I love this, so much better than the EDt. That one goes super rubbery on my skin and it’s too sugary . This one is more smooth, the peppy w vetiver gives it a smooth smokiness but it’s subtle , with a sweet raspberry and soft floral. Everything it’s just more balanced than EDT.

Saveria

I have already given my opinion for the edt but as I said then, the two are totally different to my nose.

Here, the spices completely take over the rest and I no longer smell raspberries at all. More of a peppery, amber, woody smell. It's a very nice oriental even if the peppery note is a bit too strong for my taste (so I prefer the edt).

Very underrated in my opinion, I love this perfume! Sadly, I recently realized that Givenchy had standardized some of its bottles... So exit the magnificent Hot Couture bottle and hello to the soulless one...

lmnsvgz

Peppery raspberry. Not too sweet and very modern-smelling. I am surprised it was released that early - it could pass for a modern release

VirgowithLeo

The EDP opens w raspberry nice scent
Kind of like Beyond Romance
And then soon enough pure cigarette scent

So Replica by The fireplace smells like smoke but not cigarette just to give an idea

This one makes me smell like my dad after he smokes (used to)

Ahhh blind buy fail

I am sorry but this does not smell sexy lol
I blind bought it after all the hype from Ksenja

I will post it under the EDP too but posting here as well because the link of this perfume on fragrancenet takes me to EDP one

tested Hot Couture based on rave reviews I've seen online and was horrified by how sorely it lacks any semblance of elegance.

it's like a pre-teen girl spraying themself with a fruity, sweet, chemically air freshener. the scent gets smokier and far less offensive on drydown, but even then there's a lingering undercurrent of cheap plastic fruit. I'd still consider (as an experiment) layering this with a fragrance that needs a little extra pop of brightness?

Salkavalka

Oh no no no no no. I had the original Hot Couture Collection no 1 (the bottle with a picture of a lady), and to put it shortly, it was one of the most unique, artistic and downright beautiful scents I have ever come accross. Then I accidentally smashed my bottle 😞 and was devastated, but hurried to replace it by ordering the current version of Hot Couture. Not the bottle in the Fragrantica picture but a later one, with very simple, shorter and stouter bottle. It arrived today. 😖
Oh no! What IS this c**p that is being sold under the name "Hot Couture"? It has very little in common with the scent I had! I mean...For once, I'm speechless.

Ayregsh

I just got a sample of this and I hated it. The opening is raspberry sweet and i liked it but the dry down gave me this rum kind of scent and i don't know, i just can't like it. I read so many good reviews and hoped to like it but no, also it smells like too mature for me and I'm near my 30's

Amuret

My first true love.
My signature scent before I ever heard of the concept.
My first compliment getter/what are you wearing?.
My first ‘grown up’ purchase in my early 20’s that has followed me into my 40’s.
My all seasons and all occasions perfume.

As you may have guessed my love affair with Hot Couture runs deep, and has lasted several decades. I have never really forgiven Givenchy for discontinuing/rebranding, but I have several original bottles squirrelled away. I may even try the new rebranded EDP version.

Interestingly I never detected the cigarette smoke, but then again I was a smoker.

jadepo21

I like this take on a fruity scent. The spice prevents it from being too sweet, and it ends up feeling grown and sexy. It's a cool girl scent for sure. I get none of the smoke some people smell in it, just a warm depth behind a fruity opening. Very nice and quite wearable.

artpopmixer

This is a lovely combination of smokey raspberry and leather. It makes a nice scent cloud around you and it’s not over powering but the trail it leaves is delicious.
This perfume does a good job of mixing modern with the classics due to its powderyness, it’s the perfect fragrance for someone of my age in their middle to late twenties who don’t want to smell orange blossom bubblegum which all the houses seem to be flooding the market with lately.
The lasting power is great too I sprayed it on my sweater and a week later I got it back out and it still had a lovely incense raspberry aroma.
I can definitely see it becoming a signature of mine this year.

cflatorrev

She is pretty, she is unique and she is elegant. Good perfume. I smelled it for the first time when I was a child on my auntie. Love it since then. Still love it. Strong and everyone KNOWS that you are in a room 🤣

celi

Well, this is an interesting one. This fragrance is the opposite of generic, now that I have smelled it once I will be able to recognize it everywhere and say "It is hot couture". I also don' t think it can suit everyone.
It is strong on pepper and raspberry with an hint of citruses initially, spicy, pungent and soapy all at once. In the drydown the raspberry is still there but the fragrance smells "smoky" and slightly leathery. It can remind a little of the way clothes smell after spendig a fun night out next to people who smoke cigarettes: I don' t know if this comes from the association between the vetiver and the raspeberry or from notes that are not listed. Hot Couture has a rock, jaunty, bold vibe. But it is also playful, It doesn't smell mature to me. It is a cool fragrance, I would not probably wear this but I can see how it could be a signature for someone else.

Staysmellinggood

This fragrance came out when I was in high school. Loved it then and now. It's great for layering. I wish the raspberry note lasted longer.

pinkfairygumdrop

this is still one of the best smelling yet somehow reasonably priced perfumes, but the last few months I noticed the 3.3 original packaging ones are getting harder to find under $60 now. and its been climbing steadily. Honestly for how this smells + being under $100 its fantastic. it smells way more expensive than what u can buy it for
opens with a blast of bergamot + raspberry, lots of pink pepper in there too, its very elegant smelling
I have been wearing this since my 20's and I am almost 40 now!!
and tbh it still smells incredible
one of Givenchy's best IMO
This one is a classic to me and can u believe I have 6 back-up bottles of this stuff!!!
it smells expensive & classy yet u can get it for bargain price
I will love this one FOREVER <3

My relationship to Hot Couture by Givenchy is decades long: it was my very first perfume and signature scent from the time I was 14. A popular girl in middle school wore it and I adopted it quickly. For a teenager, it's a bold choice: the scent definitely feels mature. It's not sticky/sweet/fruity like the B&BW or VS lotions most girls my age wore. My first bottle was the vintage one and sometime in high school it had switched to the one pictured here. The OG bottle was much more powdery, but after that, the raspberry, vetiver, and amber notes were most prominent for me. It starts out bright and raspberry forward, then develops into this mysterious sexy scent cloud. In college, it was famously my distinct signature scent. I stopped wearing it in the early 2010s, but I recently got this bottle again, mostly for sentimental reasons :)

mirrorghost

i have a vintage mini bottle of this one. i get a lot of raspberry and vetiver with a hint of pepper and amber i think. this is the kind of fruity perfume i can handle. it's not too sweet and the raspberry is more realistic. something goes leathery in this and i love that. wow, i wasn't sure what to expect but i am really intrigued by this. i really love a lot of alberto morillas' work, and this one is great. the smokiness here makes it. if it was absent, this wouldn't be as lovely as it is.

WifeyPink

This was a total FOMO buy after I saw the new repackaged bottles. I wish I got the tobacco note unfortunately my nose just can't get over the black pepper. I really dislike black pepper in fragrance it ruins it for me and becomes the most prominent note my nose picks up. I get nothing but black pepper & a tiny hint of sweetness in the background.

Suzabelle6

I was on the fence about this one for such a long time. So many reviews I'd read described it as "smokey" or like an ashtray scent.

I get none of that. On my skin, I'm getting raspberry and magnolia with a warm and comforting base. Something about this is nostalgic for me. It's beautiful, and quite unique compared with anything else in my current collection. It's beautiful and very seductive without wing overpowering.

JetsBabe

Smells like gasoline and raspberry

mikemuscles21

People are going to be so pissed that both Hot Coutures are discontinued now. BUY THEM IF YOU CAN! IF YOU SEE THEM AND YOU WANT THEM, BUY THEM!

Thank goodness Givenchy's new releases are so beautiful! But loyal fans of the classics will be frustrated

FrkFors

This has a very thick feel, juicy and very sweet. Spicy kind of like fresh tobacco/cigar. Smoky raspberry syrup. A lot of warm amber too.
I have never smelled anything else like it! It's not a fresh, light or delicate perfume. It's bold and thick. Perfect for colder weather, date nights and parties.

Ms._45

Wow, I’ve just received it. I bought the new modern version because I have the vintage EDT … I didn’t initially like the vintage EDT, it is very fruity & reminds me of the time period 00s, but it grew on me … This new EDP is quite different from that EDT. It’s less raspberry on me anyway, strong animalic spices & smoky tobacco note, almost smells like an underlying civet note. But I get wafts of raspberry sweetness in the air, which I’m liking …

It smells much more sophisticated & complex than the vintage EDT, so I like that. I think this is pretty stunning for fall & winter. But can also be worn now, late summer, playing with heat, I think.

I’m trying to determine if this is what I want to wear for my date tomorrow night with like a vintage late 90s club fashion look which I bought this for. 😛 I think so. I’m not sure if the smoky note is too strong in this heat or doesn’t smell “pretty” enough.

I think this is good for every season except maybe spring. & best for evenings. I wanted a lingerie / date perfume. So this might be my fall winter go-to for that … will update as wear longer.

bergamot81

This has been my signature scent for the last few years. Absolutely love the bold, juicy scent. It was fresh and grown-up for the working day, and vibrant and sexy for a night out - the perfect all rounder. That said, I've just bought my first bottle in the new packaging and I swear it smells different. I used to get lingering peppery-citrussy raspberry and now it settles very quickly into the dusty ashtray smell referenced in others' reviews. The sillage is also awful. Givenchy's marketing says they've changed the bottle, not the formula... but I'm not convinced.

ponderbread

I can't even pretend to have an unbiased view of Hot Couture because this was my mom's signature scent for my middle and high school years, so for me it's a very comforting scent. Which makes all the reviews below pretty hilariously uncomfortable to read, lol. 🙃

Hannehoney

Yes! This is what Im looking for in a fall/winter scent. Many people say they are tired of all perfumes smell the same, rose/vanilla/white florals...This one is different. This is a smoky, spicy raspberry scent. It came out in 2000 (I owned a bottle) but I dont think it smells dated or vintage, I think it smells modern. Hot Couture deserves more talk. Perfect for colder months. Very sexy. Love it :)

pinkfairygumdrop

this fragrance is so sexy yet so underrated. IMO I dont think there is anything else really like this one. I have sooo many amazing frags on my shelf but find myself reaching for this one more. it's a sweet yet sultry smoky raspberry. I dont get much bergamot or orange in the opening. definitely get peppery but I absolutely adore it
guaranteed if this was in PDM packaging or Roja no one would bat an eye at paying $300 for it.
it smells sweet, trashy, sexy & smoky all the same time.
I have 4 (yes, four) back-up bottles of this stuff and I will always have this in my collection. This one will always have a special place in my heart & on my shelf!!

Vainillalover

I can imagine this perfume was really good performance and sillage years ago i bought one and I like the smell but doesn’t stay in my skin Or in my clothes even 1 hour.

Fatima1219

I received this as a gift many, many years ago. I tried to like it, but every time I used it-- it smelled of burnt, raspberry plastic. No lie...this fragrance has set in my collection, untouched, for at least five years--possibly a lot longer! There is a You Tuber, whose opinion I respect, who absolutely raves about Hot Couture. I decided to wear it today. Right away, my nose picked up a pungent, cloying raspberry. Next, my nose was attacked by the smell of burning, melting plastic. Also, even though rose is not listed as a note, my nose picks up a very nice rose. The rose, coupled by a lovely musk, is actually what boosts this fragrance to a very mediocre 'ok' rating. The other notes listed above, are not detected by my nose at all. Hot Couture has a dusty, powdery, animalic opening--with a very similar musky dry down. It smells quite sensual, almost erotic, but not in a good way. The longevity and silage are great with this fragrance, but it is not a safe blind buy!

selinacat

I've nearly used up a 100ml bottle of this. I'm 36, and I'm struggling to finish it. Basically, this gives me the same sickly sour rasberry vibes as Raspberry Absolut vodka. I can't wear this in anything other than the fall and winter or the raspberry makes me nauseous.

I'm someone who loves beast scents, so thats just a whole weird thing in itself. Unless you know you love raspberry, don't blind buy.

lynne2

Old but gold. I can not imagine any other perfume like Hot Couture. Opens up with glass of champagne, citrus zest and raspberry floating in the sparkling drink. The time goes by and that thin bitter ashtray smoke elevates all composition to some niche level. This is perfume for young adult growing out of the body spray era and looking for more adult 'fruit' version.

sarahmarah

To the few people calling this perfume ‘trashy’—Sounds like you got hangups lol

This perfume isn’t for everybody obviously.

I love it but a little goes a long way.
It’s loungey with sweet tobacco smoke and a bite of good liquor.

amg7613

I’m going to piggyback off some reviews referencing the early 2000s because that was my jam.

I was such a fun and free party girl in the year 2000 when this perfume came out. I was working at Olive Garden, tanning, smoking, and living with my parents. Granted I was a hot mess and lacked the judgement needed to be a full functioning adult (I was 18/19), but we’ll just keep that to ourselves. Lol omg. Perfect for Hot Couture.

If I had known this perfume had come out, I would have bathed in this rather than Love Spell. A light peppery raspberry pop, it screams Y2K. I didn’t wear much perfume yet. There is a touch of cigarette smoke that you’d find in my 1996 Dodge Neon. A time warp in a bottle.

I’m glad I only have an 8 mL sample as now I’m a judgy spinster with a retirement plan, but the glory days can live on!

HeavyBeatsUK

This was the first sickly sweet perfume I noticed before they all started coming out - Le Vie Est Belle etc.

I had never “hated” a fragrance before I smelled this - but this was my first “hate.”

Hot Couture was followed by a few similar sickly sweets at first such as Gloria and Amor Amor by Cacherel but then a flurry of generic sickly sweets clones of each other - mostly celebrity scents - came out in the latter part of the 2000s.

Kerigan

In essence this smells like big sunglasses, spray tans, bubblegum, a pack of cigarettes in the pocket of low rise jeans.

All I really get from this is raspberry and smoke. I love to smell it, but it’s not an easy reach for me. This is a skanky raunchy sexy type of perfume, not for everyday. This is reserved for sweaty nights at the club only.

PattyLovesScents

A beautiful scent for going out to the clubs or dressed nice for a date....BUT BE WARNED.....over-spray it even one time and the cigarette dirty ash tray smell will find your nose and then you will NEVER be able to NOT smell that dirty ash tray smell ever again. I wore this fragrance for years. I loved the sweet raspberries. They are almost sticky like a sticky raspberry candy. It is just heaven with the sticky raspberry candy and amber/vanilla scent...............That is until you over spray it ONE time............Then you will find that ashy tray. Like being in a heavily smoked in casino. I got just a little to excited one night, went in for like 4 sprays.................BLAM there it was. The mystery everyone eventually uncovers. Dirty smokey vibes. Not sweet like burning wood, but dirty ashy tray. A sweet cigars and several cigarette butts in an ashtray. I could never shake that scent once I over-sprayed Hot Couture and have never been able to use this scent since.

PS: this review if for the older version. I have not smelled the version in the new bottles. I got my last bottle in 2021 when it was still the older bottle.

sibaraa

a very nice spicy smokey berry fragrance

Dawnya7b

Gorgeous! Just gorgeous! I got the new bottle and as far as I heard it’s just a new bottle same formula. Someone tell me this is true! I really don’t want to hunt down an older bottle.

carla.c1

The femme fatale, the mysterious, the sensual and alluring.

I've been wearing this perfume since I was a teenager. I would wear this for school, when I was about 13. Now, be aware that this is a very sensual perfume - strong, addictive, not appropriate for school, specially during the morning - I did not know any better back then, but then again, I would wear Poision, Angel, and all of the bombs! However, this was a magnet. Everyone loved this sweet, mysterious scent. In my classroom, they could smell me even before I got in -- it was at its first release, one of the strongest perfumes.

It has lost a little bit of strength, its staying power is not the same as before, its less sweet, but still fascinating! This is an unique perfume, the very meaning of natural sensuality that is inherent in every woman. Smoky, fruity, sweet without being childish.

Playful in its own way, sensual, mysterious.

Powerpuff123

It smells okay (too much smoke and pepper for my liking) but literally fades away within 2 hours or less 😳 Could someone who got long lasting scent write the batch number or check the manufacture date?

VargaZsuzsanna

I'm on the fence with this one. There are things I like: the raspberry note that lingers from start to finish, that it lasts for days on clothing, that it is unique and I have never smellt it on anyone else, the woody drydown. But there are things I don't like about this parfume: the pepper note is so strong it practically burns my nostrils every time for a minute when I spray it on, that it smells like raspberry flavoured pipe tobacco on me that is not feminine at all. What I really love is the drydown, it is a warm woody musky heaven that just lasts and lasts as a skin scent forever. There are times I crave it, other times I simply can't stand it.

Liisa7

Sexy, charming and pretty girl vibes. I get a strong rasberry note from this and I love it. My favourite part of this fragrance is the way it lasts on clothes forever and it smells somehow even better on clothes. If a guy can smell it on your clothes, he would immediately want to cuddle with you.
I think it is suitable for both day and night wear. I wore it daily for a week and I really liked how it made me feel. It was suitable for every situation. It projects, but doesn’t suffocate people (I used 3 sprays).

MademoiselleMaya

My winter wear reveals intense woodiness of this warm creation.
Noble aspects of sandalwood enhanced by amber are kept in check by earthy vetiver.
Pepper adds spiciness and does not let the raspberry and magnolia to be anything else than warm and sweet facets enhancing the composition.
It warms up on the skin and creates an aura of pleasure radiating to arm length (up to filling a room).
It is not a fragrance to be studied closely, with your nose up you wrist. Up close it reminds me of coconut shell, funnily enough.
It is created to surround you in a refined pleasure.
Drydown is sweet, solar wood.
I might prefer the eau de toilette version for more raspberry sweetness, but this is very personal. The eau the parfume concentration is both elegant and simple creating its own undeniable charm.

Sapienta

Its incredibly spicy and sparkling. Yes, sweet and bitter and pushy. Raspberry and pepper are lead vocals...
Nineties decadence for sure. I love it!! Makes me smile!!
Sileage and longevity are incredible. It radiates all day. If you spray it on your hair or clothes, its gonna last for two days…wow!!

But don't be fooled with new version in new bottle... Its blunt and watered down. Like they pulled the beating heart of this majestic old version.

amyaz

It's not great. Sillage is poor. Longevity is awful, but in a way that's good because the scent isn't that great. It's oddly almost like pencil shavings to my nose. Sad, usually I love Givenchy but this is a pass and I'm thankful I only got a travel size.

SarabeineHoney

I’ve tried so hard to like this one but it’s just not for me. Almost full 50ml bottle available , 45 CAD

marialena888m

I had this fragrance in my 20s but always felt it was way too mature and peppery/musky for me (I felt the same way about Crystal Noir). I’m in my 30s now and I wish I had kept my bottle. There are a few fragrances that I couldn’t pull off in my 20s and even up to my early 30s, but only began to appreciate as I approached my mid 30s. This is one of them. Extremely sensual peppery, musky raspberries with room filling sillage. It fills a room without being piercing or shrieky or sharply bold, it just smells incredibly womanly with a velvety sillage. It’s not smoky to my nose, but I smell something reminiscent of unlit menthol cigarettes, and a papery note, like money. The raspberries are not syrupy, candy-ish or overly juicy but abit on the dry side, and mouth-wateringly sour-sweet. Classy, sexy, expensive smelling. I picture late 90s or 00’s era Monica Bellucci in a pink satin slip, rollers in her hair and an unlit cigarette between her lips, getting ready for a night of wining and dining with her man. You will stand out wearing this because I don’t smell it on anyone, and it’s different from the mainstream frags. It smells niche at this point. This is the scent of a woman who is fully ripe and at the peak of her sexual prime, which just so happens to be in the 30th decade. I’m not saying this scent is only for 30-somethings, it will also smell great on 40+ women, but the scent does feel like that it needs a certain degree of maturity and self-assurance to pull off convincingly, late 20s at the very least. Doesn’t matter if she’s a submissive housewife, a bigshot corporate climber, or a single woman living life by her own terms, above all that, she is that sensuous, elegant lady who is forever in love with being a woman, and she knows exactly how to use her femininity to her advantage.

Flowers bloom here

I bought a travel spray of this perfume after watching a glowing review. I'm so glad I went small because it is pretty expensive and the scent makes me a bit queasy... like raspberries, baby powder and burnt rubber. Maybe my nose is to new and untrained but now I know this perfume is not for me..
Update: the deep dry down is a super soft powder Pink scent. It gets pleasant at that point but still not for me.

BBerlin

Pleasantly surprised! I have amarige and it was too strong (I'd definitely sell it!)

This is sexy, unique and uplifting. Screams "I've got this".

Reminds me of a woman on a mission who knows what she wants, who doesn't mess around. Only regret I have is not getting a bigger bottle!

DelianaCP

This fragrance is pretty strong. It starts out very green, spicy and peppery on me. I can’t barely smell the raspberry, but I do get the smokey undertone. I prefer the dry down more that the initial spray. It’s beautiful but I don’t think it’s a “crowd pleaser” type of fragrance.

Laurus

I used to hate this one when this just came out. Now recently I purchased it again. It was hot in August when I first sprayed it 20 years later after my first try. It was soft with raspberry and sure sexy, not sharp and cloying. Now that the weather has cooled down and I sprayed it again. It really is sharp and cloying and headache inducing. There is something similar to this sharpness as Ange Ou Demon has it too. Funny how different it was in summer heat. This is definitely a fragrance to wear at summer which is strange becuase mostly I would not wear spicy fragrances in summer heat.

Karineabdel

ä sent la framboise + note poudrée ! Parfait pour l'automne

amj5991

Was super excited to try but wasn’t impressed. Selling my 3.4oz brand new bottle for $40.

Mia-Marleen

At first spray I smelt rasberries, then the pepper and vetiver came out. Yes it is a little bit smoky, but I like it. The smell is not loud, I would say, it's more a quiet one. It is not sweet like Armany Si Intense (I couldn't were that one, it was cloying) or Burberry Her (Her is much more louder and a little bit artificial), but definitely it is not fresh also. "Calm, comforting, a little bit airy and seducing" are maybe the right words to describe it.

lapine

it’s so so comforting to me, perhaps because it’s my mom’s signature scent but that can’t be all that…It’s like a fruity velvety teddy bear but in a perfume. so yum

maistylz

In a world where you can never seem to find the perfect ensemble, this dressy scent from Givenchy will be an instant hit. With notes of orange and raspberry combined with bergamot for just enough sweetness that it'll smell delightful without being too sweet or overpowering on your senses - who wouldn't want something like this?

aldinatic

This is a strong perfume for winter. Sweet and more like raspberry then anything else.. In summer maybe headace inducing...

vaiva.nenartavičiūtė

I felt in love with this fragrance. Now it’s my top 5 and I already have 2 backups of older original bottle which is so nice. They changed the bottles to new ones :( I can’t understand why, because the new ones are so ugly :(

loveleen

There's something about this fragrance that transports me right to the summers of the late 80's and early 90's. I think of barbie dolls, Malibu pink convertibles and neon orange bathing suits and triangle patterns. Yeah it has that vibe.

MariaFDilone

@MaisonHamada

I have I tried the EDT New package and I don’t know if its me but its slightly softer, Not sure! But the scent SCENT its the same! I liked the old packaging tho better

MaisonHamada

Givenchy has repackaged several of their classic perfumes (including Hot Couture, Ysatis, Amarige, and Organza). Has anyone tried the new bottle design of Hot Couture EDP? Does it smell the same as the old version or a more commercialized version of it?

mikemuscles21

I like raspberries, what can I say. This one is a very sweet, smokey raspberry. Very feminine, but smokey enough for me to wear it with my personality.

Mir5586

Agree with the comment 1 way down.
I have always wore this in warmer weather; is is LOVELY.

Ruby Galore

To me HC is much better in warmer weather, like now, around 25 degrees. It is sweeter, softer, creamier, more fruity.

Hot Couture is one of my all time favorites! To me, it's sweet, fresh, and delicious with the raspberry and bergamot, but also quite sexy, without being too dark and heavy. Many sweet frags can be kind of one note and boring, but this one has enough spice to be interesting and well balanced! I've never smelled anything quite like it, love every note and the way they play together. Fell in love with it around the time it came out, over 20 years ago, and was so happy to see it at Ulta last fall! Also very happy that it hasn't been reformulated beyond recognition, like others have been. Looking at you, Dior Addict. I've been very much enjoying wearing it again. My husband just complimented it today, too! I'm not sure where people are getting "ashtray," tbh. I don't generally care for smoke notes on me, my skin tends to amp them and I am allergic to cigarette smoke. Maybe the spices are coming off a little smoky to people? Idk, I only get the notes listed, and they are divine. It was cool to learn from another reviewer that this was Amy Winehouse's perfume! I didn't know that, but loved her and it.

Sexy ashtray!
This perfume starts extremely soapy to my nose, and kind of artificial, but the dry down is really interesting. It smells like you’ve been around cool people who smoke and wear leather jackets, very smoky and spicy from the pepper, but still sweet and sexy. To me on its own it might smell like I’ve been smoking, which I don’t do, but it’s not stinky or offensive in any way.
I see how this can take a generic smelling sweet perfume and add a sexy element to it if you layer it. It will probably add longevity too as it performs very well.

srimati

It just arrived and at first spray I thought it was kind of Meh. I just can't get over the artificial notes the modern perfumes have in them nowadays. Granted, I'm a natural perfume lover but I do love the timeless and classic fragrances probably due to their higher natural oil or resin contents, so this didn't impress me. It's ok, but the smoke note bothered me initially. The dry down was very nice, ambery, warm and spicy with hint of tobacco along with some sweetness.

Rober7a

When I first sprayed this I got a blast of sweet raspberry which I was thrilled about. But that died down quickly, and then this overpowering scent of dust came out, pure dust, or plastic. I was told to expect it to be smoky, but this is no longer smoke, wherever the smoke was coming from has completely burned out and now it's just ash, dusty ash. And it doesn't blend with the leftover sweet raspberry at all, they seem to be contrasting rather than complimenting eachother. I've checked the notes to see what is supposed to be smoky or dusty and I'm guessing it's the pepper with vetiver. Not a fan. Projection and lasting power are mid range.

Leighaaleigh

Horrible and trashy!

This is one of the worst fragrances I've encountered. I watched a YouTube review of this fragrance and thought it sounded lovely. I couldn't find it in stores so I blind bought it online.

It smells like a dirty ashtray with fake raspberries, straight up that's all I can smell. When wearing it the scent was inescapable.

It smells cheap and trashy, just so so bad. I gave it away.

helenearne

I'm conflicted about this one! On one side there's something very alluring about it, but on the other it kind of smells like pencil shavings? Or a vintage cedarwood chest! That's what I get on me, at least.
I don't get any raspberry or fruituness at all, mostly just.. dry spiced wood, which makes it a bit flat on me unfortunately.

Rozalina

Ah, the rare raspberry that doesn't smell chemical and artificial. The raspberry citrus blast in the very beginning dies down almost immediately to a mildly smoky aroma. Hot Couture gives me the feeling of ducking out of a fancy event, a wedding perhaps, while some of the people in my crew (everyone dressed to the nines and wearing their best perfumes) light up cigarettes as a light evening breeze blows past us. I don't think my skin brings out the full complexity of this fragrance based on the reviews, it's a bit one-note on me, but I appreciate the artistry and think this would be spectacular if you have the right skin chemistry.

Duft Liebe

Ahhh! A very successful blind buy today! Thank god - I love it!
The EDP starts out fruity with the rasberry and a hint of zestiness. Then there comes trough the pepper quite noticeble, but it calms down rapidly to a warm spicyness. And then I get warm vanillary smoke. Oh, this is nice. And unlike what I have in my collection.
I really didn´t expect to like it so much, as I read some reviews, which alluded to something like a leather jacket smell after a long night in a smoky bar. Now I guess I know what they meant. But there is nothing rough or dirty or smelly about it to me. I rather get the idea from my childhood of those middle aged, well groomed and perfumed women / mothers, who were smoking. So it is a sweet and interesting, even sexy and attraktive kind of scent.
I will wear this scent some days in a row, which I seldomly do, since I get bored so fast. It really is a beautiful ladyperfume, still modern (whatever that means). The only complain may be the softness. Usually I prefer strong fragrances. But it is well enough for this experience, and an excuse to overspray.
So, if you are looking for a little nice surprise - you have my recommendation.

Its Duping my Ruby Lips by Salvadore Dali or is my Salvadore Dali Ruby lips a dupe for my Givenchy Hot Couture?
Warm smoky, spicy, red fruits and anamalaic!
What's not to love. It says passion, I am passionate today, ripe, ready and expensively attained. I've actually reviewed here the small bottle of Collection Number 1. I am not seeing the difference described anywhere yet see theres a Hot Couture Eau de Parfum than can be reviewed too. I see the same notes listed for both and both are said to have been released in the year 2000, if anyone wants to message me to tell me the difference (I'm wondering formulation year differences) Anyway, I will continue to review Hot Couture CNo1 here, it's just one of the most beautiful perfumes I've ever smelled. I do like smokey, incense type vibes in a scent, oriental, floriental and fruity, so this is a bit of a dream for me. I really liked SD Ruby Lips and didn't pay for a bottle to come from far away, not knowing the production year, strength etc, so to have this masterpiece has quenched my thirst. I was sold this miniature CNo1 with a mini Ysatis and delighted with both as they are true to initial production and I actually wore Ysatis back in the day. I truly favour perfumes that lean toward the riskier side, the strange and unique, eclectic side. I favour those scents that people may say things like "dont buy as a blind buy" "for grown up women."
I really feel like I've discovered something with this scent. I may actually review this then wipe the review off fragrantica because why should I promote something I'm going to find harder and harder to buy at a sustainable price!

Mariamaija Amélie

In just one word: Alluring.
This is one classy, intriguing, SEXY perfume for a grown a** woman. So seductive. I never thought the lingering smell of ash in a scent would seduce me like this does, but well - there it is, I have been surprisingly swept away by this.
Hot Couture, is not a typical fruity scent. It is an alluring, captivating, charming, slightly fruity scent with the depth and mystifying layers of a mature woman, you would love to get to know a little better, but also know you never truly will. It leaves me wanting more.
This is not a beast scent on me, so I think I will be wearing this whenever I am in the mood for something a little different, interesting and beautiful/wonderful

Lemxx

Sexy smell and the sweetness is well made. Definitely got the smokey fruity feel in this perfume but if I have to explain it better with a theme. It could be that you’re in a cocktail bar and you’re drinking your delicious fruity cocktail while some people at the bar smoking their cigars. Imagine the atmosphere beautiful tobacco smell with some juicy fruits! Also this perfume has a naughty side. It’s seductive and playfull. Young people also can pull this off. It can be great for intimate date night or it can be better for clubbing with friends or alone as you prefer :)

Flavia22

I had a 30ml "Eisenberg I am" bottle.

I loved that scent, but it is way too expensive for what it's offering. It lasted max 2 hours on my skin with zero sillage. Very disappointing. But still, that was my signature fragrance for a while. Since I finished my bottle, I was searching for a longer lasting dupe. I finally found it.

Another gem from Givenchy. Hot Couture. Smells almost exactly like Eisenberg, slightly different in the begging, this begins like a varnish for leather, it smells literally like a leather shop, but I like it, and I think that leather shop varnish vibe is given by the pepper. After it settles, I can smell the vetiver, which along with pepper add a touch of sharpness. Raspberry is always present and I think it's the most noticeable note, as the sweetness of the fragrance comes from it.

Long lasting and very strong, way more affordable than Eisenberg.
Absolutely love it. Givenchy doesn't disappoint.

townej

After all of the reviews, I read on here raving about Givenchy and how sexy this scent is I wanted so desperately to love it myself too but after a few tests I just couldn't force it because I've always hated the smell of smoke to the point of smelling even faintly, as I did in this one, is off-putting to me. Although I can see why the mixture of sweet berries and smoke, to my underdeveloped nose, would seem sexy this just isn't my kind of sexy if you know what I mean lol.

floszra

Smoky raspberries. Not much to say, subtle, sexy and timeless. Definitely a LOVE from my side.

Perfumedsecrets

I chose the edp. I get the smoke when I put my nose on my wrist. It’s a fruity amber raspberry. Something about it is damn addictive, sexy playful, and it reminds me of the year it debuted. Like being in a club again back when you could smoke, dance, and drink. The cap is awful. I can never get it to sit right. It doesn’t snap on. Glad I bought a big bottle before it’s impossible to find.

UnearthlyApothecary

Not shocking it was discontinued considering all the comments stating it smells like cigarettes, booze, hairspray etc. the sad thing is, it’s such a uniquely beautiful fragrance and a real powerhouse. I get delicious peppery raspberry candy (like those Christmas hard candies that actually look like raspberries?) atop a lovely woodsy/vetiver base. I mean it maybe has a bit of a smoky vibe? But to me it’s nowhere near cigarettes or tobacco. And yes it’s “artificial” but not chemical for crying out loud. I find Hot Couture very similar to TF Tuscan Leather or Nabeel Arab Tradition without the strong leather. Hot Couture isn’t everyone’s cup of tea obviously but if you like to stand out and want a sexier, more grown up fruity gourmand, look no further.

annasarahr121

Givenchy Hot Couture is a major disappointment -- to my nose, at least. I love a raspberry note (Lady Million, Pink Sugar!), as well as black pepper (Twilly Eau Poivree, White Diamonds en Rouge!) and vetiver (Nirvana Rose, Encre Noir!), but somehow it just does NOT come together properly in this concoction; it does not sparkle as it should. To me (and my daughter), Hot Couture just smells musty and reminds me of damp cardboard -- similar to another one I thought I'd love, Versace Crystal Noir. Not sure what's wrong here, but oh well! -- I'm happy others enjoy it so much, but it's really not for me.

Raisa hasan

Oh my god I hate it so much, its gave me headache and makes me nausea🤢

clo2005

really nice designer fruity fragrance very youthful and fun

TunyaPe

What comes to my head after smelling this is teenage girls in tacky Y2K clothing.
It is a deceptive vintage, even with its outer packaging.

This dry, hay-like vetiver and peppery notes create the subtle smoke effect, but personally, this is so far from being 'smoky or boozy'. Underneath the fruitiness, fizzy quality from bergamot (why least voted??) is definitely my favourite part. While reminding me of refreshing hot summer drinks, somehow I would love this scent to cut the cold crisp weather. IMO, this falls into the category of fun, easy-to-wear & pretty scent.

Hot Couture has no fangs, but it has its identity.

Enrium

I'll admit, the bad pun of its name put me off Hot Couture for a long time, along with the slightly tacky pseudo-vintage bottle. However, I have since found that in order to best appreciate HC, one must embrace its trashiness. I'm not sure whether this was intentional on Givenchy's part, but both the name and the bottle perfectly sum up this cheerfully trashy yet surprisingly good floral-fruity. Givenchy as a house has more than a few underrated fragrance gems, and HC can be included on that list.

HC opens with an alcoholic blast that gives way to bright raspberry note - ladies' night cocktails come to mind. It is lifted by its citrus notes which give a hint of freshness and keep it from being sickly sweet. The pepper adds a subtle hint of spice which tempers the fruitiness nicely.

As it develops on my skin, it becomes sweeter and more dessert-like with a hint of jam - a very on-the-nose girly scent, like a more upmarket Pink Sugar. Instead of going the obvious sugar-bomb-doused-in-vanilla route, HC is a much smarter scent thanks to the work of its perfumers, Morillas and Cavallier, both of whom are noses I greatly admire. It is grounded by a smooth, high-quality, dry vetiver note. The powdery magnolia adds depth and femininity, complementing the sweetness beautifully. The fruitiness is surprisingly long-lasting - detectable until the drydown.

It becomes woody and slightly smoky as it dries down, fading to a sweet, musky skin scent. The drydown is the most predictable part of HC, but the sandalwood smells of a high quality and manages to not overwhelm the other notes. Sillage is moderate and longevity is decent - lasting for about six hours before fading.

Deceptively complex, cheerful and fun, this is a cut above other mainstream floral-fruities. HC is versatile: an autumn-winter day-to-night feminine scent that is not not solely for a young audience. Just the right amount of sexy. If the blonde-with-a-brain archetype was a perfume, this would be it. 4/5.

Ruby Galore

I don't know if there is such a magic drink, but this perfume smells exactly like this, recipe: put a little raspberry jam in a pot, add a pinch of pepper, and cook gently, before boiling, pour half a liter of the finest champagne. Serve warm (or better yet hot).

Ruby Galore

I love this perfume because when I put it on I feel like I'm going to drink 10 cocktails and seduce some sexy guy..and I'm actually going for coffee with a friend and to the food market :D

GinCatsBooks

This is one of my top 10 scents, I coverted a bottle for a while after smelling it and it was a love at first sniff. Hot Couture is sweet but I wouldn't say its a gourmand, I find it to have just the right amount of fruity sweetness without feeling syrupy and sickly, but it also has the right balance of spice and smoke from the pepper and vetiver finished off nicely with some gentle powdery floral nuances from the magnolia.

I'm not really too sure what else I can say about this that no one else has already said but I'll give it a try!
I've never smelt anything quite like this, I think the closest thing I have smelt to this was a White Musk Smoky Rose from The Body Shop but thats since been discontinued, but Hot Couture (as you would expect) has more complexity to it, one reviewer mentioned a hairspray accord and I totally agree, I can smell it in the opening before it settles and makes way for an almost tobacco smokiness but its more like tobacco flowers rather than a cigarette to me, it blends beautifully with a spicy kick from the pepper and a fruity sweetness from the raspberry before I can detect some dry vetiver and gentle florals wafts from magnolia.

The longevity and silage are amazing, with 3 sprays bordering on being a bit overpowering, but it does (thankfully!) calm down after 20 minutes and becomes a bit lighter and less harsh, when I last tested it (back in early 2020 pre pandemic) one spritz on my wrist lasted 8 hours and lasted through a shower as well. This is a little hard to find but thankfully its available online from Givenchy directly as well as a few other retailers as well as from Notino, I really don't think I could not have a bottle of this now I've got it in my collection, its such a unique scent!

EmilyLaura

My favourite - a shame Givenchy doesn't produce it anymore! I still buy bottles online but I find the smell is not exactly the same - possibly because some are a bit old! I'd recommend Eau de Parfum (yellow bottle). Smell is warm, sweet, amber and I love the way it smells after a couple of hours!

Laila C

I just saw this referenced on another perfume and I’d totally forgotten all about it!! I had this at the same time as Organza too but I ended up wearing Organza more at the time and I didn’t buy a second bottle of this one. I will have to have another sniff before I write a proper review as it was such a long time ago since I wore it. The fact that I couldn’t remember it until now though probably means it’s definitely in the ‘nice but forgettable’ category.

Ruby Galore

I just bought it...it smells thrue cellophane and a box, how powerful it is! la, la, la ...
This will be a juicy end of summer and a beautiful autumn :)

MsFaith89

I don’t know if I should order the EDP or EDT they both have good reviews.

jjgirl13

This smells like lipstick gone bad to me.

charmedbella

I remember wearing this in the early 2000s and loving this! (I was 15 in the year 2000, for reference.) I received a lovely 15ml bottle of the vintage Hot Couture EDP in a swap recently and I've been wearing it again to decide if I need a full bottle of this again.

This is spicy raspberries, a bit of a hairspray vibe, definitely naughty, playful, and fun. It's very nostalgic for me. It's not too heavy, so it can be worn in spring/summer. Initially it is very strong upon first spray, but after an hour or two, it settles down into a beautiful softness.

It's very unique, I don't have anything else like it in my current collection, it definitely wouldn't be a repeat of anything I already have. It's very much full bottle worthy, even 20 years later. I think Givenchy as a house is very underrated and often overlooked.

hexed

Let's say this was a love at second sniff. I might've been in a state of exhaustion and confusion, rolling around in a cloud of Hot Couture at night, I had an entrance exam on the same day as it was delivered to me. It's kind of like raspberry flavored lipstick... Yes, it's smoky, but it also has a papery, powdery feel. maybe a little frivolous... Slim, flavored cigarettes wrapped in pink while you're opening a box of loose powder. Not as bold or intense as I make it out to be, fantastic for summer wear.

ELB78

I’ve had this EDP in my collection for a while now and it’s a strong like. To me there is a quick raspberry citrus burst at first spray which is short lived. Then I mainly get peppery vetiver. For some reason it’s addictive. I find the projection and sillage to be soft to moderate. I like to wear it on my days off when I’m wearing slightly ripped jeans, tight white t-shirt and a baseball cap (I feel it’s more casual). I don’t wear it to work because so many reviews say it smells of cigarettes, which I can understand a bit. I am waiting for the EDT I have ordered. I’m really curious if it is brighter and more fresh as some say it is.

CateCate

Amy Winehouse’s perfume... i want it just for this!!🥲

Elsee

I have an odd path of getting to this. I ordered something from FragranceNet and received a sample of James Bond 007. I put some on and it reminded me of something but I wasn't sure of what. I checked here and there it was -- Hot Couture. I had a faint memory of what HC smelled like but I did remember it was fruity and just a "like" for me. Well, time for a 2021 smell test...

I've had my EDP for some time now so I pulled it out from the bottom of the perfume barrel to see if it was familiar to JB 007. Interesting. I love it! I never have before but now, it's amazing! My bottle is probably 10 years old but smells great! And yes, the two resemble each other - cousins maybe. Fun find for sure!

Ladies, if you have this in your stash, take it out and get reacquainted. You'll be happy you did -- just in time for spring!

vdxl

Hot Couture should have been a simple, innocent raspberry perfume. But the EDP it is not. Bought this for my wife for Valentine's 2019- when I bought myself Amarige and Organza. She hated it. I said ok- I use it then. I was expecting the same raspberry as - maybe the EDT- with some soft florals. But beware- at least on a man's skin- the raspberry transforms itself into black pepper, tobacco and leather. Some sweetness remains throughout of the scent, but expect something niche- even though the lasting power is not great (4-6 h) and sillage: screams for the first hour, then soft and barely there- unless some anosmia going on. If you're a man and you fancy some of the sweeter stuff marketed man- do try it.

CdeBXL

Having both no1 and this version, I would say that this is a lighter and safer version. Given the BAM Impact of no1, this comes indeed forward as the shy younger sister of no1 (even if it is EdP -and btw a cousin of the divine Jean Patou For Ever).

Nonethless, spraying a bit more makes the fruits and peppers stand out more, but one cannot but compare to the black topple bottle juice (argh, that bottle falling over all the time :-D) which is deeper, rounder, sultrier, more unforgiving (which are plusses).
So there, let's not compare anymore here and now.

HC2000 is definitely likeable. A cheeky balanced play with most not(ic)eably raspberry, pepper, vetiver and musk.

Nancy83

I have an old sample from my mom collection. It starts as a peppery orangey strawberry scent, the smell is very sexy, maybe too bold for me. The performance is nice, one spray goes a long way. After two hours it's less peperrish, then 6 hours later, it's woodier, blurry fruity sweet, the amber more noticeable.

It's a fun perfume, I will use up my sample when I feel for a stronger pepper fruity scent. I'm not usually a vetiver girl, but it goes well with the scent.

goldiloks

I bought a sample of this to see how it faired against my Collection No.1 mini. I'm not sure if they are meant to smell the same or there has been some reformulation? My mini (in the black bottle with the lady) has a sweet rich depth and smokiness which the current EDP does not, and there is a scratchiness to my sample which I can't get past (might this be the pepper?) and a slight plasticky edge. (of course, I can't be 100% sure my ebay decants are legit). Collection No.1 is smoother, despite the age and discoloration of the mini I own. I owned a full bottle of Collection No. 1 when it came out in 2000, and sadly neither smell as good as this (from what I can recall of it!) and the EDT has given me painful sinuses! I'll check out the EDT and see if I like that better...

trailerhead04

Not sophisticated enough for what it wants to be. Perfomance and sillage nonexistent. Glad to see this discontinued as it hasn't aged well at all, at least the last batches of the formualtion. Scent is pretty decent if a bit on the overly casual side

Joani_Cheddar

This smells like the Mojave Desert to me - at least what I imagine. It does not host a sand note but to my nose this smells like I'm in a dry hot desert while wearing a CK unisex lime type summer scent. IT SMELLS DELIGHTFUL. I wont lie, at first it confused me - what is this perfume trying to be... fruity? musky? peppery? woody? ALL OF THE ABOVE- definitely aromatic goodness and the notes that stand out are sweet raspberry, bergamot, dry amber, and pepper but the sandalwood steals the show.

Gül Türe

Love Love Love❤️ The work of two great perfumer. it's definitely not a simple fragrance. yes it is sweet but it doesn't have a cheap or sugary smell. definitely a masterpiece. I am very sorry that it was discontinued. I have a bottle and I don't wear it too much so that it doesn't run out.

Angelina1931

Hairspray, cigarettes and hard candy at the top; musk and sandalwood close to the skin. Hot Couture is sophisticated but a little naughty too. You could wear this to several different social settings. There is a nice projection to Hot Couture but not obnoxious. It lasted about 4 hours on a cold day.

StinkyTinky

I’m so intrigued by this! I had purchased because of some of the reviews saying Givenchy Hot Couture had a cigarette smoke element. It sparked my curiosity and thought it might offer something different to my supply. Sure, there’s some soft pepper and with a little creativity it can take you there. But honestly it’s more of the addiction to this scent that draws a parallel and has captivated my attention. It’s one of 2 in my collection that I actively smell before work, and it’s in a constant rotation of mine being that it’s not tied to one season.
The raspberry note justifies some warm weather appearances. The amber, musk, peppery element makes it cozy and comforting for cooler climates. And the combination of the above makes it absolutely addictive!!
Longevity and sillage are both slightly above average. It’s a little bit costly vs other established designer scents still in production- and that could very well be due to demand and availability. Regardless, for the seasoned perfume fan...this will add some variation to your collection and I absolutely recommend...

arg1971

I was finally able to get my hand on another bottle of this perfume, I discovered this year's ago. Omg as I opened the bottle and took stiff I was once again mesmerized by this sultry peppery scent. I am addicted to perfume and wear it faithfully everyday and will continue to be a fan of hot coutour.

andreagiron

I absolutely adore it!

BlackOrchidSorceress

Got a “vintage” mini

This stuff is addictive, nothing amazing at first sniff but you keep smelling it in the air and boom yr nose is smashed against the back of yr hand sniffing like a fiend

It’s 1991 and this is the signature scent of yr friend’s hot older sister (let’s save time it’s Kelly Bundy) who goes out with boys in hair metal bands and wears her hair teased n hair-sprayed, 6 different silver cross necklaces of varying lengths and bright red lipstick.

I know this was created in 2000 but it takes me back to the early 90’s lol

I didn’t get the tobaccoesqueness right away but it goes get there and it’s fruity

THIS IS SO GOOD and it’s surprisingly comforting too

bel.gravia

The raspberry and pepper are delicious and addictive. Fruity, spicy and fresh.

Passionflower

I like the smell of Hot Couture, but it's not something I would use. It's too sweet for me. It's very fruity, and it would be nice as a fragrance for washing detergent or an air freshener. I would never spray this on my body though. Not for me.

brightflashes

The sweet juiciness of the raspberry is perfectly counter-balance with the choice of vetiver as a middle note. What ends up happening with the fragrance is that we get a startling dark raspberry scent that is decidedly feminine. To my nose, the combination of pepper and sandalwood actually makes for a shimmery pepper that isn't as sharp as it is more mildly spicy.

Looking at the notes on the right-hand side it appears I am one of the few that detects a strong orange as well and this, to me, boosts and carries the raspberry. The idea that it's a floral fragrance sort of blows me away given that the sole flower, Magnolia, isn't as easy for me to detect at all.

avmist

I purchased a decant of the EDP after blind-buying and falling head over heels for the EDT. I like it, but I don't love it; I prefer the EDT a lot more. I smell the sandalwood a lot more in this one; it smells more woody and smoky than that sweet and fruity EDT. Both have that smoky raspberry aroma, and both last very well on my skin, but I gotta say that I agree with the majority of people here, the EDT is much better in my opinion

hfigures

This was a blind buy and I love it. Very pleasing. This will always be a favorite.

panda12345

high sillage.long lasting sophisticated and sexy

Jmalone84

So this was a blind buy based on reviews. Upon first spray I can honestly say my nose had a little aha moment, the kind you get when you try a fragrance and you instantly think YES, this is good perfumery, this is EXCELLENT.

This I can see will be one of my top faves. Juicy raspberry opening, lots of peppery goodness, that sharp hit of vetiver, deep luscious woods and the veriest hint of smokiness. I’m in love and feel like I need to stock up!

Fleurpetit

When I was a little girl, I used to play in my friends treehouse.. it was an old gnarled Peppertree that smelled of peppercorns and I remember thinking at the time, termites.
Nope, it was just pepper and my immature nose smelling something I’d created in my mind.
Hot Couture reminds me of endless afternoons in that treehouse.. with a sprinkling of raspberries. The raspberry is not overpowering or sweet. I also smell a smoky leather in the dry down.
I found this to be reasonably linear, from beginning to end.
It didn’t wow me as much as I hoped based on the reviews. But it’s definitely different and as such, I’m very happy to have it in my collection.

eric.cius

Pretty sure this was the inspiration for Tuscan leather. The raspberry, the smokiness. Tom just threw a bunch of cow skin on his and called it a day.
I love this on women. Girls maybe scared off by it but a woman who knows what you need?
Love it.

Austrian_in_Denmark

Stunning, seductive and overwhelming. This smells like a party where people smoke (gasp!), drink fruit bowle full of ripe raspberries and lounge around on old leather couches. Such fun!

A little friendly warning: do not try Hot Couture (ANY of the Hot Coutures) unless you are prepared to chase them for the rest of your life. This stuff is completely addictive.

rhizomaticleo

I have a 1.7 OZ bottle of this for sale, PM me if interested!

terigurl

This is a perfect all year round scent. To my nose it's a crisp sweet woody tea. I do smell the dark berries in the opening, the dry down is a sweet, spicy creamy delight. I'd wear on a date, it lasts long and does project in a non offensive way. I'd repurchase. Great to have in a collection.

modernwarpaint

A coworker walked out of my office today, and I caught a waft of Tom Ford Ombre Leather. I was sure that's what she was wearing.

I emailed her to inquire; as I was typing my ego was internalizing, "I KNOW IT'S OMBRE LEATHER."

Her response, "Givenchy Hot Couture."

My ego hung onto some slice of hope, "Let's look up the notes on Fragrantica!"

PeonySugar

Ahh..This smells good! Fizzy fruity sparkling but very elegant. It reminds me champagne with fruity flavour. In winter spicy notes peak out but when day is sunny it becomes more citrusy sweet and bright. Great perfume for night out or for spending day outdoors.

frenchthellamanerdfighter

wanted to like this, its theoretically up my alley. a spray on my wrist and all i get is peanut butter.... i havent been around any peanut butter today. oh well

Cocoblondinette

Hot Couture has been a favorite of mine for years, and I believe what makes it truly special (at least on my skin) is the sharp tartness of the raspberry combined with the earthiness of the vetiver. The black pepper and the amber make it just warm enough for me to consider it as a cozy fragrance. I personally enjoy wearing it in cold weather, at night during the fall and even during the day in winter, especially with a pastel-colored sweater or sweater dress.

This is a new favorite of mine. Wearing on a cooler evening around the house and I fell absolutely in love with it. The dry down is simply gorgeous and soft. All around beautiful perfume. Would buy again and would consider making this my signature. ❤️❤️❤️

In my early twenties, I LOVED this perfume. It's no coincidence that the word "HOT" is in its name--- because it makes you feel hot, as in sexually attractive. It's perfect for wearing under a light sundress on a steamy summer night. Otherwise, this perfume is not suited for most people or occasions. I used to perceive it as primarily spicy and peppery, almost masculine. But now I just can't get passed how SWEET it is--- like raspberry cheesecake. (This is what happens to many people as they get older--- they lose interest in the sweet scents they once loved.) But it's a great perfume and I'd highly recommend it to someone in their early twenties, especially if they want to feel sexy. (Sorry, but that point has gotta be made.) All said and done, it's a great perfume, excellent sillage, long lasting, and a dry down that's true to its notes. I still keep a small roller of it...

When I want something cozy and alluring that differs from my usual vanilla craving-quenchers, this is the one. Hot Couture is one of those scents that just gets better with time. Creamed raspberries generously coated in powder, backed by smokey woods and a dash of sweetness. Long lasting and beautiful. The more I wear it, the more I want to.

fabienne.carsauw

My all time favorite scent!
Recieved many compliments at the traide fair where i was for my job.
When i told them it was Givenchy they all reacted: of course.
It s expensive but worth it!

Hayleysmells26

This is my most complmented fragrances! Every time put this on people want to know what it is, had a man walk into the vending area and said omg I love your perfume and asked what it was love it so much

ismellsogood

Why is tobacco not in the notes!!? smells of cigarettes and oriental tea sweetened with nectar!

Coquita

This is a sweet, yet pleasant perfume. On my skin, it's very linear: I smell a powdery raspberry from start to end. Sillage is good, and if I get a whiff without directly smelling it from my skin, I get more of the citrusy and magnolia smell.
Nice, but not my style.

It's been more than three years that I have Hot Couture EDP and I'm almost sure now that it's not for me eventhough I love raspberry and sweet perfumes
It's opening and first few hours is interesting.on me it's raspberry(and some bergamot)+black pepper+cigarette+something boozy.it has it's own unique personality and is somehow sexy.there's this spicy, herbal, woody, smokey edges that balances raspberry's syrupy sweetness so all in all I won't call it a very sweet perfume.it's also far from a childish fruity perfume as there's an obvious adult, even slightly madculine vibe here
Middle phase is also nice.magnolia tries to give it a feminine softness but can't go further than a very light hint of creamy floral thing in background.I could have like it if it didn't continue changing but it does.drydown is mostly smokey vetiver with a herbal, peppery undertone, not sweet or fruity anymore and too masculine and woodsy for my taste.it reminds me of Cartier Dragon, another unique boozy, smokey, sexy perfume that is ruined by vetiver overdose in drydown.I have accepted that I can't love it but I can see how it can appeal to others,it can be even a signature material as it's memorable.maybe I'd better go with the EDT version
Hot Couture EDP is best suited for cool days and nights.it has an amazing longevity.it's drydown lingers on my skin for more than a day and clings to clothes for ages.I will keep my half used 1.7oz bottle,I can enjoy it sometimes for a few hours then take a shower to get rid of it's drydown and who know, maybe some day I change my mind about vetiver

No raspberries, alas. No pepper, black or otherwise. But there's lots of amber and a bit of woods and spice in this modern Givenchy. It does have lasting power, like so many classic Givenchy's. The dry down is very good, and quite similar to the opening. In fact this fragrance is rather linear on me, which is a good thing in this case.
Hot Couture is a well made scent, there's nothing cheap about it. It's intense in a discreet way, if that makes sense. The scent is strong without being overwhelming. This makes Hot Couture very wearable, I feel. It's too bad I don't get the raspberry, but the amber note is good enough.

rola.asad

Sweet-tobacco peppery scent, it’s really unique mixture that gathers sweet raspberries with pepper, which makes it smokey!!
not office-friendly, good for nights-out and special occasions.
sillage & longevity: V.good.

This perfume was my second perfume as gift that I got from my brother in law whom loves perfume, first I didn't like it much, so I decided to wear it every where to finish it. when there was much little in the bottle I understood that I love it. I didn't really remember how it smelled, but I remember that I held my head up high when I wore it.

brigitten

I was hesitant about Givenchy perfumes, they are too stuffy, too pretentious for my pedestrian taste. But Hot Couture had me at first time. In the beginning it jumps at me with champagne bubble, reminding me of chypre fruity perfumes popular in 00's like Miss Dior Cherrie. Later it greets me with warm, slightly sweet amber note. In winter season I get smoked raspberry, but in warmer months it's just elegant spicy amber and attracts me compliments. When I want something more sexy in this genre, I go for Tuscan Leather.

nordhaul

Wearing on a really cold fall day
It lasts because I keep smelling
it all day :o I think, what other
people??? No compliments.

UPDATE: THE DRYDOWN
had me change from “like”
to LOVVVE OMG Divine

My lounge room smells like this.

Because I left an item of clothing with it sprayed on it on the back of the lounge.

Amazing longevity on skin and clearly longer on fabric.

'beastmode'!!

A nicely done fragrance.
This was pre the celebrity fragrance movement that lead the fragrance industry to become watered down.
Good quality scents like this are now going niche.

Having (and still enjoying) the Hot Couture Eau de Toilette makes it is very hard to fall in love with the Hot Couture Eau de Parfum. It sadly pales in comparison to the brightness and potency of the EDT.

The EDT has a bright, kind of raspberry note that lasts all day. The kind of "cigary" smell balances it out. While I can't even seem to smell the EDP once it is on me. The bright raspberry smell of the EDT is barely noticeable; and, since I can barely smell it once it's on---it seems to have no longevity whatsoever. I am surprised that some say they get compliments with this one---I can't even seem to smell it. While the EDT has garnered many a compliment and even has had my husband ask me if I was wearing perfume after a full shift of work (he never "talks" perfume)---I cannot see the EDP being even close to this. The scent is not bad, but, it is not the best either. It smells similar to the EDT, but way more toned down, lacking any kind of "spark", even having a note that comes through as a little nauseating. Will definitely stay with the EDT (in fact, you would think that the Eau de Toilette should be named the Eau de Parfum).

Christopher Cupcakes

I tried this on in the Givenchy Boutique and absolutely fell in love with it. It is a warm and sweet gourmand scent. The dry down of the base notes: amber, musk and sandalwood are so seductive smelling.

I'm definitely going back to buy a big bottle of this soon.

Stasi

This has been on my shopping list forever! I went to Sephora to smell it, but they didn't have a bottle so I blind bought it online - bad idea. I'm so mad that I paid so much money for a Givenchy fragrance to smell like Aquolina's Simply Pink. It's different for the first 5 minutes then becomes Simply Pink which is a fraction of the cost! I'm so annoyed.

Update: I ended up wearing this a few more times (mostly because perfumania.com won't let me return it), and I'm pleased to report that it is more complex than Simply Pink. They're definitely similar but this one more citrus and sour. Also, the vetiver makes it different from the usual raspberry vanilla sugar bombs.
- Is Aquolina's Simply Pink an exact dupe? No, but it's close.
- Do I think the price difference is worth it? No.
- Would I repurchase Hot Couture? No.
- Do I still regret the purchase? No, but I'm not ecstatic about it either.

Bee-young-ka

My lover put this on after his shower, grabbing a bottle I had left out in easy reach.

This is really appealing on him.

I'm surprised this works on a man.

HELLO!

I am a man and I am excited by the prospect of vetiver, pepper and raspberry in this perfume.

I want to ask those who have it : CAN THIS BE WORE BY A MAN?

An anticipated THANK YOU!

marialena888m

For a scent starring raspberries, Hot Couture is mature, sophisticated, and very sensuous. I am currently wearing a few spritzes from my mom's bottle (she's had it for around 10 years). It's rich, tart berries and some indistinct florals riding a thick warm cloud of peppered musk and woods. The berries here are on the dry side, and abit jammy, not too sweet. I smell raisins, a freshly opened pack of berry-menthol cigarettes and a deep amber. And something like the smell of crisp dollar bills. It's very late 90's and early 00's in feel.

Something a successful 'cougar'-type would wear as her signature. If this scent was a woman: She's a red-lipped CEO in a big city, ambitious, dripping with charm, drinks fine wines, wears black lace underneath a power suit that hugs her curves, and sky high Louboutins. An alpha woman. She has a well-preserved, ageless look, so she could be 30 or 50, no one can really tell. She smokes Virginia Slims, lights scented candles in her tastefully decorated office, and chews sugar-free blackberry gum in an attempt to quit smoking. She is skilled at straddling the line between 'sweet and humble', and 'cold hard bitch'. And yes, she loves her haute couture gowns, and wears them like they are second skin.

Huge sillage, excellent longevity.

blachedalmond

I had a bottle of this laying around for ages... Even though I liked the way it smelled I was always overwhelmed, possible because I lived in really hot climate. But I got to enjoy this warm peppery raspberry, magnolia and sandalwood mix fully once after I moved to another region. It is warm, sweet and spicy.

I'm moving around a lot and finally got tired of carrying everything I own with me all the time. So I don't see myself buying another bottle soon, not before I reduce the number of perfumes I own only to a few.

BlackAmberMoon

Sweet raspberries with some woods and musk to add a bit of depth. It's delicious, but a bit immature. Similar to Miss Dior Cheri, but more complex.

boannika

Wore this in 2008, at 17 years old. Bit mature for my age at the time, but I like to believe I used to pull this off:).I wore it going out at nights, clubbing (I'm Serbian, we didn't get carded, basically nobody cared about your age,( was cool at the time, now I find it to be quite a sad thing)).It reminds me of going to the club knowing my crush (my husband, now) would be there, it's so nostalgic, have to find it somewhere, just to smell it for a minute or two. Before finding out about Fragrantica, I thought this was a strawberry peppery perfume, now I see that it was actually raspberry.Elegant, but at the same time sexy. I remember it lasting super long, and the sillage was amazing, that' s why I never wore it to school, I found it to be a bit inappropriate for that. If you find it somewhere, give it a try, it's stunning.

Ms.Molly

Love this one! Imagine the smell of ripe berries slow cooking with brown sugar and a seasoning of peppercorns and maybe a dash of nutmeg. YUM!

The EDP lasts throughout the day. A classic.

francescasmith94

I received this in a swap and was sad to find it a bit "meh". I thought I would love it based on the notes but on my skin sadly, it's pepper and not a lot else.

mattandlayla

I absolutely adore this perfume! It smells like popcorn and raspberries. A lovely warm smell that lasts forever! LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!!

arsgords

This one is nice but only "nice" It is a warm fragrance and so much sweet. Longevity and sillage is good. Many men love that perfume. Maybe it can be a gourmand perfume.

ras.kel.5

Fruity floral with a twist. The pepper makes it interesting while the fruits provide some freshness and femininity. The vetiver provides a masculine edge that balances out the other elements. Nice and perfectly unisex, but not impressive. Would be great for spring/summer and/or as a safe gift for someone you don't know very well.

Violinplayah

At first spray I get a holiday style rich syrupy warm raspberry spiced pie filling. I was anticipating a cherry tobacco pipe type smell and this is not quite like that, but I’m not disappointed because after the delicious raspberry I get powder with a hint of incense smoke. I haven’t smelled another perfume like this. It’s feminine but definitely edgy and smart- Hot Couture is a perfume for all the Hermione Grangers! The edp is definitely more interesting and better lasting than the edt- not sure why it’s harder to find. Quickly loving this and can definitely see this becoming a staple during the cold months. I could see this fitting almost any age category because it’s more of a personality than a time of life scent, if that makes sense. So worth the blind buy!

AmjadFaris

Amazing

Rising_Phoenix

This was the first bottle of perfume I actually bought on my own for myself. I had been given a little sample vial of it by a friend who knew my tastes and had smelled this while she was out in department store. She thought I would like it so she gave me the sample. I not only liked it, I loved it! I bought a full size bottle then never turned back.
I cannot remember the last time I had this perfume and/or wore it. There are so many others in the market now that I don't know if there's a need for me to go back to this. But I did love the hell out of it when I did have it and would recommend it because it's so nice.

Carrieberry

Beautiful unique fragrance. Better than the EDT in my opinion. I like how strong the vetiver is in this composition it really makes Hot Couture EDP stand out. It is less sweet than the EDT and smells sophisticated.

Ohhellozippy

I really want to love this because it's such an unusual beautiful composition. But sadly, it makes me nauseous. Too much of the pepper I suppose :'( Will give it another chance in the winter when it's really cold, perhaps it will make a difference.

19820129a

I got it last winter and since then me and Hot Couture are inseparable. What gets me in is raspberry tobacco note. I am non-smoker all my life, but many times I find fruity tobacco or incense infatuating. Hot Couture starts with intense berry tobacco soaked in leather bag, that after minutes dissolves into spicy refreshing magnolia. For some reason people are mesmerized by scent, but I feel in high temperature it becomes too spicy, straight up black pepper, therefore for summer days I choose other perfumes.

nenalovespurfume

I ADORE this fragrance! To me, it sophisticated, classy, with a GRAND touch of CHIC. Its heavenly deliciousness in a BOTTLE. IF YOU'VE NEVER SMELLED THIS PERFUME, AND CONSIDERED BUYING, ITS A SAFE BET YOU'LL LOVE IT JUST AS MUCH AS I DO!

HOUSTONHOUSTON

Gourmand. Very sweet. Not unisex, girly. Raspberry+sweet candy/chocolate. There are many similar perfumes around. Good juice, but I am not impressed.

jumblecupcake

Cigar, makeup and class in a bottle!

Neckromancer

Oh my gosh, this smells like a nightclub in the best way. It's cigar smoke mixed with fruity perfume and sexy mysteriousness. One of the more unique perfumes still on the market right now. Suitable for all ages (perhaps above 18, but I think a brooding 14yr old could possibly pull it off).

Self-Propelling Fantasy

Hot Couture is a very glamourous and sexy perfume. It's bright and effervescent with the raspberry and citrus notes, while the pepper gives it some attitude. The base is warm and woodsy and keeps the composition sultry throughout.
If you don't want to be noticed, pick another perfume! This perfume has a pretty loud presence. I'm usually completely invisible to men, but when I wear this, I get some looks and smiles. Still, I hate getting a lot of attention, so I rarely wear this perfume.
Longevity is about 6 hours.
The fragrance best suits the moderate temperatures of spring and autumn. It doesn't seem to bloom very nicely in cold temperatures, and it blooms obnoxiously in hot temperatures. I think it can be worn day or night, accompanied by a bit of sass and confidence!

Azin Mansouri

Wow , it seems to be my signature, I need to test it

BottledUp

This appears to be, at first, a typical sweet fruity scent. It opens with a nice sweet raspberry, but there's something different about it. There are hints of pepper and a vetiver undertone, but I primarily get a dry tobacco along with raspberry.

It took me awhile to figure out it was tobacco! But other reviews say they also smell it.

I'm not sure if this is must-have for me, but I definitely want it. It's an unusual take on popular fragrance that results in something very interesting. Definitely worth a try.

broomflower

I was given this as a gift and--I hate to say it--but it strikes me as a very infantile scent. Artificial raspberry blooms that take over the formula, a note of pepper that remains but remains understated to a very undefined floral bouquet--a scent that begins and end on the same note with very little change. It reminds me of teenage girls and not in an interesting way. For those seeking to relive their youth.

hails_blogger

This perfume gives compliments! It is such a unique classy french fragrance. The peppery opening and the beautiful floral raspberry is just an addictive concoction. I remember the first time I smelt this years ago on someone else and asked them what they were wearing. It smelt so delicious, I had never smelt anything like it. I would wear this on dates, my dates would always comment on how amazing I smelt! Still to this day there is nothing like hot couture and I will always own a bottle.

kati77

The first 40 minutes after applying on my skin it gives an unpleasant smell. I do not know whether it is because of a vetiver with bergamotka, because often these 2 ingredients are in male perfumes. I do not know what exactly this is but some irritating aroma. On my other hand i tested L'instant Guerlain edt, so maybe by comparison Hot Couture lost a lot. Now after about 2 hours it gets pretty, close-ups, slightly flower. Well, for me it's definitely not great scent.
Over all i dont like it.

Suomineito

I had this one borrowed from my sister when she was bored of it. I like sweet scents but this was too much for me because it has a tobacco scent somewhere amidst of the sweetness. I'm not a smoker and actually hate the smell of cigarettes with vigor. The last straw was when a woman in the library passed me and she had poured this all over herself. After that I always thought of her and the twisting of my stomach as she passed me in the stairs and the scent was ruined for me forever. I retuned it to my sister and she later gave it to her friend. This scent brings bars, 80's and 80's it-girls a la Absolutely Fabulous to my mind - not for everyone that is but I can see that somebody will love this.

heycath25

for me this fragrance remind me of a girl spending a day shopping in paris. It smells really sophisticate and sweet at the same time. Also remind me of an expensive cigar. Kind of weird saying that but it really smells Smocky and i think its the pepper. Very unique and i got so many compliments wearing this perfume.

abbyofthevalley

One word of caution: other people and animals may be sensitive to the strong pepper note in the fragrance. My cat ran away from me and had a sneezing fit shortly after I first applied this once. I do adore this fragrance though! It's absolutely delicious and intriguing, there is nothing else like it. But wear with caution! It lasts a VERY long time! The sharpness of the pepper disappears in the dry down and I'm left with a delicately sweet and spicy fragrance, like the sweetest bouquet of carnations.

Kate.love1

I find it confident and sexy, very feminine. First spritz gives an pleasant impression: powdery amber, raspberry and pepper with a hint of sweet floral hmmm. The pepper and floral scents prevent it from being too candy like. Some more sweetness feels as vanilla comes out in the dry down and it's like raspberry cream with a hint of spice. Very yummy. My husband always takes an extra deep and happy sniff of me when I wear it.

First I smelled it on somebody else and than I decided I have to have this

savageinstrangeland

I blind bought it. And I really, really like it. It is very unique. I'm actually really surprised this isn't a far more popular fragrance! I can't compare it to anything else out there. This is signature worthy in that it's unmistakably and shamelessly itself. Hot couture is a new catagory of fragrance. They call it Floral here on fragrantica... I don't know what you'd call it, but floral is definitely the wrong catagory. It's completely unlike anything else I've ever smelled.

After a few wears it has become apparent that the scent was aptly named and the bigger picture Givenchy paints with this fragrance began to emerge. Hot Couture reminds me of how a Art Deco era fashion Show or posh party must have smelled behind the scenes... It smells of old fashioned powder makeup, fine fabrics on beautiful, sweaty bodies, even the tobacco of cigars and cigarettes on the lengthy, glamorous extenders of that period makes a appearance by swirling around in the background shamelessly. I know those descriptions probably seem absolutely atrocious, but I truly mean it all in the best way possible! They truly didn't miss a beat in capturing it. It even smells "Hot" somehow, like the bright lights of showtime are shining down upon the crew, raising body heat and simmering all these scents together. I totally "Get it" now and frankly, it's genius!

This has a touch of sweetness to it without being in any way too sweet or remotely gourmand. More like the natural sweetness of fresh raspberries or a fruit platter. But actually not even that really describes the type of sweetness I mean. It's a very difficult fragrance to articulate. I recommend testing it on skin not a test strip. The outcome is entirely different. Hot couture is a contradiction in ways, fresh & clean, yet dirty and dusty. Youthful, yet powdery and classy. Fresh, expensive Tobacco but not even a hint of smoke. Very strange yet totally intoxicating. I feel it's quite versatile. Day, night, winter, summer... this could fly for any season or time. I have a feeling this will become a favorite of mine really fast! It's easily one of the longest lasting fragrances in my sizeable collection. My skin holds very few perfumes but it clings to this one for dear life! 8 hours + is totally unheard of for my chemistry but Hot Couture breaks through that norm as well. I've literally never smelled this on another person, EVER. So it's a well kept secret at least in Portland.

_christine_

I was at Macy's or Bloomingdale's to buy Coco Mademoiselle when it debuted, and the cashier looked at me and said, "No, no, no. You need to try Hot Couture first. Hot Couture is a perfect fragrance for a blonde." Such an odd thing to say, but I tried it. I'm sure it had nothing to do with my blonde hair, but it was perfect for me at that time in my life - fresh, and fruity, and peppery, which deepened into warm musk.

In a world, for fruity/florals Hot Couture stands out for its lack of patchouli and lack of candy-sweetness. It does have a longevity problem, but I'm willing to overlook it for a trip down memory lane.

sophiesnose

This is one of those standout perfumes. It's different and original and you have to keep sniffing at it just to try and decode it. I feel very lucky to have been given a bottle as a gift. I don't think I would have stumbled upon it otherwise. What a gem!

Owlsova72

I had this perfume for 3 years and only now fell in love with it. It is very different it is sweet but not overly and it has this "wet quality" that I love in perfumes. "Wetness" gives interesting vibe and depth to perfumes and very rear. Can anyone tell me what is the difference between HC and HC N1? Please if you have both please describe the differences. N1 is hard to find and the pink one is I think was made first.

Selena

This is 'Hot heaven' in a bottle...
Very sweet, very warm & a little smoky.
I haven't even finished my 50ml,
but i'm definitely going to purchase at least
two more bottles!
The raspberry & pink pepper are the strongest of notes.
I can't stop sniffing myself :)
As the scent dries down it gets better and better.
Successful blind buy!

christobellious

Up until trying this fragrance, I'd always thought I hated perfume!

I received it for my eighteenth birthday and it was truly love at first sniff. It is fruity, peppery, spicy and sweet (in a developed kind of way) with a sophisticated dry-down featuring tobacco, cedar, and leather. I'm impressed by how Givenchy managed to balance playful fruity, sweet scents with sophisticated old-world ingredients but they have; creating something that is appropriate for women at any stage of their life. I recall wearing it on dates, at uni and later at work and it was always appropriate. I always got compliments on it and it ages well too! I also noticed that the notes continued to develop the longer I kept the bottle and by the end, it had become sweeter with the tobacco becoming more pronounced. I really enjoyed following its evolution.

I smelt again recently and it's still great but I think my tastes have changed somewhat or maybe I have outgrown it because it wasn't an immediate stand-out but despite those things, I still recommend you try it.

IrisLily

I used to wear this all the time many years ago. I wore it so much I got sick of wearing it and then forgot about it. I just bought it again thanks to a great sale, and I am once again loving it! It is yummy in a non-gourmand way. It is peppery and spicy but also creamy and berry-ish so it doesn't go too much on either side of that pendulum. It is a definite must have and must wear even if I need to give it a 20 year or so break every now and then.

Fluffy Hair

Smells like tart raspberries and champagne....fishnet pantyhose and hot sex in a dusty European hotel room....and I LIKE it!!! Unfortunately, this one goes a bit sour on my skin after a while, so I spray it on my clothes and hair instead of on my skin. This is a fragrance to wear when you feel fabulous, with glamorous textiles, stilettos and legs for days! Best for night, I think.

smellymouse

This is a spicy, fruity and unique perfume. I've never encountered anything else that smells like it. I'm no longer keen to wear it myself, as it always makes me sneeze and/or gives me headaches.

This is not a commonly-worn perfume. The only time I've smelled it on someone else is when my mother tested it when we were shopping. It smelled a lot better on her than it did on me. I believe she still has a bottle, but she wears it very rarely.

I used to wear it to go to bars, clubs and restaurants but I don't think it suited me. My skin amplified the pepper notes to an almost eye-watering extent. The raspberry note was noticeable in the opening, and it had an astringent raspberry tea quality to it. The vetiver is noticeable after a while. The notes work together to give the illusion of a tobacco tinge in the dry-down; on my skin this was like stale tobacco, as if I smoked a cigar a few hours ago. This caused a few people to not believe me when I told them that I quit smoking.

I don't find this scent very feminine but I wouldn't call it unisex, either. I find it harsh. The way it smells on me is what I imagine seething irritation smells like, if it smells like anything. What appealed to me about it was how clever and sassy it smells. I think only a few people can pull off this scent. Somewhere out there is a person who is perfect for this perfume.

The longevity is good and the sillage is moderate, so it is worth the money if you can make it work for you.

reenpea

I'm a little disappointed with this one- It only seems to last an hour or so on me....I like it at first spray, which is a yummy fruity incense but it turns very quickly into a really faint burnt sugar smell....a little like toffee apples.... and then sort of fades away- It's nice while it lasts, but I was expecting more based on the rave reviews here! It might just be my skin/chemistry that doesn't work well with it. Oh well, onwards with the search for my signature! (This is a review for the perfume rather than the EDT)

EDIT- Now that the temperature has dropped this seems to last much longer on my skin (plus I spray a little extra on my clothes) and I really love it! The boyfriend also loves it and can't stop smelling my neck :) I've had compliments galore too- Winner.

Nikki24

Spicy, smokey raspberry. Sexy.

polkadot27

It smells fruity and feminine to me. The scent doesn't match the name at all I was expecting something rich and heavy and spicy and sexy. To me this is just an exotic fruity scent. It's rather generic for me. The name is very misleading.

socorrosouza

On me it was all about the vetiver and spices, giving Hot Couture a smokey and spicy scent. Sillage was heavy to moderate and lasted for 3 hours, longevity also moderate 5 to 6 hours. But it was too much spicy and smoky and I got only a soft raspberry so I didn't like it much on me.

mschnabel666

I blind bought this for a great price, it's always been on my radar since gourmand, over the top sweeties are my thing.

Um.... ok? I applied this liberally and had a Bluth Family Moment.... "I have made a terrible mistake!" (Arrested Developement joke)

My husband detected the immediate orange/citrus in the opening, but all I got was PICKLES! I'm sure it was the pepper and wood/vetiver-- this was not what I expected at all! Haha!

Then it calmed down to lose the pickles but it felt very cloying and sweet. Even to me! Long lasting, average to good sillage... and the next day my shirt smelled like Viva La Juicy, which I like. :)

Overall, not the best blind buy.... I probably would trade to try the EDT. Haha.
This is just too woody/smoky/pepper. I didn't get any fruit/raspberry.
Then I read about the comparisons to Gucci Guilty, I immediately agreed, and it helped me appreciate the sweet/cloying middle more.

hzsvitamin

A beautiful luxurious scent. I wear it when I want to feel exquisite.

RosieRachel

With this one, I was expecting something really smoky and atmospheric, like a warm room swirling with flavoured cigars. Instead, this is super sweet, like those "artificially-sweetened" raspberries and reminds me of lollies (candy). A subtle sort of smokiness then comes out to play, which I think is the combination of the fresh vetiver and biting black pepper, before it mellows a bit, and becomes a touch creamier, indicating amber and sandalwood, but always remaining fruity and smooth and sweet in a syrupy sort of way. The raspberries remain on my skin from start to finish.

I found Hot Couture to be more raspberries than smokiness on my skin; I actually wanted more smoke! A solid tobacco note would have been perfect here, to create a heavier smoky berry scent. I would really love to buy something like that, as I think it would be unique for the wintertime. However, both men and women did compliment me on this playful scent as is, so I think that others do enjoy it :)

I will also mention that I tested this because I'm looking for perfumes for a pin-up girl, and I don't really get anything "pin-up" about this one, but I suppose it would depend upon how much smoke your skin draws out of this fragrance. I will retest this during the warmer months to see if there is any change. A moderate sillage that calms down to soft after a few hours; longevity was for about 6-7 hours.

This is my second post about this lovely stuff, try and get the 5ml bottles of the original scent, there are still plenty around. I have about 10, so I'll stop collecting now! Superb for summer. Fresh raspberry delight, lasts all day. Beautifully made xx

All perfumes go bad, it depends on light (keep it in the box), heat (if you live on a hot place beware) and humidity (if you live in a hot humid place doubly beware, in a few years, from 3 to 5, your perfume will have a great probability of become brownish and smell only of iron oxides). I live on the doubly whammy place so I have lost perfumes from the 60s (stored in boxes and in less warm places) bought by my father to 90s powerhouses to quite recent fruitchoulis. It is a very lucky person that will experience a vintage that will really smell like it did when manufactured.

I love this perfume and would love to try the original...where can I find it and how do I know if it is actually the original? Does perfume go bad?

Smells like raspberry, smoke, wood, dirt and wet stones. I think this combination smells really good! It's sexy and earthy. I once had and gave away the EDT. The EDT was lighter and brighter, more playful than sexy, but unfortunately had a distinct ashtray smell on me. For some reason, in the EDP the smoky note doesn't turn ashtray on me.

I get that it smells kinda smoky, but I don't catch the tobacco that other people here have claimed... it has fruity notes, a thicker in-between-smell (not sure what it is... it doesn't smell like tobacco on me though)... on the whole it smells very sophisticated - can induce a headache if you spray on too much - and very much so a smell that reminds me of clubbing...

I don't go clubbing but it's a 5/5 fragrance!

I have a few bottles of the old, dark brown parfum: smoky, sexy, lovely. Am I the only one who smells pine? Loved it so much that I bought a bottle of the spray EDP from Amazon.

I was surprised that this version is a light brown, seemingly-diluted version that lasts only a few hours with almost zero sillage.

I'm going to stock up on the older, little dark-brown bottles of parfum, which I love.

I really like this!

It's absolutely a sister scent to JPG Classique, which I also really like. This is a great leather jacket scent but easily could go down well with a summery, flirtatious cotton dress. :)

Someone noted that it struck them as a 40's scent and it totally is in that vein - it makes me think of a bomb shell or Bacall-type - the smokiness which is pleasant and more along the lines of sweet clove or high quality cigar (yum!) and the delicious leathery powder compact thing that's going on - it sounds like a hot mess but it's so freaking good! Like JPG it makes me feel very, very sexy and really confident. You will find yourself smelling your wrist or clothes constantly because it's got a delicious contrast of notes that even as it fades out you can enjoy.

And yeah, the raspberry - I don't believe I have anything in my collection that contains this note and I rather like it. It isn't head ache inducing nor is it flat. It's just right.

Excuse, I have a trechcoat to don and a crime to go solve in the pouring rain....

Very sweet very young. Reminds me of a sweet smelling cigar! It is quite heavy and therefore better suited for nighttime.
