I'm really surprised how many people are saying this perfume has longevity. I really love the smell of it - it smells like real black berries and green, not like the 'perfume' version that you can usually find. Very fresh and garden-y. But, it has virtually no projection or longevity on me, and with overspray it doesn't improve but gets a sort of cloying-back of the mouth scent that makes it unpleasant. While I love the scent, I've literally never had anyone comment on it or be able to smell it on me. A friend of mind also wears this and I have never been able to smell it on her either. It was also expensive for what it is - the price would be worth it if the great smell projected but for something that only I can smell for an hour or two, too much money.

fragrancequeenpickyeditio

Such a lovely scent! Im huge fan of jo malone perfumes and this has to be one of my favorites! however doesn't last at all on my skin which is a bummer considering the price tag. I would always get compliments from it and that gave me a huge confidence boost! Smells great and just like the notes above!

chauncey

This fragrance is EXTREMELY fruity and sweet to my nose, It's also pretty linear to me which I kinda don't like, but at the same time I do. I only smell Blackberry and a little bit of Grapefruit, I don't know what Bay Leaf smells like and I honestly can't really care for it much.

I have gotten a lot of compliments from this fragrance though. While the Projection is actually pretty shit, it's Longevity actually surprised me. It lasts about 8 hours or more on my clothes and about 5 - 6 hours on my skin.

Overall, it's a good scent.

Very fresh and green, a lovely spring scent. Imagine sitting in the middle of the meadow of green bushes, squeezing a big bunch of berry leaves with your palms and throw those into the air. Or like when you accidentally mow into your berry bushes while mowing your lawn. That’s how it smell exactly like, distinctive and luring scent of freshly cut leaves, coming bold and then literally disappear like a flash. I’m a cold skin type girl living in a cold climate so I would say this perfume not lasting at all, and the sillage is almost zero. I over sprayed it before going out and I have to sniff my arms or shoulders thoroughly after to actually find the spots that smell. You need to reapply the perfume often to recreate the effect, a bottle definitely will not last long.

lctvann

very pretty blackberry scent, the opening is fresh, tart, and green. the dry down on my skin is sweet for some reason. i find this fragrance to project a little more than other jo malones i've tried.

Filolek3037

It’s my mothers signature scent and it’s soooo beautiful! It’s one of the perfumes that smells differently on yourself but if someone else is wearing it, you realize WHY it’s so special. I think the comparison to a blackberry bush is spot on! But only if you smell it on yourself, if someone around me is wearing it I can smell the cosyness- it’s fluffy clean (not creamy!)…like a luxury soap but not in an old-fashioned way but rather a modern, expensive way. It’s not fruity and skin-like sweet. I just LOVE it

Isabella Therese

This smells EXACTLY like a blackcurrant bush. Not in a perfumey sweet way, I'm talking about an actual photorealistic bush. My parents had blackcurrant bushes in their backyard when I grew up, and this smells identical to those. Berries, leaves, stems, all of it. It's very green and bitter, no sweetness, fruitiness or florals. Very nostalgic, but not something I would ever wear as a perfume.

vanillabeanshampoo

Tart, fruity, delicious. It’s so realistic and juicy, and lasts pretty well on the skin. Paired with Wild Bluebell it smells like an orchard in summer rain.

Leahra

I'm from Scotland and grew up around blackberry bushes, and this is exactly what blackberry and bay smells like. It is very very green and not a fruity scent, as many would likely think. It is unisex and leans toward the masculine on its own in my opinion, however it blends beautifully with other Jo Malone perfumes and so can be as feminine as you like. I personally buy this one for the blending.

oniwa

as a lover of green scents, this is SUCH a gorgeous perfume! it should be noted that i only tested it on my wrists, but i seriously couldn't resist sniffing myself every 20 seconds in the airport duty-free lol. it's a juicy fruit scent with a moderate depth to it and is ever so slightly medicinal. i don't understand the people saying it's masculine; it's a slightly feminine-leaning unisex fragrance. can't wait to buy this someday!

Bee91

Refreshing and delicious. It starts as juicy and verdant, with a subtle yet delightful sweetness that blooms into a breath of balsamic freshness.
I find it subtle and playful, like a fairy frolicking barefoot in the woods. I personally wouldn't gift this to a man, unless I knew his taste very well.

I never tried it in store, because I don't particularly like neither blackberry, nor bay, nor cedarwood. But then I got a sample and it's my current favorite.

Downsides: lasting power and sillage are both very weak. Such a shame because I'm so obsessed I can barely wear anything else.

mudpach

Blind buy, and I don't like it, very masculine scent, and the bay is so strong.

Lykopa

This beauty is probably in my top 10 fragrances of all time. It immediately lifts me up when I smell it and it’s just so gorgeously fruity and fresh. I’ve been wearing it for years, and I’m surprised I haven’t logged it yet. I’m on my second full size bottle. Gorgeously green, but mainly blackberry. I love her so much I can’t even explain.

Razorbrown

SO GREEN. Like a bleeding twig pulled from a tree. Not necessarily unpleasant but difficult to enjoy as a perfume. Masculine leaning, not the slightest bit sweet or fruity.

GhostRicky

I bought a sample of this product since it was recommended by Fragrantica based on my favorite scent currently which is a body spray from Lush.

This is VERY floral and fresh smelling right off the back with top notes, not entirely getting the feeling or scent of blackberry until it starts drying on you later on.

perfumepearl

Wow. I bling bought a 30 ml bottle without knowing any of the Jo Malone scents. It smells almost like just fresh clean skin. But it's a bit spicy and sweet. Perfectly unisex. This reminds me of winter turning to spring, when the weather is still cold and crisp. The sun is shining and you're wearing something beautiful and simple. Very down-to-earth scent. I can smell the zesty grapefruit and it gives a "happy" quality to this scent. I somehow fell in love with this. It's the epitome of quiet luxury. It's signature scent material. It just screams effortless beauty. The projection is minimal, so it won't offend anyone.
It's a 10/10.

theautumnfaerie

nicely surprised by this one, however i expected something a bit darker in a sense. this JM fragrance surely suits spring weather best, when rain clouds loom above the fresh green fields and blackberry bushes with sun peeking through here and there. reminds me of old disney cartoons like Winnie the Pooh, which was my favourite. won't become my signature scent, though would love to bring it up sometimes to live through my exploring of nature.

the opening is definitely pleasantly tart sweet blackberry, citrus-y and fresh on my skin within first 10 minutes. gotta say, it is way more earthy on clothes, smelling clearly the bay leaf. the sweet-and-sour blackberry lasts for about an hour on skin until it gives way to earthier notes.

after about 2 and a half hours it becomes more of a skin scent, the projection being rather intimate. at this point, the scent is fairly woody and the vetiver comes forward as well. i could smell a tiny spark of (what i happened to identify as) grapefruit still lingering. on clothes it's way more fresh, smelling like bay leaf still.

couldn't smell any floral notes whatsoever.

in my opinion definitely a very unisex scent, perfectly neutral. fits for both day and night wear.

meemaws_cache

I don't see tomato leaf listed on the notes, but it smells like tomato leaf to me. Earthy.

bigtool_4u

Omg it smells like guava flavoured vodka cruisers, the first alcoholic drink of every teen girl in Australia, it's bright pink! Reminds me of the moment I first drank this and how much I loved it and how much anguish drinking has brought to my life haha

meemaws_cache

Very green. Smells incredible. Lady at the counter said that women who wear Wild Bluebell in adolescence tend to move toward this scent as they mature into their 20s. I see what she means. This is a very unique smell, and it is delicious on me. It smells like outdoor exploration.

not_jena

Reminds me of when I would spend hours a day watching zoella, elle fowler, and fleur de force on youtube. I check up on them occasionally and they all have children, but they were MOTHER to me. This is really good I remember falling in love with a sample when i was like 9 lol and now I have the actual bottle. A unique fruity scent that is also sexy.

tolkii

Less fruity then I expected, unisex but more masculine leaning on my skin. The woodiness is dominant with a light hint of grapefruit, I'm not sure if it's the cedar or vetiver giving this a very classic earthy masc base. This is a nice all year scent, I'd wear this on tomboy loafer days.

tomato12

What I smell predominantly is tart blackberries and grapefruit. There's a hint of that celery note others mention, but it doesn't smell as bitter as actual celery—it's more about the freshness and earthiness qualities of celery. It makes the fragrance more 'crisp' smelling. Surprisingly decent, although it's not something that I'd usually reach for i'll be sure to use my sample.

frathead

My first Jo Malone! In the midst of my first wear, it smells right on par with a container of fresh blackberries.

As always, would consider a swap. 3.4oz, USA

h149

My +1 depleted the entire decant I had gotten of this to try, without prompting, and he’s never been in the habit of wearing fragrances. So I sprang for the big bottle for him for Christmas and tried it again myself.

initial bright juicy berry with a hint of camphor and raw wood, just like a blackberry bush, fruit and leaves and stems and all. Like the first time I tried, the blackberry falls back before long and I’m mainly left with the leaves and a smokeless campfire. It’s still overwhelmingly masculine to my nose, a very navy blue, flannel and corduroy sort of scent. LL Bean catalogue in a bottle.

JM’s offerings in general are offensively puritan and flat to me and I honestly hate to give them my money, but this serves his purposes well since he’s only been wearing it to work, and in most work settings it behooves one to be totally sexless. It also has reasonably good longevity and sillage, especially for JM; it lasts him the work day and radiates at arms length for more than half of it. Worthwhile

snoopyQ

I love this herbacious freshness that this cologne exudes. Ohhhh my georgeous!!!
I would categorize this scent as aromatic fresh and unisex…. But ohhhh so good!
LOVE IT!

vibrant.girl

This is in my top 10 for life. I grew up eating blackberries pulled off the bush -- prickles and woody-leaves and all... and this perfume gets it exactly spot-on. The bay makes it feel like you're breathing in the leaves of the plant as well. I think a lot of times people hear 'berry' and think super-sweet, but blackberries are more aromatic and this is one of the few Jo Malone frags where they got a photorealistic scent that's very natural. 10/10.

warmcashmere

I bought my mom the bar soap a few years ago and loved the scent. Bought a decant of the perfume and... straight celery. If I sniff hard enough, there's a little blackberry... way in the background. It's really too bad because the blackberry note was unique to me!

isha2003

its a strong fruity and spicy frag. heavy blackberry, spiciness smells like crushed cloves, but you can sense the leafy element, so ig that makes up for the bay leaves. there is the zestiness in the start, when you smell it citrus -> berry -> bay, its a linear scent. sort of reminds me of a car freshener, something masculine about this. its a herby fresh scent, projection is terrible, sillage non-existence. i still adore the creativity and simplicity, the days you wanna feel simple, don't wanna have a scent bubble but still feel fresh and energetic, you spray this. suitable for any age, inoffensive, unique , i'd rate this a 6/10. i'm still happy i bought it but considering the price, i wish they'd make a perfume version of this cause im in love with the scent itself but not the performance.

Edit; i actually wore this a couple of times, even though i don’t notice the scent on me, others do, so considering that, i’d rate this a solid 8/10. I fell very fond to this scent, jo malone will always be the safe blind buy niche frags, cant wait to try more.

amudrechenko

I love it. It's very fresh and fruity. The blackberry is very strong, and pronounced. I truly love how fruity and green it is. The bay is very zesty and herbal. To me the perfume is very sweet and i agree that to some people it's a bit nauseating. It is a bit synthetic too. Yet, it's still beautiful to me!

ownwin

I can't point out why, but this makes me feel nauseous. My nose refused to smell it more since I opened the top of the bottle.

hinewaikitchen

It's nice and sweet, but I wish the projection was bigger. I have to so several sprays of this to get the projection I want.

e s s e n n s e n

The open is perfection. Blackberry. Bay. Lasting all of a minute before it dries down to a sharp, twangy, sour green. No blackberry. No bay. No herbal freshness. No woods. Just screechy synthetic florals comin’ in hot. Cheap smelling. Disappointing, as I find most Jo Malone.

KerriZ

A punch of Blackberry at the top and a dry down to very close to the skin scent..Until your body ( the weather) heats up then the Bay kicks in surrounding you in a fresh herbal minty-like hue. It lasted on me for about 4 hours. And that is long in the world of JM colognes. It's nice on a hot summer day.

rasputin1963

This scent is vile. Just pure, blatantly synthetic, cheap grocery-store shampoo-ey notes from first spritz to drydown. And not even creatively blended into something memorable. Even total perfume novices could tell that this scent is a ghastly synthetic in every way. And then it dries down into this cutesy, simpering powdery quality, with a bizarre soupçon of...cumin/sweat? Too femme for a man and too butch for a woman. Even Yankee Candle scents smell better than this. Nasty stuff to be avoided at all costs. Doesn't exactly encourage me to investigate OTHER Jo Malone numbers...

Einfinken

I like this scent as a concept and in the bottle, but it is not for me when worn on my skin. On me, the bay overpowers everything else. I get none of the blackberry sweetness I smell in the bottle and only a sense of having just rolled around in a vat of bay leaves out in the forest. I find this leans a little to the masculine and perhaps medicinal as a result. I recognize this as a nice scent and like I said, I love the concept of it, but it is one I will declutter as I hate wearing it. For Jo Malone, it does have a good longevity and sillage though.

Bubbles1964

Above average performance was a nice surprise considering most Jo Malone scents are a disappearing act with my chemistry. Another surprise is the natural, fresh approach: luscious blackberry paired with the herbal quality of bay leaves. This perfume stays light, but lasts for several hours.

SM712

This feels like one of the best “easy reach” perfumes in my collection. It’s exactly what the name says: blackberry and bay. I would have never thought these notes would go together, and yet it’s so good! It’s light, fresh without being soapy or grating, and fruity but the bay prevents it from being overly sweet. It’s great for everyday wear - its sillage is relatively small, which makes it a good choice for most professional environments too. Staying power is pretty average, will usually last about 6-8 hours on me.

merlotwinez

these are eau de colognes. why people are expecting so much longevity? smells like a mixed berries tea

ornazaraii

Gorgeous but such poor performance, sadly..

RachelPhd

Tested this as I have seen it in many lists. The opening scent is so bright and fruity, I loved it. Then when it settled down, I thought I lost the scent completely, but then about an hour in, it really started to shine. It smells like bay leaf and musk to me. Quite earthy. I could smell it on myself and my clothes for hours, so strong longevity in my opinion. My husband didn’t love it on me, saying it was a little old lady like. I agree with previous posters that you could get away with this in an office setting for sure. I think you could wear this spring through fall.

Melody Valentine

It's about as literal as it gets. Starts off pure blackcurrant, actually smells like Ribena, then the bay comes through and makes it more herbal. I get a tiny bit of grapefruit somewhere in between.

Just sprayed my sample for the first time on my hand straight out of the shower and it is quite nice from afar, it smells fresh and clean but up close there is a bit of a BO smell. I'm not a huge fan of blackcurrant in perfume in general though.

It's OK but not really my style. It really reminds me of walking past this small field when I lived in Yorkshire for a bit where wild berries would grow. On days when the leaves were wet it'd smell like this. I'm just not sure I wanna smell like that. I'd love my home to smell like it though.

Lauren387

The opening is lovely, similar to Chance eau tendre without the floral notes, more citrus, and an aromatic herbal undertone. The berries bring freshness and brightness. It’s yummy but not sweet. However, into the second hour of wearing, the bright citrus and berries wane. The bay leaf is nice, but I don’t know if I like it enough on it’s own. Debating whether this is full bottle worthy. If it is, I may get a travel size so I can have it on-the-go to continually reapply.

jzryl

I wish the opening lasted alot longer its so gooooood

henrylll

A rare stand-alone win for Jo Malone London. The top notes are so addictive, the blackberry is honestly insatiable and I can’t describe it any further than that. It quickly dries down into whispers of bay, on my skin in no more than an hour, and from then I get faint reminders throughout the day of the juicy fruits I earlier enjoyed. The top notes seem to really cling to my clothes, instead of skin, which is nice.

This perfume doesn’t make me question my olfactive sense or question the direction of my life but it’s an addictive little escape into the ideals of a perfect crop of blackberries. It’s escapism, and isn’t that the point of JML (along with other luxury houses) ?

Linadanylyuk

First the blackberry and grapefruit notes were perfectly detectable, however after it settled it smelled exactly like a fresh cut chunk of fennel root to me, anyone else??

gandrasta

bay leaves may be difficult for some people to accept. It has a slightly green smell with earthy and leathery notes. Mixed with blackberries and lemon, this cologne is both fun and fresh. It is suitable for men and women on hot days and formal office settings. Love it

RapolasO

The smell reminds me of blackcurrant leaves, love it. However, the longevity on my skin is terrible, which is a pity. The sillage virtually disappears very fast as well, leaving a very intimate fresh and clean scent.
Overall, the scent is beautiful but the performance is very disappointing...

wstark93

This one is interesting. I almost never give a cologne the "like" rating, usually I either love it or hate it, but this one really fills an unusual niche for me that's hard to describe. It reminds me a bit of the fruitiness of Versace Oud Noir (which I highly recommend), but the bay leaves firmly establish it as a daytime fragrance. I think it's perfect for going out for lunch on a rainy summer or spring day. In my mind it only works for that very specific kind of situation, but I still like it quite a bit. Solid 7.5/10, especially given the great resale prices.

alyce

Too much blackberry, not enough bay. I want this to be more green and aromatic. It’s a pleasant scent, but it’s also a perfumey perfume. Blah. And the longevity isn’t great.

Dostoevskywhore

black berry and bay by jo malone is herbal with a blackberry background imagine when your grandma makes you an herbal tea and then drops a couple of blackberries inside it u get blackberry and bay by jo malone an absolute masterpiece Not what I typically would wear but I totally wouldn’t mind wearing it you know I think everyone should smell this perfume it’s quite simple and interesting

J350

Truly unisex. Blackberry and Bay has very good projection and longevity. The bay leaf might give a slight sour hint which might be a little off putting to some and be a outlier to its composition but this can easily be fixed; of course if you are into layering. My suggestion would be layering it with English Pear and Freesia.

Overall, this is a very pleasant unisex fragrance from JM and I would highly recommend this to both sexes. This is perfect in the summer, day or night.

amgenus2015

I really am not fond of the bay leaves smell in the fragrance

pinarkbkc_

It is a sharp aromatic herbal scent with a hint of blackberry in it. As for sillage, I think it has a beastly performance. I tried it on the store, on my hand. I went to gym, took a shower, and washed my hands 3 times. You know what, I still got this smell on my hand after these steps + 8 hours later, A MA ZING!

jbenite4

Yes, Jo Malone so not a sillage monster or overly complex. Yet, this is a great summer and daytime perfume, the bay leaf note is close to photorealistic and the tart blackberry note is savory but not cloying.
For a Jo Malone this stays on the skin for 4-6 hrs with just one spray.
Definitely unisex

NoMilkToday

I adore this scent! And for a cologne, the longevity is pretty good.

graciedoe

I have a love hate relationship with this scent. I get a very tart but not juicy berry, almost like dehydrated in powder form. Then theres that underlying aromatic/medicinal quality of the bay leaves and citrus notes. I think its pretty but for me it leans almost savory, in a weird way, and I cant get past it.

Also, its the perfume my mom wore growing up. And i LOVE my mom, we're super close, but it just doesnt feel like I can make it my own. I have a huge bottle of it sitting on my counter cause she gave it to me a few years ago and I think I'll keep it just to remind me of her but itll never get used for real.

Enrium

Blackberry & Bay is a subtle but nicely-composed scent with some noteworthy elements. Blackberry is an unusual note in perfumery - its cousin blackcurrant appears much more frequently. The bay leaf, while herbal, adds leafy greenness that complements the berry beautifully. Like many Jo Malones, the name is accurate and to-the-point. This scent brings back childhood memories for me - we had a bay tree in the garden, and blackberries were commonly found growing wild in the Irish countryside in the autumn.

BB opens with juicy, tart blackberry, becoming sweeter and more jam-like as it develops. It is beautifully rendered and natural-smelling. The tartness is enhanced by a hint of citrus at the opening that quickly subsides. The bay leaf follows, green and slightly herbal, complementing the wild berry note to perfection, bringing to mind lush greenery.

It becomes slightly powdery as it develops, with a soft woodiness emerging in the base. It becomes slightly musky as it fades. Sillage is intimate and longevity is moderate.

A unisex cologne, BB is best worn as a spring/summer day scent (or autumn for the blackberry to be seasonally appropriate!). Simple but featuring an unusual combination of notes, this composition is nicely composed with good-quality ingredients. Quiet but very decent. 4/5.

vulpini

I wanted the tart blackberry with greenery that most of the reviews described. My first test of this was unfortunately Bay and BO. I don’t think it’s the grapefruit since I have and love other grapefruit scents. Maybe it was that the little bit already in the sprayer tube had turned. Maybe it was something with my skin that day….

I tried it again and got a very herbal and earthy scent. No BO this time but still no blackberry. No hint of fruit, no sweetness at all, just green leaves in an herb garden after the rain. Some of that wet dirt note. The dry-down had a very very slight sweetness, but by then the scent was so weak, I needed my nose right against my wrist to smell it. Overall not a bad scent but not what I was looking for. I wanted a more mature and fresh berry perfume.

Looking at the reviews again, I tried it layered with Red Roses, which I have owned for a while and love. This works! Something in Red Roses brings out some of the blackberry in Blackberry and Bay, and the herbal scent of B&B takes RR from a lush bouquet of roses in a vase to a blooming rose bush, thorns and green leaves, recently watered. A bowl of blackberries on a picnic blanket nearby.

I will try out Blackberry and Bay on it’s own in warm weather to see if I can grow to like it by it self, but for now it works as a layering option for me. I’ll try it out with some of my other Jos and see what it can do.

PickledVibes

I purchased Red Roses along with Blackberry & Bay as a layering combo and it's downright criminal how good they smell together. It's a rose garden, in mid summer, large, bright pink and red roses are everywhere, and the plants have been recently watered. Sun, water, flower and plant project a rich rose, and verdant, earthy green aroma. Around the roses, wild blackberries, with their furry, rough leaves, are scattered, begging you to pick and nibble on. And you're drinking a refreshingly bright, mint-garnished cocktail. Probably something on gin.

Buy both, mix them, and sure, you've paid twice as much, but you've spent less than a single bottle of Creed and have three scents (think about it...) that may be moderate in performance, but vastly more interesting, versatile (you and whomever you're with can both enjoy), and you get to play around with blends. I love each individually. Both are divine.

delrey

super elegant, clean scent with sour blackberry. i just wished this lasted longer, it lasts very little :(

YuliaK

Opens up gorgeously with a tart blackberry. However, it very quickly turns into a soapy skin scent. Not worth purchasing unless you are planning to reapply every hour.

sirenexe

Love, love, love! Works well with my chemistry and, without fail, every time I wear this I receive compliments.

I’ve not come across another perfume quite like it before, it’s uniqueness makes it a standout in my collection! It begins with a tart/sharp blackberry note and mellows to a sweeter scent, but not overpoweringly sweet. I also get slight citrus-y notes too and, of course, the bay.

I feel like it’s one of those scents you’ll either love or hate so definitely test this on your skin before committing to a purchase.

BoxMan

Not what I thought it would be, from the name or the reviews. I was expecting sweet and fruity, but it's more clean and soapy. Definitely unisex. I like it.

Sophia97

These berries give me a little extra oomph for a busy day ahead. It is a feminine combination of notes that one does not smell every day. I love it.

bananapancake

I love love the scents. Opens with sweet blackberry note that's not just sweet but very fresh. As it sits, the scent becomes more bay-dominant. Unfortunately it doesn't last on my skin. Projection is pretty good, but even after a hefty spritz, the scent disappeared in about 2 hours. Therefore, it's a no for me when it comes to actually buying and using this perfume on a daily basis.

likesleet

botanical fruity blackberry. a thornier more garden-y silver mountain water. i do like

April in Paris

I love fruity scents, but I cannot smell the blackberry. I also love citrus scents, but this is a miss for me. In this I get bay, bitter grapefruit, and cedar. Faint medicinal scent. Reminds me of Bitter Orange.

tarajane91

Wow, I wasn't expecting to like this one as much as I do. It opens with the sharp sour blackberry note and greeness, but dries down sweeter. In fact, for some reason I'm getting a mint note though it's not listed and no one else seems to have mentioned it! It's definitely a cool scent I can see working in the spring/summer/early autumn.

I think I need to test this one some more... there may be an update to come.

0phelia

Fresh blackberry opening that slowly shifts to a gorgeous bay note. Fruity, green, slightly sweet and has some depth to it. I can't exactly comment on the longevity because I tested on a blotter at a perfume store, but the scent was strong and lasted quite a while on the blotter.

delrey

my bottle is coming to an end and god, I really do love this scent. it's magical. i picked it up in the airport shop, it was as if the perfume was calling to me. and I'm so glad I bought it. it's just amazing. a sort of whimsical, forest scent if you get what I'm saying. to me it smells like walking through a forest after it rained and coming across a bush of wild blackberries: there is this faint, sweet-sour smell of blackberry in the air mixed with the dampness of the forest air. just wonderful and magical. i use this scent all year around, in the summer it smells fresh and in winter it smells cold and icy in the best way. i love it.

violeteme

Just literal blackberries and bay. Simple to the point of yawn.

svucii

very fresh and clean. the blackberry notes have a sourness to it which sometimes makes my mouth water, and i do notice the grapefruit. i would say this is very unisex. this is definitely one of the most unique scents i have and i love it so much <3

h149

Agree with hunnemannia here - this reads 100% man to me. It smells like a guy gone camping on a cold fall day. On me, it becomes overwhelmingly "Cedar and Vetiver" not "Blackberry and Bay," but on my +1 it's more rounded out; I can pick up the fruitiness, the cool scent of the bay leaf.

Oddly enough, this is the same sort of one-note performance I got out of "Wild Bluebell," which for me should be called "Crisp Persimmon." I don't hate either, but in both cases I haven't smelled one bit like what the fragrance is actually named. Can't help feeling a bit misled...

derby2169

Lovely straightforward blackberry scent, more so blackberry than bay, although admittedly bay has a very delicate scent. A combination of citrus with florals to create tart fruity accords is nothing new (see Pampleluneor or Mûre et Musc) but nonetheless it is successful here.
Definitely something I would appreciate smelling on a woman.

YLC629

My mom wears this perfume and it smells so beautiful and fresh on her. We like a lot of the same fragrances so I figured that I'd sample it. I mostly get kind of a musty cat pee smell from this. Vetiver and grapefruit are both very tricky notes for me so that's probably why

VioletDr

I knew I loved all of these notes since before, except for bay leaves, which I have never smelled before. I just love it. It's fruity, juicy, clean, fresh, aromatic, woody etc. etc... all the things I like. It does not come off as sharp nor masculine to me. To me, this leans feminine, but I think anyone can wear it.

hunnemannia

I'm surprised that this perfume is listed as a women's scent as, at least on my skin, it's quite sharp and masculine. It's probably due to the bay leaf. There's very little blackberry, just barely at the beginning, and the scent is overall very "cold". I imagine frozen berries, leaves and wood when I smell this fragrance. I like it tho, and it projects and lingers longer than most other Jo Malone scents. Layers very well with pretty much any other JM scent I have!

zestybloom

Fresh green pine musk floral slight berry scent I enjoy it I don’t get any cat pee or sweat like others mention just an herb pine citrus berry fresh makes me happy great day time or when you need a pick me up when you don’t want to smell like traditional perfume I don’t like sage and sea salt but this makes me want to keep smelling my wrist

Laurus

After sampling a lot of Escada which all have the same vibe I upgraded to sampling Jo Malone. This is one of the very boring freshy scents. Lime Basil is gorgeous but this one is snooze party.

santal_chantal

Tried to like this but it smells like pure cat piss. I don't smell any blackberry or bay at all. I really tried multiple times to like it. Returned straightaway.

begbud

Smelled nice on paper, but extremely bad on me almost instantly. Like grass or celery!

YLC629

My mom wears this perfume and it smells so beautiful and fresh on her. We like a lot of the same fragrances so I figured that I'd sample it. I mostly get kind of a musty cat pee smell from this. Vetiver and grapefruit are both very tricky notes for me so that's probably why

seank

terrible smells like body odor

mhubbard1961

I like a lot. Reminds me of JM wood sage and sea salt, which I do slightly prefer. Nice soft scent that shouldn't offend anyone. Evokes the outdoors on a rainy October morning. Rather masculine overall.

julyblue

I spent months thinking about this perfume until I was finally able to purchase it! This scent is one of my more unique scents and smells absolutely divine - fresh, earthy, soft, and fruity all at once!

syarashin

I have both of JM Blackberry & Bay and JG Berry & Bay so I can compare both.

JM starts a lil bit sour, think sour berries and young bay leaf. It smells somewhat green and tart. I am not a fan for its initial scent. Luckily it doesn’t stay very long that way. The dry down is a lovely musky blackberry smell with a hint of herby bay leaf.

On the other hand, JG starts with ripe and tart berries. Bay leaf is prominent here. You can definitely smell its aromatic property but it smells linear. So if you like the initial smell, you’ll like it till the end but if you’d like it to morphe into something else, you might want to consider JM.

Sillage is arm’s length, longevity is expected of a cologne. But it’s unfair for a light sprayer like me to criticize its sillage or longevity. And by ‘light sprayer’, I mean only 1-2 spritz per wear. I live in a hot & humid country so I guess that is to be considered as well.

On a side note, I highly recommend layering this with your favourite floral perfume. You'll be delighted with the new scent that, trust me, is out of this world.

Celestya

A green blackberry fragrance with a touch of tea. Perfect for very hot days. Not gourmand for sure.
7/10

--> For summer, in this brand, I prefer Wood Sage & Sea Salt.

c311a

So obsessed with this perfume… it arouses memories of summertime blackberry picking with my sister. I wish I had the money to diffuse this scent through my home

ifffy

One of my favourites from JM. This is a unisex perfume but its such a well done blackberry scent because its not just about the berry: it encapsulates the whole bush. like walking past the bushes and catching the draft that delivers the scent of its leaves and ripe berries into your nose. Its clean, green and woody without being overly sweet and does have an ever slightly spicy quality to it. It gives me confidence, like a boss walking in a suit and black heels.

safira.naila

Like this sooo much!
Very fresh spicy and fruity
On your skin, it lasts very veryyy long. On clothes too, tho not like on skin

Only 1-3 spray is enough to last all day. Very nice and worth the price

CSarwar

Okay, this smells amazing. I literally can’t get enough of it. I have many perfumes but I’m drawn to this one, the longevity isn’t great, I would say moderate. Mind it surprises me because sometimes I can still vaguely smell it 6 hours later. I get compliments on it so other people must still be able to smell it, and it smells like realistic blackberries with a touch of mint in the dry down that leans more feminine than unisex. Gorgeous!

PeachPerfume

A quintescenntial blackberry bomb. Very fresh, fruity and fun. While I quite like the scent in the abstract, I think it might be better as a room spray for the home. There is something a bit simplistic about the scent (and not in an elegant way), and its also a bit too sweet.

Hbblonde

This is the best Jo Malone scent out of them all. It is so interesting and unique. I have not come across anything else that smells quite like this. A real mood lifter, it’s so bright and fresh. I get tons of compliments on this. One of my top 2 favorite perfumes for sure

isakaz

I'm addicted to the smell of this.
It's a very realistic black berry to me. This does not smell like a perfume at all, it's very green, leafy, woody, foresty, outdoorsy... but also juicy like an actual cocktail.
I don't know if I want to smell like this though but I keep smelling my arm hmmm...maybe as a room diffuser. I've only been to urban outfitter's once years ago but somehow I can imagine the store smelling like this.

DaydreamExpert

A tangy, slightly sour, berry opening that wants to make the sides of my mouth water. That part is very natural smelling, but as it dries down it turns into the drydown of Victoria Secret's Bombshell.

alexblack000

I really love this fragrance. It’s fresh, unisex and green. I get more of grapefruit in the beginning, but then the promised blackberry and bay show. I have been looking for a summer scent for ages, and I have found it with this one.

However, this perfume is weak and doesn’t last long. This is essentially a skin scent, so I don’t think it’s worth spending this much money on something that you will smell for about an hour or two.

I compared a sample of Jo Malone’s B&B with a dupe for this scent by a local brand. They don’t advertise their perfume as a JM dupe, but I found that they smell identical, the dupe being more long-lasting, so this is what I eventually settled for.

Therefore, to get longer projection, I’d recommend getting a good dupe. They might not be 100% identical, but I managed to find a very good one that I chose over the original simply because of the price and longevity.

Koummya

Save yourself some time and just buy Diptyque's L'Ombre Dans L'Eau EDP if you're jonesing for an intensely green & slightly fruity/sweet scent - but lasts a decent amount of time. Also, like others have said, there's something in this that's tangy - in a vinegarette way in the background, not tangy as in tart blackberry. I wish this was just a sweet blackberry jam with a herby and leafy quality but no, it's just a little messy. I do actually like it though. I just don't love it, which makes me hate it.

This will be the last (clear bottle) Jo Malone London I'll review on here as they're all kind of the same - pleasant, unbelievably expensive room sprays that last ABSOLUTE MAXIMUM 45 minutes.

Artio

A delicious blackberry in the opening with fresh grapefruit and woody bay leaf that dries down into a woody bay leaf scent. I wish the blackberry stuck around on me

AK2

@Dramaloladiva hit the nail on the head describing this fragrance . That was spot on , it smells exactly like a salad 🥗 I would add some basil to that berry vinaigrette. It’s very refreshing and I love sniffing my decant but I wouldn’t wear it myself.

saekki

this one broke my heart. i thought i finally found the perfect berry scent - something fresh and slightly sweet that wasn't sullied with the usual gourmand or floral notes.

i got that for maybe twenty minutes before i started smelling like the inside of an abercrombie and fitch in 2012

Marcielle

Smells like cheap deodorant. I don't like it at all. At the beginning, the blackberry stands out but in 10 minutes it changes and smells like masculine deodorant (not the good ones). I'm obsessed with Jo Malone's fragrances, but this one isn't for me.

pearl_999_aog

I have had quiet a few of Joe Malone’s perfumes. This one I got only to layer it with my Joe Malone Jasmine and Sambac perfume. These two are AMAZING together. Try this combo if you haven’t already. Love how the two fragrances mix together and make the jasmine smell so much more interesting. I would not wear this by it’s own.

Gioia's secret

It smells like mojito with Sprite at the beginning but ….
Downsides: it lasts only 2 hours and at dry down it smells like mix of deodorant with sweat

Dramaloladiva

Perhaps it is the bay leaves but this smells like a very appealing and most delicious bowl of salad sprinkled with the most wonderful vinaigrette, you know, the kind that is infused with berries…So, do I want to smell like salad with a wonderful vinaigrette? Um…no, no thank you!
Darn it, now, I have to get my hands on some berry infused vinegar to sprinkle on my salad 😅😅😅🫐🍓🥬🥗🥬🥗

Small Addendum: this does not in any way shape or form smell identical to the Beautiful Rouge Trafalgar by Dior!!!
Rouge Trafalgar smells sweet and juicy and musky!!♥️❤️🍓🍒🍎❤️♥️☁️☁️

looraw

A tangy, herbaceous and earthy concoction. It is fresh, while also remaining quite grounded and wholesome. For me, this conjures images of 19th century England - or of a freshly watered garden on a hot summer’s evening.

The ultimate fragrance to wear while gardening, or baking bread.

SmellyDog

Very crisp fragrance, on my skin it is one smell throughout but that is fine by me. Get a slightly tart fruitiness but mostly just a very sharp green scent. Lasts about 5 minutes on my skin. On my clothes it is a different story. Stunning.

tonkatsu335

When sniffed up close, it smells like a juicy aroma of blackberries mixed with the armpits odor.
When wafted from a distance, it smells like a barbershop.
It feels like it is for men.

mrshnchnkm

It's unisex. I don’t smell blackberries at all, but it smells nice, fresh bay leaves and pine needles.

Rozalina

This is like a blackberry mojito, with more mint leaves than muddled blackberry. It’s crisp and refreshing, and smells like an expensive hair product that you can only buy from an upscale salon.

Lefeuvre76

This reminds me so much of making Elderflower cordial as a child. Straight off the bat this is a pungent, freshly picked Elderflower smell. I love it for that.

oreoisacat

pretty unique and not the sweet fruitiness I was half expecting, but I'm not sure if I would like this on me. like someone below, I smell a lot of mint actually, which is not necessarily bad but it does give off a herbal ointment kind of scent after a while. it smells a little masculine but not the kind I hope my husband smells like.

leahh3364

This fragrance is a dream. Brings me to the sunny coast picking berries with my sister as a child, eating two for every one we put in the basket. I layer this with an oil dupe for longevity, its not great on its own in that regard. In the summer, it smells sweeter, like a juicy berry and the colder weather highlights the herbaceous bay note. Definitely unisex and a comfortable fragrance for just about any occasion.

emma katherine

I purchased this for my mom as she likes "tangy" fragrances and this is spot on. It's a very realistic blackberry scent and I think this would layer perfectly with any fresh floral that you're looking to make a bit more unique

lordbig

I smell fresh blackberries for a minute, then it just turns minty on me. Not really bay, just...a spearmint bush. Pass

Sanrio

After my highly negative experience with a sample, I wondered if I had gotten something mislabeled or something that had turned. So a year later, I got another sample. Nope.

I really don't understand the "realistic" comments.

There is a slightly realistic berry scent for about .2 seconds. Something naturalistically leafy (violet leaf? tomato lead?) as well. Then it turns into a mess. I get cypress/juniper, herbs (bay perhaps,) acidic grapefruit/citrus, earthiness, and a bunch of cheap soap. Maybe there's a blackberry after thought.

It's incredibly masculine and generic. An old school fresh aftershave but worse.

And of all the Jo Malones I've tried, this is the only one that lasted longer than a fart in the wind. Of course. (3-4 hours.)

badinlatin

Every summer growing up I picked wild blackberries on the west coast. This smells exactly like that. One smell and I'm transported back to the the island in late August, picking berries fresh off the vines. It's such a natural-smelling scent, the blackberry fresh and unsweetened. I understand why that wouldn't be to everyone's taste, but I absolutely adore it. I've been looking for something just like this.

janevee

A realistic and refreshing albeit common berry scent. I thought I would like it more. I prefer something less sour so I need to layer it to balance it out.

KladfvbungMicshk

This smells exactly like a blackberry vine I had once! It isn’t so much fruity as it is the leaves of the blackberry; or maybe the green slightly-bitter scent of an unripe blackberry. If you like nature scents I think this is a safe purchase, specifically for spring or summer & daytime. It doesn’t strike me as gourmand but more of a gardening/walking in the woods kind of scent. I can’t imagine someone not liking this, unless they dislike the outdoors or if they bought this expecting more sugary fruit and less leaves. It’s important to note though that this, along with a lot of other Jo Malone fragrances, unfortunately doesn’t last very long.

Stwmylos

Even though it opens up nice, I do not like this one, because there is an unsuccessful combination of herbal, spicy and slightly sweet elements that renders it cloying and uninteresting.

Completely feminine.

kkaattjjeess

The top notes of this remind me of when you remove the stem from cocktail tomatoes, it smells identical to me. As much as I consider it a yummy aroma and I always smell the stems of the cocktail tomatomes right after ripping them off, I myself would rather not smell like it.

Does't last, doesn't project, we all know that of Jo Malone scents by now (I think the black bottles are better in that regard), I consider this overpriced for what it is.

My review was based on an official sample. I own the Jenny Glow version (judge me hard) and that one actually smells like blackberry, bay and mint from the get go. I like to use it on the rare hot days we have where I live. I prefer it to the original.

fondeux

This review is based on a decant, sprayed on my inner wrist:

Blackberry & Bay is the first fragrance I've tried that really "evolves" on me - granted, my experience is rather limited! The first spray smells like someone took a grapefruit peel and squeezed it - zesty, tangy, citrusy without smelling like cleaner. My nose isn't developed enough to pick out the blackberry, but perhaps it was hiding in the grapefruit notes. As it sat on my skin (after about 2 hours), the bay leaf notes gradually bloom, beautifully co-existing with the grapefruit, adding a minty, herbal complexity to the citrus. At some point the woody notes take over, giving way to a muted rose and white floral mix after 5-6 hours.

This was definitely more of a refreshing fruity rather than a sweet fruity, and decidedly unisex.

8.8/10

hexed

Opens with the most gorgeous, hyper-realistic berry to me, taking me back to my childhood days playing in the yard. Drydown is pleasantly herbal, but not something to write home about.

Liliana Ângelo

I live near by a giant bay leaf tree and I can tell you that this is the most true to reality scent of bay leaf (fresh, not the dry one we use in culinary).

My first impression when I smelled this paper strip, was that I stepped on blackberries bushes trying to pick some to eat, something I did a lot as a child! I immediately connected with this scent for that but also for its fresh opening (without sourness or overpowering crispness).

It was a blast of amazing green leafs and berries. Not sweet but not sharp!

Lasts accordingly to the fact that it's a cologne.

lunarambrosia

This smells like Diptyque's Baies candle without the rose, just the blackberry and the green note. It's nicely done but I think it would be hard for me to shake the association, feeling like something is missing.

theymightbejenny

If you like bay, you're going to love this. I figured I would like it, but didn't expect it to be quite so refreshing. The berries here are freshly picked off the bush, not like a sugary jam. And the bay leaf is fresh and green (of course), not dried like you might be used to smelling from your spice rack. I think this is solidly unisex, nothing too sweetie femme or barbershop masc - it sits in a very neutral, botanical place. I find that this lasts longer than WSSS (the only other Jo I have to compare), but it doesn't aggressively project or anything. I love layering this with Demeter Firefly to add a wet grassy element - it gives the feeling of drinking a tall glass of water in the summertime. I always assumed citruses to be the pinnacle of freshness, but this guy beats them all. Love it.

frc2n

Blind bought this and it was love at first spray. This is a very light and refreshing scent that leans more unisex than feminine to me. The blackberry and bay notes are very realistic; the blackberry is tart and sweet but not in a syrupy overpowering way. The only downsides apart from the price point are the soft sillage and poor longevity, but that's just how it is with most Jo Malone fragrances anyways.

blackw0lfx

on my skin it is bay and blackberry. The blackberry is very fleeting on my skin. To me this smells like a nice bathroom or a spa. more masculine to me. I do not really like it on my skin and I do not want my husband to smell like this either. It also gives him a headache. Fine for professional although I do not like it enough to say it smells good. I actually think if I had a coworker wearing this I would not be happy. Ugh.

Iaespinozad

Other of my big favorites from Jo Malone London. Sweet and sour blackberries, freshly picked from the blackberry. Memories of childhood, that grapefruit that adds more acidity, visits to the fields, blackberry jams for breakfast. Very cute, cuddly, clean. I love layering with Poppy and Barley for a more cottagecore vibe, or with Wild Bluebell for a greener and more aquatic touch, like a picnic by the side of a swampy lagoon.

Daisy_D

When I first sniffed the perfume at the airport, somehow I did quite like I, even though I can't really remember the feeling now. However, later when I had it home, I no longer like it anymore. On me the sourness of the blackberry was stronger than the sweetness which made the perfume a bit unpleasant. : (

I had the 100ml sat for more than a year without much use until recently I took it out again. I am not sure if there was some chemical change within the perfume or the pH value in me had varied, the perfume smells greener. Now, it is a good balance of greenness, slightly sweet, floral and fruity. It is young. It is feminine. It is soothing being sprayed in the air before sleep and after waking up. : )

Glyph

This smells like simple blackberry jam to me, which is quite pleasant, but not something I wish to smell like.

When layered with the much more powerful Lime Basil and Mandarin, I liked this much, much more, and I would assume it pairs well with other Jo Malone fragrances. On its own, though, it seemed to me more like half a fragrance rather than a full one. It's nice, but lacks complexity.

sandrajj

Thinking about a new fragrance for spring, and Nordstrom inserts a sample of Blackberry & Bay by Jo Malone into my shipment. Surprise! Finally a Jo Malone that lasts longer than 1 hour!! I realize this frag has been around for years, but I've been off Jo Malone for years myself. Tired of spending $$$ and having to use up the whole bottle spritzing throughout the day to retain any sort of evidence I was actually wearing a cologne! This, however, is still going strong after 5 hours, although it has evolved and softened somewhat. I think I like it!

clemmy

Lovely creation. The combination of blackberry and bay is a heavenly match. Unfortunately the persistence and the price tag are not matching. It is a very expensive moment of happiness. 3/5

yunaluna

i see a corporate honcho type bagging a deal that will destroy a hundred small local businesses over a champagne lunch. afterwards they take a steam bath to "unwind" and "center oneself" after another day of hard work. they step out of the bath. they sigh. they spray Blackberry & Bay all over their warmed towels and robes.

there's something pleasurably soul-less about all jo malone scents. and it's not just their overly precious aesthetic or the criminal sillage & performance. the scents themselves are trapped in ice, aloof and unyielding. and that's not always bad. sometimes it's wonderful. i like wearing B&B and walking around the city pretending i can be an ice queen too.

JoLeenS80

I always wanted to try this however I read an article by a woman who was well versed in fragrances...someone asked her why she never reviewed anything by Jo Malone and she said because all of her fragrances are eau de Cologne and not worth the hefty price tag. This always stuck with me and I wonder why she charges over $100 for Cologne spray. Her line sounds overpriced and gimmick-y...imo

Kariganreider

When I first sprayed this onto the card, the first thing it brought me to was an incredible blackberry wine a friend has brought to a party. Heady, recognisable, with a bit of sparkle. On the dry down they bay comes through with a background waft of flowers. The fragrance disappears on me fairly quickly, and I would forgive it if the heady blackberry stayed past the initial spray. Overall very enjoyable, reminds me of the wine and berry picking along the coast.

GenevaX

I agree with other reviewers: this is not only unisex, but is far more successful at being unisex than many fragrances that market themselves as such. Realistic blackberry and bay leaf are both front and center to my nose, forming a beautiful balance of aromatic and tartly fruity. The citrus and cedar are prominent, but they allow the two main players to take center stage, at least at first, since the berry is the first note to fade. But the woody-herbal fragrance that remains is just as nice, if a bit more masculine. The one downside is that the fragrance is pointedly artificial and clean smelling, bordering on the smell of higher-end men's grooming products. But it's much more interesting than a lot of scents I've come across that fit a similar brief. Admittedly I've turned my nose up at Jo Malone in the past - too preppy, tasteful, and boring, I thought. Between this and Wood Sage & Sea Salt, I really have to put aside my prejudices, because these are some solidly good scents.

Raina

I'm surprised this is categorized as a feminine fragrance, it is absolutely unisex and leans masculine to my nose. This fragrance morphs from a fruity and slightly spicy scent to a cedar and bay leaf smell in the dry down. It starts off with a pleasant mixture of blackberry and sage, the sage most likely being the result of bay leaf and cedar. The blackberry is very polite and not overly sweet, which is in tune with the rest of the fragrances from this brand. It smells so lovely, and that initial application is what lead me to almost purchase a full bottle. It's like walking through a forest with a handful of blackberries to snack on later.

Then the dry down happens and this turns into a scent I cannot stand. The blackberry disappears entirely and the bay leaf and cedar take over. It smells like men's deodorant, which is not entirely unpleasant but not something I want to smell like. It does not seem to matter where I spray this scent, on myself, on paper, on a napkin, the blackberry does not stay.

Wwoman

I was hoping to get some bay leaves out of this one, but it starts as a lemon bomb and progresses to watery, slightly berry, nothingness on me. Granted I am not a huge fan of fruity fragrances, but this one I thought had potential because it isn't sweet. I like other Jo Malone fragrances, this one just doesn't dry down well with my skin chemistry.

aqua76239

this was a blind buy in combination with Wood Sage and Sea Salt. Its citrusy, fresh with hints of blackberry. It can easily be unisex but it leans over to feminine side. I like it, and it actually works if layered with Wood Sage and Sea Salt. I prefer gormands but this is nice for change of pace, on cool fall day. For some reason, this doesn't feel very summery to me at all. PRobabbly because it has a slight spicy feel

KylieBooFace

This is ok. It's fresh and a bit sweet. It's bit too woody for me but I see why people like it.

catswearingperfume

This is a fresh, slightly herbal blackberry. Fruity but not sweet or even the slightest bit syrupy. I see that many people like this for summer, but for me this is absolutely a cold weather scent! If I wear this when it's hot or humid, the herbal note is stronger and less appealing - bordering on acrid. But when it's even the slightest bit chilly? Perfection. The blackberry dominates and herbal note simply harmonizes and makes the composition veer green instead of juicy, like you're smelling the whole blackberry bush.

I love layering this with JM's Wood Sage and Sea Salt body cream. In the winter, I'll top it off both the Blackberry & Bay and the Wood Sage with a few spritzes of Poppy & Barley. That trio gives off fresh, cheery, slightly spicy holiday vibes with a fruity twist.

I find the JM body creams to have better longevity than the sprays. But I am super heavy handed with my JM sprays, and get a satisfactory amount of lasting power and projection when sprayed on my clothes.

This fragrance goes well with breakfast in the garden, a picnic, a fresh warm summer morning, airy dress, a carefree weekend. For warm and sunny early autumn days as a memory of the Summer.

This is one of my first Jo Malone fragrances. I like to combine it with Nectarine Blossom & Honey of the same brand, it extends the longevity of the fragrance and makes the fragrance a bit more complex.

However, I don't go back to it often and I am not likely to buy it again. Jo Malone colognes smell the same all day long and I like dynamic fragrances.

ADVANTAGES:
Pleasant fruity fragrance
Lasts about 6 hours

DISADVANTAGES:
No projection on my skin

humairum

Completely agree with Lisajmunro,

I absolutely love this juice and it has been my signature scent in most of my early thirties. It’s finally wearing off a bit but I love it nevertheless.
Juicy slightly sweet blackberries with fresh bay leaf, yup that’s what I get from it.

9.5/10

lisajmunro

I love blackberry notes in fragrances, and this is no typical blackberry. This is like a blackberry bush, not sweet blackberry juice. On me, this is a bit soapy and foresty, clean, woody and crisp. It's complex enough that I don't really know how to describe it. It's beautiful though.

This isn't "fruity" in a young and girly way, this is mature, very comforting and put-together.

It lasts longer on me than I thought it would - at least a good few hours - but the sillage is pretty soft. I can only really smell it on myself if I put my nose to my wrist, and sometimes when I move my hair.

I do really enjoy it, not sure if I'd actually pay the price for it though (I just have a little sample).

KayleeAp

I love this fragrance! I haven't smelled anything similar to it. It's bright, fresh, crisp, very much a unisex offering. It reminds me of walking in a fresh berry filled green forest through spring rain (though there isn't a woods note to me - just more the feeling of fresh). Appropriate scent if you want to feel like you are sharp and on point. Layers very well with JM's nectarine & honey, and wild blue bell. It lasts many hours on me, and is one of JM's scents with better longevity. Sits fairly close to the skin.

ekowala7

I feel like there is a lot of hate towards Jo Malone, especially concerning the longevity of the fragrances. In thinking about their hero skews of Peony & Blush Suede, Wood Sage and Sea Salt and this offering - I REALLY like 2 out of the 3, with this offering being my favourite.

This smells fresh, clean and bright but also really grounded in the bay leaf, which feels so so unique. For some reason, this brings me specifically to Thanksgiving time when I was younger, with my mom cooking and prepping the stuffing, with the kitchen window open - blowing in the fall breeze and the scent of leaves and dampness outside. This is NOT cloying sweet or 'girly fruity', this is pure class!

Longevity for me is surprising - I get a good 5-7 hours on this fragrance and silage is soft. This is sort of what I wanted Versace Dylan Blue to be - in that fresh apple blossom way - but DB goes too fruity. This fragrance focuses on the scent of the leaves of the blackberry and bay leaf - it's simple stunning. Long story short, is it 100% worth the price? Probably not. But is perfume ever? It's luxe!! And for me, this brings me back to great memories and I truly love it.

Overall 7.5/10

Atomikbomb_

I will echo what other astute Fragranticans have stated; this is absolutely unisex and slightly more masculine with time. I like that about it though.

I do also relate to what people often fret about with JM frags (this being my first to try), it doesn't have great performance. I don't think it's abysmal for a cologne though.

As far as notes go, it's a simple garden-y fragrance that opens with lovely grapefruit, very tart, and not unlike the grapefruit in The Scent of Peace (for her). It soon burns off though, and the mid-ending experience is a slightly masculine (bay is decidedly masculine to me) marriage of the bay and berry. The cedar is tastefully present and not screeching.

An easy-going, enjoyable fragrance for summer or spring (I'd prefer to save my sample until the end of August when the blackberries grow).

lilt

As others have said, this should be considered unisex, and not just for women. This actually leans masculine because of the drydown.

I'm really surprised not many people (that I've read the reviews for) talked about the drydown of this.

This opens up like a bright blackberry. I loved how juicy and fruit it smelled. The bay was just an added bonus. But the drydown was the deal breaker. It smells like a cheap man's cologne. I'm not sure if it's just my skin chemistry.

Do not blind buy!

Since Blackberry & Bay entered my collection a couple of years ago, it has become one of the most-worn in my wardrobe. It opens with a tart sparkle of grapefruit and berries. The initial zing quickly gives way to a mellow, lactonic blackberry. Imagine walking through an orchard, or, perhaps less exotically, the produce section of the grocery store in summer, when the air is thick with the smell of ripe fruits: their velvety skins, their green leaves and stems. The bay leaf provides a tinge of a dry paper smell, and further into the wearing, one can increasingly sense the presence of clean, woody cedar. On some days, for me it's joined by white flowers. While the smell speaks of wholesome outdoor spaces, I somehow also think of rich, luxurious body products and creams. This is a fragrance I will probably always want in my collection for its easy refinement. As is true of many Jo Malone's, Blackberry & Bay is not especially loud. However, I have no problem smelling it all day long, and I highly recommend it.

GlacialImpala

As soon as it hits your skin it smells like tomato leaf. Oh god yes! Oh god no, it should smell like blackberries. But I love tomato leaves, yes! Would I like to wear them, though...
By the time you're done pondering the role of tomato leaves in your life (thankfully?) that strong top note is gone. Now your nose is kind of desensitized and you think 'Hell, this scent is just way too faint now, I'm not even sure what I'm smelling'. But you like what you sense. It's a faint mix of dark berries, but not maybe the fruit exactly, maybe how you imagine the green bits would smell if you crushed them. The fruit note is more like a very good soap named Blackberry. So... bathing in the garden in which someone grows blackberries and quite possibly, tomatoes? Okay, that's a pretty good score in my book.

EnergeticCrab

This is a LOVELY fragrance that, to me, captures a summer fruit and vegetable garden. It's a lovey mix of berry, herbs,
turned earth, sour leaves, and dry woods. Truly unique, and an example of the variety perfume can provide. It's both modern and country. Very nicely done.

Franny85

When I first sprayed this I thought that I loved it, it smells really nice and fresh initially but once it had sat on my skin it started to turn sour, I didn't realise that it had grapefruit in it when I bought it and I'm pretty sure that's what has made it that way on me. It really reminds me of a perfume that my friend used to wear in the 90s, although I can't remember what it was at the moment 🤔
I liked it on her, but on me it just smelt sour and odd. Oh I wish I could remember what it was, it's on the tip of my tongue and the dry down is exactly like it!
I tried layering it with wood sage and sea salt hoping that the sweetness of that would balance it out but alas no, that sour note is still coming through strong 😒 gutted...
Also it will be the grapefruit that is making people liken it to the smell of BO I believe, as grapefruit can do that, although I'm not getting the BO smell from it myself thank goodness!

Update: I think the scent I was thinking of is Boss Woman, although can't be sure unless I smelt it again if that's the correct one.

oliviaxday

A great perfume. very light and fresh; something any aged woman would like. As with all jo malone perfumes, theres not much longevity. I have a great memory of being in Manhattan as a teen, and because of that, I will always love it. Although it is light and fresh, something many perfumers choose for women, it is still unique enough to love and adore as your own

Tamlin

Delicious!

Really smells like fresh blackberries. Sweet but fresh, deliciously zesty. Very gourmand in the sense that it smells like a piece of candy or a refreshing drink that I would gladly devour.

The sweet fruityness might make it lean a bit feminine or juvenile, but the zesty darkness of the blackberry keeps it unisex and fairly mature.

I honestly don't understand why this is marketed as "for women" while e.g. Velvet Rose & Oud is marketed as unisex, even though that is decidedly more feminine than this, at least to my nose.

Many of the other scents in the Jo Malone cologne line just smell like fancy soap to me, but this one is barely soapy at all. It just smells really natural, fresh and outright mouth-watering.

Gummybear002

Why isn't think JM's most popular? This is a stunning late summer/early fall choice. The blackberry is amazing and tonally convincing, and the bay is like an old barbershop note. It's refreshing and great for casual meetups.

GinCatsBooks

Blackberry & Bay is sublime, a very good alternative choice to the normal sorts of late summer/autumn fragrances that are about, that said I do think this is perfect for the height of summer too, its herbal and refreshing.

It opens up with a fresh, sharp blast of grapefruit which mellows out and reveals a basket of freshly picked blackberries, and I have to hand it to JM, this is an amazing realistic interpretation of a blackberry based scent, nothing synthetic or chemically in here whatsoever. The grapefruit and blackberries intertwine and a herbal, green snap of bay comes out with some mild, floral notes to round it all off.

This is purely unisex and I can picture it on anyone, its elegant, classy and very country garden-like. Longevity is decent, I get about 6-7 hours wear from this and as with all JM scents, close to skin silage, again, it lasts for ages on clothes so if you want to extend its life, mist your clothes or a scarf as well as your skin.

This also smells divine when its layered with English oak & Hazelnut, it adds some extra depth and complexity :)

chipsotoole

I think the secret to this one is to use it when layering. I bought a small 9ml travel bottle to try it out. Nice enough on it's own, quite a linear scent and very unisex..bordering on more masculine.I don't get much floral here.. The usual short JM sillage will be enough to annoy most folk. But using it sparingly to layer a bit of citrus/berry bite to a scent and it becomes a monster. It seems to latch onto many the existing 1st spray notes, compliments them, and improves them as both layers go through their life cycles. If you're looking to create your own signature JM scent this is a must for your toolbox, regardless of gender.

BerryRose

I purchased this the year of its launch (2012), loved it, finished my bottle, and then forgot about it. I rediscovered it this year when I started collecting perfumes again. It's easily one of my favourite autumn fragrances.

I love the idea of fruity florals but find most are too saccharine for me, whereas this is clean, fresh, and woodsy. It has the natural sweetness of blackberries as well as their sour tartness. Yes, this is a fruity scent, but it's also quite green, wet, and mossy, making it more sophisticated than most berry fragrances. Imagine walking through a forest after it has just rained looking for blackberries. This perfectly captures the natural ratio of berries to greenery on a blackberry shrub, with blackberries hidden in the brambles among the leaves.

velvetflowers

This smells as promised: blackberry (lots of it) and bay. Generally pleasant and fresh-fruity. Somewhat herbal too. It's unisex, but leaning towards masculine for me.

Now I see the reviews talking about how it smells like BO. Oh god... I liked this a lot at first, but now I can't get past it! There's that very very faint hint of it, and I think it's a fruit note. Perhaps the grapefruit? I don't find it repugnant or rancid, but now that someone's talked about it... it is quite difficult to get past it. Still, the longer it lasts, the better it smells and the BO-ish fruity note becomes less striking. This lasted around 8 hours on my skin.

Not my kind of scent but quite good. I think I'll give my bottle away to a guy friend or something.

Boireen

I was pleased to receive a sample of JM blackberry and bay and looking forward to giving it a go. I quite like a more fruity scent and thought this might be a nice change from my poppy and barely that I am currently wearing. I’m pleased I only placed a small amount on my wrist as the initial smell was so unpleasant I gagged! The overpowering smell of BO was repugnant! It took me straight back to high school after a PE lesson in an Australian summer, the smell of the girls change room mixed with impulse body spray, not nice at all. So very disappointed.

fyetan

Echoing a lot of the reviews that it smells like BO!
It's like one of those pictures that looks like two things (a duck and a hare, anyone?). I know it's the grapefruit but once I read that some people are smelling BO, I can't un-smell it! Keeps flipping back and forth.

style1015

I really love this fragrance. Performance is average and it sits close to the skin, but I'm absolutely in love with this scent. I actually view this scent as more of a fall/winter fragrance, although it's certainly versatile, as most seem to like it in the spring/summer. For me this reminds me of a winter berries in a forest. I would definitely try it out if you want a more green/woody/fresh spicy/herbal vibe in the winter, instead of the plethora of warm spicy/oud/gourmand/sweet/heavier fall and winter fragrances.

This scent reminds me of nature, but not in an overly green sort of way. It's woody and herbal with that berry smell. Really, what I get is it's late fall, and you go out with boots and a warm coat into a woody forest and you find berry bushes. Your fingers become stained by the berries and your hands are a bit cold in the weather.

Anyway I hope that helps. Again, with many JM fragrances projection isn't intense and it has moderate longevity, but the scent is so special to me. I'm going to repurchase a bigger size.

(Also it's great when you layer with Wood Sage and Sea Salt)

8.5/10, would be a 9.5/10 for just the smell but performance could be better

Annemarie

Gpesav, it would be the grapefruit that would be smelling of BO to you. It's a known feature of this note. Not everyone gets the association (I don't) but some do. Scroll down and read some reviews.

I'm testing a sample of Blackberry and Bay and not finding much in it. Shortlived and bland. I'll apply a bit more next time I try it. I do like the idea of it.

gpesav

I’m actually so upset about this one. I have read/watched reviews of people raving about this. It is one of Jo Malone’s most popular scents. However, on me, I only get the smell of body odor. Where is the clean and fruity scent everyone is talking about? Am I the only one that smells it? I tried just spraying it on my clothes, even on a tester strip just to see if it might just be bad body chemistry....but still body odor.

Wish this could have worked for me. On the plus side, this scent lasts pretty long.

boxlunchvinny

I think this scent is pretty unisex. It does not strike me as overly feminine. It's slightly more masculine to my nose. I think it's the bayleaf and grapefruit. These two notes give it a fresh spicy vibe that's uniquely presented yet has a
somewhat similar vibe to other men's colognes. The floral and fruity notes give it a softness, adding femininity. I would like to wear this for myself, on a hot day maybe at the beach or at a pool party. But because of it's weak projection and longevity I would also use when around smaller circles. But not intimate company, it's not a bedroom fragrance in my opinion.

I'm still relatively new to fragrances, and this is one of my first niche scents. I only have a sample of this and Pomegranate Noir, which I will wear on a cooler autumn day/night.

Aland2020

I've been craving this scent nonstop since the first day of September. Which in my mind is the true first day of fall, calendars and equinoxes be damned. It could really be worn all year round. There is just something about the way this scent radiates as the leaves begin to change outside and the days grow shorter that I can't describe.

A bush of ripe blackberries in a green piney forest. There's miles and miles of trees and shrubs and you pluck one single berry and bite into it. It's tangy, tart and mildly succulent. There's very little sweetness; this perfume is obtaining effortless authenticity without trying too hard to go for the obvious. Most berry centric scents are overloaded with sugar, making the fruit smell like it comes in a can of syrup. This smells like a real berry growing in the wild, in its natural element untouched by man. The green notes are prevalent but toned back. Many perfumes attempt to sell the idea of green forestry by overloading on cheap resinous oils that allude to a Christmas candle or tree-shaped car freshener from the supermarket. This does not. It is the clean air in the middle of nature with the scent of trees lightly wafting around you in the cool breeze. That cool breeze reminds me of the air of fall.

This fragrance could be amazing to layer with, yet I haven't tried because I'm savoring every spray from my tiny travel bottle. Once it is finished, and the largest bottle available is in my possession, the possibilities will be endless. Now I'm a big fan of Jo Malone fragrances and that must be mentioned, but this is one of, if not, my absolute favorite scent in their entire catalogue, including discontinued limited editions. For anyone who is looking to try a Jo Malone, whether you're male or female, young, old or somewhere in between any of those, this scent is a must experience.

It's not the longest lasting scent, even for Jo Malone standards. I find many of their scents which people complain about having lackluster performance do really well on my skin, and most of their fragrances perform better on the skin than on clothes. This is one of the few exceptions to that rule. I love how this smells on my skin, but it only lasts about 3 hours max. To increase this, I spray a bit on my clothes and find this makes it last later into the day. But most often, I cannot control myself from applying a light touchup on my skin, as the smell of this fragrance once it's freshly sprayed in the air gives me absolute joy.

Schelly

I have a strange relationship with the Jo Malone brand of cologne. So far all the ones I have samples of ( By samples I mean the mini sprays) and have tested out on my skin , remind me of other smells. Like dupes for everyday smells or other perfumes. I don’t find them very unique. Not that a fragrance has to be unique to enjoy it but for the price I would think they would be just a tad bit. Plus the fact that most do not have very good longevity or silage. Don’t get me wrong I don’t think they are bad scents but I do think maybe they are more in the line of body sprays in a pretty glass bottle. ( honestly which is why I wanted to like them enough to splurge on one.but I can’t justify it)
For example ;
To ME Wild bluebell smells exactly like prescriptives Calyx. (That I wore for a long time and I have a full bottle of from yrs ago). Calyx Being long lasting and protects.

Blackberry and bay smells like Barbasol shaving cream .

Maybe I just have a simple nose and it’s just me.

Lil Mju

I think this is currently my least favorite Jo Malone cologne, which is funny because it's one of the brand's most successful fragrances.

One of the best things about it is that the blackberry feels natural - not a sweet and flat note, but a tangy, "itchy" one; it's how a blackberry on a bush actually smells. Well, or maybe that's the bay.

However, this is exactly what made it unbearable for me. As soon as I spray it on my skin, it smells like sweat - pardon the details, but it's that gross, worn-in sweat smell that you get when you've worn a t-shirt a couple of times having skimped on deodorant. And the worst part is that this doesn't change as the perfume develops.

Although I've given Blackberry & Bay a second (and third, and fourth) chance, it smells absolutely vile on me, unfortunately.

Bonus: I once sprayed it on my clothes (thinking maybe it won't be so horrible that way) just before going outside and my friend said: "Wow, that insect repellent smells cool". Unfortunately, it wasn't a joke...

gtabasso

goes on herbal with the bay and vetiver then quickly becomes a luscious ripe blackberry with a touch of grapefruit, and some musk

psebi101

Blackberry with lemon, very fresh, fruity and juicy, although the lemon doesn't smell that natural. There is a big bouquet of flowers coming while entering the second hour and, after that, woody and soft spicy notes.

kimberry2219

I’ve had this for a while but just recently starting wearing it more since I’ve matured. It’s definitely perfect for a young woman in her late 20’s. It’s green fruit and fresh. This is a scent that just makes me happy and livens up my senses. So pretty.

marenanne6

Love Love Love Love! I just wish it had more oomph so I could smell it all day. Disappears after an hour.

pnw_pluviophile

Of the Jo Malone 'fruity' colognes this one is my favorite. The sillage and longevity aren't great - medium in hot weather, so okay for the office, but I'd like a little more of both. The price point is too high for what you get, in my opinion. The smallest option, the travel size, is $68 directly bought from her website. The scent opens with a fresh blackberry; as a kid I grew up with blackberry vines all along our fence line and it smells just like a true blackberry vine. Partly green, partly 'citrus' and a juicy, ripe fresh blackberry scent - it's really lovely. Then, the bay leaf becomes more prominent. Probably about 10 minutes after spraying the bay leaf and blackberry are at the peak of the sillage, and that really is the time-frame at which this fragrance is best experienced. A slight soapy, perfume-y note is at the end of the fragrance but it's not too strong. Nonetheless, I don't own a bottle of this because it's too soapy and weak for my tastes. Unfortunately the blackberry/fruity note weakens a lot soon after the first hour so I hesitate to fully recommend this perfume. The value just isn't there for the price point. However, if you can get if for less, and you love a fresh, fruity fragrance this one is quite good.

justfloral

After spraying the blackberry note is really good and then comes "sweet shampoo-ish" note so
popular in many nowadays fragrances. I think blackberry in Mure et Musk is more "wild".

ms.ttran64

I get a lot of tartness and green, thanks to the vetiver which is always a note that jumps out on my skin more prominently than other notes in the same fragrance, for some reason. The citrus helps to give it more of a balance so that it’s not too tart or green. Great for work, spring daytime.

natasha.wahyudihardjo

This is definitely among the longer-lasting Jo Malone scents. As we have probably known, sillage and longevity are not JM's forte. Hate it all you want but I think JM has the best combination of fragrances. I find almost all of them wearable and inoffensive, even the heavier ones such as Pomegranate Noir or Velvet Rose & Oud. There's luxury and at the same time, modesty, to their perfume.

That said, I feel like I haven't given Blackberry & Bay the credit it deserves. I love how this fragrance boosts my confidence by 100 times, and I mean that. People say that one perfume that gives instant confidence boost is Coco Mademoiselle. Well, Blackberry & Bay is MY Coco Mademoiselle. It is confident without being snobby, but too awesome to go unnoticed. It's like people take me more seriously whenever I wear this. I associate this fragrance to a confident lawyer working at a top-tier law firm on a sunny day, looking down from a skyscraper while sipping her soy latte.

In Indonesia, bay leaves are used as a cooking ingredient that instantly uplifts the smell of the cuisine. So I was quite surprised at how nice this combination works. Ah... such an astonishing fragrance.

virtualalice

Almost acidic lemon start, but mellows soon enough. Worn on its own it smells clean, but in a way like shampoo does, I would rather not wear it without layering with something else, possibly sweeter.

LeFrank

Blackberry and Bay by Jo Malone reminds me of one of my personal favourite scents, Pulp by Byredo. They have similar listed notes but Pulp has a dark, full-bodied tartness while Blackberry and Bay is brighter and greener. The latter has a more straightforward composition with less complexity and depth.

Unfortunately, Blackberry and Bay contains grapefruit, my aromatic Achilles' heel. Though I love the smell of grapefruit, it often devolves into an unpleasant stale sweat scent on my skin. For that reason I cannot speak to longevity or sillage as I had to wash it off within the first hour of application.

Whit

This is a pretty and non-offensive citrus-blackberry scent. In the opening, I get only a small whiff of the bay leaf and then it's tart and kinda sour. As it's mellowing, the blackberry starts coming through, followed by grapefruit nuances.

As it's dried, I get more grapefruit on my skin vs. blackberry. It's nice for spring or summer days, as I found it to be quite refreshing.

I love a lot of Jo Malone fragrances, but I probably won't purchase this one. Longevity and sillage are very weak, plus I like my blackberry fragrances a bit on the warmer side. For me, it's not worth the price tag as there are better blackberry perfumes out there. If you're a die hard Jo Malone fan, then go for it.

CobraCommander

Intense green smell. Is the most original summer frag I have ever scented.

To be honest, I enjoyed almost all of Jo Malone's fragrances, is the only house I know the smell actually fits the name or description.

Her perfumes are extremely clean which I appreciate very much.

SAFE HAVEN

I was surprised by the Fragrantica-reviews about this fragrance, so I blind bought it. And I am very glad I did.

From the beginning I sense a very very interesting combination of floral notes and bay leaves. After some time the notes of Grapefruit, Cedar + Vetiver bring freshness from the background -> and it remains quite subtle there (in the background) : being there but not dominating.

Longevity: - 8/10
Sillage: - 5/10

All in all: 10 out of 10 subjective points -> because (to me) it's unique. Every time i spray it on me, it gives me the feeling i reached a safe haven, where I could relax and unwind -> a subjective feeling that is worth millions

g0h4eun

The opening smells like freshly picked blueberries.
But that delicious blueberry smell doesn't last & only sour smell left after 30 mins. I tested this on my wrist and then went out for lunch
The whole time I thought my food gone bad or something. Found out it was from my wrist smelling like sweaty amrpit.
it's wayyyy too citrusy and tart. My teeth feel sour & get watery mouth from smelling this & not in a good way.
I definitely don't wanna smell sour or like armpit

Christycaxxx

Love this scent but I wish Jo Malone would do at least EDT so that the juice would last longer cos even having a 30ml spray for $98 is quite pricey. Fruity herbal with a hint of cedar smells refreshing and light. May be too weak for really cold weather but terrific for hot weather.

rougenoirmakeup

This is my favourite perfume of the last year or so. It's very appropriate for many occasions and works particularly well in spring, summer and autumn, it's maybe a bit too light for winter though. The scent is just so lovely; tart yet sweet blackberry with a hint of bay leaf (definitely just a small hint though). I like the idea of blackberry in fragrances, but sometimes they can smell very synthetic and overly sweet. This perfume seems to hit the sweet spot for me (edit: I can't believe I just made that pun without even noticing...), although admittedly I wouldn't mind even a bit more tartness. Still, the scent is delicious yet not too gourmand, you don't end up smelling like a piece of pie but rather like a fresh, ripe blackberry.

However, the longevity and sillage are rather poor considering the price. Personally I don't mind it that much as I'm not a fan of loud fragrances, but I know those aren't a problem for everyone.

rjf

Fake grapefruit.

tayyabforyouth

The blackberry note in this is very beautiful, while the bay leaf note is only in the background. Smells amazing. Sillage is alas soft, while longevity is only moderate. As for fresh blackberry fragrances, Byredo's Accord Oud is a better offering in my opinion.

dsty

Well, this is just wonderful on a hot summer day like today, and I get why it's so popular! It has the kind of delicious tartness that's like catnip to me, just utterly irresistible - like a perfected, more grown-up version of the tartest fruity-florals I used to love when I was younger. It's all about the fruit notes, but in a very natural, unsweetened way: lovely raspberry and grapefruit that smell divine but sour, like you'd need to add some sugar to make them as nice to eat as they are to smell. The bay leaf adds a nice contrasting edge, noticeable but not prominent, which is just how I like my aromatics.
The only downside is the longevity, but that's to be expected in this genre. And since the very opening is the best part, re-applying often actually seems like kind of a bonus (at least from my hopeless perfume hoarder's point of view, since I don't have to worry about using too much, I never seem to finish a bottle anyway). Another one for my wish list...

neaga.alina

Beautiful but...it doesnt stay on me at all. I can spray it every hour and nothing. I

cologneblanche

I’m glad I’m not the only one noticing the ‘armpit’ ‘sweaty’ smell from this! I actually don’t mind it as it feels human and less like a room spray but it sure has this underarm spiciness mixed with some green sweetness! Does this have cumin? Or is this the bay and vetiver? It’s quite interesting and would work fine on a guy

MissAnnette

It smells very bitter and herbal on me. I find it quite masculine.

360Logic

I'm a guy and I really like this. JM did themselves a disservice by labeling this for women instead of unisex. I have smelled and own far more "feminine" leaning fragrances that are for both sexes (e.g., JM Earl Grey and Cucumber, Bond Sag Harbor). The bay note in particular gives it a subtly masculine edge. I agree with most of the descriptions of notes, particularly regarding the greenness and natural/unsweetened berry notes, but I mainly wanted to point out that this is firmly in the unisex spectrum and totally appropriate for a man. Bonus points since the wife loved it too. I may have to consider a FB in the near future. At least I wouldn't have to worry about smelling like other guys.

msdespondent

Imagine walking in a lemon grove, the smell of lemons wafting through the air. Stepping on ripe blackberries that have fallen on the ground, their tart juices filling the air. Then smelling the green of herbs growing nearby, and flowers in the distance. Finally, sitting down under the tree, enjoying the shade and the smell of woods and damp roots.

That’s the image I get with this perfume. It is wonderfully fresh and tart. Then dries down floral and woody. Absolutely gorgeous.

chere.017

Got a sample for this coz i just joined the Jo Malone cruise. ;)

And this one is lovely.

Maybe because I'm the type of gal who loves fresh "herbal" smells. But don't let that word "herbal" fool you or make you think of it in a negative way.

Gahhhh. This is a beautiful well-blended scent.

I also got the sharp grapefruit that some pointed out here. But it tones down after a few minutes.

I love the drydown!!!

Guess I need to get the full bottle. :)
And onto trying out another Jo Malone scent.

eamaccready

I'm usually not a huge fruity floral wearer, most fruit smells often don't really work well on my skin, but this one is quite nice. I think because the fruit isn't candy/juice kind of sweet, it's tart like blackberry juice right from the berry combined with the grapefruit. And the bay and vetiver and cedar provide enough aromatic/spicy and woody notes to tone it down as well. I'd say this is unisex. Longevity was pretty good for Jo Malone on me. Sillage is cologne like. Nice.

MulawinLacsa

My new Jo Malone favorite. It is light and refreshing. It is sweet but not as much as Jo Malone Nectarine Blossom & Honey - though they sort of smell closely the same. The only downside is that it does not have much projection.

cranky137

This is seriously one of the best of Jo Malone line.

It opens very greeny of Blackberry leaves (not the fruit in my opinion) and grapefruit. Blackberry then fades a Little and warm grapefruit skin comes through, a very tarty, juicy, mouth-watering feeling. It has definitely a vetiver base (the one that is grapefruity). Very soft.

The scent itself is extremely comfy, it belongs to the chill/mindfull category, you cannot overspray it.
Suits best for spring/summer.

Longevity roughly 4 hours and you need to reapply, but I don't mind :).

Very Close to The Diffrent Company Sublime Balkiss (minus the grapefruit)

KateElizabeth

This cologne has a tart juiciness to it that separates it from other fruit-based fragrances. It smells truer to the fruit and isn’t cloying or too sweet. It’s not really my favorite scent, but I’ve recently found that it’s quite nice when layered with Egyptian musk oil and I’m sure would be wonderful when layered with other scents.

zhuzhu

This is a comfortable and happy cologne for me.
