clean and soapy type, but she kept this perfume since it was a present from her hometown best friend who was passed away suddenly (I was told that this perfume was her friend's regular perfumes and I believe she wanted to keep the perfume to have a fond memory of her deceased friend).

As many people have mentioned below, the difference between the vintage bottle and the current reformulation one is significant.

Vintage: Very, very animalic; the oakmoss, incense and the civet are extremely prominent in the vintage one and definitely it is very unisex according to the general standards. Unfortunately, I can't really detect floral notes much since it's really overshadowed by animalic notes. Some people say it smells like a sweat or badly burnt cheap cigar, which I think it makes sense, but at least on me, it's not really shown as that extremely bad perfume.

Current/reformulation: More woody, with a strong Jasmin note that is pretty indolic type; I find current version is more wearable, since the vintage one was a little too aggressive, but still the reformulation one manages to have that animalic quality due to an indolic Jasmin. It's definitely a way less unisex, but I still can see that this can be worn by guys.

I personally don't dare to use it for my own usage, but I'm happy to keep both bottle in my collection. :)

XOXO_marcel

Rich, grassy, and woodsy. It is a very natural scent and smells like being outdoors on a crisp Autumn day. It is inoffensive in passing, but prolonged exposure could be a little cloying for some. I like it a lot! I would buy it, but it's too strong for my asthmatic family members. It is definitely an opulent fragrance, but I'm surprised by how "normal" it is despite its heftiness.

baccaratdreams

Smells like an extremly sweet, dark, slightly animalic jasmine scented room spray. sillage is beastly for its price, but on my skin it quickly becomes a skin scent ( or i am noseblind to it because it’s so addictive that i need to smell it every 10 seconds lol).
8,3/10 :)

hblakes70

The snobs need to relaxxxxx. This is a fun cheapie! Try reform isn’t as good but it’s a fun cheapie a way to go back and explore the 80s when people name perfumes that lasted and projected !! It’s a naughty perfume for a naughty night have fun with it!! I’m getting soo bored of the clean girl thing and orange blossom thing ehhh

Treintje82!

Meh waste of money , is it disgusting? No but it smells exactly the same as a cheap dupe from opium i once bought ( opyah from chat d’or)
So if tou want to save money buy opyah

The odd day I'll enjoy this one but rare. Found a mini of this, would I go out & buy no.

RubyJones

As another reviewer has remarked, the current formulation is a huge disappointment if you loved Passion in the 1990s. The bottle I bought this year dries down overwhelmingly powdery and white floral heavy; the beautiful incense notes disappear entirely.

I received a small bottle as gift when I purchased another perfume and wow I have to say that even though it's not the kind of scent I'd normally wear it has an awesome lasting power on body and clothes, I recall I sprayed it on a teddy bear when I got it and the smell stayed on for days lol 🤭

I get incense, leather notes, smells elegant and I think it fits more a mature woman unless you take the risk and layer it with another scent.

Nice vintage perfume.

Absolutely a unisex scent in 2024. Great value, outstanding performance and a wonderful mix of accords that can be enjoyed by anybody. I particularly love the animalic and woody notes, perfectly balanced by florals. A perfume worthy of the late great Ms Taylor

Just bought the current formulation of this at a discounter store. I wore this in the 90's and LOVED it. Do I love it now? No, but keeping it for the nostalgia. I'm sure it smells different between the vintage and current formulations, but there's enough of a similarity that I recognize it. This is something I will wear at home when I'm in the mood, but won't wear it out. It's not a mass appealing scent in current times. It's brash and unapologetic. Oh, how I miss the days when I loved wearing perfumes like this!

amg7613

It’s giving “Honey, will you hold Mommy’s cigarette while she helps you put on your coat” vibes. Mommy really wanted to be the next Stevie Nicks, but got wrapped up in a bad relationship instead. She’s full of empty promises. A cashier at a truck stop. Maybe things will turn around, but til then there’s this sultry, animalic aldehydic bomb to hide behind.

Edit - Oddly enough, something about this has just grown on me!

konga5

MEN reading this : forget the "Passion for Men" and GO for this one ! It's brutal enough for a "dude" or a "bro". If you can score a vintage bottle for CHEAP - dude ; GO FOR IT. Vintage early bottles have that little diamond shaped part of the bottle PAINTED IN light blue or lavender or gold.

cats_eye

I really love the vintage version of this! I swear I could smell some kind of fruit amongst the floralcy. Peach perhaps? There's a hint of coconut that remains in the base amidst the woods, musks and resins. This has the same musks as Obsession. Powdery musks.

nfox

How strange. Passion changes every time I wear it. Sometimes, when sprayed with a heavy hand, it's something from another world, and not something I want to smell like, not classic but "retro", not something I like.
Other times, when sprayed softly in the air with the super nice atomizer, it is a spicy, powdery hug, something an enchantress would wear. A base layer for anything to add on top, the scent of magic and mysteries. Powdery incense, plum.

Maybe it is a perfume that needs a skillful hand to apply, and a mind that can figure out the intricacies of the seasons and the hours. I am now wearing it at the roaring fireplace in a dark winter night, a night of a taxing, tiresome day, and it is cozy, clean, uplifting. Who would have thought. The thing that comes to my mind is the scent of loved and well cared for clothes. Of a lady who keeps scented sachets between her blouses, and always looks impeccable.
I sprayed only one spray in the air, and moved my hand through the scent cloud.

I just bought this for the first time. I have it on today. I bought this because its very well priced and been around for years. I love strong heady spicy woody earthy perfumes. Either really sweet spicy orientals or powdery scents (clinique aromatics elixir has a similar offensive bitter flower opening notes but dries down into a heavenly soapy smell) l can smell such a similarity in clinique aromatics and this. l love em both and now see they have pretty much the same ingredients, thats why l took to this perfume, it was like coming home to a pair of well worn slippers that are familiar and comfortable. Im not a fan of fruity bubblegum scents or just floral scents although l love gardenia and lillies but l feel fruity bubblegum scents belong on 20 year olds not a woman nearing 50 like myself. I like the ingredients to this as they are in most of my other perfumes and reviews say good things about it. Sooo the first impressions: Omg it had a strong way too much lavender smell which isn't in this l guess it must have been the bitter bergamot (which l cant stand but it seems to be in almost everything,) coriander gardenia and lilly of the valley and ylang-ylang fighting for first place and l didnt love it, but should have. l thought oh no this was a mistake, but then the dry down happens and I'm vibing with it, it's turning sweeter and more powdery with the vanilla notes pushing through now as the flowers take a backseat. I'm getting that powdery soapy smell l crave for now. It is indeed a beast but a very nice perfume. I agree not for someone below l would say 35 or maybe a bit older and definitely not for someone new to fragrances it would horrify them. But I really like it. It now has the creamy soapy flowery clean but expensive smell you would imagine a socialite woman dressed in dior or chanel in a silk shirt with gorgeous jewelry perfectly groomed with long red nails and a mink coat who looks immaculate and insanely expensive would smell. I'm imagining Elizabeth Tailor in her 40s smelled of this.
I think people are going to compliment me on this one when l wear it. Luckily no one will also be wearing it, as everyone around me always rushes to the latest YSL dior or gucci on the market so it will be unique to me. I don't adhere to times or places or seasons l should wear a perfume, I'm confident and wear whatever my mood desires, the stronger the better, office friendly doesn't exist in my world. I know my scents are gorgeous, strong, and have major personality so enjoy London. 😆 I'll wear it to work, shopping, out at night, l like to introduce people to different perfumes they have never worn, or thought they could wear, and people always ask me what im wearing. I give this perfume a 7.5/10. I wish l could smell the coconut in it though.

VanillaaManiaa

I prefer Rumba, poison and youth dew to this. This is dusty leather, vintage femme fatale like, I can even imagine a man wearing this. LOVE the scent from the nozzle but on my skins this pulls sour. Decluttering as we speak

neptune_moon666

I love this perfume!! I bought this for christmas for my grandma and she loved it so I decided to buy myself a bottle. I am 29 years old born in 1994 but I love vintage everything especially perfumes from the 80s, 90s and early 2000's. At first smell this reminds me of coco chanel, the fragrance from 1985. It is very strong, unique and amazing, a tiny bit masculine but very beautiful smelling, it has a projection and personality. Very different from modern fragrances and its a bit magical. It does increase my confidence when I wear it and puts me in a good mood. Its awesome for the price point i absolutely love this one!! :) Think this is my new signature fragrance.

Rating: 🧐🤢
Do I like it: Meh
Who it is: 1950s Parisian actress on a tight budget
Smells I get: civet, sandalwood, burnt rubber accord
Meyer's Briggs type: ENTJ, ESFP

I love the civet and sandalwood in here, it made my eyes roll back ... however, something icky, but slightly sweet - and sadly, I believe it's the honey note - makes this hard to wear for me. 🍯 🩹

It's basically a glorified Paloma Picasso by Paloma Picasso with a rubber accord. I got a vintage 5ml, so I'm glad that curiosity didn't kill me financially, but frankly i don't know where I'd wear this to.

evavidal62

This is an amazing fragrance. It's too bad that it's reduced to drugstore cheapie. You can literally find this one in Walmart, Walgreens, Burlington Coat Factory, Target, and CVS. But it is luxurious and so it's a steal. This was the first major celebrity fragrance in the world. Elizabeth Taylor launched her line starting with this perfume. Passion opens with aldehydes but they give off the impression of smoke and incense more than soap; although I can detect a unisex kind of soap vibe. There's so much going on with all these notes that you have to really put your nose to work. It's a bomb. One spray is enough for this one. Smells great in the air and on one's wrist or neck. The aldehydes begin to fade and I feel like I'm being enveloped in purple smoke. It's smoky and dark. Mysterious. Magic. Witchy. Gothic. There's spices and woodsy notes and very little florals. I immediately detected sandalwood and cedar. There's also plenty of nondescript spices including even vanilla but not a sweet vanilla, a dark rich earthy vanilla. There's maybe some slight green notes like artemisia oak moss and patchouli but this is not green. It's purple. The very weak florals I can detect are night blooming jasmine (similar to Alien by Mugler with musk) heliotrope, maybe iris, lily of the valley, gardenia. Just enough flowers to make them a lil sweet. The other florals are just way in the back and allowing the Oriental notes to dominate. Honey note is listed on Fragrantica and coconut but where are they? This is not even the least bit gourmand. The dry down is musky. It's leather musk. Warm and at times powdery. This is an exotic perfume. Makes you feel like it was formulated by Middle Eastern perfumers. This is fantastic. The sillage is the best ever and can be smelled for miles. The longevity is two days. The scent is so powerful. I am actually unable to wear this except very rarely in winter to like a fancy dinner party. This is a grown up mature fall season or winter season warm spicy woodsy smoky scent to wear with coats and fancy dresses. It's asking for it to be worn with furs. Faux fur. Classy and commanding attention. This is no shy little fruity gourmand or soft floral. It's for a confident and strong woman. It is indeed very Elizabeth Taylor. It's also unisex and can be worn by a confident male. I don't recommend Passion as a blind buy. This is vintage and powerful so you have to have some experience wearing vintage perfumes that are bombs i.e. Teatro alla Scala by Krizia, Dana Tabu, Opium by Yves Saint Laurent, Ciara by Revlon, etc. The one vintage frag it most likely resembles is Magie Noir by Lancome. Smells like something Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty would wear. It's very dated and today it would stand out among all the weak lil sissy perfumes out there in the market but it will make you more interesting a person if they smell it on you. I am absolutely floored. I will wear this to some big important date with dark and or purple make up - bold red lipstick, purplish eye make up. So beautiful.

Passion for the sheets…. Literally

Incense, spices, potpourri, balsamic, resinous, waxy, deep, gothic, elegant, vampy, sweet, mature

This is a lovely fragrance and I can see how this would have worked so well in the late 80s would love to try an original vintage sample, love the top and bottom notes, middle notes get lost for me. from the opening I definitely get the aldehyde the spices, coriander, gardenia blended well with bergamot, the middle is where things can get a little muddled and overwhelming I get a floral banquet with rose and patchouli dominating, the dry down is lovely with the animalics civet, musks and woods but slightly synthetic which is a shame, overall it’s deep, sweet, warm, rich, sensual and bewildering, gives me a chic vampire touch with elegance, if I were to describe this scent this gives me the feeling of walking in the woods at night, finding an old gothic chateau, entering the chateau to follow a sweet incense trail that leads to a bedroom with dark purple silk sheets filled with lit candles, and dried flowers and spices in the air, seeing a tall handsome man’s reflection in a smoky mirror, standing with his back turned in velvet purple cape, as I get frightened to run off, it’s too late because the man is a vampire seduces and draws me in
This is the imagination I get from smelling this. To each its own.

I’ve heard of this being similar to Poison but you can’t compare, they are completely different, only thing similar is that they from the 80s have depth and sweetness, also very unisex can see men wearing this.

Lasts all day 8 hrs + with great silage, dry down is warm resinous and musk however the synthetic notes are pretty prominent throughout. Unfortunately didn’t work well with my body chemistry on skin but I use this on my bed sheets and it is magical,

Fragaddict123

Not sure what to say about this fragrance
Definitely old school supposedly targeted for women but I can’t imagine women wearing it
It’s mostly for men and there is no powderiness or any feminine facets that I can smell it’s purely masculine
Seems a little bit flat to be honest
I didn’t feel like it was special or exceptional in any way
I feel that when your nose gets used to higher quality fragrances especially that are made of the purest quality compared to these old school scents they don’t seem that impressive
For example comparing Davidoff zino to Guerlains heritage although they are very similar in concept but the quality in heritage is exponentially better
It was a good scent but I’m not sure if I will wear it again

supersaiyan

Beautiful. Passion is what I imagined Amouage Memoir W to smell like (and the two are not too similar at all, though Dior Poison is the connection between them, and I can smell the resemblance in all three).

Mysterious, gothic, sexy, confident, wonderfully vintage with that signature touch of animalic you find in scents like Dana’s Tabu (which I like just fine) and Revlon's Ciara (which I don't like particularly much). I prefer Passion the most due to the more herbal, woody touches compared to Ciara and Tabu. I might pop for a bottle once I finish my mini.

Raven NessRavenous

I smelled a Passion tester numerous times at a ghetto CVS drugstore I used to buy all my makeup, perfume, toiletries for massive discounts. It shut down. Several times I considered buying poison. But it is on the opposite end of my typical tastes which tend toward light aquatic or Lilly of the valley soliflore type fragrances. Passion has that vintage vibe that could work for a witchy bohemian styled type that wears black gauze peasant blouses and dresses with real leather boots and when it is cold she wears a fitted black velvet Victorian blazer. Or Passion could potentially work on a goth aesthetic. It would work with a lot of leather possibly could even be unisex on an artsy, dark poetic guy. I had my eye on purchasing the Passion dusting powder as I thought it would be less bold but I could make it work in the colder winter months with a black fitted turtleneck and a black beret. But I know the truth about myself; I like these mysterious purple woody scents only hypothetically and I put on my black turtleneck and I know exactly what I will do: wuss out, fear having to sweat as I know I will inevitably have to clean up messes, lift heavy objects and resort to my safe soliflore or Rain Terra nova oil. Passion requires a brave spirit and very cold weather. I am not brave with my scent and I live in the south and have outgrown fashion countercultures. Now if I were 20 and giving a psychedelic folk concert, Passion it would be.

Mystères du Château de Dé

Best part is the unique drydown which lasts a long time on skin and forever on clothes. It's a gauzy unisex oriental skin scent and is just a slight bit humanly carnal. For a strong scent the entire affair seems human centered and personally experienced. You wear it, your body emanates it, you are in control.

vampyrically

I'm confused by this perfume. It was a blind buy for me as I like exploring long lasting perfumes. On my skin, it smells deep, complex, elegant, and overall very pleasant and on par with my tastes. But on clothes it smells like plastic. Very sickly. It's really strange. As long as I keep it sprayed on my skin I'm happy with it.

Irina_Spalko

This was on my "Perfumes I Had" list due to a vague memory of the bottle and scent, and remembering that I liked it. Seeing a drug store deal on it today, decided to pick it up. After spending the last couple of years experimenting only with niche, discontined, and indie perfumes.....I'm CRYING......this has been here right in front of my face the whole time?? It excites my need for something sweet and fruity, even without the acidity of my other favorites in that genre. Some reviewers have described it as being a cozy sweater type scent - I get that. Although it doesn't smell like grapes or wine, it smells the way concord grape jelly tastes...... purpley, sweet, gingery, and a little bit powdery. The color purple, as a smell. I notice the actual liquid is purple as well. I definately remember having this one and it's bringing me back to the late 1990's when Vanilla Fields, Sun Moon and Stars, and Malibu Musk were sitting around on my dresser. If I remember Sun Moon and Stars correctly, Passion does have a similar vibe. I can't believe this forgotten (by me) gem has been avoided for so long. I feel like a struggle has ended, the vague memory I had of Passion is satisfied, my subconcious search for "more perfume" can finally rest.

Revisiting this fragrance, it makes me think of leather jackets, leather seats in cars, this perfume is for that sort of mindset, a woman or man who is well kept, cool, who wears a leather jacket and drives a nice black car, wears black sunglasses, and yes comes home for passionate sex and then cuddles his or her cat afterward. A very luxurious leather scent, for a free spirited person like James dean in a leather jacket and driving a sports car. There are fresh flowers and incense in his home, and a cat to cuddle. Very unique...

nikkiszabs

Ok so I just picked this up today and sprayed it on my arm. It's not really my fragrance preference on it's own, but...BUT....I tried layering it with my favorite Mercedes Benz Club Black and WOW, perfect fall/winter spicy sexiness!

D0LLFACE

It’s the dry down for me. The first sprays are shockingly not my taste at all. But I wait for the dry down because the drydown is magical. Great on a chilly fall night or day, or a cold rainy one. Cold weather in general will make this feel so rich and comforting. Like I said, it’s the dry down that will comfort you like an expensive blanket. I spray this with Love and White Diamonds to add some green and bubbly lightness to those first heavy Passion sprays. I have the vintage with the purple gemstone top and also a mini of the parfum. A real experience from the one and only Elizabeth Taylor.

Gina_k

This is one of the most sensual, dark, seductive, bold and vintage smelling perfumes I have ever experienced! I much prefer it to Poison by Dior! To me it smells somewhat nostalgic and mysterious, like I moved back in time. It's just so different to anything in my collection and I have couple of other vintage perfumes as well. This is something I would wear for a night out in the winter time to a wine bar or when I have chilled evening at home with candles or at the fireplace. The smell of it on my skin is intoxicating and personally I love the aroma and the whiffs of it around. It's something I would wear on special occasions only or just for myself 😊

Inktya

I find that if you combine a vintage passion with a newly made one you get a wonderful perfume with vintage feeling. Absolutely gorgeous, great projection and longevity.

I bought a vintage one (74ml unused) first, out of curiosity and found out after arrival that my vintage, has oxidized and darkened, but middle and base notes is gorgeous, so I bought a newly produced one. My newly purchased one is nice, but nothing more, it lacks depth, spicyness, and warmth. To me my new one is a bit more make-up/lipstick scent, not as nice, more bland, not as spicy, warm and inviting as the vintage one so I layered them and wow.
I got a stunning, sexy, warm, inviting, smooth dark perfume. Perfect for a self-comfort day under a blanket or in an elegant dress with heels. The lipstick scent disappears when combined and the perfume get a bigger body with much more depths.

Together they are a keeper. One by one-not so much.

Vintage one was expensive but newly made one was cheap so together the price was ok. I got them both for under 100€

LadyT33

This week I purchased the vintage version of Passion online. I got a small spray bottle and an adorable tiny dabber bottle. I tested it and it is heavy on the incense and spice, which I like. I think I’m going to love the dry down. It’s still warm out, so I’ll have to try it out in the cold weather. Not about to wear this perfume out now. This fragrance gives me rich, luxe, purple velvety vibes. I don’t think it smells like Poison, although I haven’t smelled it in decades. I could never bring myself to buy Poison. My best friend wore it in high school and I remember people being repulsed when she wore it. lol I might have to buy a small vintage bottle just for nostalgia purposes. I think I’m really going to like Passion. It’s a keeper!!

1988 Vintage Amber-Chypre/Amber-Spicy Scent with Purple Passion Vibes...
This vintage beauty walks the line between being a variety of different styles, especially amber-spicy and chypre-floral scents. At the end of the day though, a few hours in it settles out into a vintage-y amber, and you will catch reminders of several different vintage ambers (Bal à Versailles Jean Despez, Ciara Revoln, Tabu Dana) although the coriander stands out with a lovely spiciness. The mood & tone of this scent matches the film Purple Rain (1984), and although the film was released 4 years earlier, I could imagine Prince or Apollonia Kotero wearing this for a purple passion vibe.

Opens with a burst of aldehydes, coriander & gardenia accented by artemisia, but already the spicy incense & civet notes are swelling through. Coriander stands out nicely here in the opening. For me, civet here isn't as forward as the notes would suggest, either that or it's well disguised with spice. I find the civet here less forward than Bal à Versailles Jean Desprez & Paloma Picasso Paloma Picasso. The overall effect here is spicy dark purple vintage amber. As it transitions to the heart, it gets sweeter, with honey & tuberose notes emerging, while oakmoss & patchouli are swelling through tilting this to nearly a chypre. The longer it's on the skin, the more it takes on a creamy sweetness from tuberose, sandalwood & coconut. This is unsigned, but it's not a dupe of anything, although I would put it firmly in the category of vintage ambers/chypres that includes Bal à Versailleds Jean Desprez, Paloma Picasso Paloma Picasso, Poison Dior, Youth Dew Estee Lauder & Diva Emanuel Ungaro. This has excellent performance for year round wear, but the dark purple and spicy amber profile is most appropriate in cooler weather.

Contrast to Purple Patchouli Tom Ford:
These are different, but there are similarities with a dark purple vibe as well as amber, woody, patchouli, earthy & warm-spicy tones. Passion is spicier with more forward incense & civet notes, while Purple Patchouli is more balsamic. Both have excellent performance.

Overall: gorgeous vintage purple passion amber spicy scent, with excellent performance. It's a love for me. 10/10. Enjoy!

darkbeauty

I’m testing a vintage pure Parfum mini and I have to just say, the opening is very green with a bit of a grassy bite. I wasn’t expecting that. Perhaps it’s the aldehydes. Then as it develops it morphs into a sweet spicy jammy marmalade, or over ripe fruit and spice. Part of it even reminds me of a spiced fruit cake. Perfect for autumn and winter weather. Definitely a cozy sweater weather perfume. Yes, it definitely has that punch you in the face power house 80’s signature so be prepared for that. But if you can get through the sharp bite in opening, the dry down will be well worth it. 💜

amandavolpe

A fluffy cloud of plum and incense. Somewhat sweet. Must be worn only when it's cold or rainy, two spritzes at maximum. Lasts forever.

Heavenly...

swedishmilk15

I love this, it's my late-summer favorite. I recommend this to lovers of Paloma Picasso, Poison, Giorgio, Cabochard and LouLou. It's incensey, tuberosey, powdery, and oh-so-oakmossey (even in new formulations, the farnesol battens the hatches!) Spend a little more per ml and getchu the vintage, it's grapey, dreamy, gardeniatastic & so worth it!

pamelalasalle110

Passionate, Polarizing and intoxicating. Let's not discuss the cheap, tacky bottle, but the surprise that awaits inside it. Passion??? I found it under $15 so I decided what the heck. I wasn't a fan of the diamond collection growing up so never sampled this one. I was shocked that I've spent so much cash on similar perfumes and actually prefer this to many. The White flowers are beautifully represented. Woodiness, greenery, oakmossy, powdery and super feminine. Very good projection and longevity. My husband just loves it on my and I receive many compliments on it. I'm tempted after all these years to go back and take a retest of White Diamonds and her flankers.

MY37

Elegant less invasive than most of what passes for oohh la la "perfumes" mass synthesized nowadays
Pleasant mild ambery musk with tame dose of spicy florals well blended. i don't see how this can offend anyone.
Having said all that, would have liked a little more of the coconut or vanilla shine through as I don't detect them at all.

jswenson

This is a very loud perfume that lasts forever, I have a few vintage bottles and all I can say is that the smell of Passion reminds me of lavender, and purple velvet, I don't know why.
I am referring to the eau de parfum version.

bruby15

I don't know why people say this is a loud perfume, they probably never wore loud like Kenzo Jungle lol. To me this is a very powdery cross between Paloma Picasso's Paloma and Shalimar. Has a soapy vintage smell though so I am not sure I am loving it, just ordered it on a whim and got it right now...

VioletPinetree

Cheapie version of Bal a Versailles by Jean Desprez, great to combine with. Love it when it’s that time of the month, when it’s not, I don’t care for it. Body chemistry is so fascinating. Vintage, long lasting and polarizing. Good blind buy if you were curious about 1960’s style expensive perfumes. My grandma wore this so that memory helps too. Not for everyone but at $20 USD or less, an easy experiment.

This perfume has been on my mind lately. I can't seem to get my mind off this one. Yes, it made THAT MUCH of an impression. This perfume is in the same genre as the original Poison by Christian Dior, but I find this more wearable. There are a couple of notes within this that have made me push this back to the back of my fragrance drawer and not wear as often. This has a slight scent of a woman's lotion - almost like the original Jergens hand cream. It also has a note of civet which I feel dates this perfume.

This wears the best in fall/winter - it is slightly too heavy to wear in the spring/summer -- but I could see this being worn for formal events on a cool evening.

This is a perfume that adds instant power and confidence.
You can tell a lot about a perfume by how other people respond to it.
This is a likable perfume, it receives a ton of compliments - and people have a wistful look in their eyes.
This definitely has a magical quality about it.
It is beautiful on.

MrsLyons

I know many recommend it in the winter...but try it in slightly warm spring or fall weather....A stunner

I smelled this once from the bottle and it nearly knocked me unconscious.

I would love to see pictures and know the general age range of women that can pull this perfume off. It seemed outrageously loud to me.

For those who are finding this too masculine, it may be a different experience if you try a vintage bottle. My favorite is the EDT. Look for Parfums International distributor on the bottom of the bottle or the back of the box. With my vintage bottles, I get a gorgeous incensey gardenia, slightly aldehydic, jasmine civet nighttime bombshell of a fragrance with generous sillage. With the new formulation, I was getting a lot of what people often call "shaving cream" scent, and I was missing out on the gardenia and jasmine and civet. In other words, the more delicate, pretty side of the fragrance was somewhat drowned out in the newer formulation (at least for me). I love this fragrance when I'm in what I call a sweeping and self-contained, arrogant "night mood." Peace.

Hoc unguentum amo. Mater mea portabat eam.

este96

I love the smell of this, but on me It becomes such a masculine scent I feel uncomfortable wearing it. To me this smells similar to Poison, BUT IMO, this is deeper ,richer & more complex. This would be gorgeous on a man!

Unruly Julie

Dark smooth and rich. Starts out with aldehydes, incense, civet and Sandalwood....then adds sweet honey, tuberose and other florals. It's very strong and I love it!

ThatGothBBW

This is definitely not for the faint of heart. This is as vintage, rustic, and animalistic as it gets. The civet in this will stick to your nostrils with a vengeance. This is her most vintage smelling Fragrance in my honest opinion. But please spray/buy with caution. This is not youthful, girly, sweet, or fruity. It's robust and unforgiving. You have to really like Fragrances like loulou by cacharael,or midnight promise by bellagance to enjoy this. I honestly feel like this is what the bride of Frankenstein would smell like. Dark, dingy, animalistic, and not so fresh. But, the deep, deep dry down, after hours and hours is somehow nice? It's Rich, deep, dark, but a bit sweet, and somehow polarizing. It's honestly the best part of this Fragrance. But again, use with CAUTION! This is definitely too strong for any season besides winter. The last powering is insane. 12 plus hours, easy. Don't go spraying this in a close , confined space, among others. You will choke out everyone around you, Or repeal people all together.

Goofy79

I got a gift set with a lotion and a 44 ml edt that's made in China, and a 74 ml that's made in USA. The one made in China is more intense and last much longer than the American version. Weird somehow...!

I purchased Passion today since I had been reading the reviews and fate would have me happen across a $15 bottle at Burlington. I sprayed her on my wrist, and... It's my grandmother's perfume. I remember asking my aunt earlier this year what she wore since I started getting into perfumes. She wasn't sure. And now, after at least 20 years since the last time I would have smelled this on her, I immediately know it.

However, I'm not quite sure if it's for me -- there is this very "sharp, tangy" note that my untrained nose can't identify, and I'm guessing it's the civet, bring the one that is the least common among our modern scents. This is the only part of the perfume that I can't get past. But it is an almost addicting scent, you know it's not good for you, but you still can't stop. I keep sniffing my wrist to smell my grandmother who's been gone for 20 years now and just for that, I'll wear Passion occasionally and keep her gorgeous bottle displayed in my collection.

LeaLush

This is God awful. I can't imagine anyone under 85 liking this. This is straight up formaldehyde.

Fatima1219

Passion has always been in my collection! I've worn this fragrance at every stage of life. Last Wednesday, I wanted to get re-acquainted with her, so... I decided to wear her around the house as I cleaned and prepped for Thanksgiving. She smelled really nice! Not dated at all. She provided a much needed change from the gourmands and fruity-florals of today.
I had to leave my home unexpectedly--I decided to take Passion with me because she was, indeed, my scent of the day. My husband and I, both, really enjoyed her. She was musky, spicy, animalic, and crisp. Passion has great longevity and projection. She stands the test of time. This is a fragrance appropriate for all seasons, and nighttime activities.

Su do brechó

Não deu kkkkk. Desde que chegou não consegui usar. Pra mim é muito forte, muito esfumaçado. Tá servindo só de enfeite, nada a ver com os perfumes vintages que a gente ta acostumado.
Comprei no escuro e errei o pulo. Não consigo usar pois me sufoca literalmente.

PLUMPIE

In my youth I tried and despised Passion with passion. However I went through surgical menopause in my early 30s and my chemistry changed and now this and Avon Occur another coconutty animalic spicy floral smell differently and very sensual on me. Think Versace Crystal noir meets shaving cream and I love it.

Mollyred88

I have a vintage bottle and a reformulation. I’m not afraid of 80’s powerhouse perfumes, Paloma Picasso is one of my favourite scents and the dry down of Passion reminds me of Paloma. The lingering sweet musk left over at the very end of the dry down reminds me a little bit of Jovan White Musk. The reformulation is great! It is slightly different to the vintage, maybe a little more masculine than the original, less creamy but still dreamy. The opening of the reformulation is a bit scary for the first few minutes, whereas the vintage is beautiful right from the start, more of a sophisticated blend I think. I use the reformulation more often because it’s so inexpensive and easy to find. I cannot stop sniffing my wrist when I wear this, it makes me throw my head back and sigh deeply, this scent stops me in my tracks, it’s such a mesmerising, mysterious, sensual, sexy fragrance. I could definitely see this working on men as well as woman. If you can’t get your hands on a reasonably priced vintage the reformulation is still incredible and great value.

Доста силен парфюм. По-скоро мъжки

songtothesiren

My all-time favorite perfume to wear in winter. Ridiculous staying power. 80s meets Art Deco bottle. A big, gutsy fragrance.

swedishmilk15

2nd review: I have since bought lotion, powder, and pure Parfum. And Passion for Men. For you guys. For Science.

New EDT: good representation of the 80's recipe! Time hasn't hurt her much.
New Lotion: less woody, soapier. Wonderful!
New Powder: smells WEIRD, gasoline-y, woody. I LOVE IT! ALSO: it's sparkly!
Pure Parfum (vintage): fantastic. Floral animalic spicy ambery intense Chypre.
For men: also love, unisex, great pillow spray for exciting dreams.

A vintage EDP is on the way, I'll update you. For Science! (Update on the EDP--it's wonderful, as expected! Very woody and animalic, the tuberose is a bit more prominent as well. Sillage is about the same as the EDT but the staying power is much better. The EDP's come in tiny purse sizes; I wish bigger bottles were available but I'll just have to be judicious with it.)

Too heavy on aldehydes, it's all i can smell

I swear, this is what the classic Maleficent smells like. The queen of evil is also a night seductress. That's my description in a nutshell. The bottle even looks like it belongs on her vanity!

Absolutely love. I can't pick out the individual notes, except for the smokey incense. Best worn in the night time, but winter mornings are a safe bet too!

cats_eye

Best celebrity scent ever! This is soapy, incensey chypre/amber hybrid with nice musk and leather notes. I love the subtle sweetness. It's in the same family as Ysatis and Paco Rabanne A La Nuit but with an herbal soapiness that wears well in any weather. I prefer the vintage but the new formula isn't bad at all. Passion is much better than White Diamonds in my opinion. My favorite out of that line is Diamonds and Rubies.

unicorn1

Where do I even begin? I never thought I would love this perfume as much as I do but here I am. It was a blind buy after reading the rave reviews on it and now I don't know how I ever did without it! This is a powerhouse, a beast of a perfume. The first time I used it I didn't know how powerful it was and did three sprays on my neck and a couple on each arm. I could smell the scent in the bathroom and bedroom all day! lol It also lasts a long, long time on the body. I am fairly new to this fragrance world so I don't have the words to describe the notes but my nose knows what it likes. I am now going to have to buy another one as a spare just in case this ever gets discontinued and I am also now slightly obsessed with trying some of the other Elizabeth Taylor fragrances as they all seem to have very good reviews.

Katie <3

I am enjoying this as one of my winter scents. I love incense type smells, and with two sprays (chest, wrists) this is very appealing and not a heavy hitter. In the same vein as Imari and Maroussia, but I prefer this scent. You can wear loud fragrances from the 80's in a modern way if you spray less. Stick to two sprays of Passion and it's a lovely oriental scent. ❤️

swedishmilk15

This doesn't smell like the 1980's--it smells like the 1960's!! Liz Taylor in a brocade caftan, skin bronzed and ready to be bared with a neckful of diamonds on a yacht somewhere with Richard Burton (the first time she married him.)

Reviewing vintage EDT (Painted gold diamond/purple "inlay" cap.) This reminds me SO MUCH of Jovan Mink & Pearls, but add a touch of tuberose & gardenia, a dash of extra spice, and dial up the smokey incense to level 100. My boyfriend has noted the incredibly sensual aroma of Mink & Pearls, and Passion is like an amped-up version, so the name is perfect.

Extra super animalic old school musk ambrette, indistinguishable (aka subtle and well-blended) florals, warm spices like cinnamon and cumin, cool spices like cardamom & coriander, luxurious resins dripping everywhere and man oh MAN does that oakmoss just SING! I don't appreciate coconut much, unless a scent is expressly beachy, but like Cabochard, you can't smell it in the mix, so fear not if you're like me in that regard.

If you love 60's vintages, there is a very good chance you will love this, too. It has many of the qualities of the green leather chypres but with added oriental notes, like Youth Dew on steroids. I can't wait to get the pure parfum, EDP, lotion, shower gel, and dusting powder! I want to LIVE in this fragrant cloud and die in it, too! The vintage is easy to get and affordable, look for either VERY LITTLE listed in the ingredients (mine reads only "sd alcohol 40, fragrance, pg, water, benzophenone-2, blue 1, red 33, violet 3) OR look for a longer list but make sure "oakmoss extract" is included.

Hope you enjoy this as much as I do. This easily holds its own amongst my heavy hitters, DEFINITELY has the gonads of Alien, Poeme, L'heure Bleue--but has all the nuance and retro sophistication of Mink & Pearls, Cabochard, and Miss Balmain.

Happy Spraying!

LovecraftLover

Very witchy! This perfume was a such a surprise in the best way! It's like Magie Noire, Opium, and Poison rolled into one but it WORKS! I bought a small sample vintage bottle and it's held up remarkably well. It starts off with a peppery cedar note like Opium and a strong civet scent like Magie Noire. The floral notes help keep the Pepper and Civet in check, though. Poison has that plum/grape soda note that Passion tones way down with just heliotrope and honey and no fruit.

It's like Passion is Poison's older sister as Poison can be very childish, like a teenage girl found a black dress in an old trunk and is playing Goth for a day. Passion IS the witch, not just playing at it and ultimately running back to safety with the grape Koolaid note like Poison does. You can never take Poison that seriously because of that kiddie grape note that never goes away. So many perfumes go for youthfulness by packing in the candy and fruit notes, Passions goes easy. There's just a HINT of sweetness, like maybe if you get her alone and get her clothes off, you'll have an amazing time. If she doesn't kill you.

Once the cedar and civet gas off, you get heavy, smoky incense, like Poison tries to do in its dry down but never really accomplishes because the grape soda note keeps killing it. You have to really search for that sweet honey note in Passion, but it's there, lingering in the background, urging you to stick around, have another drink.

For a while I thought expensive perfumes were expensive mostly because they must have expensive, exotic ingredients, but Passion has all the same ingredients that expensive fashion houses have, yet Passion is a fraction of the price. So it must be that in the perfume world 90% of your dollar is paying for the use of the house name. Decant Passion into a bottle labelled Yves Saint Laurent or Dior or Chanel and people would fall all over themselves to throw down $200 for a bottle.

I love this so much I immediately bought 2 more vintage samples. This is a nighttime perfume and probably will knock your socks off in the fall/winter. This is definitely going to be a signature for me for a while. At this price, you might as well snag yourself a bottle, even if it's new and not vintage and give it a try if you like Poison but are always put off by that grape soda note.

Clairerose00

Ok! So this perfume smells like every old lady I’ve ever met, which isn’t a bad thing since old ladies always smell nice!

As someone who is 25 this perfume smells very old fashioned on me. I like it a lot but more because it reminds me of cozy nights with your grandma. Kinda has some similarities with cashmere mist for sure, it’s powdery and a bit spicy. Definitely incense for sure too. At the end of the day it softens up a bit to reveal a less old lady smell.

Performance as everyone else has said is BEASTLY. I’m used to perfume being pretty weak on me and I like to use a lot so when I did more than one spray I actually got a headache which has never happened before to me. It’s definitely easy to overdose on this. It will last you ALL day, even the lotion I got with my set is a super strong performer too.

I wouldn’t wear this normally but I like to wear it to bed at night to develop as I sleep. It’s really cheap so I don’t mind using it just to sleep in.

the price of this is so cheap. I found it at Burlington coat factory in a set with perfume and lotion for 14.99. Well worth it for the performance and the set I got! I wish more perfumes were this strong but that’s just me :)

Definitely a classic scent worth trying even if you don’t like. I love to experience these scents and appreciate them! Maybe it’s what your mom wore but was your mom ever wrong? Hahaha

Brightlights

Just purchased at a TJ Maxx! Reading the notes I was intrigued and excited to buy. This is a great perfume at a great value for those who like spicy notes. For me the spicy notes appear in each stage of wear so I wouldn’t claim it to be an amber perfume. It reminds me of opium tbh. For me it is the perfume that taught me I actually am not a spicy notes girl. But I can’t deny this perfume is good I actually do prefer it to poison and being I don’t like spicy notes will keep it for winter and Halloween occasions and will have fun layering it with a floral or amber to see what happens. Worth experiencing and I’m happy I bought it!

I just scored a VERY VINTAGE bottle tonight at a thrift store. I think this MAY be version 1.0 : Gold painted "diamond" in the "chest" of the bottle and the cap is sliver plastic with an inlaid bright metallic purple shaped plastic "diamond". The main difference is that I can see is , more nuances, less SCREECH . My other newer bottle is about 3 years old from Marshalls . There is a touch of chemical going on. This here old bottle is actually a bit smoother (but still quite LOUD).
$4.50 for a half full 3.4 oz. Good deal ! Look for the GOLD painted DIAMOND on the bottle and you have a REALLY old one ! Yes, this is closer to Dior Poison than I had first thought ! I guess the old version is closer to the OLD version of Poison?

chakukan

sadly having to get rid of my bottle because it has turned after so many years... Ill keep my eyes out for one of her holiday gift sets and replace all my other Elizabeth Taylor perfumes. She was such an amazing lady with incredible taste, her style is an inspiration!

luna k

The bottle is so beautiful and that's why I bought this. It seemed like some kind of crime against humanity for an art deco eggplant bottle to be sitting in a big box store when the bottle alone is probably worth more than the asking price. Forget the juice for a second and let's all take a moment to appreciate a bottle that reminds me of both the Empire State Building and Jessica Lange in a satin slip dress. Although the bottle is opaque, the liquid inside must also be purple according to my imagination.

Even if you hate the perfume, you could use it to spray on trees and fire hydrants to confuse neighborhood cats and dogs. Or for some other prank. Keep the bottle for sure, went my thoughts at said big box store. But maybe you'll like it.

I sprayed it a few times several hours ago. It's winter. The temperature is in the teens Fahrenheit. I like it but can't imagine craving it every day. It goes with cold weather, black sweaters and possibly dress up clothes that I don't wear anymore. I think some artists might like it, people who don't want to smell like the crowd. It's not subtle really but it could be if you didn't use very much.

I get the comparisons to Poison but it's not the same. It's more leathery, woody, mossy and animalic. Poison has a sweet grapey note that is either completely missing or turned way down here.

skeletoff

I read the reviews on here and was so excited when I finally found a bottle at Ross. This quickly turned to disappointment. It is so far from being 'goth' smelling that I had to doublecheck and make sure I got the right thing. People need to stop basing reviews off of the bottle design, and focus on how the perfume actually smells. This is just spicy baby powder, and not much else. Very grandmotherly, not mysterious at all.

golden

Sumptuous! Is a word I would use to describe this truly magnificent perfume.
Now I’ve never tried the old formulation from the 80s. However, this current version is very smooth, silky, and the the best part for me is the dry down.
I get the incense, coconut, oak moss, civit, sandalwood, vanilla, and musk. All just melt together, leaving a truly wonderful trail. It somehow reminds me of Fendi. Which I own the vintage. Not exact. But they both have this smoothness, in a sensual way. This is very old school vibes. In the best possible way imaginable. I’ve had my bottle for around 4/5 years. And I’m running low. I need a back up. asap! This is something I never want to be without. Lasts, 5 hours on my skin. Longer on clothes. This also wears very well during the spring season as well.

correspondencepersonal

Passion leans more towards a spicy deep cinnamon with a leather and a smokey incense quality. There is also the hint of a classic lotion type scent. The impression that I get is as if you walked in while a woman was preparing for a night out on the town, slathering lotion on her arms and legs while wearing a sexy slip before stepping into her formal or cocktail gown and zipping it up.

The image that I see is Elizabeth Taylor when she played the part of Maggie in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof". (When I make this reference, I'm not referring to anything other than this movie and role by ET). Elizabeth Taylor's Passion seems slightly more naughty, there is something about it that has a sultry sexiness... so it really does represent Elizabeth Taylor extremely well, particularly in the role as Maggie. (It has been over 20 years since I've seen this movie, I don't remember a lot of the storyline, plot, dialogue, etc... of this movie -- so this is just based on the initial impressions.

The Elizabeth Taylor Passion perfume reminds me of the photo shoots that they did for the marketing in this role with Elizabeth Taylor and the white slip she was wearing). This was one of her most daring and sexy roles, from what I remember so if she named this perfume "Passion" then she was probably thinking back to this era in her film career.

-----------

Some have compared Passion to Ysatis, but they are really both two separate fragrances - perhaps sisters, but definitely sisters with two separate personalities. The depth of the chord and notes is similar at the start, but quickly Ysatis moves more into a softer floral; Passion carries more drama. It is almost as if Passion is like Elizabeth Taylor - and Ysatis is like Veronica Lake.

Jswizzle1802

I’m sorry but this scent is pure garbage. Smells like musky smoke. Not for me. Threw it out as soon as I tried it 🤢

I always love when I see a perfume with an Artemisia note because I love absinthe, the scent of wormwood and anise. To be honest, that's why I bought this and also the fact that my Aunt has always called me "her Elizabeth Talor" because of my dark hair. I love this scent! It's incensey and strangely comforting to me. I would imagine a witch would wear this with a black velvet dress. I am not the targeted demographic for this fragrance (I'm 27) but that has never stopped me. I feel like if you have the right personality for a perfume out of your demographic you will be able to pull it off. I wear this the most before I go to bed because all the notes plus the big aldehyde makes me feel cozy. I feel like a movie star just coming out of boudoir in her fuzzy bath robe. The lasting power is just stellar for the price point too. I can still smell this on my wrist when I wake up the next morning!! The bottle is also incredibly cool as I am a sucker for art deco.

artpopmixer

I don’t know what it is about this perfume, I’m probably far too young to be rocking this but I just can’t help it. I saw the notes and thought I’d be interested in this as it has white florals, civet, leather and oak moss all of which I love and I’m a fan of big 80s powerhouses and celebrity fragrances. This obviously ticks all those boxes…
When I first smelt it the aldehydes literally knocked me out and the spices soon followed. I only had a the small tiny bottle that you dabbed onto your skin and literally one dab blew me away.
This is so ethereal and dark, it makes me thing of Anjelica Houston playing The Grand High Witch or Cher when she won her Oscar in 88. A tall, dark haired powerful woman who men literally crawl on broken glass to be In the presence of came straight to my mind.
After the aldehydes dry down it’s a warm gardenia peeking through, even though it’s drenched in all these exotic spices and earthy notes the gardenia and the tuberose still try to overcome them with their buttery creaminess. However that doesn’t last long as a Smokey veil of Incense soon seeps through and it makes me think of those little hippie shops they have in Camden market where they have incense sticks burning and you’re going inside to get away from the cold. The civet and oakmoss are beautifully blended with this Incense and it takes about 16 hours for this fragrance to reach this point on my skin.
Elizabeth Taylor knew what she was doing when she created this perfume. Fur coats, dark lipstick and glamorous events with a twisted dark side to fame, I’d love to know some of the drama that has gone on at big parties when people have wore this perfume…
For such a cheap fragrance this is an absolute classic and should be raves about more. I know it started the celebrity fragrance trend but this one really packs a punch and lasts on the skin (and in time) more that 90% of all other celebrity fragrances. Elizabeth cared about her perfumes and put an awful lot of time and money into them and it really shows.
By today’s standards this is easily Unisex. If this was poured into a Tom Ford Private Blend perfume bottle so many people my age would absolutely die over this and pay the ridiculous £250+ prices for it. Either way I’m glad I can enjoy it for £15 for a large bottle lol

Bigsly

Vintage EdT formulation: I get the Opium EdT element here but this has more notes, though I don't get any type of incense (nor sandalwood) with strength. An excellent vintage scent, and smoother and softer than most of the similar ones from that era.

amberwaves

wow this really doesn’t mess around. Immediately I’m hit with a big waft of cedar and sandalwood, thick and cloudy like I’m working with them myself in a workshop and the floor is carpeted with soft mounds of sawdust. This is a Perfume with a capital P, assertive, showy and dense. You have almost certainly smelled this or something very similar in your life, perfumes of a certain era share a lot of genes. it’s warm, dark and feminine, something you would have encountered on an older woman with big earrings and a cigarette in her hand that she holds aloft and to the side as she air kisses you and your mother in a loud affectionate greeting.

It’s deep and floral but quite dry like strong pot pourri that may have a light film of dust on its crisp, bruise coloured petals. Dark stained wood and curls of ghostly incense smoke are the backdrop for the other notes, a lush hazy parlour where the florals and spices gather to flirt with each other. the chairs are velvet, the lamps are fringed, the lights are low and the drinks are many. This is what most people would call a mature fragrance but I feel like the word classic fits better. Someone younger could definitely get away with wearing this if they did so with the right attitude.

This is seductive, regal, proud and warm. it brings to mind the qualities Elizabeth Taylor had herself, particularly the genetic mutation that blessed her with double rows of thick dark lashes around her dusky violet eyes. This is sultry and bold, woody, animalic and gives an air of mystery with its unusual vintage feel. As it warms on my skin I can just pick up the honey folded into the heart, I have to chase it but I can tell it’s there. It’s not a standing jar of fresh honey, it’s part of the whole like when baked into a cake or pastry.

Projection is very strong, this takes up space like a plum coloured cloud. Longevity Is good and the scent moves through different stages, becoming more intimate over time like when a lively party goes from a roaring flame of noise and activity into glowing embers of close conversation and lovers pairing off. The woods calm down to a lovely warmth on the skin and the remaining notes harmonise and sweeten slightly, it gets quite pretty over time.

This is definitely something you apply while in the slow luxurious process of getting dressed and made up for an event, at its most intense as you’re building up your confidence and beautifying yourself. as you leave the house you smell it on yourself and feel delicious, you put your shoulders back and hold your head up high. By the time you arrive at your destination the scent begins to seduce those around you, turning heads of people you walk past and drawing eyes and compliments to you. By the time it dries down it has people scooching closer to stay within its radius as you talk and laugh. This is the kind of scent you’ll still find in your hair, clothes or bedsheets the next morning like the memory of a campfire. And if this works with your chemistry in the way it was designed to, you may not be waking up in that bed alone.

Charlotte_Grace_29

I purchased this on a whim at a Ross discount store somewhere between LA and Santa Barbara. I had time to kill and wanted to see if this fragrance was really "as bad" as people always said. I'll admit I got a bit of a strange look from the clerk as they were ringing this up for me; I am *clearly* not the usual demographic for this scent.

I got back home and pulled out the bottle. Very cool, stylized art deco bottle with a great purple color. The plastic silver cap does look (and feel) pretty cheap, but I guess for $15 I can't be too disappointed. I sprayed it and was immediately choked out by a voluminous purple haze (and yes, I'm not sure how this fragrance smells "purple" but it surely does) of aldehydes, bergamot, and heliotrope. After coughing slightly and letting the burn recede from my nostrils, I was greeted by a very thick, sumptuous, complex, animalic fragrance that is most *definitely* vintage. To me, this smells like everything I liked about the 80's: big hair, big shoulders, loud colors, bold styles.

This fragrance is no shrinking violet; this scent is she-hulk coming to bludgeon you to death with a truncheon of cedar wood concealed inside a bouquet of tuberose and jasmine. The civet comes by later to finish you off if the cedar didn't do the job the first time. Sillage is monstrous, longevity could be better, but I'm guessing that has to do with the quality of ingredients used. If I ever have found a true "beast mode" fragrance for women, I think this one is it. I'm a fan.

Jhanemarie

My experience with this perfume is of warm spices, lovely woods, incense, powdery honeyed notes, and a very easy to get along with patchouli. The flowers are just right - they enhance and deepen but don’t jump out on their own or interfere with the overall effect. The result is pretty, alluring, responsive to your chemistry, sexy, and holds your attention —things that stir up passion. Nothing icy, aloof, overpowering or assertive in the least to me. I don’t think it’s for any certain age group - it’s more about whether it suits your chemistry. I have come to this perfume only recently and it’s truly such a wonderful surprise. It’s a high quality blend, easily seems like a much more expensive product, but I wish it lasted longer than 4-5 hours. I love it!

LSAUG

This perfume is Elizabeth Taylor as Cleopatra, this perfume brings out the inner dark Queen. This is cold and distant. This is a perfume of a man eater, a seductress who seduces everyone in her path get's, what she wants and when those people aren't useful to her she kicks them to the curb. Icy, cold, aloof, but also beautiful and haunting. The woman who wears this captivates w/ only a look, that is all she needs, her eyes, her scent will tell you everything and then nothing at all. She will remain a mystery, forever unknowable but she is the ultimate survivor. Very vintage... powdery, animalic, floral, woody, so if you don't like vintage perfumes stay away from this one. Also I don't think this perfume is IFRA compliant, one spray is all you need w/ this one. I would wear this when I want to be my most bold and even cruel self. This is a perfume that would give one confidence if you are ever in a situation where it is badly needed. I just finished a biography of Elizabeth Taylor and while smelling this perfume I think of a quote of hers from the book... "I've been through it all, baby, I'm Mother Courage. This perfume evokes that, it is the scent of Mother Courage and the Dark Queen.

failedutopia

From the bottle, this is uncannily like YSL Opium to my nose. Vintage, sultry, classy. A mature woman who's "still got it."

berrycool1211

This perfume is strong, dark and sultry. It's powdery and animalic or indolic yet has a freshness and greenness to it. I find this scent to be more suitable for the mature woman.

I am not familiar with civet but I think I do smell something 'dirty' and I believe that's the civet. I do love the scent but I have to be careful not to spray too much of it otherwise, it becomes nauseous.

This scent can be sexy but I don't think many men will like this. It is strong and daunting. However, I feel like if a woman has been in a relationship with a man for a long time and they both trust each other and get along well, then I believe a man will like such scent on a woman.

Longevity, on skin it was around 2 hours. On clothing, 6 hours plus.

This is the scent that the evil queen in Snowwhite would wear. It has a strong vintage vibe to it, it is bold and quite dark and in the same time elegant in a cold distant way. I am not sure if I like it or totally diss it, and that just makes me more curious to explore it, but in colder temperature - though I have a feeling, this needs ice to glow. What I really appreciate with this type of fragrance is, that it invites me to another time in another decade. As I mentioned, it has a strong vintage vibe- and my bottle is produced 1 year ago.

Idk what happened, I sprayed it once and hated it and scrubbed it off and never wanted to smell it again. I also complained about it to people who don't care on at least two occasions. Today, months later, I wanted to smell purple and thought "hmm.." so I put it on and it smells amazing and I love it so much that I'm about to top 3 this bisch

Oh how bold! How haunting! Lustful! So powdery at first then blossoms into the sexiest spicy smoke so vintage I feel like I’m in a Kenneth Anger film and I have the urge to smoke a cigarette. An image of the short film “Puce Moment” conjures up in my head: Hollywood glamour and the “adornment of magickal rainments in approach of the night.”

A musky, oriental, animalic beast mode fragrance so strong that just one drop of it lingers powerfully on my wrist. The dry down is sensual and frighteningly rich, not for the innocent and meek. For those willing to stand out unapologetically as if ones existence were a sacred gift to this world. I can’t wear this unless I’m willing to be Her, through and through. This perfume is a piece of art and has incredible character. A nighttime beauty. Purple, magical, entirely mysterious.

Wow. Instant love. Smoky, smooth, seamlessly blended, thoroughly intoxicating. (And that's the current formulation. I'd love to try something vintage.) This is so different from the other ETs I've smelled. It's like stepping into the ring with Muhammad Ali after sparring with a bunch of vapid welterweights. Total knockout.

jasiepooh

this perfume performs quite differently on my skin as compared to on clothing. on skin, i smell incense to begin--notes of leather perhaps but mostly just very pungent incense. as the scent progresses, it becomes more powdery and i pick up on the wood and musk notes. on clothing, it's almost the opposite. i'm able to pick up a bit better on the opening notes, specifically the coriander and yland-ylang. then it turns to incense and stays as such lol.

this perfume is my mom's and i really enjoy it, especially with time. to me, the scent is very woodsy in the opening and akin to burning incense. that said, it develops beautifully and powdery after giving it some time to wear (an hour or so). the longevity of this fragrance is also great, even on skin. my skin eats up most perfumes within a couple of hours, but this lasts at least 6 hours.

LauraAD

I blind bought a vintage bottle on eBay based on my tastes and the stated notes. It's a divine ball of spicy, incense, civet, leather goodness, with an undertone of honey and cedar and I absolutely adore it. Even on a 30 degree sunshine day, it's just beautiful. And can we mention the gorgeous art deco bottle? So pretty. Projects for miles and wraps everyone around you in it's glorious haze. Lasts forever on my skin too.

I have been on a Liz Taylor kick ever since rediscovering White Diamonds, which is a signature for me. Passion just might take that place! I am a huge fan of her fragrances in general and this one is no exception. First impressions: this is the perfume of a seductress. She's a femme fatale in all her indulgent '80s glory. The thing is, this particular fragrance could have easily been from a bygone era, because while she's sexy as hell, she's got elegance and class. Smoky, leathery, civet. A few sparkling aldehydes give it a certain bling. This may be beloved by older women, but only because older women know what's good!

EDIT: Lo and behold, this has taken a co-starring place as #1 in my fragrance world, alongside White Diamonds, can't decide which I adore most. I can't get enough and the more I wear it, the more I find myself falling in love with previously overlooked intricacies of this HEAVENLY, deep scent. I want to smell this way forever.

Got a blind buy, 2021, so assume it's recent version. I really like this one! On first spray I can't discern any notes as it's well blended IMO but a funny thing happened.
I sprayed it on my nightgown to test drive it and went to bed.(It's strong btw.) In the night i got up and this familiar smell of original Opium was in the air around me... I was confused and dazed, as half asleep, thinking "why can i smell Opium? who has been spraying it about my home? i haven't worn it for a while..".then I realized it was the Passion on ME wafting up. It really filled the air!
I therefore presume it's the got the Mellis accord ,and in fact Eugenol was there for sure. So now I am picking that note up, and something plant that may be artemesia which i usually hate (had to ditch my Bandit for that reason). The sillage and lasting are incredible and all in all i am really pleased i pulled the trigger after considering it for years. Old school and a real bargain.

I have to admit to being a bit puzzled the first time I tested Passion. I was shopping and came out to the car wearing a spray, feeling totally shocked. What I smelled was a sharp and pungent Men's scent, not a woman's. My brother (not a perfume freak) immediately said 'I LIKE that', confirming my observation, if not my sentiment! There was no sweetness and a butch wood/smoke/incense vibe that seemed to me quite manly.

Fast forward a few years and I got to test the vintage. Ahem. What a difference a day makes... (Or more than a few days, in this case!). Vintage Passion is plush and warm and like a wonderfully rounded brunette wearing plum colored lipstick with tuberose incense in the air about her. Just charming.

A few years after THAT - yes, fragrance is a journey! - I read a Fragrantica article. Sadly of forgotten title and author, but it contained an unexpected gem. While celebrating a budget scent, it casually mentioned that when women's scents are reformulated - i.e., cheapened - very often they lean more masculine. And therefore are rather unisex! Aha. It hit home to me that more than one fragrance measures up nicely to this summary, while thoroughly explaining my Passion experience.

So today I have a mini of the vintage and consider myself quite blessed. Though I found today's Passion far less challenging the last time sniffed - and therefore would not turn down the current version! I can easily layer something warm and powdery atop, after all. The scent DNA is the same, if less femme fatal. My nose has 'grown up' enough to enjoy both. :D

Long lasting, powerful scents will always have a place in my heart, if only because they speak of a scent era I wanted to live myself and would love to have return. Love live the Elizabeth Taylor curves and color of perfumery. We need more of this in today's fragrance world!

pursueliving

I used to wear this in the 80's and it was one of my femme-fatale fragrances that was delicious. I re-purchased to re-capture the memory, but perhaps the scent, my nose or my memory has changed. Either way it didn't elicit the same love that I once had and I don't remember it smelling like it does now. Still a nice perfume but if you're looking for the older versions or an old memory, try a small bottle first. I think this version smells like soap.

shellsybelle

Oh my... I got a bottle of this as a gift from an American couple that my parents met whilst coming back from somewhere. When they came back over here to New Zealand they bought us all gifts. I got a lovely Liz Clairborne handbag and a bottle of Passion. I am not sure what gifts my sister and brother got. I was roughly 19 or so. The couple were old enough to be my grandparents. The bottle was not on the New Zealand shelves yet and people would stop me whenever I wore it and would ask what perfume I was wearing.

Passion back then was a mature scent, something I didn’t always wear but something that smelt grownup to me. Prior to this I had a bottle of Gucci no 3, Sublime (Jean Patou) an Aunt had given me and a selection of body sprays and borrowing my Mum’s Ysatis (Givenchy) and Opium (Yves Saint Laurent) occasionally. After I had finally finished the bottle I then went on to other fragrances and must have forgotten about it.

Fast forward to today and the bottle is the same but the cap looks a bit different. The scent is more fruitier than how I remember it and it kind of sits with perfumes like Red Door and Maroussia my other eighties style fragrances I own. It’s rich and dark, the musk tones still sit close to my body. I like it more for the cooler months as it opens up nicely around the fire where I feel I can smell amber, possibly peach and woody tones.

A great perfume and excellent silage. My scent tends to stay all day on my body and it lingers on to your clothes too after the day has ended. This would be a lovely fragrance also for night time wearing and day and I think would be lovely during the autumn (fall) periods too. I love it all over again and throughly enjoy it now I’m in my forties.

VioletOrchid

Oh my God! I can’t possibly begin to describe how much I love this perfume💜 Imagine a 20s pinup girl going to a speakeasy. It’s seductive, luxurious and simply unmatched by allll the perfumes that I’ve ever smelled (and I’ve smelled very very many). Not to mention, it costs so little for such great quality! It gives Dior poison a run for its money.

PS. This is one of those scent creations that can possibly change your taste in perfumes. You will no longer view moderen perfumes the same.

CrazyRussianChick

I simply love this one! I'm so happy it hasn't been discontinued over the years and the price one can get it for! It's such a beauty with amazing performance! And it doesn't smell cheap at all!

Maja36

Such a timeless scent.I totally agree with the reviewer saying this smells much better than fragrances three or maybe four times the price.Tested few days ago and bought it today... This is amazing ,I'm in love with Passion. The smell is rich, bit creamy, velvety with perfect amount of sweetness and kinda fresh at the same time ,wow!! The combination is masterfully done. Does not smell heavy,it's balanced to perfection, just give it at least 15 mins to warm up.I still can't detect the smokiness, but it's early I guess, with such a complex beast you need time,or maybe it's just my skin. This is a scent I would wear anywhere ,smells so elegant, classy and very, VERY nice. I am sure I'll grab for this one very often,it's fantastic. And lasts!!! Hope it will be around forever,I'm in love!

FadiTheEvangelist

If anyone is on a budget and needs a long lasting perfume that smells very, very good, Passion would be a fragrance to consider. Really, it smells better than a lot of MUCH more expensive perfumes.

TwoPetals

This fragrance is absolutely stunning to me! I bought a bottle of new version, just to see what I have been passing over for decades and I can't believe how beautiful the smell is. It's smokiness, sweetness, creaminess blended with florals in the most delightful to my senses way. I am now waiting for a vintage to arrive in the mail, as this perfume is something I don't ever want to be without. Also want to try men's version. I see this perfume worn with denim, leather jacket and cowboy boots!

echurch1979

I tried to appreciate this perfume for decades! In my possession for that long, lovingly kept sheltered from natural light or harsh temperatures. Periodically, I would draw it out and try it on my skin again...and again, it would go back on the shelf. After 30 years, I finally sold it online for far less than it was worth, and now I'm confessing my sadness to you, dear stranger. The heartbreak is that it is really is pretty wonderful scent, and I desperately wanted to swoon over the incense and honeyed leather notes. She was a grand thing after all, and I'm not sure which note in a magnum list of ingredients, soured it on my skin. I was just not meant for it, I suppose. This however, should not deter you. It exists, to this day, a masterpiece - like Coco and Shalimar's bohemian daughter...and from what I've heard, very much like Ms. Taylor herself. But, nevertheless, worth serious consideration.

HoneyPamela

Maybe Elizabeth Taylor's Passion was glorious in its day of the glorious 80s, but this has to be a mere shadow of what it once was. I got all the notes barely, such as the white floral, purple heliotrope -- ah ha I see why it is packaged in purple! It smells like purple would smell. Then it warms up to a sweet dewy honey, a hint of incense, and spicy goodness, so that I anticipated this fragrance is going to be promising. Within an hour it dried to a soapy mess, like some cheap men's aftershave. So disappointed and I bought this bottle at a reputable retail outlet so I know it's not a fake. In the past I have enjoyed other Elizabeth Taylor perfumes, White Diamonds, and the others, and missed this one. Maybe it's the reformulation, so not going to judge on the vintage Passion version. Ah well, soapy is just not my thing. Struck out last 2 times. I'm not sure what it is, but it has to be something that is used in the manufacture of lower-priced fragrances that is causing the off-putting soapiness that is not soapy in a good way.

Mystères du Château de Dé

Clearly in the top ten of all the many thousands of bargain bin fragrances. If only they would upgrade the cap. The bottle is lovely, budget Art Deco.

First of all, Passion is a complex, interesting, grown up perfume. Secondly, the impact has a bit of the magic and fantasy of a doll's or a child's plastic jewels and taffeta gown. Uncanny. Maleficent would wear this. Passion must have been fabulous in it's original quality.

mirrorghost

this starts with tons of oakmoss, white florals and some woods. it definitely smells familiar from my childhood days. later on i get a lot of incense and leather, the oakmoss gets more subtle and the florals come through more. i really like this one a lot, and i get elements of bal a versailles as well as poison...i can definitely see the connections. in the time i remember this perfime, i was young but now i could see myself wearing this in my older age. love the incense and white florals in this especially.

bourcet

1988 was one hell of a year. Granted I was in preschool at the time, but damn, how I would have loved to ride out the denouement of the 80s in a real way, other than by wetting my pants and playing with Gobots. Passion makes me think of the time when black leather dusters were THE jacket to wear, when INXS ruled the world and Elizabeth Taylor was unmarried. Maybe that's what makes this perfume so...so something. There's an undeniable je ne sais quoi about this; it's sexy and sophisticated and certainly smells expensive for something I got for less than $20 at Marshalls. Despite being an 80s banger it has a timeless vibe to me, similar to Quelques Fleurs L'Original by Houbigant. Both fragrances are heavy on the aldehydes, but with Passion the light powder of the aldehydes is grounded by the civet and the deeper chypre and smoky accords. Although this perfume has an obscene amount of notes, it comes across as being very well blended. I think the best part of Passion is the lack of linearity; the pretty powdery yet incense-heavy drydown is really where this baby sings. If you're not in the mood for the 80s rollercoaster, even just spraying this on paper and enjoying it that way is worth it.

Seaworthy

Passion is an intriguing fragrance! Big opening of aldehydes and spice, drying down to smokey sweetness and plenty of civet, it smells much more expensive than it is. I will say that the opening was a turn off for me, however the dry down is really where Passion's beauty lies. It does smell vintage and very similar to Tabu and Anne Klein 2 but Passion is different in that the aldehydes create a pronounced soapiness that the other two fragrances lack. I love all three fragrances, each is similar yet has their own character. I get good longevity and sillage from Anne Klein 2 and Tabu but Passion is BEAST MODE! I can easily get 8 plus hours on my fragrance eating skin with plenty of sillage! Passion is a must have for people who enjoy vintage fragrances.

GoodVibrations

Complex, deep, and spicy, this potion quickly shifts into the animalic, leathery, and slightly indolic territory of sweet personal smells. The structure is amazing, and for that reason it could be mistaken for a daring Guerlain or something that’s hard to find stateside. It doesn’t smell cheap. It smells direct.

mapache

An under-rated gem...IMHO.
What a surprise..when I first sniffed this today.
I get a vintage-style vibe from this. Almost...chypre...??...but not quite. Yes it has a vibe of a lighter Bal a Versailles....and yeah....a tiny bit of Dior Poison-ish vibe...???.....and yup...a tinge of Dana Tabu too.
All this blended together....somehow...works out very well.
Decent performance/projection.
I find this "sweetens" as it dries down....so spray lightly.
I did a layering test with Passion for men...and wow...that was amazing.

medusa666

Mysteriously passionate fragrance with a witchy aura. After a couple of hours it smells even better leaving a sweet trail of balsamic notes. Wear it and buy a few bottles as one day it will be hard to find and its price will triple...

Aeiris81

I am not impressed, unfortunately. I was expecting it to be aldehidic, vintagey, soapy, big floral, etc. It is all that, it does smell strong and sharp for about one hour or so. But after that...poof and all I am left with is a soapy faint whisper. Such a pitty, I had high hopes. I don't regret buying it, it is a cheapie and I will probably make use of it but I will not repurchase.
Edit: it seems all it needed was a dark and dry place and the longevity problem got solved. Amazed by just how beautiful this is, an 80s powerhouse yet it doesn't feel outdated in spite of the strong aldehydic debut. Drydown is beautiful, musky and warm, what a delight to wear this winter.

louiee

Truly and utterly love for me at first sniff.
A bargain for the price...!
I mostly get divine aldehydes, lily-of-the-valley and creamy gardenia.
Mature, graceful, feminine and classy.
Absolutely no regrets on this blind buy.
A gem in my fine collection.
Strong and potent stuff....lasts an eternity on clothes and skin. Silage is above average on me.
Love it

One (the spectacular Broadway dance with the entire cast forming a line on stage doing the high kick number...I saw this with my mother back in the late 80's...it was a great show! Loved it!)
Song by Marvin Hamlisch

One singular sensation, every little step she takes
One thrilling combination, every move that she makes
One smile and suddenly nobody else will do
You know you'll never be lonely with you-know-who
One moment in her presence and you can forget the rest
For the girl is second best to none, son
Oooh! Sigh! Give her your attention
Do I really have to mention she's the one

Passion -
This is gorgeous on, the more I have worn this - the more I am developing an appreciation for it. This is very similar to Estee Lauder's Youth Dew - which was one of my mother's very favorite perfumes...Passion by ET runs slightly softer, with less silage - however, still shows up and has presence. There is a discernible smokey incense note as well as a lotion note in this which makes this perfume unique - not run of the mill. You'll have to research the reviews on this - this is one of those perfumes that I was too young to have worn when it first came on the market. I'm just now growing into this. It is a gorgeous signature perfume.

Passion is a great business woman's perfume, it has a depth that will be taken seriously, it wears at times like a 1980's/early 90's perfume statement. It definitely "makes a statement" - and has the sophistication to be taken seriously. The name "Passion" fits Elizabeth Taylor and is a word that was well chosen to introduce her very first perfume. (Yes, this launched before White Diamonds). This is well crafted, refined, beautiful, and lady-like. It is truly exquisite, sensational. Try this one, you never know... I really think this should have gained as much popularity as White Diamonds, more people need to try this perfume.

If I weren't constantly trying new perfumes, this may be "the one" - but there are days when I still want something more light and airy, more like my Eau du Ciel.

My mother wore fragrances like this very well, even from an early age. She would have been around 32 when I remember her wearing "Youth Dew" which has a very similar vibe to this.

I love this one - though. There is really something special about this. I think my mother would have absolutely loved this. She had great taste in perfumes, clothing, makeup, etc... she was a classic business woman - very well respected in the community.

I'm still growing into this, there are times when I feel that I have gained enough maturity for this - then there are times when I still prefer something lighter, more sweet and girlish. For now, I keep this in my perfume collection for times when I want to step into more power. I've rarely worn this outside my home, but when I have sprayed this and sit behind my computer keyboard -- this gives me more of a sense of being pulled together where I can handle my topics with better clarity and much more power and attention to detail.

For now, this is my secret weapon, for times I want to step into the role of queen, but only in my imagination!

-----------

This perfume catches me off guard. Just when I think that this scent has died down and is no longer present on my arm - I move my arm and catch this wonderful whiff of this divine fragrance. Wow! This was extremely well crafted, attention to every detail and how this chemistry interacts with my own skin is rather fantastic. It is respectful and to be respected. It is diametrically opposite all of the sugary sweet cotton candy type perfumes which have defined this previous decade.

Jacquis

Oh Passion........... This is the kind of perfume that demands you pick a side. You either absolutely hate it or absolutely love it. Very rarely in between. Extremely powdery, loud and persistent. Performance is guaranteed. Amazing value. Very nostalgic because if you have ever smelled this perfume in the past, you will not forget. The interesting thing about Passion is that if you hate it now, there is a high probability that you will love it in a few years. As for me, I'll have to wait a few years but, respect!

EDIT: Exactly 1 year later. This is an absolute love. You just cannot beat character.

mldaleali28

This is a very dark, sensual, classy beauty and it definitely doesn’t smell cheap. I grew up in a communist country where this perfume was non existent so it doesn’t remind me of anything, I would say I can judge it just for its beauty, not based on some olfactive memory. It lasts for weeks on the clothes and 8 hours at least on my perfume-eating skin. I love it.

ALC555

This is a very good oriental fragrance. I wear this sometimes with the men's Passion to make it more unique. It has a dark gothic vibe which l like. It is strong enough to be masculine. Love it!

eqmorgans

My Walmart had this in clearance for about $8 so I figured I'd give it a try and blind buy it. I have worn it a few times now and am really liking it. It's a very complex scent and seems to really play on my body chemistry. This is not, I repeat NOT, for the silly little girls who want to smell like cotton candy. This is for the fully mature woman who knows what she wants and how to get it and isn't afraid of her sexuality. This is a bit raunchy, smoky, sultry and very sensual. To me the opening is a bit sharp and something of tobacco smoke and spices. Then is settles into the sandalwood, incense and leather. There is something to this...like the smell of fresh sweat or something. Not stinky BO, but the kind of sweat that makes you want to lick it off your partner if that makes any sense! Anyway, I am now obsessed with this scent and when I went back to Walmart I went right back to see if they had any more. To my shock they had further reduced it to $2.08 but the shelf was empty. I dug around & found 2 bottles hidden way behind some men's scents. I put both of them in my cart!!!
p.s. This stuff is strong and lasts. I put one spray on my wrist to try it and a week later can still smell it on the sweater I wore.

Elsee

Find this somewhere in your perfume stash and try it again. It's glorious and one that we could all use right now in the midst of this pandemic. It will bring back memories and spark some new ones...an oldie but still hauntingly beautiful.

Stay well and Happy Halloween!!

Xenia0504

An interesting scent; a cheapie not at all smelling cheap.

Great projection and duration; nobody will ever tell that you have spent less than 30$ to smell as rich as this.
To my nose this is a perfume resembling to Dior's classic "Poison", or Cacharel's "Loulou". "Passion" has a more powdery vibe.

Surely suitable for winter nightwear and probably the best from Elizabeth Taylor's perfume line. Even unisex too.

Only drawback in my opinion: far too "dark" a formula for me; a perfume to empower my confidence but not to uplift my psychology.

GlamourCadaver

Whew! A fabulous, glamorous scent that somehow still makes me feel like a positively filthy in all the best ways possible.

The first time I ever encountered Passion, I was thrifting in Chicago on a day where everything in the store was 1/2 off, and saw the gorgeous purple bottle available, $24, down to $12. I asked to smell it, and was nearly knocked dead by the aldehydes, but already felt myself become addicted. I purchased the bottle without spraying.

My first time actually wearing it, I nearly bathed in it, and entering a room (well, the nightclub bathroom), I heard, "It smells like old white woman in here!"

Passion is both regally powdery, and absolutely (pleasantly) nasty. In the bottle (and upon first spray), it smells of aldehydes and mild florals (primarily tuberose), but the true star of the show, the civet, is also immediately noticeable. This note blooms on the skin, turning what appears to be a refined and opulent fragrance into a monster of sex and scandal. Incense that recalls the joy of post-coital cigarettes, leather and oakmoss providing a firm, earthy ground of the perfumes I enjoy, but the half-dozen various flowers in here could never tame the raunchiness of this musk. There is a distinctly purple character to this perfume that I would gather even if it weren't for the gorgeous art-deco bottle; somewhere between aged wine and heliotrope.

I would wear Passion almost coyly. While my default scents are the musky, salacious scents of Tabu & Youth-Dew, Passion felt simultaneously classier and skankier! I would wear it to formal settings, but Passion always gave the sensation of wearing lingerie beneath a fur coat. Elizabeth Taylor was never one of my personal icons, but I recognize the glamour she signifies; this perfume embodies it. The aforementioned thrifted bottle is now empty, but I still sniff it from time to time, and do plan on buying a new one soon.

nordstorm

The old-school prequel...the better version of Bianchi's Lover's Tail (excuse my autocomplete ;) Tale). I have no words. So complex...It is stunning! It is drawing! It is passion!

"I am the gentle stream
That trickles through the summer glades
Of ever green peace
Therefore we will drink my sleep and dream

I am the bleeding sky,
The snatching wind of war
Blowing through the savage garden
My crown is fire, the erotic sinews of lust
Like strings to be pulled, and cut

I will make my puppets dance
The men will bow down before me
To take my flesh as lucid thoughts
Of dark, unbridled lust

I am all these things and more
Thus I await you, nemesis of restraint
The code of life, and the bride of evil itself"

CunningStunt

Whoa! I can't believe I have yet to review Passion because I love and wear it so much.

It is rather "mature" I guess, but I would like to think it's not all that difficult to wear. Challenging for your average millennial consumer in 2020, perhaps. Either way I adore it and if it's good enough for Dame Elizabeth then it's certainly good enough for the rest of us. ;)

You have to love aldehydes, animalic and smoky perfumes, not just orientals in general so this is absolutely not a safe blind buy and you HAVE to wear it on your skin for at least 10 hours to experience the whole thing.
Yes, this thing has monster longevity and the perfect sillage unless you overspray which ruins it. You can smell it on yourself and people within arms length can also detect it, plus you will leave a trail of beautiful smoky animalic spice and woods. Very mysterious and unique, it turns heads so it's not for wallflower.

It's not as impressive applied on clothes or paper strips; Passion needs skin and body heat with cool air circulating around to come alive and reveal her secrets. Victoria is a nice girl but she's got nothing on this femme fatale Dame.
A woman with dark hair is best suited to Passion but anyone can wear it. On some its a rather floral church lady scent, on others it is a sweet smoky delicious sex bomb. I'm lucky to be in the latter camp, and I enjoy every second of it.
Poison came before Passion but I think of Passion as Poisons older somewhat witchy cousin, travelled and with more notches on her bedpost. Poison is wonderful and I love it too, but it's just not as sexy to me. Layer them together and magic happens, it's more like vintage Poison with an added animalic punch. Or like a stronger version of Ted Lapidus Pour Homme with feminine powder and florals.
Sometimes I crave this so badly during warm weather that i will stand in front of the AC and dot a bit on my hand just to huff it like an addict. It needs that cool air to smell perfect.

vetiverberry

I got a small vintage bottle of this from my grandma. This is the original eau de parfum, most likely purchased before I was born and kept in a dark cupboard for almost 3 decades. I love the design of the bottle, and the fact that even the juice appears to be almost black in color. It's all a big vibe and I'm into it.

So, moving on to the actual fragrance within. This is not one of those vintages that you’re gonna mistake for being anything but Vintage with a capital V. This is really bold and really, really mature. I feel like I’ve definitely smelled it before, and to me, it is congruent with large shoulder pads and big hair.

It starts with strong ylang-ylang, gardenia, and coriander. Paired with the aldehydes, it kind of reminds me of perm solution, but somehow not in an unpleasant way, if that makes any sense. It’s familiar, but unique. After a few minutes, it’s really strongly animalitic, with civet, leather, incense, and something powdery, either heliotrope or orris dominating. The sweetness holding all of this up is very honey-like, which is usually difficult to pull off without getting too indolic on my skin. I didn’t like it at first, but it’s honestly kind of comforting the longer I wear it. It feels like a hug, it feels like opening a hatbox full of old photographs. It gets prettier as it develops and I can smell more of the florals, and something creamy, most likely vanilla.

Although I think the way this smells is nice, it's POWERFUL and it can get cloying fast if you overdo it, one or two sprays behind the knees might be all this needs. I feel like it’s something that not just anyone could pull off without being overwhelming, but I encourage you to try it for yourself. I can’t speak for the reformulations, but the vintage is at least unique to my collection. Projection is as good as everyone says, I don’t know if anyone around me liked it much, but they could certainly smell me from at least six feet away for the first hour or two. The longevity is also a full 8 hours on skin, with projection fading gradually, which is making me wonder what they did to perfumes back then. I wish my niche stuff had this kind of performance.

I probably won’t wear this out very much, I think it’s too mature for me, but I like that I have it.

Malita6623

Original formula was great, it has been reformulated, smells different.

Animalic powder...

When i first sprayed it i felt quite sensual! i get that powder smoke with a touch or dark floral within! i get civet, incense, powder, sandalwood, honey, tuberose, heliotrope, coriander, coconut, ylang, & vanilla.

This combination is mesmerizing. It's very calming, and incredibly balanced. I really enjoyed the harmony i got sniffing this blend. Beautiful.

diego.lesgart

Marvellous opinios! marvellous fragance! Luxury, sexual and sophisticated like her diva ... With the clear glam of the 80s as Paloma Picasso, Poison, Armani for her, La Nuit and Fendi 85 ... Great caracter and impresion, a magnetic fild, a bomb ... Synonim of status ... In the same vein of Obssession, Creation by Lapidus and Poison (for my nose). Fabulous bottle. Remainds not only to Liz, the 80s t.v divas too.

Solinger

This is the first fragrance that I bought, knowing, that I will definately dislike the scent itself. Sounds strange, I know :D. Minus the aldehydes , tuberose and civet and then it would soothe me, but then it wouldn't be passion, would it? Right.
The reason why I bought it, is because of historical reasons. If i'm not mistaken then this is the first ever celebrity perfume? Please correct me if i'm wrong. I do love the bottle and the box, such a beautiful purple colour! It also gives me those 80's vibes wich is a decade that I love!
Maybe some day I will make friends with the juice inside, but for now it's just going to stay pretty on the shelf. :)

Tried to read everyone's review to see if anyone is experiening the same sensation of fresh honeycomb "bricks" that I do while wearing Passion?

On me it is a mix between civety Bal a Versailles, sappy Tabu and musky Paloma Picasso - musky, very waxy, spicy sandalwood.

I absolutely love the smell of these sweet beewax pellets, aromatic to the core, with hint of civet and so so warm. Like a processed and already "decomposted" into a honeycomb flowers on my skin, beautiful oddity. It is an unexpected rarity to be able to inhale something so intentionally "organic" and carnal, yet calm.

The fragrance that somehow melts and blends with your skin, instead of giving you plastic-like unnatural "coverage" as far too many modern juices do to me. What a bliss.

Looking For Gabby

It’s 1989 on a Thursday night and its past my bedtime but I’m thirsty or maybe I’m just avoiding sleep, I quietly head to the kitchen to grab a glass of water and I sneak past my parents who are sitting on the couch watching Dynasty.

Gosh, if televisions had smell-o-vision Dynasty would smell like Passion.

It’s smoky oriental and animalic. It’s harsh, strong in the aldehydes. It’s in your face; you’ll get noticed wearing this. Passion is definitely dated, does not smell modern at all but that’s not to say a modern woman can’t pull this off. I love this for night outs. Some nights I want to smell like Alexis Colby and cause a little havoc around town.

It’s a classic.

Victorianvicki

I recieved this in a sample group. Ah. Nice. Spicy, I know I know a celebrity fragrance.like. leading to love. Also lively dark color.

Vanillastorm40

Ohhh no no no. Lol. Saw the notes n jumped on a tester at CVS. This is s a scrubber. I saw that someone mentioned it smells a little bit like Poison. I love Poison and it I really don't think the smells anything like it. I always look and want to try out perfumes that are in dark bottles like this. Something about the purple always entices me. I love deep dark sense. This? I don't know what I would even consider it but it's a big no.

CypressSnow

I liked it a lot, especially the soft coco in the background, but something in the chemical composition was bothering me, like it was strangling the throat. I had a gift set with other Taylor fragrances, looks like they all bother me, White Diamonds being the worse offender.

annxyz

A spritz of this powerhouse ( vintage ) brought back a flood of memories as my mother wore this well . It suited her big personality , and I never thought I would wear it . I ordered a vintage bottle and am revisiting this mainly for nostalgia , but also because I love spicy and complex orientals . Passion is definitely complex and is nothing like the candied sugar scents that cost $100 and last two hours .

The current formula ( compared to vintage ) is a bit more subdued and less intense , but it is still a beautiful perfume that has been somewhat modernized in a good way . I love the combo of incense and floral and powder notes and can easily see Elizabeth wearing this perfume as it is rich and glamorous , though the price is so affordable . The current formula does remind me of the earlier versions of Poison that are now rather watery and indistinct . Do not disregard this perfume because it is older . The drydown of the current formula of Passion reminds me a lot of the early versions of Poison from Dior
( which does not smell very good now ) . The drydown is now softer , and I think this reformulation is quite good .

To those who dare to call this an old lady scent I remind you that many perfumes like Chanel #5 , Youth Dew , Lagerfeld’s Chloe , Shalimar, White Diamonds have been treasured by more than one generation generation for good reason - they are simply pretty !

It appears to me after reading a thousand plus reviews here, that any perfume that is not drenched in fruit syrup , caramel , or marshmallows quickly gets the old lady tag by reviewers who have a very limited frame of reference and a lack of emotional intelligence .

tyekristopher

I had a lady who would spray so much of this on that it ran down her neck in our office on a hot day in summer and it was overbearing . To me this shares some similarities to Dior poison not identical but similar. It’s very vintage baby powder , it might smell good on some but my coworker over did this one .

Anamandy

Decided to wear this after my shower tonight. I put one drop of the vintage parfum (Parfums International, not EA/Taylor Parfums) on the back of my hand right below the wrist. I then brought the back of that hand to the back of my other hand. With just those two small points of contact I am now surrounded by an extraordinarily rich, sexy, and sensuous fragrance.

Wearing this perfume conjures up images of Cleopatra (not Liz Taylor’s rendition, though I’m willing to bet Cleo crossed her mind with this fragrance). I was recently reading how perfumers are trying to recreate fragrances from that period in history using popular ingredients of the day. This exotic perfume certainly feels like it would fit right in.

This is not a fragrance to be sprayed pell-mell or with abandon. If you do you will probably hate it; and I suspect that misuse has a lot to do with why it's so polarizing. This isn't just another perfume. It can't be applied the same way. Too much and it will overwhelm and seem very dated. Less is clearly more with this scent. It really is an astoundingly beautiful perfume when applied properly. I really adore it!

juniemoon

Maybe the bottle I got is old but it doesn't last long at all, very disappointed.

I rolled on some Kuumba Black Copium on top of it and that I could smell.

Bruxadomar

I bought it blind due to reviews and absolutely loved it. It is difficult to explain, it is quite loud at the opening but dry down rather quickly and becomes very comfortable. I can smell the incense but in moderation, definitely for a more mature woman not teen.

jmiro7

What a wonderful surprise this was. It is indeed an over the top oriental, but totally comfortable in the way Shalimar is. I love the civet note up top and brings to mind Bal a Versailles, which was a favorite of Miss Taylor I have heard. Could this simply be a coincidence? Furthermore, it is indeed true the dry down is very masculine. If the top notes were reworked this could easily have been a masculine. Nevertheless it is totally appropriate for a lady to wear.

Lixa

I just bought this without testing, based on reviews and the fact that I love Diamonds and Rubies, not to mențion that I have developed a preference for strong, bold, and in my opinion, "real" perfumes, of the 80's and 90's. (Currently wearing Youth Dew in cold weather).

Upon first impression, I can't say that it's bad, but surely I wouldn't have bought it if I had tested it first. Not sure what to make of it. The opening is very strong and sweet, flowery and quite nice, but the dry down is dissapointing. I can't discern anything but some kind of generic, weird incense.
This bottle is made in the U.S for House of Taylor Cosmetics. It's a definite dislike.

Shimmels

My signature fragrance in the 90's. Revisited it a few years back and it smelled like a pack of incense sticks. Heavy, spicy perfumes were in during the 70's-90's, but today they smell horrid to me. All my favs from that era, i.e. Ciara, Norell, Halston smell dark and dirty to me today. Can't believe Passion was my fav in my 30's. It's a spice bomb sure to be smelled from miles away. Guess that's what we were into back then lol. Scents sure have changed.

Denoula

I feel as if 'Passion' increases my curves by about two cup sizes. Powerfully animalic, I like it.

estaesta

reformulation:

after initial blast of intense civet, an immediate powder explosion. settles into a dense heavy hitter mimicking the original old spice for men and the reformulated opium eau de toilette and poison.
I bought it reading the reviews saying this was a oriental that could pass as expensive. I disagree, eventho its strong, it has a very soapy drugstore vibe, too much flower powder puff to be a dupe for an exotic persian incense balsamic dream.
It also reminds me of dragonblood / amber / nightqueen / sandalwood incense but then the being whacked in the face with the powder residue from the boxes. it will be a love for heavy hitters of powdery perfumes.
i do not get the same vibe as obsession at all, the spices are all hidden behind a smog of white blooms and powder.

Angelli4870

Pure parfume is the best, no alcohol blast like the edt. I was able to aquire a small vintage bottle of passion and so far, I'm loving it. It's really an interesting perfume, soft powdery florals, intriguing woods and resins, a very comforting scent and stays close to the body. I get whiffs of it throughout the evening, very long lasting. A great but.

indiglo

I find the civet note rather challenging and this is just... a lot. But I do find it plush and it may be growing on me.

meliecat

I grabbed it at an amazing price - but unfortunately I think this will go to my Mum or Grandma..

The opening is lovely - first few seconds are a tad bit strong - it is a burst of woods, spices, incense and civet; this lasts about half an hour and this is the phase which I actually do like. Then in comes leather, sandalwood and everything else - at this point it still is nice and it "sinks in" your skin.

The lowdown is the drydown..I sprayed it on at night and woke up in the morning smelling my arm - nothing else but old-school men`s shaving foam. That`s all that`s left behind after 8 hours..Maybe it`s just my skin, but I can`t stand the idea of smelling like shaving foam to anyone..Therefore I must give this one a miss, even though the opening is actually quite nice and very much enjoyable..Such a pity..

medusa666

@Konga5000
All the Passion EDT bottles have been the same-the perfume EDP miniature size bottle is the only one with the centered diamond painted in.

medusa666

Passion by ET is a very distinctive perfume that no other fragrance was able to copy.

My older sister wore this and smelled very heavy to me-but when recently I stopped by a store to take a sniff, I appreciated its beauty.
After aldehydes wear off it starts to transform. Every hour it changes and smells for days and days, leaving behind a veil of semi-dark, sweet aroma one of its kind.
It has the artemisia bitterness blended with the oriental balsamic coriander, the floral, sweet gardenia, lily-of-the-valley, vanila and coconut with the woody and musky notes of oakmoss, incense and sandalwood.

I wouldn't say it belongs to a different era-it belongs to a different woman with a style of her own..

TankGirl

Until now the only ET fragrance I cannot wear. I can see why this was popular before but nowadays this is just too much for me. This is a smoky civet bomb with shoulder pads and hair spray. If you are from that era there is for sure nostalgia in this scent, it is opulent, sexy and loud. Purple velvet and black pearls come to mind.

Konga5000

Pro Tip for people searching VINTAGE bottles: Look for the painted "diamond" in the center of the bottle. New ones are unpainted. The older ones are painted in.

Harrisonpaulie1245

I used to own this fragrance and happened to get rid of it. Which I totally regret doing so. This is such a powerhouse and I’m obsessed with it. Thank goodness they still make it because I’m going to have to get me a bottle again soon. But my next fragrance on my list is Lanvin Arpege.

SailorV

I'm not sure what to make of Passion. I sampled it several times and it seems like a real shape-shifter. The opening smells very fresh and aldehydic, clean in an old-fashioned, soapy way. While I hate it when florals are soapy, I like this kind of bubbly aldehydes. The rose is also quite noticeable to me in this phase. I think the unusual cool purple color matches the opening quite well.
But underneath this, I get a powdery, sour, herbal, musty note that doesn’t work on my skin at all. I have the same problem with Tabu, though it’s not as strong in Passion. I suspect the coriander note to do this, or maybe it’s just some aromachemical that is common in older low-priced scents?
Later, in the final drydown, the scent changes again. Now it becomes warmer, a well-blended mixture that I can’t easily pick notes out of, but from the list I would pick florals, honey, leather and patchouli to describe this. The animalic edge of civet comes and goes, sometimes I really smell it, sometimes it’s barely there.

This is a very vintage-y, old school kind of scent. I’m not the biggest fan of those, but I like to sample them from time to time. Passion is not for me, as I can’t stand that one dusty note, but it’s an interesting, unique scent with many different facets.

GardeniaLover

Sandalwood is quite strong in this scent, incensy sandalwood. The initial blast mixed with civet and leather can be a bit offputting to say the least, bitter, harsh and strong, add oakmoss and it is absolutely masculine in the Kourus category. It does mellow down to a lighter sandalwood, tuberose, gardenia, honey, and other softer floral notes. It is animalic indeed, the civet is not tamed, it morphs into an elegant woody, floral scent. Blooming to gentler subtle notes of honey, coconut, jasmine, rose, vanilla in the dry down, none the less the base is still supporting the scent. A very niche creation in a very masculine presentation for a woman's fragrance, totally unisex.

Anamandy

Can anyone who knows tell me the difference between the pure perfume, which I have, and the vintage edt., which I just won on an ebay auction? Someone is downsizing her collection and I got a 1.5 oz. practically unused bottle (she got it as a gift and found it too heavy for her) for under $3.00, along with a bunch of other vintage scents really cheap. Is it that big a difference in terms of scent or is it totally different as so many edts are from their perfume counterpart?

Update - My edt arrived today and I am over the moon. This fragrance is spectacular. It is a little lighter than the pure perfume but still the same scent - just as 'passionate' and just as sensuous and smooth as the pure perfume. This fragrance was sure well named. It sure is Passion-ate. Everything works so seamlessly together. It is really a masterpiece of perfume artistry. I feel like I should be carrying on like Anna Magnani wearing this. Whew! This fragrance is off the rails. So is the silage and longevity. One spray on my wrist, rubbed my wrist together, then brought them up to my neck. Amazingly beautiful with just one spray. I adore it!

Ferra_Verto

One of the few civet-forward scents I can comfortably wear without getting nauseous. It's definitely the honey and the sandalwood that keep it wearable.

The aldehydes are very appealing; soft, gentle, and very clean. The spicy notes, oakmoss, and leather lend a certain dryness to the scent, but its tampered very well. I am surprised a fragrance with so many seemingly contradicting notes blend so well together. It's sensuous in a very cheerful and comforting way.

If you're looking for a wearable civet/aldehydic/spicy fragrance definitely try this.

Kb1993

I'm still trying to figure out what notes I can and can not tolerate
.
This especially the beginning I can't tolerate I suspect it is aldehydes?
Definitely not for me

Agnesca

It's hard to describe this scent on me. The most beautiful animalic and oakmoss notes are combined with the least inviting men's after shave. In one minute I adore it but I want to scrub it off in the other minute. I really suspect that it's about reformulation again..... In som emoments I see the resemblance with Bal a Versailles and I'm in heaven, but in others it's just an after shave again. Actually, it could be a good thing that it has a masculine side but not this way for me. I don't know wether this is a love or hate for me. Maybe I will be back with an update.

juxtapositionjones

In my teenage years, my older sister wore this. I wore Tabu. I own a bottle of Passion now, only for sentimental reasons.
This is far more like my sister.
Complicated
Melancholy
Feminine
It's a lovely soft seductive mix. Having said that, it is no wallflower. When my sister was around, you could smell her.
It has been arranged so seamlessly that it is slightly alluring.
Today's bottles look and smell slightly different to those retro bottles.

Anamandy

I just got a mini of this from fragrancenet to check out the scent. It's the dark bottle with the dark fan top, so I suspect it is the new reformulation. Whatever it is, it is beautiful. I put some on my wrists and it is wafting around me now as I type this. This is a loud, but soft, full, and deep oriental. The consistency of this upon application is slightly oily and thick. I only put one drop on my wrists, and rubbed my wrists together, and that is more than enough. This is so strong I dare not put it on my neck or anywhere near my nose since it is so overpowering I fear it might become cloying. Just on the wrists is how I would wear this fragrance in the future since the silage is so big with just the wrist application that family members of mine in the next room of my house can smell it. At that one drop rate of usage this little mini will probably be enough to last me the rest of my life.

As to the fragrance itself, on first sniff I picked up a little bit of a synthetic rubber scent, which I also smell in Opium, Café Café, and Obsession upon first application, but here it is fleeting and the spice becomes apparent. It is a very soft, warm, and slightly sweet spice; not a sharp spiciness. That spiciness and warmth is then joined by some very well rounded creamy white florals, a little woodiness, a little smokiness, and lots of musk which makes it very powdery on me. Civet is apparent but not in an offensive "I need to scrub my wrists" way. It supports and accentuates the florals. I assume since I am wearing the reformulation this is not the perfume as it once was. Nonetheless, despite that, it is still a beautiful composition.

One of the reviewers described this as a screaming scent. I'm not sure what that means but if they mean that this will get attention, for better or worse depending on whether someone else finds the scent attractive, I agree. But it is a smooth loudness. The best analogy I can give as to loudness would be like ET yelling in her role in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof as opposed to ET yelling in Who's afraid of Virginia Wolf. There is nothing brawny or brash about this fragrance. Sure it is loud, and people will know you are there with this scent, but it is also very, very, smooth. I like it. Would I buy a full bottle of this? Eh, maybe. Not sure yet. As this point I will use this mini perfume now and again when the mood strikes. Since it is so strong with just one drop this small bottle will probably last a long time.

Edit - I wore this scent in the cold weather and also in the warm weather. It doesn't smell as good in warm weather but really becomes glorious in the cold. Maybe some of the dislikes could be attributable to trying it in the wrong season?

Edit - managed to snag a vintage parfum for a song and it is amazing. So much better than the reformulation. I no longer think I can wear the reformulation after experiencing the parfum the way it was meant to be.

GardeniaLover

I can smell the tuberose I think, in the dry-down, the sweet, creamy sandalwood, honey, and piercing tuberose. I can detect a lot of notes, coconut sometimes the gardenia, it goes from one level to another, the initial spray is all civet, leather, and spices...I do like the white flowers in this, the tuberose is creamy, with the sandalwood, honey sweet.

I swear I smell the gardenia in there somewhere in the beginning phase, I know gardenia, it smells divine with the leather, and civet, somehow these little details tell me it is of great quality, as I can pick up many notes separately.

annxyz

This smells like nothing else I have known. It suited my mother who was a tough and assertive woman. It smelled nice on her, maybe because she was an aggressive personality . Overall , it is a nice long lasting oriental that works for some women very well .
Nothing demure about it at all . And it does not smell cheap to me, just STRONG .

damienthoresson

This is a glorious, sumptuous scent. Passion is about over-indulgence. The entire fragrance is carried by the sweetness of the honey, mixed with the creaminess of sandalwood and vanilla. All the way through, it's accompanied by incense which goes through the periods of dustiness and smokeyness. The aldehydes are very soft, almost creating a feeling of sparkle. Civet doesn't truly come out until after the first hour, at least not in the EDT. From the parfum, its there in the start. Strongly.

In the parfum, it comes across much more oriental with the help of corriander seeds, pepper, cinammon and carnation. It can be a bit screechier. However, it can be quite beautiful. I prefer the EDT, though.

mrmattcat78

I just layered the women’s and men’s it’s a super beast !!!!

AaronStar

There is a sweetness after drydown that is undefined by me, it could be the honey as I see the votes, I just really sense the bouquet of flowers all wrapped in a fragrant leather, incense aroma. This perfume is where man meets woman, it is coital, it blends the elements of masculinity and femininity in a passionate embrace, yet the masculine element is strong, strong as a loving man's embrace and that is the meaning of passion.

BorisGodunov

Passion is intoxicating. It's strong, but has gentleness in it. When I wear it I feel like I'm wearing very expensive crimson cashmere sweater in front of a fireplace. Passion feels safe, it smells like there's no worries on earth tonight.
It's not an universal scent, but it's one definitely worth trying, especially in colder weather.

Jbaule

I had made an entry about Passion several months ago. At the time I was still in a complicated relationship with it but in the last month as the temperatures started dropping in my part of the world I decided to give it another try. This time I was not disappointed! Either my skin chemistry has changed or my nose is more appreciative, but I am firmly in love with this previously hard for me to wear perfume. My fiance is too, as when I gave him a hug after having worn Passion all day he said, "You smell amazing" and has complimented me every time I have worn it since. I am so happy that this one now works for me as I have several of Ms. Taylor's perfumes in my collection and this one was the lone outlier.

meg0825

Oh yeah, this is good stuff! This fragrance is right up my alley. Warm spices, rich honey, soft leather, and smoldering incense. Incredibly sexy and luxurious. This is such a superb quality fragrance for being so inexpensive. Love this purple beauty!

Maya.ArroyoBurton

I remember when I got this as a gift when I was sixteen.... OMG it did NOT go well with my skin. Honestly I didn't even like it from sniffing the cap either... I want to retry this because I feel it would definitely be as beautiful as everyone describes here.

pinnock22

I only have a tiny bottle that came in a collection of mini's along with White Diamonds, Giorgio Beverly Hills and Red Door. This stuff is beautiful and I only need to use a few little dabs for it to last all day. I'm only 21 so this is way out of my typical 'age range' for a perfume, however this stuff Is too good to pass up on.
The incense is the main smell to my nose and its closely followed by leather and a buttery Tuberose. Makes me feel like I should be walking around the American Horror Story series Coven, wearing a black fur coat hanging around with witches!
I love this stuff.

cumulnimbus

I'm not ashamed to admit I love Passion in winter evenings. It lifts my mood when the days are short, shady and cold. Makes me reject my body's temptations to hibernate, motivates me to put on a warm coat and an extravagant retro beret and go for a drink with a good old friend for the simple and irreplaceable joy of sharing our melancholia. It makes me wish I had a vintage fur coat to bring it along and wrap myself inside of it.

Konga5000

Vintage only. The current formulation smells absolutely disgusting . Shame shame shame.....

Phantomias

What an odd fragrance this is! I'm not sure what I expected from an Elizabeth Taylor frag, but the flowery sweetness of Passion wasn't it.
This is a cheapie, but it's really nice. Usually I don't care for celeb frags but the scent is surprisingly good.
Passion may not cost much, but it doesn't smell cheap. I don't get anything passionate from it, it's rather cheerfully light and pleasant on my skin. The fragrance opens with florals, and there's a deep sweetness too. A little spice, a bit of darkish honey.
Like I said, it's a surprising scent. Elizabeth Taylor did good with this one!

mykabering

Sexy as hell. Passion comes out of the bottle roaring, but give it 30 minutes to settle down and it is so beautiful. Animilic, smokey, and leathery, with honey and incense to sweeten. I only have the pure parfum and vintage edt, which I think tend to be sweeter and smoother than the modern edt. My husband really likes this on me, and I am looking forward to seeing how it works in colder weather - particularly when worn with my favorite badass leather jacket.

LuckyNLove

Hmmm... Mix Sung with Opium?
I love the spice and incense
but the white florals sweeten it
just a tad too much.
Likable, though.
Nice strong cheapie.

I'm very new to this site and am so glad I found it. I was looking for the original Avon Imari and happened upon a thread where people were discussing it. I clicked around and realized that this site is full of everything I ever needed to know about fragrance! Anywho, onto the lovely gem that is Passion by Elizabeth Taylor.

I have been reading up a lot on Elizabeth Taylor's fragrances. I'm one of those women whose skin reacts well with scents that have been labeled by society as "mature", although I'm just in my early 30s. For some reason my skin reacts well to the "old lady" perfumes like Cabotine de Gras and Givenchy Organza. They don't smell at all how they smell in the bottle, on my skin. My body chemistry does horribly with fruity or citrus scents, which seems to be all that's current. After reading about Passion, I decided to give it a test. I know it came out decades ago, but I was far too young to wear such a scent.

After spraying some on my wrist, I was bombarded with spicy and powerful incense that then turned into a something that smelled like vanilla and plums on my skin! I also sprayed White Diamonds on my other wrist, which smelled good, but I was allured by Passion. I decided to buy it and was in luck because it was selling at a local retailer for just $14.99 (2.5oz). This scent is too potent and not fit for the summer months, but when winter comes along, I can't wait to give this a run. I can picture it now -- wrapped up in a black turtle necks with black knee boots and a cozy scarf as Passion flutters behind me in the cool wintry breeze. Lovely!

Update: After having this on for an hour, I started to feel nauseous. I don't think I can tolerate powdery and musky scents. Its a shame because I loved this even after 20 mins. But I just cant tolerate the scent for too long.

Sabretoothkitten

Just musing on this one... I thought didn't like it from years ago, but my 12 year old loves many older classic perfumes and sprayed this one and some got on my arm. I like the incense from the bottle but there's some weird aromatic green note that hits you bitterly right up in initial spray, maybe oakmoss or artemisia. I'm not digging that stage, but the drydown is very intriguing. Insence, powder, cover vague indolic flowers. I can't believe it but I might wear this in deep winter. I totally see this as an opulent over the top 80s scent but that could be fun sonetimes.I guess my taste has changed enough to appreciate this one from Liz.

I do think this could be unisex, absolutely.
I'm glad my son is more eclectic than me .

DamienThorsson

The eau de toilette of Passion is a very animalic oriental with strong emphasis on the civet. The pure parfum is a scent that sits close to the skin, starring mostly vanilla and incense. I think the modern parfum is a very good representative of the vintage perfume, but just a bit weaker. A little bit dusty, but very sensual.

cocolover56

Review singularly for the Eau de Toilette, as I find the parfum to be quite weak (at least the modern one)

Passion is skanky. I dislike that word quite a bit, but I can't really find another word. To say that it simply has civet doesn't really seem to do this dark, evocotive juice any justice. I purchased this after trying, and not minding, the eau de cologne for men. I'm glad that I didn't judge the women's version based solely on the cologne because this is just stunning.

It's a smokey, animalic creten of a perfume for only those who are brave enough to don something from a bygone era. Something for those with cojones. Something for those who know how to take on the night.

Fragrantguy

This fragrance reminds me a lot of my grandmother. However, I don’t think she ever owned this fragrance. It is definitely an 80s scent. Very powdery, dark floral, and glamorous. I don’t get why people seem to think it is unisex, I sprayed this and was overwhelmed by how feminine it smelled. Don’t get me wrong, by today’s standards it probably would be considered unisex, considering a lot of modern men’s fragrances now are floral-based and somewhat unisex themselves (Dior homme, Givenchy Gentleman, etc.) but I definitely see this as a strictly female scent from the 80s. I own the men’s version as well and I absolutely love it. It is more masculine but does have a dark sweet undertone to it. This one I guess could be considered the same but it has more feminine and somewhat Gothic undertones. It is not a bad fragrance, it smells dated but I’m OK with that. I like a lot of fragrances that smell like the time period that came out in. All in all this fragrance reminds me of a glamorous older woman.
EDIT: Ended up giving this to my mother. To feminine for me, but she absolutely loves it.

There is really no other scent in the world that can transport me back to my adolescence quite like Passion. It’s a hard fragrance to describe, because it’s jammed full of unusual notes like black currant and artemisia, yet ends up feeling rather subdued, almost like the scent of skin on sheets... that had a good time last night :) : it starts like an oriental, finishes like a chypre, and gives the overall impression of softly smoldering incense in a dusty bookshop. If that sounds off-putting, then I’ve done a bad job of describing Passion because it really is very nice.

The reason this scent transports me is that I was raised by a single working mom who was very happy that Liz Taylor came out with a sophisticated but affordable fragrance that included really nice body care products. My mom could own the whole line without breaking the bank, and the scent really fit her artsy/funky aesthetic (huge earrings, tribal prints and Doc Martens). The packaging was kind of gloriously tacky with all those purple diamonds and Art Deco touches. At the time I wouldn’t have felt comfortable wearing Passion myself— but it was the clean, comforting smell of my mom with her affordable “Body Riches” on the nightstand.

Now that I’m in my 40s I appreciate and wear this fragrance, too. I get lots of compliments on its subtle, spicy, powdery aura. The current formulation in stores is pretty bad compared to the 1987 debut formula— luckily the dark glass bottles have perfectly preserved this fragrance over the years, and vintage is available for cheap on eBay! (Vintage bottles have a gold diamond shape on the bottle and a purple “gemstone” on the cap.)

Now, this is what I call a REAL perfume.
Saw it.
Tested it.
Bought it.
Love it.

There are many fragrances that I can "use up" just so I do not waste them...but this Passion is (to me) beyond awful. It is brash, strong, cloying and the scent is terrible for me! The aldehydes opening is an assault on my sinuses, and then I am left with a very strong 1980s hairspray-alcohol scent, and then musty, woody florals take over. The scent LASTS! L A S T S! I always joke (kind of), that only the fragrances you hate last ALL day. This Passion lasts all day :-O My family told me to wash this off! I almost never do this, but I threw the bottle away!!

Hi! I'm one of those female 20-somethings who appreciates a great powerhouse from another era. Just bought a 75ml EdT online, and I gotta say, it's absolutely stunning! From some other reviews and blogs I've read, I thought there would be a lot more florals in here, but on my skin it's pure incense, smoke, beautiful woods, leather, and a bit of powder. This beauty sure packs a punch, and it lasts for a very long time. My hubby could still detect it on my décolletage 8 hours later! I love the leathery, suede-like, smooth feel of this with no jagged edges. It's robust and round. This would be perfect to wear when I perform a rock'n roll set. I can't believe the price, this should have a way higher price tag IMO. For anyone into orientals, you gotta give this one a shot. Just buy it blind I say! The bottle is awesome too!

P.S. I usually steer clear of all celebrity frags, but this one is the exception!

To the other female 20 somethings that may be reading; this is a scent that you may like if you are already into more old-fashioned scents such as Tabu, Chantilly, Emeraude, etc. This is nothing like all of the light, sweet, or fresh scents that we are all "supposed" to like. It opens with a mossy, dry brightness that, on the very first sniff, reminded me of by mother's favorite 80's style hairspray. But if you let it sit on your skin and morph through its journey to the dry down, this scent is incredible. It is very rich in a slightly powdery way. Its sweetness is that of rich frankincense oil, not fresh fruit or caramel. There is an odd, almost savory note in the heart that reminds me of warming milk on the stove to make hot chocolate-I imagine that is some combination of the honey and civet. The dry down is a divine blend that is rich, powdery, vanillic, still sweet and just makes you want to snuggle in. I would recommend this to people who are looking for something very unusual, but still quite inexpensive and easy to find. It is rather unisex as well, once the hairspray opening dissipates a bit. If you like leather, civet, honey, and old-fashioned oriental scents, give this one a try--online you don't have to pay over $25 for a glimpse into a totally out-there style of scent.
I already know what I'm asking for this Christmas--the set that includes EDT, a little vial of EDP and a body lotion. It's that good.
Edit: Be careful where you spray this, as the liquid itself is tinted violet. I'm not sure what it would do to a white shirt.

Elizabeth Taylor Passion was the very first luxury perfume I bought for my Mom for Mother’s Day back in 1988. When this perfume was first released, it was quite pricey... I was still a teenager, so I had to save up money to get this perfume for my Mom so this perfume has special meaning to me. The scent is bold but soft, elegant yet sultry and full of mysterious oriental fantasy.

Fast forward till today in 2018, I still love this perfume! So I went to the store and try to get another bottle for my mom, but now it is only available in eau de toilette. When I was smelling the tester I accidentally spray some onto my wrist, couple hours went by I’ve realized that this perfume actually smells really good on me! And smells pretty similar to some of the cologne I wear daily; such as Tom Ford Black Orchid, Creed Royal Oud, Penhaligon Endymion & As Sawira …etc. I know this perfume is marketed to be a women’s perfume, but in my humble opinion; I think men can wear it, too! I highly recommend men to give it a try on their wrist, let the scent dry down for about 30 min to 1 hour and you’ll discover the magic of this perfume on you, yes you! Men !

Lilacs&Lavender

Be warned. Wear Passion and expect to suddenly have the feral urge to hunt down your mate and drag them back to your lair.

No wonder Liz Taylor had seven husbands and she caught one of them again and had him for seconds.

I have a luscious vintage EDP and a newer EDT and I just love both...what a gem. I love Elizabeth Taylor and her fragrances, what quality stuff this is. I've been obsessed with Passion for over a week now and can't decide which formulation I like more, I highly recommend both vintage and current.

Vintage EDP of course is stronger and more syrupy.. it is dirty, thick and sweet. A scent to be noticed. The newer EDT formula is more incense and smoky with a bit of animalic; you can definitely tell that Ms Taylor loved BaV. The EDT is quieter but still lasts all day and leaves a lovely sweetness on the skin in its drydown.

I agree with the reviewer below that said this is a purple fragrance! Purple and deep and dark! Purple like Poison although they smell nothing alike to me, they do share a similar witchy vibe.

Sooo happy to have Passion in my collection! Another great blind buy!

weegee

Sweet incense and soft, fluffy powder & LOTS of both, in a very, VERY good way.

Enthralled by our Marlen's description when his Gender Bender article first appeared I ordered a partial 50ml bottle of the original/vintage formula. Arriving on a cold, snowy day, with about 75% remaining, the eau de toilette formula stunned me with its extrait strength and formidable longevity.

Unlike Violet Eyes which has no violet whatsoever, Passion somehow truly does smell purple. Stained glass window purple. Velvet purple. Thick yet clean, smooth, mysterious and lush. With an astonishing blend of florals, spices and resins, to my nose Passion rises to the definition of an elixir. The blend erases the identity of its individual notes and becomes something uniquely Itself, and that self is stunning.

I wore Passion to work the night it arrived and my assignment that shift had me moving around my department and the whole building, a very large Amazon return center. Despite just 4 sprays (neck, wrists and the front of my t-shirt) I could pick up my OWN scent trail as I moved about. Compliments galore from both men and women. Several coworkers in their 20's did say I smelled like their grand mom but quickly added that I didn't smell old. The words they used were warm, friendly, comforting and familiar.

I wore Passion to work again last night with identical results.

Although I can't speak for the current formulation I can say the vintage is a solid win! (Go for the bottle with the metal golden diamond on the bottle.)

-----------------------------------------------------------
So;
last night I was in "one of those moods" and just lazily skulking around T.J. MishMosh...haplessly and hopelessly ...

The shelf in the "beauty" isle was strewn with opened wreckage and man-handled bottles and I saw Elizabeth Taylor's debut fragrance and gave myself a few squirts.....

(I had owned this about 5 years ago and completely forgot how lightly complex it was and how STRONG it was for a "celeb scent". EVEN IN THE CURRENT truncated & reductive version!)

It goes into a "dark fun place" that may have you thinking about Elvira or Vampira or Lily Munster as a grandmother ; but if you flick your switch -- this can come off as a "smokey niche" type thing!

It was cold out (still winter here) and I cracked my car window open and E.T. Passion was really working it on the ride home!
I got a solid 3 or 4 hours out of it at full strength. (This works better on clothes than on skin; Better in cold than damp heat of course).

A solid $12.99 spent on an old friend that now has me scouring eBay for a "vintage" bottle perhaps!
(I quit smoking cigarettes years ago however I did think this was one scent that would go fabulously well with cigarette smoke & a leather jacket !)

Took me five years to reach for this fragrance.

Passion is a masterpiece indeed. It is not, what I have imagined, but it is better, than I have thought.

Better blended, more smooth and easy to enjoy really, if your nose is trained in vintages, niche, attars and if you never was floral-ozonic fragrances fan.

Passion is warm fragrance, very much similar with Bal A Versailles indeed, also with some old versions of Dana Tabu. It is like mature wine, great for those, who appreciate the richness of nuances in seemingly straight-forward composition. Honey here is more of beeswax, civet is sweet and tamed, like in named above fragrances, I do not see it as incensy, as other reviewers do, for it too harmonious to be too much of anything, really. Right word for it would be "magical" and timeless.

cocolover56

At the start, it smells like carnation and nothing but. When it calms down, it takes on a sweet incense and tuberose with some soft spices and civet. I can understand the comparisons to Poison, although I'd never make them myself. Conceptually and smell wise, they're quite different. Overall mood set out by them is very much the same, though.

A bit sexy, but very very strong.

the purple rose

Passion is a very sexy, spicy and strong fragrance.I use one spray only and that lasts all day.Great value.I really love the musky, powdery and spice scent that Passion has and the longer you wear it the nicer it becomes.Another winner from Elizabeth Taylor.Rating 10/10.

Mrs. ELE Arjona

Ok folks lets talk about Passion. I held off on reviewing this one, because lets face it...I have to wear the stuff to give it an honest tell. I'm trying to get through all the ET fragrances before I venture off on reviewing other scents, so I forced myself to wear this power house. My Husband is not home, and I can tell you if I just spray this and ask him what he thinks he's gonna give me a nose wrinkle. Ill update my review later so see what he says when I hug him at the end of the day and this sucker has dried down to its base.

If you are under 30, and you want to try this, hold on for dear life after you first spray. Your senses will be assaulted. You more than likely will not like it and quite possibly may run for the shower. On the top it reminds me of spraying my Grandmothers perfumes she had hanging around the house. My Paternal Grandmother was born in 1908, and most of that stuff was probably old AVON, and I was born in 1981. So I think its aldehydes, civet and lots of notes that need to bloom that you smell at first. Comes off more as a Men's Cologne, and if my Husband would be willing Id love to spray this on him and get him to wear it all day.

After about 5 minutes it smells really good. Oriental yumminess. Its less masculine and some of the florals and sweetness start to come through to give it a femme vibe. It continues to morph all day, at the end its a beautiful incense. Not my typical go to personal smell, but if I'm in the right mood I can definitely wear this. I think sometimes woman who have worn this for years might overspray it, so keep an open mind while testing because you have smelled this on someone before. Its old school, its 80's, its over the top, its rich.

To me I definitely feel sexy, feel sensuality, feel lust whilst wearing this. I think its unisex as it was meant to give you the lingering scent of a hetero sensual encounter long after. Hence such masculine notes in a woman's fragrance. Ms. Taylor was a sensual person, had been loved and in love many times in her life. She put not only herself into this scent, but her Beau's and Husbands as well. She gifted us Romance in a smoky purple bottle.

If you ever rolled over and smelled your Partners pillow, or put on his T-shirt when he wasn't around, this is for you. If you think this smells Grandma, well just remember she was young and fun and had Romance once upon a time. Spray it on your skin, let the notes tell you a Romantic tale through out the day. This has been so popular and stood the test of time for that reason, it is love, lust and romance in a bottle. Sneak a spray from Mom or Grandma, or a tester while out because its in the stores and you may find you want a bottle all for yourself!

***UPDATE*** I used the body shop coconut butter and Victoria Secrets Amber Romace Body Spray as a base layer. I sprayed one spritz of Passion on each inner forearm and one spray low on my chest before getting dressed. Husband gave it a 7/10 when he hugged me tonight. Was surprised I was wearing the bomb in the smoky purple bottle. I really enjoyed wearing this today. Highly recommend giving this a shot!

Lillaja

Interesting and not unpleasant but like several of the ET fragrances not very wearable in public. Like someone said, however, this fragrance would work well with a leather jacket.

Kimmychoo 01

weird , im not liking it in general .. but i keep feeling complelled to sniff my wrist .
Musk is over whelming .. and its too vintagy smelling for me .
Think it is a dislike ..

AaronStar

Just bought it, seems like it will be a perfect, bold note and breath of passion. It has all marks of a great, bold perfume, the civet, the incense, the leather, the musk, the white flowers, the spices and green notes. I'm surprised men do not buy this more. Besides Kuoros not many perfumes have three sexy notes as leather, civet and musk together.
Straight away I get the sandalwood, incense and leather, and that civet too.
Its musky, leathery, and dreamy, it should be considered a unisex fragrance and not just female. Images of Liz Taylor quickly came to mind, her elegant, chic lifestyle, makeup, and handbags, but mostly the sexy, wild, men she must have had. It's very European, very masculine, like a vintage collectible, I love it. It smells like a sexy man in a leather jacket, it is not a girly, woman perfume at all..it screams I sleep with many men and I am drenched in their musk. It is very masculine...
But I also felt a nasty, disgusting, pungent dog thing going on, must be the civet and spices, oh my, I need to sleep on it.

Its disgusting and I think I like it....its sexy, dirty, animal musk. Perfect for sexual fantasies, animal desires, men, leather, sex. It's absolutely perfect for layering with flower notes. I don't sense more than the incense, the sandalwood, the musk, the leather. This could very well be a male fragrance, for certain. Don't overspray, be careful, I can still smell it after a cold bath, it's strong stuff.
I'm surprised it's not considered to be unisex, surprised it's not in the animalic, leather group before anything. Love this potent, animal sex musk, this leathery, raunchy,sex- musk. It's no wonder its called ''Passion''.
The incense and sandalwood draw in the spiritual side to this sexual fantasy.
This perfume is very much pheromone-like, as I'm learning, like a mating, I'm in heat, come here and mate with me, vibe, it's from the civet, I suppose, first time I've experienced this.

This is one addicting scent! I love the floral/ musky/ oriental blends. I picture wearing this with pearls, silver heels and a slinky purple evening gown, flute of expensive champagne in hand. And an evening of sensual delights to follow. ;-)

FunkyTomo

I've had this on my want/test list for a long time. Found a mini at a good price on my local flea market. (which is great for vintage fumes). Having read lots of reviews that liken it to Poison,I thought this was a dead cert for a "love". Unfortunately I don't like it at all.

Reviewer mschnabel666 hits the nail on the head "a mix of bal a versaille and poison" - Yes!! As I love both those frags, I'm disappointed that passion hasn't worked with skin. The aldehydes and civit are all I can smell for the first hour. This combo just doesn't work for me. These particular aldehydes are nose burning strong!! civet is another note that I have problems with. After that hour has passed I can discern other notes and the "poison" like woody/dark fruit vibe comes through. This I like,.but my skin is still amping up the aldehydes/civet to the max..........

I couldn't wear this, shame as I adore the big seductive vintage scents. I can see it being amazing on someone else with the right chemistry.

Ps - the review by "gigi the fashionista" is a very informative and enjoyable read.

I would say to anyone "do try it" as it is a very interesting perfume with lots of depth. Also can be found at bargain prices, and the sillage and longevity are epic!!

A nearly full mini is up for swap. Offer me your unwanted mini if your in the UK!! :)
