Batucada by L'Artisan Parfumeur is a Floral Fruity fragrance for women and men. Batucada was launched in 2011. Batucada was created by Karine Vinchon Spehner and Elisabeth Maier. Top notes are Lime, Mint and Sugar Cane; middle notes are Tiare Flower and Ylang-Ylang; base notes are Sea water, Salt and Coconut.

The house of L'Artisan Parfumeur is launching an interesting new fragrance named Batucada. Batucada originates from Rio de Janeiro and is a substyle of samba.

Perfumers Karine Vinchon and Elizabeth Maier were in charge of the composition of the new fragrance. The perfume connects not only two perfumers, but also two places on different sides of the world - Grasse in France and Sao Paulo in Brazil. Grasse is present as the place of origin of the fragrance while Brazil serves as inspiration for ingredients, name and general idea behind the fragrance.

Batucada, a fragrance for men and women, opens with Brazilian drink Caipirinha, which consists of lime, cachaça and mint leaves. A heart incorporates opulent and sweet floral notes of tiare flower and ylang ylang. Final notes close with a drydown of coconut water and marine notes of sea salt.

The fragrance is expected on the market beginning of October 2011 as100 ml and 50 ml EDT.

Saltwater and lime. A margarita at a classy venue, a sweaty summer sunset. Something pretty way off in the distance - ylang-ylang, too airy to be the coconut. Fades within an hour, rounds down to a barely-there sweet coconut. The longevity was terrible on me, but if you want a carefree, sexy skin scent for a tropical summer, this is luscious.

This is a lovely, casual scent.

This was on my radar awhile back but reviews at that time complained to the extent that I scratched it off my “to test” list. I got a sample recently.

Overall impression is that this is a fresh, slightly aquatic leaning beachy summer scent, but without the sunscreen vibes. Smells like fruit, sand, and something that comes off like sandalwood though there are no wood notes listed. The fruits are lime and coconut though what I smell seems more similar to lime and cantaloupe/melon. I get nothing fishy or animalic at all, though the only perfumes that tend to turn animalic or sour with my chemistry are actual animal musks/civet, patchouli, and occasional pissy white florals (usually only happens in vintage scents), so that’s not a huge problem for me.

Opens quite strong. Dries down rapidly and within an hour it’s more of a skin scent. I like the scent a lot, but it isn’t my favorite from this genre. Unisex but slightly masculine leaning. Reminds me of aquatic mens cologne, more so than Virgin Island Water or Cocobello or other similar scents.

I personally like VIW more, and I just discovered a new love, Hydra Figue by Miller Harris, which I’d say are similar to this scent but have overall blends that I prefer more.

This is a lovely fragrance though and I highly recommend it for people looking for marine summer scents that aren’t too sunscreen-y.

Smells like a cruise to Mexico or the Caribbean. Not good compared to the house's other offerings. The drydown is very simple and cheap smelling to my nose.

I blind bought Batucada because I found it for a good price and thought the scent profile was right up my alley. I probably should have read a bit more into "Sweet" being listed as the main accord, as it is a *very* sweet fragrance. Even though "Citrus" is a close second in the accord break down, I didn't find this to be the case. For this reason I would probably push it a bit more into leans feminine territory than unisex.

I think the note breakdown generally does a good job outlining the scent composition; however, I get a really strong opening note of synthetic banana (reminiscent of Banane du Bresil) that never fully dies down. This is probably a combination of the the floral notes (underemphasized above in my opinion) and the particularly strong sugar cane note triggering an association despite no banana note being present. The mint listed in the top notes is mild and sweet, not particularly crisp or refreshing.

The salt and seawater base notes give the fragrance a nice beachy vibe, but whereas in other fragrances these notes offer a cooling effect (perhaps respresenting a dip in the water), these notes in Batucada feel like the water warming and the salt drying on skin after you've made your way out of the water and back to sunbathing.

I don't get a strong sense of the coconut apart from its interplay with the very dominant sugar cane, but I would reccomend folks who dislike coconut because they find it too saccharine stay away from this one.

As to another reviewer's blind comparison to Guerlain's Aqua Allegoria Limon Verde, I can only venture a blind comparison in the other direction as I have not tried Limon Verde. Looking at the notes, I'm also surprised these two aren't on each other's "reminds me of" list, but there are a few things that I *imagine* set them apart. First and foremost, I think the Lime in Limon Verde is quite a bit more present than the lime here. One review by user "twoski" notes: "I'd say it smells more like lime zest mixed with some green herbal notes and a smidge of fresh fig. Apparently this fragrance has sugarcane/fruit scents in it, but i do not smell a single trace of those. Certainly those notes are nowhere near as prominent as this page would have you believe." There is no doubt about the presence of sugar cane in Batucada. I also imagine the green notes in Limon Verde a bit more present/verdant due to the presence of fig and "green notes" (whatever that means).

Overall, Batucada is nice summer fragrance for those who like it hot and sweet, but don't expect to find relief from the heat. In its place you'll find a beachy Brazilian celebration of it.

Below the top layer is a smell of incense

Refreshing and delicious. Like a mojito or caipirinha in a bottle. The lime and sugar cane is so zesty and edible.

I have not tried this yet but read most of the reviews and it seems like this one is very alike to Limon Verde from Guerlain’s Aqua Allegoria line. Someone else had mentioned it too. Surprised it’s not on the “reminds me” list.

A few people mention the sweat nuance. I’d imagine it’s a combination of the salt note along with lime. Some lime perfume materials do have a skin-like, dirty hair smell. Perhaps they used one or a few of them in here?

I hope the coconut isn’t very prominent, if I ever try it. Not a fan of that note. So often it ruins tropical scents for me.

jaimepenney

This scent is nothing like Vanilla Vibes. Nothing at all. I have both. Batucada is minty, lime, and sweet. Vanilla Vibes is an obviously Vanilla, sunscreeny scent. They share a salt note. Batucada is very fresh and airy and Vanilla Vibes is heavier. They are nothing a like so I'm not sure why people would say they are similar because they are absolutely nothing a like.
Batucada is lovely for a hot summer day. It's refreshing without being sharp or bitter. It does remind me of a mojito as someone else said. Great for a day out or even a hot night.

dcjimr

I wish I could get over the body odor note, which is there but not strong. Not sure what it is, maybe like a seaweed accord?

pygmalia

Outdoorsy, tropical, carefree, attractive. Sweet and sour fruity. Definitely summertime. I like the lime and the mint. Not my type of perfume, but I appreciate it.

Frangipanilove

Oooo this is nice…! What a beautifully crafted, delightful perfume. Batucada manages to be exotic without a tiniest hint of a tiki bar..instead you get an absolutely beautiful balance of lime, sugar, salt water and tiare & ylang. What a delight. This is a sauntering leisurely walk on the beach in the sunset towards a tall dark stranger, exchanging glances, ordering a cocktail and anticipating how the night will unfold. Gorgeous summertime perfume. After a couple of hours the citrus fades leaving you with a soft and sensuous sweet tiare salt water scent close to the skin - it would be fabulous if this projected a bit more because the scent is absolutely gorgeous. But can’t have everything..! A Stunning scent.

h149

I can tell this was probably expertly done but it’s not meant for me. It smells like I’m at a bar whose clientele are at least 15 years older than I am and have a lot more spending power than I do lol.

TBonetheFella

So I might be biased as right as I got my bottle in about a weekish ago I came down with a sinus infection so I couldn't truly appreciate this smell for what it is. So I have been anxiously waiting to try this scent for a long time.

But now that I am all cleared up and I've smell it; woah. This is a super airy late spring/summer scent that is just delicious. As I have said in many other reviews I find it harder to like sweeter/gourmand fragrances, but this one is so odd. The sugar in it mixed with the underlying tone of salt really gives it this beach vacation vibe to it. Less of a gourmandy food flavor but like a delicious cocktail. Upon first spraying the sweet sugar, mint, and lime mix together to form this mojito like aroma that is amazingly intoxicating (pun intended). Then that blast dries down to add the florals and base notes. Now when I first read the notes I was expecting something a bit more feminine leaning, but it is perfectly unisex. It smells like unbuttoned Hawaiian shirts and linen bathing suit covers, mojitos in hand, the salty air whipping my hair, and the world at my fingertips. This EXCELS as a day fragrance, but I can see this being a boozy, bougie, and beautiful night out fragrance during the hot months as well. I can't wait to see how this performs under the high humidity and heat, but this is a vacation in a bottle. I can't really see anyone not liking this unique take on a summer scent. Be careful though, you won't be the only one intoxicated by this scent.

My one complaint with this scent is that the giant mojito blast initially fades REALLY fast to an arms reach fragrance. It lasts really long overall, but don't expect this to fill any room besides the room you initially sprayed it in.

EDIT:

I wore this fragrance in Hawaii for like 10 days straight, and 1) it performed and projected amazingly! Super airy and wispy around me that makes it super beautiful 2) it's a major compliment magnet. Had a lot of fellow beach goers compliment me as they walked by.

Lang Ylang

In my humble opinion, this perfume does not have anything in common with Juliette Has a Gun's Vanilla Vibes. I own full bottles of both, and Vanilla Vibes is definitely more of a musky, salty, sunscreen vanilla. Batucada is literally a mojito in a bottle. It's much heavier on citrus notes. The only similarity I find is that they are both splendid summer scents.

yurkin

Funny thing is fragrantica mods removed Vanilla Vibes form “This perfume reminds me of“ on Batucada's page and vice versa. It was one of the most votes ones. Idk why they would do this? I got sample of Batucada October 2021 Because it was supposedly similar to Vanilla Vibes, when few months later it disappeared from the page
... Now I have sample of Vanilla Vibes and can confirm they are similar.

Fleurdamane

Absolutely love this one, very unique, wasn't a love at first sniff, it just grew on me for its original different phases. Perfect for spring or summer, fresh seawater, tropical flowers and juicy lime, the Davana note comes strong which give a sharp fresh green touch, taking the central stage. A very dry woody dry down, no sweetness at all, long lasting. This skin cocktail reminds me of Cachaça, the alcohol used in Caipirinha, interesting mix that takes me to the beach of my dreams :-)

mirrorghost

mint, sugar, salt and tiare with some sea like notes. at first i get something mildly indolic, but it fades quickly. reminds me of a mojito but not quite as minty. as it dries down, the scent reminds me a lot of la source body products from crabtree and evelyn. nice and refreshing for summer.

I get different results than many of the people below me so please know this is not a knock on anyone else since smell is somewhat subjective and varies dramatically according to skin chemistry and PH balance.

What I get from Batucada is a fantastic tropical summer fragrance with solid longevity and sillage. I have never gotten the fishy smell that some others apparently received.

Batucada can easily be worn by men or women and is almost like an island getaway for me that I wear casually or even to the office when I feel like I am in need of a vacation, but don't have the PTO time available.

The accords above are pretty much spot on as I definitely get plenty of lime, sugar, ylang-ylang, coconut, tiare flower and a dose of sea salt. I don't get much of an aquatic or a sea water vibe at all though and that is fine with me as I own other frags that do.

I find Batucada smooth, clean, tropical and extremely enjoyable. It shares a couple of the same notes as Creed Virgin Island Water and to a lesser degree Calvin Klein's Eternity Now, but is in NO WAY a clone of either one. Batucada does have a tropical island feel like Virgin Island Water though. Creed's Virgin Island Water is one of my personal favorites, but Batucada is a very different fragrance and experience that I do enjoy and can recommend to anyone that wants a nice tropical summer fragrance that makes you feel like you are on a far way island and don't have a care in the world.

Heiroppo

My skin must eat this, I am nose blind to it, or it is very weak. Initial scent reminiscent of limp mandarin orange peel/juice (No acidity or spark) then fades to a barely there fresh salty water.

OnTheNose1982

Upon first spray I get a lovely hit of citrus and white flowers. I actually get a different kind of citrus like kumquat or bergamot but maybe that’s the combination of the lime and mint. It’s very green and lush but not moist and humid. I don’t get any sweetness, in fact it’s tart. It feels like I’m sipping a mojito or pisco sour on a veranda with white flowers growing over the railings later in the day when the warmth is just receding overlooking a green forest.

I don’t get any aquatic notes until it settles. Then I get a bit if the saltiness of the sea. No fishiness on my skin. So maybe the other side of the veranda faces the sea.

It’s not a strong scent but it’s lasting nicely this morning. I think I’d like to be enveloped in this light scent on spring and summer days. I’ll have to see how it lasts and develops by afternoon to see if it’s full bottle worthy.

Update: while pleasant upon first spray, it didn’t last beyond the morning, and I can’t see myself buying a full bottle because of that and because the dry down is just meh.

Rosemary14

If you want this but without the underlying fishy smell: 4160 Tuesdays What I Did On My Holidays. It actually makes much more sense. It smells like mint chocolate chip ice cream with a sea breeze in the background. Honestly, Batacuda is confusing. There are parts that are gorgeous and parts that clash with an underlying fishy brine. It’s like a minty, lime Mojito mixed with coconut, tropical flowers, and salty fish.

strongerwithglue

Fruity sweet and fresh with a heavy marine, salty undercurrent. I personally find it disgusting, the marine notes are too murky and fishy smelling.

RandomPatterned

I may have to revisit, I think I'm anosmic to it. I thought I over sprayed initially. I got a blast of cinnamon and sweetness of unknown origin. Fast forward 2 hours, weirdly nothing discernible. I bought a sample as the notes listed here seemed like a unique combo for a beachy type scent. When I checked today, Batacuda is not listed on L'Artisan Parfumeur's website.

Edit: another 1.5 hours have past. All I sense is a light and pleasant sensation of freshness without any particular prominent notes. Vaguely sweet and lightly floral. I can usually find citrus, mint, salt, and coconut in frags. But nope, none stand out. Must be nicely blended. I think I would like it if it had some oomph. Shrug.

7/22/23 - Edit 2: Definitely better in warm weather. Seems balanced. I like that none of accords overwhelm each other. Summer freshies typically have one dominant profile of herbs, citrus, water, or coconut. Batacuda seems more versatile and appealing to wear for more people. To me, it's more feminine due to sweetness present on the dry down.

AlaskanAngel

Rough. A tropical floral aquatic discord. They tried to make this fragrance do too much and now it's a mess.

Vitodito

I am sorry to tell that this is going to be discontinued very very soon, along with A LOT of other L’Artisan :-(

SalinasL

Absolutely love it at first, everything I didn’t know I needed, the signature scent I didn’t know I wanted. Very unique smelling, delicate balance of resinous sweetness and peppery spiciness and somehow-feminine salt. The mint is so subtle but adds a burst of freshness as it wafts around you. But it simplifies as it progresses and becomes a nondescript unisex sandalwood scent, very similar to DKNY Stories and so many others. If it stayed more like it is in the first half hour I’d scoop up a full bottle in a heartbeat. I would probably drain it within a month without even noticing the dust gathering on my other scents. But as it is I’ll nurse my samples and see how we go. And I will try not to think of what could have been.

TxTizzy

This a beach in Mexico. That’s what I hold on to it for….I layer it with a comptoir coconut scent when I’m on beach vacations.

aspirina

This is very nice! bright, refreshing, the mint, lime and ylang ylang, tiare flower make a very modern and pleasant scent. The salty note is very subtle. Coconut note is more like coconut water, not the coconut flesh. This is only mildly sweet.
Full bottle worthy. Really lovely scent for the summer time!

Charlize2014

I had this perfume and I am thinking to purchase it again, it’s definitely a summer fragrance.
Smells refreshing sweet and sour, still has a fresh vibe to it. It reminds me of beach cocktails.
It is a bit saulty but in a good way. Mmm takes me back in exotic holidays Maldives, Seychelles..

stacia79

Very salty aquatic. Opens very bright with the lime, reminiscent of a mojito or other lime based cocktail. The drydown is an exquisitely salty ocean water fragrance. Similar to the scent that lingers on your skin after a day of splashing in the ocean.

Vitodito

This is one of the funniest perfumes in my collection.

Opens with green and marine notes, with caipirinha. Fresh, breezy, greeny, mariny and boozy but not the kind of chocolate cognac thing, this is summer booziness.

The drydown is simply GORGEOUS. Smells like sugar from caipirinha just melt in your salted skin, what a sexy thing!!!

I’m so lucky to own a 2013 bottle, i see that everybody complains about performance but on me it lasts forever. Altough when i opened the bottle it was very weak, but month after month it grew insanely and this is something i experience with l’artisan, first sprays are weak but fragrances become much much better after months and years. Also when it arrives from shipping, bottles need to settle down a couple of days.

This is my personal experience, i love to wear this beautiful perfume in the summer.

piyux

Batucada opens with a moderate projection of fresh and oceanic accords. Lime and mint are the two prominent citrus notes, adding a freshness touch to the fragrance. The seawater and salt join creating an oceanic breeze-like tone. The tiara flower adds a peculiar sweat-like tone, slightly green and musky animalic which seems to act as a boosting accord. The ylang-ylang counterbalances with its fruity and aromatic touches. The coconut is just a soft whiff. The most noticeable changes from the opening to the dry-down are the dissipation of the initial citrus accords and the development of a slightly animalic, sweat-like tone. Once L’Artisan Parfumeur Batucada has reached its full dry-down, it can be summarized as a moderate projection, marine, slightly sweet, salty, and green, musky fragrance with soft floral and fruity accords. The fragrance feels animalic, classy, dirty, mature, musky, oceanic, old-school, unisex, and unpleasant.

BATCH REVIEWED: 2020.
WOW RATING: 8/10. The combination of animalic musky accords and ylang-ylang is impressive.
DISLIKE RATING: 9/10. The fragrance has a mature, old-school vibe, and sweat and animalic accord are likely to be found offensive by many people.
UNIQUENESS: 10/10. The composition of tones creates a unique fragrance.
MASS APPEAL: 1/10. Although the opening is fresh and aromatic, the dry-down very different. The dry-down mass appeal factor is very low.
PROJECTION: 3/10. Moderate, about 3 feet around the wearer.
SILLAGE: 4/10. Moderate, about 4 feet behind the wearer.
APPLICATION: Four atomizations will suffice.
LONGEVITY: 3/10. Moderate, about 3 hours, with 1 hour of moderate projection.
SEASONS: Spring and summer.
OCCASIONS: Outdoor gatherings, casual.
VERSATILITY: 3/10. Low, the fragrance fits well casual occasions.
GENDER: Unisex. The notes in this fragrance are neutral.
AGES: 30 and above. This is a good fragrance for mature wearers.
RECOMMENDATION: The fragrance can be found discounted for about $60. Although its opening is fresh and aromatic, the development of a musky accord requires an acquired taste to enjoy it. Not recommended.
BLIND-BUY: No, sample it first.
SIMILAR: These are some examples of fragrances that feature similar notes. Acqua Di Parma Men Colonia Club Eau De Cologne is a green, musky, and slightly floral fragrance; Jean Paul Gaultier Le Beau Male Men is old-school, spicy, musky, green and floral; L'Artisan Parfumeur Mon Numero 10 is woody, musky, floral and slightly animalic; Mancera Aoud Line contains animalic oud and roses; Montale Intense Black Aoud is also very animalic.
SUMMARY: A moderate projection, marine, slightly sweet, salty, and green, musky fragrance with soft floral and fruity accords. The fragrance feels animalic, classy, dirty, mature, musky, oceanic, old-school, unisex, and unpleasant.

This smelled to me like this one sugar factory drink lmfao

Br0wnsfn34

A tropical vacation in a bottle!

The noses behind this fragrance should really applaud themselves.. I really enjoy when a fragrance whether it’s a perfume/cologne, a room spray or even a candle and it teleports you to a certain memory or a destination.. That is what this fragrance does.. At first sniff it smelled as if I was on a beach, drinking a mojito and enjoying the sunshine.. love at first smell.. I compared it to VIW and to me this is a more masculine version of VIW.. The coconut is in the background, where compared to VIW you get that sun tan lotion vibe.. This is simply amazing..A summer staple in my collection.. Very very well done.. In my opinion it’s a masterpiece!

A very interesting fresh/fruity fragrance. Completely unique.

A vacation in Ibiza, I woke up next to some naked drunk girl in my bed, after way too many cheap cocktails. Maybe she had vomited on herself a little, who knows.

This smells like her.

I wont be wearing it.

YekenLarroche

Fresh daily citrus combination. Fruity & rounded.
Beach cocktail with surprising longevity.

It's fast and agile with the mint-lime-sugar and a playful flower that doesn't stop like a rose or jasmine would do. Well blended unlsex. 8/10

joseffgabriel

Beautiful summer sweet scent. Lime sugar with a bit of florals. Hard to describe haven't smelled something like it. Smells like lime juice with sugar cane. The sugar note here is the sugar cane smell which is quite prominent.

pois

This is a weird one.

If you live in a place where the caipirinha is a common cocktail drink, wearing this scent might be problematic. It is inspired by, I guess, Carnaval, Rio de Janeiro, samba. And Carnaval does not necessarily smell like something I want to smell like.

Caipirinha is a cocktail made with cachaça (a sugar cane alcohol), lime, sugar. I get all those notes loud and clear here. I also get a LOT of salt which is unexpected and adds to a certain "sweaty" impression, some florals on the background. The impression is like you spilled a caipirinha on you on a sweaty street night party, which is not a romantic or attractive prospect for me. When I smell my wrist I keep expecting it to be sticky from the caipirinha sugar... This is very much a no go for me.

I basically love all the L'Artisan Parfumeur scents released before 2010-2011, while releases after that leave me quite cold. Fragrantica has been really useful to help spot this trend.

If you like the idea of these notes, try also Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Limon Verde, which I think is a lot more attractive.

Lynda1722

Agree with almost all the reviews on the notes, however, on my skin in the heart I get a touch of cumin, which smells a bit sour on my skin. Maybe I’ll try this on a hot day

Bubbles1964

I applied non-scented lotion right after showering this morning, waited an hour then spritzed Batucada, hoping to eek out a bit more time with it. My effort proved futile, nothing gained in terms of performance. The opening of this is fabulous, but from experience it lasts less than an hour.

So I brought the bottle to work and reapplied during my lunch break. That first hour is magical. I pick up a bunch of fresh notes all hanging out together: lime, mint, sea salt, ylang, and a very light coconut essence. It feels exotic but not in a sweet, commercial way.

If i was on vacation, this perfume is where the locals hang out.

After about an hour it morphs into a skin scent. All of the notes are still there, but are now softer and rounder. I wore this on a warm Fall day, with temps around 70 degrees (unusual for us here in Seattle), so I don’t think it’s going to perform much better in Summer.

I like it a lot, but the longevity issues are preventing me from loving it. I bought a 50ml for a steal so for now I will enjoy it in short bursts.

atarilynx

Interesting fragrance...It starts out with lime, sugar, and mint...but doesn't really smell like a mojito...more like a candy of some sort.

After drydown it gets more interesting..some of the other notes come through...salt notes, very light coconut, ylang-ylang, and the floral note. There does seem to be an herbal base that isn't listed...and it seems a bit piney and woody. I actually like that part.

Longevity is surprisingly good given the main notes.

I think this is for those that want something longer lasting and higher quality than Set Sail St. Bart's or something more interesting and less coconutty than Virgin Island Water.

Dawnfiller

I blind bought this perfume based on lime and mint notes. I was hoping for a beach suntan lotion vibe because it has coconut in it too. Nope not on my skin!

This scent on me is only aquatic with almost animalic note except it is actually dirty ocean salty smell of seaweed rotting on beach. From the opening it had no citrus or any other notes. As time passed it faded to salty seawater but nothing else. Zero flowers detected!

After reading other reviews I assume it is my body chemistry ruining this fragrance. None of the other notes ever came through on my skin. I am so disappointed!

This is a skin scent on me but strong. I live in Arizona desert it is 119 degrees today and I have extremely dry skin so any perfume struggles to last on me.

Summer4Life

Smells like whiskey or some kind of strong booze, not caipirinha though. No citrus either. Was expecting it to be waay fresher and brighter, with the lime, salt, mint and all that.
Also, it's extremely weak. Even after I applied the *entire* sample it was just barely there. I wonder if maybe I've been scammed or if something was wrong with the sample I bought... :/

pb0330

If anyone is interested in purchasing or trading, I have a 75% full 3.4 bottle of this fragrance in the original box.

missk

Batucada by L'Artisan Parfumeur was not quite what I was expecting. I knew it was going to be fruity, it was the oceanic vibe that had me off-guard. Although marketed as unisex, I must admit that I find it better suited to masculine skin.

Batucada is a rich and juicy fruity floral which suits the warmer weather. This fragrance was supposedly created to emulate the scent of a Brazilian beach and to pay homage to a Rio de Janiero samba dance, and although I have never traveled to this vast South American land, I can certainly see how this fragrance's composition came to be.

Although this may sound off-putting, Batucada is the kind of fragrance that would complement the natural, salty scent of sweat on a warm Summer's day. It's the sweaty, pheromone aspect of this fragrance that makes it far more attractive on other's skin than it is on my own. Nobody wants to be sexually attracted to themselves.

Batucada, despite being a warm weather scent does have rather bold projection. The longevity is also impressive, lasting a decent six to seven hours on my skin. The best advice I can offer is to go easy on the sprays and to treat this fragrance as you would a potent Eau de Parfum.

The most dominant notes to my nose include salt, lime, sugar cane and tiare flower. Batucada's scent pyramid almost makes it sound like a sweet, Escada-style tropical scent, but do not be fooled, the sweetness in this fragrance is minimal.

Full review to come very shortly, but ALL I can say right now is that this is one half of what I believe to be one of [if not] THE GREATEST fragrance blends in Fragrance History...... I may be embellishing somewhat, but please stay tuned for that revelation and please try to get your hands on this discontinued gem ASAP- I mean ASAP before it totally vanishes from the market..... The offer half of this blend is STILL very much available- at least since the last time I checked about a week ago.......

kriziaprincess

I love this. Such an unusual refreshing citrus aromatic. The best way I can describe this is womanity summer. Batucada has the same marine caviar accord and adds a healthy splash of lime. I only get the tiare and coconut at the drydown.
One of the very few tropical/Caribbean scents not sugar saturated/synthetic smelling I've come across.

Batucadas opening is surprisingly nice with is salty lime and bit aquatic/ozonic feel to it and I usually don’t like aquatic/ozonic scents at all but this kind of opening is one I can get behind! Middle is bit troubled in my mind; the nice energetic feeling of the opening is gone, freshness has more of a floral edge to it with ylang-ylang and what I assume is tiare flower. I hoped to get more sweetness as it works wonders for fragrances in my skin but I’m left with bit of a dry feeling, it’s hard to explain; this is bit funny as I thought Batucada as a beach scent. Drydown on the other hand is musky, bit salty and sweet; rather inoffensive.

Longevity is quite good for lighter summer scent; it hangs in there most of the day. Batucada isn’t loud scent and I don’t really mind that summery scents aren’t sillage beasts.
Overall I do like this one but I do not love it, that’s bit of a problem when there is so many amazing things I can get instead but still I am glad I got my nose to this one to finally get aquatic fragrance that I did like is great. For those that like aquatics I’d wager this is great fragrance and after the L’Artisans bottle design change there has been pretty amazing prices for Batucada.

I can smell all the notes except the coconut, it is nowhere to be found. Overall, this scent is more masculine than feminine, yet still unisex. It smells fresh and sweet at first, the salt and aquatic notes come later. Unfortunately the aquatic note smells kind of generic, I've smelled it a thousand times in men's fragrances. It's a bit musky, masculine, and very synthetic.

The sillage is low, longevity is about 4 hours. I'll probably use up my sample but won't buy a full bottle.

Pa.princess

Ordered this last summer on a blind buy. When it arrived I sprayed it on and it was meh, no big deal, not very interesting. Brought it back out now that the temps are warming up and WOW I am in love with this stuff!! The lime, sugar, mint and the sea combine to make a wonderful summer spritzer! Lime is the star of the show in the opening, then you get the sweetness of sugar with the salty sea during the dry down. I think I'll be wearing this quite a bit this summer.

Jwhdz1

This is DELICIOUS!! I get pretty good longevity and moderate projection on my skin; 6+ hours.

So glad I picked this one up!

Mrs. Do Son

Edit: Blind bought this and initially loved it. Now I smell what everyone says when they say it is off.

Drydown is pretty, opening is interesting, the heart is nausea inducing.
Save your money and don't get this one.

Edit2: Tried it again. I like it again.

vinyl_junky

A heady cocktail of lime, mint, coconut, and ylang ylang. The fragrance opens with a nice blast of lime and mint, with a hint of marine notes and sugar. The coconut and ylang ylang then kick in, and are sustained through the drydown. The whole mix is tempered by a bit of salt, to keep it from going into that sickly-sweet territory.

Definitely a fragrance for the beach, with caipirinha or mojito in hand. While billed as unisex, I feel this is slightly more on the feminine side. I still enjoy it, however, and it's definitely a great summer fragrance.

Longevity is decent, I get around 4-5 hours on my skin. However, this is a skin scent on me, with very little sillage.

Domina1

For me it was a blind buy as I read so many good reviews about Batucada. I can't smell lime much, may be a little. and I smell a lot of ylang ylang. Very strong smell. I didn't like it at first but after using it several times I liked it. My husband likes it as well. I should probably try it on other people )))) unfortunately I can't wear perfumes to my work.
Longetivity leaves much to be desired.

cristina_mtereko

this is very musky and fresh on me , a bit sour however it is my after shower perfume :)

hnica

Smells like an exotic cocktail. I get lime, coconut and milk, but no sea water or any freshness. Batucada, you don't impress me much. Sillage is very low, longevity is super short (1-2 hours). Forgettable.

Cherry_Darling

Mmm I love this really refreshing and zingy with the lime and ylang ylang but sweet enough not to have that dry bitter feel most citrusy scents tend to have. The seasalt and coconut add a tropical feel but not overbearing just a touch.

I have 100+ niche samples for swap within Europe - updated spreadsheet of samples on my profile, get in touch!

KmiluK

First off a big hit of sugared lime and some sort of mint leaf. Like you are about to sip a cocktail. Then I get the exotic flowers scent. There is something beachy there too. I think this is a summer perfume. It reminds me of holidays in the sun. Nice. Not something I would wear often but I like it.

A nod to the caipirinha cocktail. Summer, summer, summer. Batucada (great name) opens with a blast of spearmint and sea green lime. The marine notes keep this juice from becoming too juvenile, but they are very detectable so be warned. If tropical is your thing then at least grab a sample. Fans of Creed's Millesime Imperial should definitely take notice as well. I generally prefer darker scents so this is a little too sandals and sunglasses for me, but if it sounds like your cup of tea then get out and try this refreshing juice. Good lasting power for a L'Artisan perfume. I could still smell it lingering even after a shower.

milazinha

(If anyone wants to try this, happy to swap a decant for my want list.)

I really wanted to love this one, because it's inspired in a brazilian drink, caipirinha (and 'm Brazilian). Sadly, it does not remind me of such drink. It is citrusy, without much sweetness, and a tad salty. Interesting, but it's not my thing.

sleepy*weasel

Unusual. A nice balance of sweet and citrus. Lime, quite rindy and fulsome, is the first note but it's not harsh - then mint (a green mint, not peppermint) then tiare, again not overdone. It is a bit like wearing a cocktail, but it's never sickly. I can't find any coconut but the final blend is salty, woodsy, subtly tropical and beachy. On the summer shelf, very pleasant x

bugsyiii

Batucada starts limey and a little spicy but more so fruity all in one; For me, it is very reminiscent of Bois 1920 Oltremare and Bahiana or at least along those fragrance veins.

There may even be a hint of DG Light Blue in there.....I think this is a fantastic scent for summer and spring. It's winter now; I'd like to try it and see what comes of it.

shushkin

I got this in TK Maxx for a good price. I really love this to wear on hot days. Its fresh, classy and pretty. There is nothing heavy or cloying about it. I love the lime, tiare and coconut combo. I dont find it overly aquatic even though many appear to notice it in the top three notes. It manages to last about 3 hrs which is not bad considering the notes in this. The sillage is moderate to but I've not really tested it in really warm weather yet.

Valerie K

I'm LOVING this!! But, is it me or does Batucada have a dry down that smells VERY similar (if not, just about spot on)to Tom Ford's Costa Azura?

Pianomelody

The opening is very beautiful, fresh, energetic, tropical! a perfume for use in hot summer days! the favorite part remains the opening. Soft scent of sillage and longevity average in the base notes evolves almost "gourmand" .. sugar along with the mind remain "fresh" composition .. is not among my favorites, but could be better it smells good!

Sillage: 5/10
Longevity: 6.5/10
Scent: 6.5/10

Overall: 6.5/10

Moonflower11

Batucada is a typical summer fragrance. It's sparkly and fresh like a sunny day on a tropical beach. On me it opens with lime then I can smell cocconut, sugar cane and something alcoholic that reminds me a cocktail but, after a while, on me it smells like a suntan cream. For this reason I don't like too much to wear this scent. But on the mouillette I find it very nice. It lasts on me a couple of hour and sillage is very poor.

lat

I was very excited about this because majority of reviews labeled this scent as not only marine but also sweet and aromatic.
I am terribly disappointed. The scent is VERY sour like the bottom of a caipirinha with all the sugar already dissolved and drank up.
I'm sure it will work for many and it is a pretty scent but completely not what I was expecting.

bibibling

Opening: The first 0-3 minutes: Salty beach water, lime, some kind of smooth clear alcoholic beverage (I've never tried a caipirinha so I don't want to lie and say that's what I think it smells like) and a soft, pretty, perfumey but never overbearing tiare flower.

4+ minutes after it settles down: The salty ocean lime alcohol element settles down (or the nose gets used to it) and the lightly creamy tiare comes more into the foreground.

After that, pretty linear, did not notice the coconut (one of my favorite notes.)

I have an obsession with beachy perfumes, to name a few: Bobbi Brown Beach, Margiela Beach Walk, Lolita Lempicka Elle L'aime, Creed's Aventus and Virgin Island Water and my ultimate favorite of all time Heeley's Coccobello and I would rate this near the top. Unlike may other ones, this has no suntan-lotion-smell at all, which is a nice change and it also doesn't choke on the white flowers. However it IS very sea-salty and limey so I'd say try before you buy, espeially if it's hard for you to imagine what it might smell like from the reviews.

Very cool and unique, definitely a summer fragrance and in my opinion, completely unisex.

Gigi27

This is citrusy-sweet, salty, beachy, and all other things mentioned before.

However, it is also a l'Artisan: expect none of the screechiness or cheap suntan lotion of lesser summer offerings, no overbearing coconut, no bug spray. Complex enough to remain interesting, and the drydown is delicious, almost woody I'd say.

It does have a very subtle whiff of cumin (I doubt Batucada is restricted to its listed notes here, it's a more intricate fragrance than that), but take it from this cumin and indoles-phobe: it smells absolutely clean.

A delight.

amidwestheart

I really didn't care for this as a dab on my hand. I got a decant of it as a bonus in a swap and threw caution to the wind. Went for the whole hog spray. And...I love it! So refreshing and citrusy sweet. I'm a fan!

reborn

Very strong citrus and mint at first ,after that it smells like strong body odour on me.What went wrong?

roo_p

I happened upon a sampler of this, and there’s only one word for Batucada: joyful.

It’s light, it’s floral, it’s citrusy… and there’s that rum and coconut vibe somewhere in the background, but none of it is overwhelming or oppressive. It’s not too much of any of those, nor too little. I’m not the manliest of men, but it seems to work very well for me. Definitely considering grabbing a bottle of this.

John Mason

A sumer day on a beach... samba music and tanned bodies moving in a rhythm.
Fresh citrus opening mixed with sun cream lotion and subtle ylang-ylang. A minty losenge dropped into sugary mojito drink.
The composition incorporates a skin accord as well, which I can't smell, unfortunately. The scent is familiar and natural, stays close to the skin and doesn't project.
Longevity on me is 8 hours, more than 10 on clothes. Test this before buying a full bottle. There are better alternatives out there.
(score: 73%)

suzrwin

I tried this before looking at the scent notes, and about an hour in, I thought, mint! Well sure enough. I want to like this, but the marine accord often plays like eau du bug spray on my skin, and this is no exception. I may try again when the weather turns warmer, but in cool rainy weather, this is a no-go for me.

tropic sugar

First of all I would like to say that to me perfume is like art,it is an impression of a certain place or thing. For some fragrances you have to have an imagination. This is one of those fragrances.I bought this blindly based on notes alone and some reviews from different websites. Some people said it was lacking for a L'Artisan fragrance and others absolutely loved it and I am one of the ones that loved it.It is one of the best blended perfumes I have ever smelled and its very natural and non synthetic. When you spray this you can really smell all of the notes all the way until the dry down but on my skin the sea salt and suntan lotion vibe is what I notice the most. There is a slight. dirtyness similar to what you smell in Angel that might be a turn off to some but to me its part of its allure. If your in hot weather all day at the beach your gonna smell salty sweat all around you but when its mixed with ocean salt and coconut suntan lotion and your sipping on a lime cocktail I guarantee no one is going to care at least I wouldn't.I wouldn't call this a feminine fragrance but a citrus beachy scent.Longevity on my dry skin is awesome. This is a high quality FUN fragrance that I will be having a blast wearing this summer with my beachy boho attire. This will bloom in the heat and I guarantee that this perfume will bring to your mind the palms swaying in the breeze, the ocean waves crashing on the shore and the last remnants of suntan lotion and sun on your skin. Now your headed to get a lime drink and relax.Yes you get all of that in one bottle.I do anyway.

FTW Nose

I really enjoy this juice. It reminds me slightly of Virgin Island Water from Creed. It offers a unique twist on the theme though with the addition of a more fruity opening. I feel as though when my 10 mil sample is all gone, I will get a full bottle.

My Score 8.5

svetlana.kogan.73

Unfortunately this fragrance did not agree with me at all. I am a Pitta type of a person from the Ayurvedic standpoint and I believe it was the sour, lime aspect of this fragrance, which rubbed me the wrong way. I tested it from an authentic sample and instantly smelled alcoholic vomitus type of odor. The intensity of this nasty smell waned in about an hour, leaving my skin smelling sour and unclean for about one more hour. This is the first L'Artisan fragrance which I dislike and hopefully the last.

tessture

What a great fresh green summer scent! Crisp, light, fun. Wish it lasted longer

Fizzy

Open a bottle of white Havana rum 6 aňeos 3 aňos, let it stay for a month so, that the alcohol evaporates, add coconut milk and 10 tablespoon sugar and now smell this.

Museumgal

At first this is a sour, fresh tropical drink, like a margarita or mojito. Like a mix of both with the salt, lime, and mint. Then as it calms down I get a milky, coconut milk feel to it although it still feels part of an alcoholic drink. Very boozy, refreshing, slightly sweet without being too cloying. Delicious! Great for summer. Lasts about 3 hours.

butterbean

Fresh sweet wet fresh lime juice with a salted rim.
It does have a sweet mojito flare but the mint is very light.

This is a summery fresh light citrus perfume. About an hour in, some of the floral notes come out a bit, but they are very muted and almost spicy.

Sweet juicy lime and salty oceanic notes carry through the fragrance. Lovely coconut that pairs very nice with this scent.

I think its a great fresh, very citrusy, light scent that is super non offensive. GREAT in hot summer heat.

Longevity is quite good! 8 - 9 hours

freakypirate

Review from a sample (dabber):
Batucada opens with zesty lime, spicy and fruity, with a tiny hint of bitter lime peel. It reminds me of a tropical cocktail, it's almost a gourmand for me.

Then the perfume starts to settle down and the florals appear, in a salty sea breeze. The lime keeps lingering through.

Longevity is moderate, sillage is soft on me. Didn't get any mint or coconut.

I can see how this scent can be unisex. I like it on me, but I'd also very much like to smell this on a man. Smells like a good party is about to happen!

Lana148

Batucada is nice & weird at the same time. Definitely tropical - salty sea air mixed with lime, gentle tropical floral and little mint.

This is different for sure. Salt vs. Sugar combination somehow reminds me of a line of Womanity by Thierry Mugler.

chillisorbet

Never been a huge fan on L'Artisan - on me they tend to either become very plain or soapy. But I've been looking for a summer citrusy fragrance for years. Standard citrus usually smells like dishwashing liquid on me, so I've almost given up. Reading reviews on this one I decided to give it a try. And didn't regret!

It is tropical, slightly citrusy, very summery and lively! Despite all this it is not your usual spritz. It is very rich, yet fresh, doesn't give you headache (which is vital for me) and smell good on "hot skin". If you can't wear anything "fresh" and have to go for more heavy and sweet fragrances, then try this one.

Phantosmia Bella

I gave this perfume a couple of tries.
The initial blast is amazing - alcoholic, citrusy, coconut sweetness with a grand sea breeze.
Then all is drowned down by a certain scent, like the sea breeze notes takes a bad twist towards b.o.
So sad, as this is a super funky and fun scent up to that point.
I just hope that it'll work better with your chemistry than it does with mine.

Houdini4

To me this is a sugary floral, Tiare flower and ylang ylang with a thirst quenching hint of aquatic seabreeze and an exotic cocktail type feel to it. I'd largely disagree that this fragrance is all about the lime margarita thing which it does vaguely conjure up in the opening but soon becomes apparent Batucada is more about the flowers.
It leans toward the feminine for me but do you know what...that doesn't bother me in the slightest.
I love this fragrance...I really love it.
Not sure I could pull it off with such a butch reputation to uphold, another wear and I may have an answer. L'Artisan is a good house offering quality and invention at a slightly more reasonable price this is yet another good one.

Update: Oh yes!!! Wearing this today and I have cemented my position finally. I will be purchasing Batucada it's tropical wonder juice so, so good and really unlike anything I have currently. It was between this and Antigua which came in a close second place.

Eneli

Woah, am I the only one who actually thinks it's quite nice perfume? Citrusy, but not in a harsh way like many other citrus smelling scents. It makes me think of a lovely sea-breeze.

maio2012

Spidola, look at a brazilian dictionary. Or live here.

maio2012

Cachaça, lime and mint can be an interesting drink, but it is NOT CAIPIRINHA! Batucada is not a subtype of samba; it is any afro rhythm made predominantly with percussion instruments. As a brazilian I can only imagine that L´Artisan is well-minded, but didn´t studied minimally the country that will host the 2014 FIFA World CUP and the 2016 Olympic Games.

spidola

What a mess! Lime and mint and salt and some kind of alcohol…like a Margherita cocktail, but with a hint of mint…I love Margherita, but I can’t imagine to smell like this. It would be weird. But maybe exactly that it should be – confusional and incomprehensible. When I imagine the carnival of Rio I could use the same adjective – confusional; and actually Batucada is a subcategory of the famous Samba danced in Rio…
I cannot detect any coconut, neither any sweet notes. The dry down is rather masculine, even animalic and I admit - I LOVE it a lot! It’s worth waiting for an hour for enjoying it… I can imagine a funny, exuberant, well dressed (but in all colors) young man wearing it for some hot summer nights out.

leomat2008

Excuse-me, but here in Brasil we don´t drink caipirinha with mint. I live in Minas Gerais State, the land of cachaça and the original caipirinha recipe only includes cachaça, sugar, lime and ice. The drink recipe with mint leaves is mojito (that is not a brazilian drink). Well, I don´t know how caipirinha is served outside Brasil...

P.s.: Thinking more about brazilian scents I guess mint not even represents Brazil. We don´t use mint in any recipes from north to south. We only use mint in pineapple juice.

There was hundred ingredients they could put in this for represent Brasil like pitanga, acerola, mexerica, jaboticaba, cajú, pequi, mate, cidreira, cajá, mangaba, cagaita, mamacadela, seriguela, gabiroba, acaí, guaraná, castanha do pará, buriti, andiroba, maracujá, cupuaçu, jaca, fruta do conde, pimenta malagueta... hundreds.

L'eaulita

Straight up Margarita, salt rim included. Tart, freshly cut open lime, enough to make you salviate and your jaw ache. A touch of sugar, a splash of fizz..and then salt, salt, salt. I can only apply it sparingly on the wrists and behind the knees, any closer and it feels like a face full of sea spray. Really have to be in the mood to wear this one and the conditions have to be right so as not to amplify the salt. Huge sillage and good longevity.

carlosrafael

Great summer concoction: sweet, flowery, citrusy...and oceanic good

Batucada is a great summer fragrance. Certainly, it is not a linear one. During its initial phase, Batucada is alluring and unique, it feels like spraying a sweet lime-based drink surrounded by tropical flowers (unisex flowery). During its middle life it slowly turns into a sweet flowery and aqueous composition. Last, during its dry down, it morphs into salty skin fragrance.

The first blast of Batucada is lovely. The lime scent is natural, refreshing, delicious, and sweet (due to the sugar note). This lasts for about 30 minutes. At this point the Ylang-Ylang and Tiare kick in adding elegance to Batucada, Also the mint shows up, adding a sparkling freshness. So within 30 minutes Batucada is in full swing and at its most captivating point. It is sweet, pleasant, elegant, and refreshing, perfectly suitable for hot, steamy, and wet weather conditions.

These notes dance together for 1 hour. It's the best part of Batucada. I'm happy at this point. This is how I want to smell all day long on a Caribbean vacation If I had to walk all day under a searing tropical sun. I really like how it performs here in Florida where you don't want a perfume to suffocate other people or you from the heat.

As Batucada approaches the 1st hour mark, the lime begins to fade away slowly, the Tiare and Ylang-Ylang stay, and the aquatic and salty notes begin to surface. This aquatic/salty combo accord makes my skin smell like as it does at the end of a day at the beach and salty ocean water has evaporated over it multiple times.

I wish I could pick a little coconut in Batucada as some people report, but unfortunately I don't get anything at all.

Batucada usually lasts about 5-6 hours on me. However, there have been times I can still get wafts of it much longer than that.

esteban747

A ticket to Brazil, one way, please!
Oh, this is so good.
A few weeks ago I tried ananas Fizz, and I was disappointed.
Batucada is what I expect from a tropical fragrance. Fresh, fun, fruity, with some aquatic accords (just the right amount)and a little bit sugary.
So many things are going on at the same time that is hard to describe it. The lime, tiare and sugar make an explosive opening, then the salt, sea water and mint bring a fresh burst while the sugar plays all the way.
It feels like a rollercoaster, a wonderful one. The dry down is more quiet, like a sunset at the beach, when the sand is still warm but a light cool breeze starts to blow.
Fantastic. After my bad impression of L'Artisan with Ananas Fizz, I have to say that thanks to Batucada I have a new respect for this house.

alfarom

Overly sweet and *cheap* smelling concoction of coconut, calone and some booze with salty facets.

Smells somewhere between a long drink, laundry detergent and a mass market white floral. Dreadful.

Rating: 4/10

smelling_gr8

Now I understand sherapop's comment about 'needing a shower' lol. I have put a sample of Batucada on as I went out for a jog. Bad move...honestly...the heat and sweat from jogging just exacerbated the saltiness of this perfume. All rather odd as I didn't get any saltiness at all when testing on a perfume strip, just got lime and marine notes...hhhmmm.
I could smell like this free of charge...no hang on...maybe for the cost of one lime...I could go for a jog on a hot sunny day and instead of having a shower afterwards, I could just rub juicy lime under my arms. It would achieve the same effect!
I can picture festival goers or surfers perhaps wearing this but not me sadly.

PricklyAndHot

Finally I found crispy, juicy and fresh lime fragrance!

This fragrance with the lime and the mint note is a truly delight for the hot weather!

And thanks to the other notes, it smells unique enough comparing with other fresh citrusy fragrances. The most noticeable floral note is ylang-ylang. But it is far from being intensive as usual here luckily.

It's sweet a little bit sweet and salty at the same time:)

This fragrance is my favorite by L'Artisan Parfumeur.

Awesome!!!

thecapn

Sherapop described this perfectly with the phrase, "drunk and in desperate need of a shower". Batucada is a light aquatic, citrus, and coconut beach scent that has been drenched in rum and has partied all night, resulting in just a hint of sweet perfume behind all the booze and sweat. Interesting, but I generally try not to smell I've spent the night drinking mojitos and dancing on the beach, even if that's what I'd love to be doing.

pretty_in_pink

This perfume reminds me of the movie ‘Cocktail’. I swear I can actually hear the opening title soundtrack by the Beach Boys when testing this scent...bermuda, bahama, come on pretty mama.....

Batucada has such a laid-back beach vibe.

Straight off the bat, I mean beach, I get a fresh dose of mint, shaken not stirred crushed with white rum on ice. Vanilla ice. And lot's of fresh cut lime. Then there is a beautiful tiare flower, white in the heart of this fragrance that gives it a golden glow. And in the first 20 minutes, I can even detect the tiniest amount of pepper along with some grapefruit.

After 4 hours, the white floral heart is left. No salt for me either. To be honest, this is not an overly coconut-ty scent, although others may disagree - it's definitely more on the fresh citrus, white floral and aquatic. In the style of Issey Miyake, but not as clever. It is sweet, but not overtly so.

And then at the 5 hour mark, the sun begins to set on this fragrance or maybe it’s the high tide line that washes this one away. But this doesn't worry me. Like a freshly muddled mojito that goes down all too easy, I am happy to reach for the 'bottle' of Batucada for another shot, I mean spritz.

Overall, a pleasant, very wearable, interesting summer scent that is delicious enough for me to consider ordering it.....if indeed cocktail hour was on.

I do happen to think this perfume is a bit too pricey for what's on offer....like paying tourist prices on a celebrity infested Caribbean Island when there is a much more beautiful, interesting destination nearby for half of the price.

But if someone wanted to gift this one to me, I would happily add it to my perfume wardrobe and wear it to channel my inner beach goddess. It is delightful, enjoyable and oh so summery.

LuluSaintly

I was given a 100ml bottle of this by the company, but I didn't like it at first pass. In fact, I gave it away to a friend - a decision I now seriously regret!!! I kept a few mil of it and tried it again recently, and I 'got' it. It's a seriously summery, beachy fragrance, with a lot of staying power, and after a long, hot day in the sun, it dries down to a gorgeous, soft, suntan lotion smell. Since it's meant to evoke a Brazilian cocktail, I think they've hit the nail right on the head with the formulation. Having give away 100ml, I'm now eyeing a 50ml bottle, silly me. My earlier review is below.

2012: this is not my cup of tea. The drydown on me is good - vanilla and coconut, like I've spent all day in the sun, but I agree with the poster who says it's more like a Comptoir Sud Pacifique fragrance than an Artisan Parfumeur. That said, a male friend virtually grabbed it out of my hand and used up most of the bottle inside a month - he simple loves it and is an Eau Sauvage fan normally - so it's clearly a matter of taste.

ketchup38

It's certainly an interesting scent.. one I don't come across often. I allowed myself to indulge in a small sample just for the sake of breaking away from what to me is starting to seem like my array of predictable scents. First the marine sharpness hits me, then the citrus and lastly just fresh innocent sweetness. Lasts on my skin for about 5hours tops before I find myself fishing for my little atomizer again to refresh. Glad I got this in the small 4ml atomizer. Would love it as a gift, but to re-purchase again for the hefty price-tag.. I'm afraid I may have to let it slide in favour of Papillons also by L'artisan

sparris

I'm not sure how much I like this but it's certainly interesting.

Very fresh/aquatic at the start then a salty-to me very salty-phase kicks in. This is the bit I like best but on both occasions I wore this a paraffin-like note appeared after 30 mins-1h and it's something I'm not terribly fond of.
After this it's a mélange of notes I can't really separate well, smells ok but not great. If I put my nose close to the skin and breathe on the spot where I applied this perfume I get the sugar cane, something spicy and underneath it something vaguely animalic(not a bad thing in my book).

There will probably be occasions when I want to wear this but it's not fb worthy to me.

sherapop

L'Artisan Parfumeur BATUCADA has a distinctly vacationing-in-the-Caribbean feeling to it, so much so that I wonder whether it would not fit in better among the Comptoir Sud Pacifique line-up. I smell a big blast of bad cocktail evaporating in an abandoned glass at a sidewalk café near the seashore. Rum is a key note, to my nose.

Apparently that was the point of BATUCADA, judging from the text on the manufacturer's carded sample:

"L'effervescence et le rythme de Rio. Vibrant, joyeux, sensuel."

I'd add to that series: drunk and in desperate need of a shower.

BATUCADA is a fairly lively brew for L'Artisan Parfumeur, but it seems like a novelty scent to me, something that belongs in an aluminum can and can be tossed into one's luggage on a whim before embarking on a weekend trip to somewhere near the Equator where rum runs fast and free.

In all honesty, I cannot imagine wanting to smell like this. Désolée.

clover.chen

when i first smelled it, i wasnt really taken by it. went to the store again and this time had it sprayed on one of my arm. have to say this perfume worked really well with my skin chemistry. even i and the store sales people were a little surprised the scent worked on me without seeming 'off'. my flatmate does say it reminds her of other scents, so im not sure how unique this is. but i love the smell and would be great for hot climate areas.

Smat

It's a very nice fragrance on the top notes. But after a while on my skin, it started to smell harsh and sharp and it's a big no for me.

cacraine

I tried this because it was supposed to be similar to CREED Virgin Island Water. I was dissapointed. I smell the Lime initially which is similar to VIW, after a few minutes there is a hint of sweetness and mint followed quickly by salt. This fragrance is so salty to me I can taste it. I am taken mentally to a Volleyball tournament on the beach where one of the players has had a Mojito spilled on them. This is how this fragrance smells to me...sweaty (salty) and like a Mojito. Maybe it would be good to wear to the beach for that reason......imagine..sniff sniff...is that sweat I smell? No, it's Batacuda.

vertigo

Batucada is a very nice, friendly scent.
I don't find it harsh or weird at all.
It brings beach, ocean and fun to my mind.

It's a kind of a sweet, damp, sugary citrus smell.
I get mostly lime, mint and tiare.
Actually, has a lot of 'mojito' feeling to it.
When you finish your drink and there's some lime and brown sugar left at the bottom of your glass - you spear the lime with your straw, dip in the sugar and place it on your tongue. Delicious!

But, somehow, I can't imagine myself wearing this scent.
Although I could go for a party with someone smelling of it! :)
I also think some may found it too mainstream smelling. Lasts about 3-4 hours.

Salty, aromatic, fresh and full of lime and mint exaclty as a well served caipirinha should be. Original and unique. But I can't wear it, honestly. If I'm not mistaken it was released in June (at least in Italy) when I first sniffed it.

I had a very quick sniff of this in the London store last week so this isn't a full review just first impression for anyone who's interested.
Firstly I'm surprised it's being released in September as it seems to be a quintessential summer cologne. Very citrusy on the opening I only tried it on paper so didn't get the drydown of coconut etc. The top notes however were a very pleasent lime with a not too sweet floral backing it up. I wasn't blown away but it seems to be a nice, if a tad generic, unisex.
