weazal

Applies floral/fruity vanilla that’s quite feminine.

Dense vetiver builds out mid, adding deepness. Settles into a base of warm/spiced mahogany wood, tonka bean, rum. Most of the experience is fruity violet floral + vanilla with a dry streak that’s overall classy playdough.

Comparison to JPL’s “Le Male” is accurate - but this is more laundry and gourmand. Hard to imagine guys wearing this.

Cookie dough and licorice.

Warm, cozy and magical

I'm not too fond of Licorice based fragrances because I'm just not. I consider them overly aggressive and intrusive. BUT this fragrance from Lolita Lempicka was launched around 2000, just when modern perfumerie was on the cusp of being battered, butchered and beaten because of those demagogues over at the IFRA. Au Masculin just survived and thank the Lord because it's a totally top drawer scent. Quality note after quality note and it's lasts eternally even surviving a shower. If I buy another one it'll probably be a Vintage formulation because God only knows what it's like nowadays. I think Annick Menardo is a fine perfumer that doesn't get enough recognition. To me though that reputation is solid

This was an absolute beauty, one of my favourite fragrances of all time so sad it was discontinued. The newer version is similar but extremely disappointing. The original was kinda similar to Heure Verte by Killian but much lighter and had forest like element to it. I miss this so much but can’t afford to pay what people are asking for the few bottles left. I wish they brought the original back or someone copied it. Heartbreaking!

LeSmeller

This is the original perfume, later replaced by Lempicka Homme. The notes and accords listed are practically identical, so it's interesting to compare the two. Some people have noted that the successor is inferior and I would agree. I tried Homme first and found it somewhat dull. Au Masculine is more juicy and more spacious, airy. It's an aura. In comparison, smelling Homme is like smelling a solid object, a crayon, for example. Or maybe it's just a matter of better performance. In short, it's a very clear cut case of the versions of the same fragrance, one better, one worse. Au Masculin is decidedly better blended and smells more natural. After a few hours the scents diverge in character: Au Masculin continues mostly as it was, while Homme becomes more sweet-woody in the style of Dior Homme Intense.

Overall, it's warm-spicy-sweet-sour. I don't like the sourness in this combination. If you enjoy Armani Code, you might want to try Au Masculin.

Dream of the lovers by Marc chagall 1962

Lolita Lempicka Au Masculin is probably the most incomprehensible fragrance in my collection.
I am positively sure I bought it in 2010, used about 10% of it, then I put it in the dark dungeon of my closet, since I didn't like it very much then...
Fast forward to TODAY, this fragrance has been dorment in my closet for 13 years!
Checking its batch code now: 0H095 - it says July 2020, which is RIDICULOUS! - I remember, Barack Obama was still president when I bought this bottle.
They say that the batch code repeats every 10 years, so my bottle is indeed 13 years old!

I sprayed on top of my hand. Not a big spraying, as I don't love the gourmand type of fragrances very much.
Upon spraying it, I smelt something sweet and very faint, some anise, pralines, it took about 30 seconds, the fragrance started to CHANGE again and become stronger, I could smell rum, vanilla and almonds, few minutes have passed, a strong licorice-basil took over and lingered. Then after an hour, the scent becomes faint again, almost vanilla-baby type smell, but again It came back strong and boozy!
Au Masculin confuses me! It comes and goes, like it is an alive BEING, it keeps changing and showing different facets of its complexity.
I never had such multidimensional type of fragrance. Sometimes, you think it's gone, then it comes back and punches you in your face. Always "warm" and sweet.
I don't really like it, but people around me LOVE IT!. Adriana, a friend of mine is obsessed about Au Masculin. She hugs me and whiffs my neck whenever I put it. She says it's the best fragrance
I have, I disagree entirely... I love my freshies and anything Cartier Declaration, my blue fragrances and spices...
I may keep it, but I think that Gourmand fragrances will never grow on me...

When this came out, back in the 2000, this was fantastic and I used it until the very last drop of it. When I tried to buy it again, after a number of years, I found out it is hard to find, and when I got my hands on a sample, (last year) I bought it immediately. But ..... I was very disappointed. I am guessing that the sample I got was reformulated and lost all the uniqueness it had. I do not look for it the anymore. The older version is now too expensive (if it is the old version) ! For the same price, I would go for a better newer perfume or niche perfume.

Ahhhh….I really can’t even put into words just how MUCH I LOVE this…..except to say, if I were to come into contact with a Man wearing this, I’d SWOON! This IS..Hands down the most pleasant, inoffensive and ALLURING fragrance for men that my nose has ever had the PLEASURE of smelling.

Because of my LOVE for it, I had to acquire some just for myself…to inhale whenever the mood strikes me…AND until I can find a Man willing (or by force? 😂) to put some on for me. Since it has…WHY??? 😫😫 been discontinued, I’m making it one of my life missions to acquire as many bottles of this that I CAN!

YES….this IS my Crack…😂

windchime_00

The bad reviews are probably mistaking this for Homme which is a cheap copy that is trying too hard. I don't know what they were thinking. Maybe it is due to regulations of past ingredients, but I'm not sure. It's the difference between hearing a song masterfully performed vs. someone trying too hard at karaoke on your favorite song. I wish they would bring this one back.

RobbieX

It's fresh and clean. For licorice lovers. Au Masculin is a classic.

corpapril

On me this smells like the carpet cleaner spray that neutralizes the smell of pet messes. About an hour after I put it on, I got a whiff and was very confused because I didn't remember cleaning up any cat hairballs from the carpet. Then, I realized it was this fragrance. I love wearing feminine version, so I was expecting to like this. I guess this one just really doesn't agree with my body chemistry.

natashastri

Fresh powdery spice bowl, he's gentle but surprisingly he steals your heart, too. I gifted this to my husband (then boyfriend) as a blind buy, but thank God he likes it and it smells nice on him. He was 23 or 24 when I gave him this and it suits him even more in his late 20s. It's not a what I can call a crowd pleaser or a safe blind buy, but it's safe for sweaty sunny day or if you work at an office with full-blown AC. Moderate longetivity, something around 4-5 hours and then ends as a smooth skin scent.

odeur_mon_dieu

I like this scent, but not on me. The anise is a bit overbearing, but it’s definitely one of the most unique fragrances out there.

chimidoro

On my skin (female), this is rich and powerful, spicy-sweet licorice. So potent, it almost goes into that burnt rubber territory that you hear tell of.

The sharpness (anise) and woodiness (vetiver) is what makes it feel masculine on me, the female versions are softened and smoothed out whereas this has a harsh kick to it, rough around the edges. It doesn't have the sweetened base of the female versions.

This stuff is so strong!
If you have it, you should treat it like gold dust. Apply only in moderation.

Absolutely gorgeous fragrance, albeit a touch headache inducing for me to wear personally. Purchased many years ago (early formula) for my male best friend.
It definitely smells like I'm wearing a men's scent, although it doesn't smell anything like this on my friend to be honest, not at all.

Thumbs up. I've always been a big fan of the (main range of) Lempickas and this one's no exception. Would love to have tried the other Au Masculin variants while they were in production.

Just a shame this smells better on me than on my friend or he might actually want to wear it - if it smelled as it does on me when he wore it.
This would smell so amazing on the right skin, on a male that it truly suits.

villiruusut

Lempicka Homme was on discount in a departmental store, so I tried it and really disliked the drydown (I'm thinking it's because I'd accidentally mixed some JHAG Not a Perfume and I have only quite recently learnt that ambrox and their derivatives are not my friends). I went to read around Homme and Au Masculin and was deeply intrigued about the latter. I'd managed to find a sample being sold online so I bought it and left it on the backburner while I was busy trying out many other perfumes as I'd just begun down the fragrance rabbit hole. I'd only realised that I'd completely forgotten about it when I was organising my fragrances yesterday and decided that it was time to try it.

BOY, it was amazing. It's like a fresher, greener, less gourmand version of the Lolita Lempicka LPP (that's the one I own, I haven't had the good fortune to try the original EDP from 1997). I've been extremely intrigued by ivy-forward perfumes and this one is delightfully grassy. It helps that I enjoy licorice/anise notes in perfumes so this one hits all the right spots for me. After waking up the next morning, the violet and ivy notes remain quite perceptible on my arm and it feels as though I've woken up in the middle of some dewy woodlands. Lempicka Homme pales in comparison to Lolita Lempicka Au Masculin - the former smells like play dough compared to this. While this has a masculine name to it, I do think the scent's quite unisex and very wearable on any occasion at any time of the day/year.

Again, an absolute shame for being discontinued but you'll find the minis still being sold in the bunches in some discounters'.

Rob321x

The newer version does not compare to this beauty. Wow I’m shocked how good this is. I found a vintage bottle for a fair price and I’m speechless.

jameske

I have this and like the scent very much, but on my skin it is too sweet for me. The liquorice and aniseed aroma is delightful but the almondy sweetness that goes with it is too much for me, with great regret.

I much prefer Kilian's L'heure Verte which is a darker composition, but I cannot bring myself to dislike this fragrance. For those that can stand sweeter scents this is excellent.

samosbabos

Same vanilla accord that used in JPG Le Male. They are very similar in terms of sweetness but in au masculin there are liquor and spices like anise. Anise is very prominent with vanilla.

In this price range this one is MAGNIFICENT. Performance is moderate...

RobbieX

A masterpiece. Amazing sublime smell. My number one.

hotrodangel

The drydown on this is to die for. Star anise, tonka and vanilla - it's bright, yet cosy. Very playful and unique fragrance.

polaroidcaesar

I somehow lucked out and got a 100ml 2001 vintage with the built-in sprayer for around $30.

Man this is amazing stuff.

The opening of Au Masculin immediately brings a few different things to mind. You certainly get a green ivy-vibe, an herbal twist, and some definite booziness which brings to mind absinthe, Jägermeister, and Chartreuse. However, from the outset the powdery vanilla and tonka of the base can be smelt loud and clear.

The clash between greenness and powdery coumarin sweetness immediately reminds me of barbershop fougère fragrances. It also instantly calls a few other 90s and early 2000s staples to mind: Jean Paul Gaultier’s Le Male (1995), Versace’s The Dreamer (1996), and Armani’s Code (2004). Yes, Au Masculin definitely smells like a product of its time, and that fresh, clean, powdery, cologne-like barbershop vibe remains throughout the life of the fragrance.

Personally, I quite like that part of the fragrance, as I own and love The Dreamer and quite like Le Male and Code. Smelling it instantly takes me back to the late 90s and early 2000s – the scents that people wore, the optimism and hope, the vibrancy of the times. It’s like a little time machine to a happier, simpler time. However, if you aren’t all that keen on fragrances like that, you might not enjoy Au Masculin.

Soon, through a veil of booze and vanilla, the licorice begins to emerge. This is where it begins to differentiate itself from stuff like Le Male. On skin, there is a bitter but candy-like licorice vibe that really does smell like a bag of freshly opened licorice wheels. This blends perfectly with the herbal touches (which retreat in the drydown) and the emergent vanilla-praline-tonka bean powder base.

The closer you get to skin, the more bitter, herbal, green, and licoricey the fragrance smells, while in the air you get a rich, dense, creamy vanilla kind of scent with a touch of licorice and those clean barbershoppy flourishes. I love the smell so much; it reminds me of a thick, creamy shaving foam mixed with vanilla ice cream and licorice syrup.

In the deep drydown, the sweetness starts to fade a bit as the woods appear out of a fog of powder and vanilla, but unfortunately the greenness is nowhere to be found at this stage, just a humming warmth. That warm, woody, vanillaey, powdery sweetness is all that remains on skin for hours and hours.

Performance is strong but not overwhelming, and I find Au Masculin to be very long-lasting.

Definitely pick it up if you find it! It is wonderful, and I wanna hit myself for ignoring this for so long.

Lolita Lempicka Au Masculin

All the notes align just perfectly for my taste on paper, but on my skin they don’t translate the same. Up top I do get the lovely anise and violet and it is so wonderful to my nose! I wish it would just stop there and stay there! Unfortunately, on me the tonka bean comes in and basically washes over everything for a while; and while a little tonka is good, I don’t want it that strong on me. Finally, there is some relief with the cedar but the vanilla kind of keeps that tonka vibe going. I would wear this to work as it’s very safe, not much projection and not offensive. To me wearing this out for an evening would get lost so I don’t. Honestly while this probably is best when it is a bit cooler, I think it could be used in the summer even. On me it lasted about 4 hours at arm’s length, then skin scent for an hour or so then gone completely. Stayed fairly close to me even with 7 sprays around my neck, chest and arms. I think this one could definitely be a unisex fragrance. It’s nice enough and I’ll use up my bottle, but won’t be replacing it when it’s gone.

As always, your result may vary!

WGG

This is great stuff, nights out, club etc. The anise is smooth and sweet but not too sweet. The vibe is like TFs Plum Japonais, another luxurious, exotic beauty. Bottles are now so rare, I'm down to fumes, Dua are you listening?

Endlessfumes

I tried the femme version like decades ago and decided to get this now and omg! This one is the longest lasting and the most progressive from all my collection.
For the first 3 hours is not for everyone.
4+ hours to 15+ hours everything that not so many people like "licorice, anise, sweetnes" this all blends and progress into woody & musky gentleman scent like the name says "Eau Masculin" this is a piece of art and a niche quality with superb performance and longevity.
I got a very good old batch 12 years old 50ml for 18$ only!

xkltr

Being a massive anise&vanilla fan, I went berserk when I saw this beauty with its lovely bottle. The hunt ensued. And after a fair bit of searching around, I caught Tinkerbell.

This is definitely quite unique both in design and scent. The body of the fragrance mainly consists of this lovely, smooth play-doh smell. It blooms into this tender-yet-spiky ivy, anise and basil combo in the opening, a playful licorice, and a garden full of flowers yet to be named.

I'd love for it to last a bit longer on my skin. This turns quite intimate after a couple of hours. Amazing line, though. I'd like to get my paws on EDP Intense, which I've heard is yet heavier on anise. One can only hope.

faubel

My main Lolita fragrance is the Minuit feminine version. This is my second favorite, and I keep a sample vial in my bag for emergency mood management at work. They are both pretty sweet, sweeter than the older EDP apple release. To my nose, this and the feminine EDP are more similar, and the Minuit is off on a tangent.

I don't find this particularly masculine, but it is strong. I wouldn't wear it in close proximity with others in an enclosed space. It really radiates off the skin, and is a distinctive scent.

Vumash

Something really puts me off here, one of my biggest dislikes. Anise is too strong for my like but at the same time you get 100% what you ask for. It's really an anise bomb and for me it's hard to find anything else from it. I believe this is love or hate, there is no between that exists.

UnearthlyApothecary

Ooooommg! Why have I waited so long to try this? I bought a dirt cheap mini from a perfume discounter site to try because this one has gotten way too expensive to blind buy. I’m not at all interested in trying the new reformulated version. To me, this is all black licorice. Dark, deep black licorice with a bit of a boozy absinthe vibe over a delicious woodsy cedar base. This is my perfect comfort scent, it’s like my olfactory soul food. I could wear it every day without tiring. I love this more then the L.L for women. Fabulous silage, will update later on longevity.

alphairone

Oh Anise, shoo-be-doo, how I love you, Anise, shoo-be-doo...

Anise, anise...and more anise, but there is sort of a rooty licorice in abundance here. However, this isn't a cloying Brach's gum drop anise here, it's not heavily sugar-coated, but on the contrary, has some rather green elements to counterbalance it: wormwood, basil, and a lovely inedible ivy note keeps confectionary impressions in check and render this opening as more of a Chartreuse-like cordial.

The heart reveals more of the violet (which always pairs well with anisic notes) and eventually dries down to a bourbon vanilla and tonka, with woodier elements of cedar and labdanum coming to the fore after a few hours. The base is the most sensual and intoxicating phase, lingering for quite some time, braised with a nutty praline.

This particular bottle/formulation is becoming more difficult to obtain, so seek it out while there's still a chance...

JimmyMisfit

Tried through Fragrance X and am intrigued. The opening seemed floral and formal--I imagined a grandmother putting on makeup before sitting at an antique desk to write a love letter to a general away at war. However, overall it's not extra-powdery or feminine. More unisex, especially after it became a bit "greener" and spicier. I really like anise/licorice/wormwood, but those notes seemed in the background compared to a fragrance called 24 Elixir: Rise of the Superb which has artemisia, (Wormwood, I think, is a variety of artemisia). I think the vanilla is well-balanced unless you're hoping for a really sweet gourmand. (For example, Love's True Bluish Light is beautiful but truly does make me hungry.) This is more masculine (after the first minute or so), milder, a bit balsamic, and a tiny bit woody. If you're not into citrusy/fruity fragrances but still want something fairly sweet, you might like this a lot.

Barker

Hello, is the 2006 edition with the different bottle the same scent as the original?

Kronstadt

A sweet boozy, anise, vanilla bomb!! The lighter notes are sharp, but dissipate in seconds to leave a wash of sweet scent that lasts for ages. I love this fragrance, with the herbal notes closer to the skin than the boozy, vanilla, and licorice notes, which project outwards. I am so happy with this purchase and would encourage you to grab a bottle. Unsure how easily it is to get, but it’s worth the chase.

Alive

Annick Menardo did a true masterpiece with Au Masculin. Here's the fragrance for those men who are romantic, poetic, charming and aren´t affraid of showing their emotions. Sadly this is another one that entered the discontinued realm. For many years it was in my purchase list while it was still available in stores, and when I finally had the chance of buying one it was completely gone.

Imagine this is the fragrance that The Hatter wears in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, it's magical and sweet, yet manly and mysterious. Sweet, sexy, attractive... Love it!

Unmodernize

Smells like an early Le Male with liqorice. I love it.

I am lucky enough to have one of the bottles with no cap/sprayer built into the bottle! Supposedly the newer formulations of this one (bottles with a cap) are a lot weaker/watered down. I have not smelled them so I cannot compare, but the older version performs nicely. This is a licorice fragrance through and through, so if don't like licorice maybe pass on this one. For me, I quite like it and it is a really nice addition to the collection.

Mc1995

Awesome scent, great men’s fragrance. However...I would honestly just go for Lolita Lempicka for women, the original one, it’s much sweeter however they are like the same scent it’s just more candy sweet and fresh, but more longevity than this one for men ‘Au Masculin’ it’s like the women’s one, watered down. Both classics though.

hellogoddag

After I got used to the Eau de Minut-flanker, this original Au Masculin seems much more heavy on almonds than I realized before. Almond syrup cookies with licorice booze.

TeachOlfactoryArt

Moon Scent say it best: this is THE benchmark, totally original, still unmatched, star anise and licorice fragrance. I only owned 1 original batch bottle when it came out. I got mad compliments on it.

Nothing like it then or now. Authentic sharply sweet but not gourmand licorice.

RussBird1982

Original version (spray in cap) smells a bit like a cross between Play Dough and JPG Le Male, to the unsuspecting I think most would say it's a Le Male flanker. More of a night time fragrance although I can't see this being my first choice given my collection. I'd only wear this if I was dressing down to go out (I'm 38).

Mc1995

Very good, however annoying that it’s almost identical to Versace ‘The Dreamer’ even though there is no lavender in this one, they smell extremely similar, I almost prefer the women’s Lolita Lempicka over this though because again they are almost the same this one just eliminates the sweetness and longevity

pretty mini collector

Though this is made for men, I wear it and love it. It starts with a cinnamon toast scent that I’ve only experienced once before with Tocca’s Brigitte. Then I get a medicinal licorice, followed by candy black licorice and woods. Next, more woods and a bit of citrus. There’s a almond-cherry soft woods phase, and finishes with more cinnamon toast and something a little sharp. Not too intense, nice projection.

AVATAR

Finally, a bottle of Lolita Lempicka Au Masculin fragrance fall in the palm of my hand. This is very well blended perfume and evolves from slightly harsh licorice opening with 6 feet radiuses sillage to a nice and soft anise after 4 to 5 hours and afterward you will start smelling hint of vanilla and almond as well. Au Masculin in the air is not so masculine, but in close encounter such as hugging, it’s very masculine scent.

If you have heavy hand on the trigger you may suffocate people around you in the first couple of hours, especially in close areas such as car or elevator. So be careful and apply responsibly … lol

Overall rating 7.5

MoonScent

What to say... This is a star anise/licorice enthusiasts dream fragrance. I was lucky enough to get the first formulation. The anise/licorice last for most the duration of the fragrance. It is sophisticated and rich enough to appeal for 'non licorice lovers'. It got a nice candy-like dark licorice scent, that is just enchanting.

A lovely addictive scent, star anise and licorice seem to smell very well together in fragrance, gives it a sweet smell with a nice lingering depth!

Lolita does sweet scents so well and this is a versatile scent, summer, spring, wointer!

Longevity and sillage is great! around 6/7 hours and sillsage lats roughly same amount of time!

This is hands down my all-time favorite. It's not necessarily one I wear all the time, especially now that you can't find it anymore. The more I wear it, the more I appreciate just how well done it is.

When you first apply, you get a very thorny, green scent that has a very distinguishable anise quality. At this point, the fragrance doesn't show too many signs of the sweetness which is to follow. The opening on this is really nice, but just wait, because it gets better with every second.

As it starts to settle in, you get a sort of nutty, boozy sweetness which is somewhat powdery - I imagine this is due to the violet. At this point, the true 'magic' of the fragrance kicks in. I know a great deal of this is probably owed to the marketing, but it definitely does have a sort of fairytale-like enchanting quality that makes you feel very whimsical and cozy.

This fragrance has amazing development. As you wear it throughout the day, it keeps your interest because of this fact. And as I mentioned before, the longer this is on your skin, the better it becomes.

This fragrance is often labeled as a colder weather scent. I do agree that the composition lends itself better to colder months, but I actually really like wearing this in warmer weather. If the sun is blazing overhead with 90 degree weather, you may have better choices, but I personally dig this stuff on a warm day. The heat really makes it come off nicely. I believe that there is enough freshness in this scent to keep it from becoming too cloying in all but the most extreme heat.

I would probably never wear this to work. It's very playful, and it's a bit on the romantic side, so it wouldn't really give off the vibe I'd be interested in projecting at work. To me, this is totally geared for dates, and possibly casual wear depending on the situation. It's not the kind of thing I'd put on just kickin' it with the boys, but if I were hitting the town with a girl, it would definitely suit that. Honestly, since it's so scarce now, I really only use it on special occasions. If I had an endless supply of this stuff, I'd wear it much more often.

You may be aware that Lolita Lempicka had lost its distributor or something, and had ceased production of its fragrances. They recently rereleased this scent under the new name 'Lempicka Homme'. I was really excited about this, since I was worried I would never get another bottle of Au Masculin. I ended up being pretty disappointed with the rerelease. It has a very similar note composition, but it's missing something that the original had. I want to give it more of a shot, but the original formula definitely smelled better. This also isn't just a matter of complaining about reformulations - Lolita Lempicka is pretty honest about the fact that it isn't exactly the same. I hope it will grow on me, because this was such an all-star fragrance, as were pretty much all of the masculine releases from this house.

You can still find bottles of this on eBay, and I highly recommend doing so if you can. This is something you should get your nose on.

Lolita Lempicka Au Masculin is an overlooked pièce de résistance of masculine perfumery!--I hadn't realized how wonderful this fragrance is until yesterday afternoon...I still can't believe it's been discontinued.

This perfume is so well-blended and masterfully crafted that I decided to get two bottles of it (50 ml. and 100 ml.). The aguardiente (hot water) vibe given by anise, licorice, and absinthe is balanced out perfectly by the floral, vetiver, and sandalwood accords, ingredients that prevent the perfume from being overly sweet, thus adding beauty and masculinity to the whole composition. Even though almond, vanilla, and praline notes are present, they don't compromise the harmony of the perfume; instead, they highlight its allure.

If you're a scent aficionado (or just a perfume enthusiast), Lolita Lempicka Au Masculin is totally worth having in your collection. My advice is to go get this delicious olfactory treat before it's gone forever.

RobbieX

A masterpiece of masculine fragrances. Licorice, vanilla freshness. It's powerful and beautiful. One of the best men's fragrances ever.

Meelosh

I have the one with the cap. At opening, it smells almost exactly as Greek beverage called "ouzo". After 10 minutes, it loses that alcoholic note and turns into fresh, sweet minty feeling (I know mint is not listed in the notes, but that is the feeling I get). Overall, very, very nice scent!

Overall, great great fragrance :)

Wearing this today and it's 45° outside. I swear I was wearing this wrong, had this bottle forever and wow I'm in like again. Definitely performs better in cooler temperatures, the vanilla and anise come out stronger and smells bolder and better. Give a great vibe and stills turns heads and has a long lasting effect. Compliment getter yes, good sillage and longevity yes! This is a good blind buy if you haven't already witnessed this juice. As always! Try it for yourself, everyone has different DNA!!!

the older bottles are golden.

stephen.patton

Never tried any lolitas scent and after reading all these reviews I have ordered a 5ml decant! I do like sweet scents but not overly sweet, I have a feeling I will enjoy this one, cant wait to test and will comment once I get a proper wearing! cheers¬!!!

I owned this fragrance like 10 years ago, it was a masterpiece the liquorice/vanilla combo was superb, but I bought a new bottle like four months ago, and the fragrance is totally different, a big disappointment cuz i really loved this one. Don’t know why companies loves to reformulate their fragrances, such a pity they ruined it completely there’s only a tiny hint of the great Lolita Lempicka Au Masculin in the dry down, even the lasting power is terrible... Big mistake, Huge mistake.

xaml

I do not understand what the enthusiasm about this fragrance is about. The small tester admittedly looks cute and there is a flair of fairytales about it. There also is something refreshing about the anise or licorice element, however it comes across as shaving cream with an anise or licorice scent and forgive me but that is one of these incredibly dull pillars of supposed masculinity which seems to have been spun for decades now yet which to me simply does not have what it takes to be intriguing and sensual.

a8k9

An amazing, licorice based, sweet fragrance. Sweet yet still masculine. A complex scent but easy on the nose.
Sillage is good but not offensive, longevity is also good.

I have a vintage bottle with the sprayer built into the top and a more recent batch with a bottle cap. It is true, there is a difference between the batches.

The vintage batch with the in-built sprayer is sweeter, more well-rounded and overall a better scent then the batches that have the bottle with a cap. There is also a very sweet initial, vanilla-ish, candy like smell that fades very quickly in the vintage bottle that the new bottle lacks. I'm not too sure what it is though.

I am also keen to smell the new Lolita Lempicka Homme, which on paper looks like a remake of this.

Overall, a lovely scent. Recommended to all gourmand lovers.

I like the idea of Lolita Lempicka Au Masculin in theory, seems like something that would be right up my alley. The sample I smelled reminded me of a 50-50 mix of the original Lolita Lempicka and sporty shower gel though. I'm not sure what version of LL AM it was, might even have been the Fraicheur version for all I know, but I was a bit disappointed.

Filosykos

Just picked up what must be the last batch of au masculin from Pacific creation.
Batch code 6G002 which is from '16.
Bottle does not have "frosted" details it is now all clear glass.
It smells wonderful as always.
These are the last classic versions of au masculin. You will not find them again.
New license is nocibe and the fragrances now are different with entirely different bottles.
Lempicka Homme is the new men's version with different notes. But should be similar because of the anise.

fragnewbie4109

Does anyone else think this scent is very similar to Mont Blanc Individuel? Same vibe in the drydown (after hour 2 or so, maybe? Hmmm? They are both great frags on their own merits, regardless.

cvaile

It breaks my heart that this was discontinued and that the stocks of this and all the AM flankers are apparently already depleted.

If you're a fan and you find a bottle, buy it on sight.

I am actually encouraged to see that the new men's fragrance still has the vanilla/licorice core of this one, but it does seem to be a drier fragrance overall as the praline note seems to have been removed. I am intrigued by the apparent prominence of the almond. and as a masculine floral note they could not have chosen better than to pump up the violet (in my pro-violet, heavily-biased opinion :), so the new one definitely looks like re-interpretation and a few steps in another direction.

kaziscent

Lolita Lempicka Au Masculin is an amazing perfume perfect for Spring, Autumn & Winter.
It is an evening wear and has a sexiness that is both magnificent and mysterious! I recently bout my third bottle and this scent definitely makes heads turn. Its notes of violet, ivy, basil, sandalwood, tonka bean and vanilla and quite prominent as it unfolds.

This is a wonderful scent, and I have always liked it. I do think, sadly, it is discontinued now :( On me, it is almost identical to Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male mixed with licorice candy. It is sweet, but not cloying. This scent, as most scents, can easily be worn by a man or woman! Longevity and Sillage are quite good. This is kind of a like or dislike scent, with little to no in between. It is not something I reach for daily, or even weekly...but when I do, I am happy!

joey.w

My absolute favourite fragrance. I own 3 bottles, one being the vintage formulation with the built in sprayer. Both are equally fantastic. The vintage being better by a small margin. It's a bit more.. "full" of a scent.

Licorice/Vanilla bomb. I wear it all year round, less so in summer. Absolutely fantastic. Body Kouros is a close second, a darker, edgy version of Lolita. Also worth checking out.

This is a stand out fragrance. Truely something special. 10/10

RobbieX

An amazing licorice and vanilla delightful fragrance with a sublime silage. This is a masterpiece and one of the nicest men's fragrances in the world.

patricks90

Yes it is since Pacific Creation lost the licence few months ago.

sulkyfellow

This reminds me of Body Kouros, as it feels kind of medicinal even though the notes appear to be different, but Annick Menardo is the nose behind both. Fairly sweet in the opening, I get licorice and aniseed, with some softness in the background. It settles down to a smooth boozy scent, which then reminds me of the Le Male because of the vanilla.
Good for cold weather, performance is pretty decent on recent formulation, I get over 8h on my skin. Projection is good for the first 2h, then I get a skin scent. Age: 20+. Occasion: casual, romantic, night

Molko

One of my favorite scent, when I don't know which perfume I wear, I pick Au Masculin, because it's fresh, spicy, sexy and not a typical mainstream fragrance. I ordered my 4th bottle. Unfortunately the sillage is really close to the skin, it's like a sweet water:D

Osusanna

I apply this when I want to smell like good and plenty candies. I find this quite unisex. To me, there is an underlying dry feel to this cologne, almost herbal. I really like it and find that it sits close to the skin on me. One of the better colognes marketed to men but more than appropriate for women.

sahlinisis

Where can I buy it? Can't find it anywhere, did they stop producing it?

Ryanmmas26

Simply put, this scent is a MASTERPIECE !

Lolita Lempicka is a scent thats rich, delicious, and has a really nice blend of sweetness but also some green freshness that’s make this a very well balanced scent ! The notes that stick out to me are the licorice and violet giving this a unique freshness, vanilla giving this a powdery sweetness, and the rum giving this a rich, seductive, sensual edge !

I personally fell in love with this instantly but I was a little unsure about how others would perceive it and then the first day I wore this my girlfriend instantly smelled this, complimented me and said this was a new favorite of all my colognes. ( Which surprised me because she hates licorice). Then the 2nd day I wore this I walking around town and a woman at a stoplight stopped me and asked me what I was wearing and wanted to know so she could buy it for her husband for Valentine’s Day. So this tells me people love it just as much as I do !!!

Performance on this is excellent and especially being that it cost me $25... It lasts me 10-16 hours and projects very well for about 4 hours and then for the duration of the scent your left with a nice scent bubble. It at no time becomes cloying or overbearing even though it has a lot of sweet notes.

Overall rating— 9.5 out of 10 !!!! This is now my favorite winter cologne in my collection and I can see this giving Aventus some competition on being my most complimented. Also for the price it’s easily the best bargain fragrance I’ve smelled to date and just in general 1 of the best smelling.

Sidenote— Sometimes when I smell this it smells like raisin rum ice cream and other times I smell this it reminds me of coconut shampoo.

Also ,I’m engaged now but damn I wish I had this scent when I was single as this is a lady killer and also very unique and will make you stand out among all the Aqua di Gios and 1 millions.

...and it smells amazing on girls too...

blumeprinz

A smirking, mischievous forest fairy prince with an air of arrogance in his stride (/flutter?)

Usually I hate licorice as a taste, but it captures my heart as a beautiful fresh spicy note in fragrances. Its sweet, cooling characteristic jolts me awake in the morning as I prepare to experience a full day's wearing of this quirky composition. So far, entering hour 5, it hasn't disappointed.

Violet, to my nose, always seems to evoke a magical, fairy tale quality. There's a particular powderiness to violet that stirs nostalgia for worlds never explored, for loves never realized. Perhaps it's because I once read that the violet flower is a smell that, once you detect its scent, you instantly forget what you smelt. It's tricky, it's sneaky, it's magic. It spurs obsessive quests to recover that one, elusive feeling. Here it combines with licorice, vanilla, and vetiver (a note I enjoy only in a supporting role, in limited quantities) to create an overall "sparkly" feel and drive home the magical effect.

I will say, per a review below, that I do pick up slight traces of Individuel, but only smelled directly on clothes. Sweet, slightly metallic, a tad dirty. The sillage is nothing but magic - spicy licorice, creamy vanilla, powdery violet, sharp vetiver magic. And I'll fall for this fantastic bastard every time.

Shawnnick

Love the strong liquorice note in the opening but the rest of the fragrance is a no for me unfortunately.Longevity isn't bad at all it's on my wrist 8 or so hours after applying. If that liquorice note had more power i'd buy this for sure.

js71

I find this very average, it smells like mont blanc individual with a bit of added anise or liquorice, disapointed as i had high hopes for this after reading the reviews, i was expecting a nice bit of vanilla but it all justs smells very synthetic. ah well, on with the search for the next masterpiece.

richmilton

My wife bought me LLAM (thank you honey) and although it's a little sweet, it's still undeniable a man's fragrance - and very nice scent for the professional modern man. I thought the licorice, anise and vanilla notes would make it unisex but that's not the case at all. The notes are blended so nicely, and it's a very unique scent in my collection. It has just enough wood (maybe cedar) and rum to bring out its masculine vibe. My wife loves this scent on me but she won't wear it herself because we prefer to wear different fragrances. I never understood couples that like to go out wearing the same fragrance. But to each their own, do what makes you happy. As for us, my wife prefers feminine scents on herself, and masculine scents on me, and that's what I like as well. LLAM will remain in my growing collection.

cvaile

I am still shocked at how much I am loving anise/licorice scents. It's never been a taste I've liked, but apparently I am enthralled with scents that use it.

I first discovered this via Cuba Black, which led to Azzaro Pour Homme, which has led me here. Where the APH/CB scent is a classically masculine dry/soapy offering (essentially a classic fougere with a hefty dose of anise - and light musk in the case of APH), this is another experience entirely.

I have the original LLAM as well as the Intense EDP flanker, and they are both masterful variations on the same theme, sweet creamy anise vanilla gourmand florals as comforting and cool as satin sheets in a crisp autumn breeze.

I'm so happy to have landed the uncapped LLAM bottle with the depresser built-in to what looks like an ice carving (I've seen some pictures of the EDT in what looks like capped bottles like the one I have for the Intense). Is this subconsciously why I feel cooler when I put it on? Probably yes, but I tell myself the scent has more to do with this impression. I find this one by far the lighter of the two, it has an ephemeral, powdery feel whereas the Intense has a thicker, heavier touch, making these an obvious daytime-to-evening transitional pairing (I love it when flankers are conceived in this manner).

I am a committed "seasonalist" - I try to limit the use of most of my scents to 1-2 seasons tops - for the reasons that: it helps me stretch each bottle out, and most enjoyably it allows me to continually "rediscover" so many scents I enjoy every three months - but this is one of those wildcard scents that will make this particularly challenging - I really think the body heat that accompanies warm weather enhances the performance of this one perfectly, but I feel like the notes themselves would be such a great experience in cooler weather. This will be a hard decision that I look forward to wrestling with.

Majah90

Got this fragrance for husband years ago..
I think its one of the most amazing perfumes i know about.
Romantic, masculine, sweet and sexy. I just love it on him!

Guinea54

This is a nice scent that combines the licorice anise smell with some soft vanilla.. I am not sure which version I have right now, but it doesn't smell as heavy as I remembered it. This is a decant so I don't have the bottle.. I think it smells nice and the licorice is well blended.. We all know licorice is in there so we are focused on it but if we didn't know it wouldn't be as profound..

This one seems versatile.. Like you could wear this in the spring/fall/winter and quite possibly the summer on cooler nights.. It really has a freshness about it now.. The licorice note almost acts as a "minty" accord and the vanilla and sweet/powdery notes aren't too thick. I think this EDT version could be considered a fresher scent now.

scent 4.5/5
Performance 3.5/5 currently..

Nikol2

Ok guys! This was a blind buy for me according to some reviews, that this can be used by woman. I must say, I love original LL for woman and now I love this new baby in my collection. Yes, sure it has vibe of masculinity, but who cares ;) Damn sexy scent!

LayneDad

Love this scent! Even my daughter loves to spray this on her, requesting me most of the time to spray it on me before I put her to bed! lol!

This is a very unisex fragrance, just like Fleur de Male. Very sweet, creamy, powdery kind of juice. Lasts me all day with 2 sprays.

This is my first bottle from the house of Lolita, so I'll try the other ones. Hope they don't disappoint!

Licorice and vanilla heaven.

fromthebayandaroundtheway

Licorice and vanilla just running like a jail break! Lolita Lempicka Au Masculin is just gourmandish fun in a bottle. The vanilla, and licorice are really enticing in the opening. Then as the tonka, almonds, pralines and rum show up to ramp up the sweetness, we get a feeling that this scent is just going to be licorice and vanilla with no relief. But instead of coming off as all vanilla and no filler... BOOM! The violet, ivy, basil, vetiver and sandalwood give this scent a nice earthy woody base, and the sweetness is cut. The base of this scent really comes off true to name; masculine with the cedar and labdanum playing off each other so well. I love this scent, it performs and evolves beautifully on my skin. This is to me one of the better cold weather scents and should be worn under a sweater and oxford shirt combo as you take in a coffee after catching an afternoon film at the cinema.

GustaveTheNose

this is based on a decant I received. The perfume starts very promising and unique with the anise and liquorice notes, but sadly its a skin scent from the beginning, zero projection. Im not sure if its due to reformulations as others say otherwise, but that was my experience with it

m.t.alkawa

A very lovely, unique and timeless perfume that, you keep re-discovering over and over again!

Annick Menardo has made some awesome creations Like Jaipur Homme, Bvlgari Black and Bois d'Argent for Dior, and of course Poison Hypnotic that set the course for sweet scents for decades! Lolita Lempicka Au Masculin was revolutionary, very unique, and was very daring when it first came out, it screamed uniqueness and quality, with the sillage and projection of the 90's scents.

The liqroice opening offers a very memorable and unique experience, it's something you'd never come across often, it keeps you wondering what's this?! it's edible yet classy and sophisticated, many niche houses has gourmand scents that smells like chocolate or caramel etc, but this was one of the very first to have this! i like to believe that from my avergage experience as a teen smelling mostly any perfume that i come across this was the most gourmand i've seen.

2 months ago i passed by a shop to find an old bottle of this scents on a dusty shelf, i had a price in mind, before asking and surprisingly it was almost half that price that i intended to pay so i did not hesitate, i checked the batch and it was 2003, being prepared to find the perfume gone bad, it wasn't, it was very similar to what i remember, but not as full-bodied and alive as it was, it's more of a flat scent, still pretty though, but the longevity is nothing, not even an hour on my skin, no matter how much i spray and i think that's due to the bad storage. I've bought many old perfumes before, some of them go bad and change in nature, some keep almost the same vibe but loose longevity which also happened with the Rochas Man i bought few months ago.

Over all, i'm still happy with it, i don't use it that much when going out, but i enjoy it on me, whenever there is a chance to use it.

Giotedesco2980

I was looking for a new fragrance and i found this online for a really good deal, and i read a bunch of good reviews, and i like the way licorice smells so i figured why not just blind buy it and give it a try, good price, been around for a while and good reviews, when i got it in the mail i was excited so i opened it and its a cool looking bottle, then i sprayed it on my wrist and first impression i was very disappointed, it was super strong and turned me off, but i told myself give it some time to dry down maybe it will get better, and it never did, it smelled the same 5 hours after i sprayed it, something made it smell really bad and after washing it off i could still smell it and i was getting annoyed, i was very disappointed but at least it was cheap.

Lockon

Man, this would smell good, minus the Licorice.
This would smell great.
I had to wash my hands asap...after the dry down.
Sillage & Longevity are awesome.
Just wished it smelled way better.

i hadnt seen this brand in my town until last week I found this in a shop.it was on the top shelf.today I decided to go there and buy this.so I did .when the seller brought it down a layer of dust had sat on it .he wiped it and I took a look at the batch code; it was surprisingly 2000 batch.i just bought it .taking it out,I saw its the built-in atomizer. I didnt think one day I could even see a lolita masculin , let alone a pre-reformulated nonremovable cap one. licorice is completely obviouse .it has a wierd smell.

RoyalPerez516

I just got my original formulation 1.7 bottle (cap is built in to the bottle, unlike the new one where cap is separate piece) and holy SH!T, this thing is a BEAST!! WOW!! I was not expecting it to be such a monster in longevity! I sprayed my arm about 7 hours ago and it is still VERY strong!

The juice itself, strong blast of liucorice/vanilla/anise in the beggining, very gourmand indeed. It stays this way for about a half hour, then the more woodsy notes start to show up.

the base is pretty straight forward vanilla, cedar and labdanum, I can pick those up very strongly in the dry down.

while I am not the biggest fan (if at all) of cedar, this fragrance will easily be in my top 10 winter fras for sure! I was looking forward to this one and it did not dissapoint! Next up, rochas man!

overall for au Masculin is a strong 8/10 - Lovely juice!

mati1706

My go to fragrance. It's strong, but that's what I'm looking it in fragrances. Delicious, sexy, mordern. It's "avant garde". Performance is powerfull. I had the original bottle, and now the one with the removable cap, and both have similar sillage and lasting. Notes are very well blended, making an addicting gourmand juice.

vonMises

Really I can't believe all the complainers here.

I have the new edition of this with the removable cap. If it were any more powerful three sprays would clear a building. And it goes 18 hours at least.

And it is perfect.

After the magnificent licorice Jesus on wheels opening the whole thing just decides to curl into a ball and die on my skin, becoming a mere copulation scent as it demands too much closeness to be perceived properly. I'm left with the aura of a sullen marshmallow man christened by milky attunement. Dainty.

Strat

Licorice and vanilla -- that's mostly what I'm smelling here. I love licorice and anise, but why do perfumers always feel compelled to mix them with vanilla?

I loathe vanilla - that's the thing -- it just makes me gag. It'd be great to encounter a licorice-dominant fragrance that didn't incorporate vanllla.

But whatever, I love licorice and since that's what dominates here, for $20, I'll live with the rest of it.

Albertos

Love it....nice bottle FANTASY!.. MAGIC AND FANTASY PERFUME..SWEET, SWEET.....LOVE IT. 10 STARS..MASTERPIECE...AND VERY LONG LASTING..OM LOVE!

Cellophane93

The first thing this reminded me of when I smelled it was Bvlgari Black, which is strange because they don't seem to have many shared notes beyond vanilla in the base. But to me, I get the same round, delicious rubbery note, and I'm seeing now that the nose behind both fragrances is Annick Menardo, so maybe there's just something signature in the blend? I dunno. At any rate, I got a tiny adorable bottle of this and I like it, even though I usually hate anything anise or licorice-leaning.

This reminds me of really good, expensive gummy candy. Like juicy licorice and vanilla and some deep green notes. It's sweet, but not over-the-top sweet, and it's quite full-bodied so it doesn't come across as too youthful. It doesn't come across as stereotypically masculine either, and I think this is for sure unisex (though who cares, really). I don't think I'd wear it for daytime/workplace use, as anise is one of the more divisive scents out there. But it's a nice one to wear around the house, or in the evening, and I can't stop sniffing it when I have it on my arm. Really interesting, really delicious and odd.

laknath_s

This fragrance is one of my treasured gems. One of the most memorable and enjoyable experiences I've had wearing a fragrance came with this one. It was the very first time I spritzed this fragrance on me. I was going to a restaurant which was located right next to a beach here in Sri Lanka. The opening primarily had me sniffing a harsh, vibrant and unapologetically in your face anise heavy accord. I enjoyed this opening and still do to this day, although I could see how it could be off putting to some. However, several hours having passed since I arrived at the restaurant, whilst sipping a nice cocktail, with a gentle, cool breeze blowing in my direction, I could feel a scent cloud around me exude with life. I felt as though I was enveloped by a magical aura. An aura of beautiful vanilla with a hint of anise. This lasted several hours, well into the wee hours of the following morning. Magical!

Thus far in my fragrance journey this is the only bottle of which I have purchased a back up bottle. The only negative thing I can say is that at times I get a slight synthetic plasticky note from this fragrance at the tail end of the dry down. Regardless of that minor gripe, I consider this to be one of the very best designer fragrances I've encountered. Unless you have an aversion to anise or vanilla, I can heartily recommend blind buying this fragrance. It's unique and unforgettable.

However, the two bottles I own are with the built in sprayer. I hear that it has recently been reformulated with the newer bottles having an external sprayer. So I'm not certain whether the new formulation (if it has been reformulated at all) is as good as the original formulation. Here's hoping it is.

Longevity: 10+ Hours
Projection & Silage : Scent cloud with atleast 3 feet of projection for 4 to 5 hours.

polly golightly

Dan21

I bought "Au masculin" based on so many positive reviews seen on YouTube(Dracdoc,Redolescence,robe08)
I always look for good fragrances with good performance, but in this case...
What can I say?
The smell is nice ,and is matching my expectations, even though, the licorice is not that strong that I wish it was
Do not see Le Male ,or The One,cause this one has it"s own way,
I don"t believe it has a similar drydown to Rochas Man,cause the coffee note is not here ,at all
I ,saddly, got the bottle with golden top, batch code 3 595200 113744,which gives me maybe 2 hours of soft projection and 4-5 of longevity
Can anyone tell me how and why they decide to reformulate fragrances, and always to worst
I never heard of a fragrance which was reformulated and got better1

divenegg

I'd rather drink it than wear it.

D1RTY

I just received it.

In the beginning for me it smells like Le Male JPG.

The dry down is amazing, sweet similar to Rochas man, so if you like Rochas man you will love this one!

JAYMZDEEN

It's sweet.. To me not overly sweet. It does have the black licorice dominate note.. But even if you dont like black licorice.. Its ok... I dont really love the opening of this. Its a bit awkward. But the dry down ... Its so nice! Its not overly masculine.. yet more masculine than feminine. Can definitely be pulled off by either sex though. I like this one alot. Not love... But very much like. I need some more time with this maybe. Give me a month ... Maybe itll reach the love plateau :) .

Benighted

Well, blind bought it on a whim, just because it was so cheap and I liked the notes in it. And what a beautiful fragrance it is, anise and liquorice in a sweet creamy bed of vanilla with some soft woods in the background. I suddenly got a craving for liquorice vanilla ice cream :D

I have a hard time stop sniffing my self all day when wearing this, and nice wafts of liquorice, vanilla and woods come at me from time to time. This is a great scent, and for the price you can find it, it's a steal, I almost feel bad to pay so little for this gem.

I have the reformulation with the gold cap, and I find the strength of the fragrance just right, I wouldn't want it any stronger, 3 sprays and I'm good for a whole day, now almost 12 hours later I still can feel it from an arm length away. Superb!

Has to be a solid 9/10, if I'd factor the price into the equation it would be a 10/10!

RAG1987

Managed to get a whole 100ml bottle of this in it's prereformulated form. Long lasting and beautiful smelling stuff. This is just with a back of hand and wrist spray. Washed my hands a few times and I can still smell it.

Has a thick strong, sweet and comforting smell. A bit like Bvlgari black but with an individual identity. Really like this.

Celeria

the best ever

RobbieX

It's sweet, it's licorice, it's vanilla, it's potent, it's fresh and....it's...........bloody gorgeous! One of my favorite fragrances of all time.

PaulGaltier79

Amazing Gourmand but longevity is poor, sillage moderate.

Hugo Montez

This one it's been a tricky one for me.
Sometimes i can't deal with the opening, sometimes i love it.
The opening reminds me of a deodorant.
I don't know if anyone can feel the same. But after an hour and a half the anise goes down and the vanilla comes to the top with the licorice to bring a "le male" vibe but more spicy and seductive.
I got great projection in the first 2-3 hours. Then it becomes more closer to the skin but not too much.
Longevity is very good too. 6-8 hours.

Longevity 8/10
Projection 8/10
Smell 8/10
Vrrsatillity 7/10 (I prefer using this on a cold night but you can put this on day too. Just dont use it in the high heat)
Overall 8/10

EDIT: This smells a lot like Bvlgari Black. The opening of Bvlgari Black has something that feels like Au masculin.

shavenonthedarkside

Let's make it short. Starts of like le male then changes to a smooth creamy version of le male that does not have the aggressive aroma of le male. BUT not the same as le male. Dry down is totally different. Can be worn all year depending on situation and location.

no-fi

This smells so delicious to me that I'm tempted to start nibbling at my wrists. Gourmand? More like the sweet, sweet smell of auto-cannibalism.

I first tried Au Masculin in its pre-reformulated form about seven years ago. I loved it instantly, but back then my then-girlfriend wore the women's Lolita, so I held off buying a bottle for fear of smelling too similar.

Fast-forward to 2016, and I've finally taken the plunge on a bottle for myself. It's reformulated, but smells exactly as I remember it - lots of soft vanilla, marzipan and aniseed. If the licorice scent was more pronounced in the original, then wow - it must have been explosive back in the day. Likewise longevity - if the reformulation doesn't last as long, the original must have been an absolute beast.

This is one of only a handful of 'softer' scents I have - my all-round favourite being Bleu de Chanel - and Au Masculin is definitely my favourite cold weather scent. Delightfully scrumptious - your tummy will rumble with jealousy when you wear this. Yum.

Asylumin

Sorry, but the reformulated one is a joke. Longevity and sillage are both weak. It's like the super cheap Cuba gold. Absolutely not an expensive feel like fragrance .

Molko

It's annoying enough that nowydays they're trading with watered perfumes. You like and get using a certain fragrance for years and booom, you buy a new bottle which is weaker than earlier (2012), such a shame...
I bought a new Au masculin tester (batch code-July 2015) because I ran out of it, the cap color is different-goldish and there is no paper with the notes on the bottle under the cap.
The juice itself is weaker, softer, lasting is slightly the same about 5-6 hours.

This is a masterpiece !!! Very underestimated. The opening is strong but the drydown it's fabulous, remind me a little bit YSL Body Kouros but LL au masculin is better. One of the best drydown!!! 9/10. I talk about old version without cap

wisconsinboy

Lolita, Rive Gauche, and Azzaro PH have the most distinct anise note in all of the fragrances I've smelled, Lolita being the most gourmand, Azzaro being the sweatiest, and Rive Gauche being the most classy. The extreme longevity of the anise note in Lolita is absolutely amazing. Lolita's anise, as well as Rive Gauche's, remind me of a licorice candy, "Snaps", that I used to be able to find at Walgreens.

libou

@ RobbieX: i'm sorry but the new version. Sillage and longevity are very very weak !!!

wh1msydevIant

Do you like the smell of rootbeer and licorice? Make that a bit sweeter, a lot darker and a lot sexier and you'll have this gem of a fragrance. A spot on 9/10. A definite must have!

Seattle Dweller

I had this five or six years ago, bottle shattered during a college move.

Rebought it January 2016. 1.7oz sells for under $20.

Long story short. I can't live without this fragrance. Lolita Lempicka Au Masculin is very special.

This is the darkest most Noirish night scent I know of that still remains sweet - this is the sweet scent for people who don't like sweet scents. And it does it without a musky/smokey vibe. The brilliant use of a licorice note (real or synthetic I don't care) and boosy rum qualities helps it smell powerful and unique.

If Tim Burton were to keep his actors in character on the set of a new movie - he would be spraying Lolita Lempicka Au Masculin all over the place.

Strong and long lasting, this is a love it or hate it fragance but if you keep an open mind about the licorice notes, it's a valuable addition to a diverse perfume collection.

Great responses from women and the newer formulations are blended so well I don't see it being offensive to anyone.

Buy it, own it love it!

Lolita Lempicka Au Masculin = 9/10

jotalopez

I prefer the reformulation over the original Au Masculin as the new version is much more wearable and versatile. I remember when I first smelled it back in 2000 and I didn't like it at all due to the licorice-vanilla overdose. IMO Au Masculin reformulation is a masterpiece. This one is not as sweet and annoying as the original, since the licorice-vanilla combo has been toned down resulting in a delicious, almost edible gourmand scent. It also has a noticeable absinthe accord not mentioned in the composition. Lolita Lempicka Au Masculin is undoubtedly a longevity monster, on my skin it lasts up to 10 hours. Though I'm more into niche scents, I'm totally enthralled by this beauty.

Update: I've changed my mind. Although the reformulation is not bad at all and has decent longevity there is a huge difference between this and the original Au Masculin. First, the drydown in the reformulation is pretty similar to JPG Le Male (which I hate), so it could be a big disappointment for fans of the original version. Secondly, the original Au Masculin (for better or worse) used to be a WOW kind of fragrance, the new one lacks the wow-factor. In a nutshell, most of reformulations have failed (and will continue to do so) in their attempt to overcome the original creations. Hopefully Lolita Lempicka will bring back the original Au Masculin,

Lolita Lempika Au Masculin 2000

nightcutter

I tried this a few years ago and couldn't tolerate the loud anise and liquorice notes.
But I've recently bought a bottle of the current formulation which is much tamer. Those noisy top notes now fade quickly which, is almost a shame to some extent because it now dries down rapidly to a sweet vanilla and tonka-like base that is reminiscent of (but nicer than) Armani Code.
This is very nice but a bit more anise and liquorice would have been good. Lol, be careful what you wish for! This is a good scent but isn't quite as interesting as it could have been due to reformulation.

Ale

I'm completely agree with Smora.Unique and romantic. I'd like the licorice note last longer. Good!

AMajeedQT

Smells like Cola jelly (gummy).

Sweet, softly spicy, powdery, & slightly sharp.

Could easily be unisex.

Not utterly impressed but I don't hate it either.

Augiegus

I like this fragrance but am cautious with it. It is very strong and projects very well. I went to the gym with the scent still on my shirt from the previous day (needed a t shirt to work out in and it was handy). I really noticed the scent during cardio and it made me feel a little sick. It was more the sweetness of the scent than the anise qualities.

The next time I wore it was a cooler night. It worked very well that night and I found myself comforted by the anise scent. After a couple hours it seemed to be lessened and a powdery vanilla vibe came into effect. It became very cozy and comforting. It should work wonders come winter.

Planet_X

That's like Hobbit's Grasslands on me! First and foremost basil&anise, then wormwood and licorice and strong cedar with rum... What I can say...I have never imagined I will discover such a gem among male ones, its like smell inside English Cotswolds thatched-roof cottage.
Sugar and spice and all things nice thats what Lolita Lempicka Masculin is made of - metaphorically saying))

Escoteric

Funny I am always reminded by women who I have dated and relative to the perfume they liked on me. So I should have three bottles, however one wishes it was a perfume I had for every woman....I dream on. This has a liquorice note, sweet and woodsy. This is the fragrance an elderly women seem to go for, on a younger male. Ooops I think I've said enough. It is a lovely fragrance, I have the older original fragrance and one reads here it has been reformulated. Sometimes if the recipe works don't tamper!

wisconsinboy

The bottle is cheap; it's a cute idea, but not well executed. On the other hand, it smells fantastic. The first time I wore it, the dry down reminded me a lot of "Le Male". The femme version is fantastic as well, easily unisex.

RobbieX

Just got a new bottle. It's now got a pull off cap and not a "built in" spray. Still a gorgeous licorice, anise and vanilla oriental. In my opinion, a little nicer than Body Kouros. Fabulous long lasting juice with excellent silage.

heckoez

zimatar

This reminds me so much of JPG Le Male around Y2K

dylan.kohout

Love this stuff! Reminds me of a sugared star anise dipped in vanilla. Great stuff! I love to wear this in the fall and spring when this mixes with the smells of the earth, it's just killer. Super cheap too which only makes this fragrance better! Get a bottle!

mschnabel666

I'm a girl who LOVES LL and all it's flankers! I'm obsessed with it. So.... due to the reviews of the Au Masculin... I tried a cheap $22 tester from ebay. I got the push down spray (no cap) so that is the original version I hope?
On cloth/paper.... it's just a very fresh, clean licorice scent. Def way too masculine/sharp for me. BUT... I will try it on my skin when I get home. My fiance will get it if I find it too manly for me. If it ends up creamier/sweeter on me, I'll give it a go, I want a vanilla, licorice, praline, strong scent, but this is very very fresh/sporty like mens shaving cream with licorice thrown in. No gourmand here so far.
On my skin, it's more pleasant/sweeter, but I gave it to my fiance, who said it's nice and "woody" :)
I may steal a spray or two to layer with the original LL, it made that one pop better. (I must have the Premier reformulation because my original LL is kinda weak.)

lance059

Unfortunately I have the reformulated version with the pull off cap. Its a nice scent but sillage is very poor for a frag that shouldnt with its note composition. Although it could be a scent that gives olfactory fatigue as I have gotten comments tho I felt it had gone. And it can be fairly noticed on your clothes the next day.

Im on the fence of whether to hunt down an original formulation or try a substitute like the Illusion Noires version or YSL Body Kouros. Tho Ive read that Body Kouros has also been reformulated down. Theyd both be blind buys if I choose to as Lolita Lempicka for men and Body Kouros arent carried in stores in my area.

Chicago Tony T

Lucky for me that I have the old version. Performance is outstanding but it can be overbearing at times. Best used in fall/winter or cool spring days. With majority of the gourmand notes dominating it is quite surprise that the boozy notes appears the dry down giving it a nice masculine touch. Women should feel very comfortable wearing this as well.

xoxcrista

2 Christmastimes ago, I purchased a fresh bottle for my dad. He loves it. The most prominent notes would be the anise and vanilla, it really smells like an English bookshop that happens to serve.... brandy? Its hard not to like this, boozey smells are usually gross and sour to my nose but this one is done quite right. Even my little brother has taken to wearing it.
Just the other day when I visited them, my dad walked up to me and commented "Hey, we LOVE that cologne you bought! This stuff" To which I replied "Yeah. Lolita Lempicka, it's French!" They use it quite often, almost gone now.
Definitely better for colder months. It's unique for a men's scent.

alice.livings

I found a bottle of this at a local market and took it home, ostensibly for my husband, but really for me. For a masculine it is quite a sweet gourmand, with the strong vanilla and musk notes supporting a powerful liquorice and aniseed duet. My husband was not a fan, preferring a more traditionally masculine scent, but I found it quite unusual and rather appealing.

ZELJO

A spring beast, perfect for not too hot spring days like today, smells lkie an orgy, with all the licor, sexy sexy sexy, a smells than awakes up the sexual desire

Romain shk

when was this reformulated? i just got a bottle today for 25Euros 100ml but i dont know which version is it.
The code is 0p031. I sprayed it like twice on my wrist and to me it is exactly like Body Kouros on steroids. It is almost 3 hours and its now a skin scent.

But can some one guide me.

siririschmoos

I am not a licorice person and not that big into anise.
This just does not seem like a great masculine scent, sorta feminine and comes across more as a daily, uneventful type of wearer.

It's interesting, when I've been in a group of people and the subject of favorite treat or candy comes up they eventually come around to their least favorite treat. Licorice is usually number one, they mention the taste and smell of it, I'm right there with them, black licorice has a medicinal smell and taste to it.

This just does not come across as a "special events" or "make an impression" type of cologne for men.

Glad I only purchased a miniature.

timkal69

Finally got my hands on this gem after procrastinating over getting it for some time now. Well, right from the start this fragrance bawls masculinity, it is certainly the epitome of macho, it's sweet and spicy in a very macho composition. It has certainly lived up to its hype I must say but I feel it is quite very similar to Le Male... it gives me that Le Male feel to say the least and I very much prefer this than Le Male.

UPDATE: The dry down is amazingly out of this world, it kind of reminds me of a richer more refine 212 Sexy... its certainly a keeper. I really love this fragrance.

petranfx

the new version is long lasting with no so good projection.more than a romatnick long lasting close to the skin scent.to sad if you are 198 years old and you want to go to the bars

vonMises

Funny thing. The older reviews say this can become cloying. The newer reviewers tend to say it is too weak (in the later version). I have the newer version, which to me is just right.

An excellent composition.

Gutipon

I sample the gold cap version, the sillage is bad, longevity still good.
i really like i... LOVE IT!
Well balance sweetness with some mature evolution in the skin.

Please, buy the Old version, the new one is no bueno.

Moonlitknight

This, to my taste, is a watered down version of Le Male, not much to say really.Pour a bottle of Le Male in a pitcher, 3 bottles of alcohol and voila!! you have 4 bottles of Lolita Lempicka Au Masculin!!

fresh_scents

It's a tolerable and cheap synthetic licorice smell that I will never purchase again. I am glad that I only have a small bottle to use or donate.

secamel

Not for men. I mean, for some men. For me it's just perfect. Maybe I enjoy nice smells and think stereotypes are stupid like most of the things we worry about. Wear it and maybe cry a little just to piss people off.

KIDKID

amir68

I had the old version and reviewed it also. Very pleasant , seductive, masculin n cozy scent. I enjoyed it a lot especially in fall. It had a rich aroma, character and charisma and you could easily sense the quallity from the first spray. But now, yes it has been reformulated!!! The bottle with the gold cap looks very silly. The scent is poor and does not hold same gem. Longevity and projection is poor also. I´m sorry..not cool

Layton S

To me this is like a black jelly bean version of JPG Le Male. It's not bad but I don't think it's that great either.

Freshguy_twan

Dry down spells similar to Burberry Men on my skin. Great silliage and longevity 8+ hours. Overall very nice frag.... Cheapie also ☺

Shaheen

The smell of this one is easy to describe: Black licorice cookie. Actually, it's more complex than that. Imagine a licorice cookie with anise, vanilla, rum, praline, violet, and ivy. That's Lolita Lempicka Au Masculin. A wonderful, delicious winter gourmand. Has a powdery vanillic base.

Dodgy

I had this quite some time ago andreally liked it, though I do tend to agree with other posters assertion that it is quite transient.

I recall it as a delicate, violet fragrnace, and quite feminine, which I was very happy with but which might leave some men non-plussed

richtea

Recently tried Lolita's Au Masculin and after some thought i'm afraid overall its not for me
The fragrance has a certain something that is different to many other mainstream edt's but i found the Anise and Licorice notes a little too astringent when first applied
There is a transformation after a while when the top notes fade off and a vanilla marshmallow effect is left
The Licorice and Anise are still faintly there though
The drydown wasnt as strong as i expected and despite the change to a softer sweeter finish the sillage and projection om myself where not very strong or long lasting
I think its a decent construction and very daring in the top notes but i would advise not to blind buy

libou

do not buy the version with the cap. this is crap. more than 50 spray on my skin and my clothes, the sillage is very very poor, close to skin. disappointed

jaybear

The licorice blast in the top notes is huge, lovely licorice of smoky and herbal sort. After a while the licorice fades away and the smokiness starts to resemble burnt wood and rubber. There's always some sweetness and a good amount of spices in the background. In a few hours the vanilla-scented woody base comes forward. Sillage and longevity are good. All in all this reminds me of Bulgari Black in a way. It has to be the burnt rubber note, but Au Masculin has spices and sweetness where Black has flowery notes. A very good fragrance, indeed.

Edit:

I just realised Black and Au Masculin are both composed by Annick Ménardo. Funny! She's such a great nose.

mildspicej17u55l

All I can say is this, heaven in a bottle. It's so smooth, sensual, sexy and dark. In a way it is like the women's but don't let that turn you away. The women's is semi masculine in itself. Like the women's it has that smoky, smoldering wood smell with licorice but the vanilla in this is more intense and theres a lot more spice. If you're a huge fan of Le Male by Jean Paul Gaultier, Pi by Givenchy, or 1 Million by Paco Rabanne, this is a must have. I am so happy to have this as an addition to my collection.

starmerj

This to my nose is actually very similar to the ladies Le Premier Parfum counterpart, but with less of the "candy-like" violet and a bit more woodiness.

Although this is marketed as the men's version, it's still very unisex.
As you would expect, this one does smell more masculine than Le Premier Parfum.

Just like the ladies, this is very sweet. It's mostly a liquorice, anise and vanilla fragrance.
Unlike the ladies, this gradually becomes a woody-vanilla scent.
I think it's the woody undertone that makes this one more masculine and separates it from it's female counterpart.

This fragrance lasts a long time (about eight to ten hours) and is quite strong in terms of projection.
Be careful not to spray too much of this, as it can become cloying very easily.

Please don't be put off by the fact that I've compared it so much to the ladies version, because this is not a feminine fragrance.
I've always thought that, if a fragrance house is going to release "his 'n' her's" fragrances, then those two fragrances should share very similar DNA.
I think that Lolita Lempicka have definitely done that with Le Premier Parfum and Au Masculin. They're very complimentary to each other.

Svezzy

I bought this years ago, I love the deodorant. The perfum with A-men is one of the most powerful I've ever tried, it last even showering.
I like it but sometimes is too much, be warned if you spray not to exagerate. lol

Jitterbug Perfume Lover

Funny how unassuming that bottle is. I feel so silly because I've been on a quest to find my perfect absinthe scent and there it was in my perfume cabinet the entire time. I knew I loved this scent already, but I had no idea why and now that I can pick out the notes better, I realize that it's because of the anise and wormwood.

Ok, IDK if I'm lucky or unlucky but I did smell the original pre-reform version. I sampled it and then shopped for a few hours and couldn't remember where I sampled it. That entire day, all I did was obsessively smell my wrists and then I'd tear up trying to remember where that dang place was that I sampled it. By the time I remembered, I was too far away to go back and get it. Then, I finally got around to buying it online, but by that time, it was reformulated. No matter, it's still amazing. It was, as Nigel in Spinal Tap said, Level 11 in terms of vanilla and licorice before the reform, which would NOT have scared true gourmand fans away, but I can see how the general public must have run away in fear. The reform is a much tamer version, although still pretty loud for most.

Here are the notes from my little insert: Ivy, Anise, Absinth, Violet, Barley water, Rum, Cedar, Rockrose, Tonka Bean, and Vanilla.

It opens with a boozy rum on top of the licoriced violets that you already know from the original Lolita Lempicka for women. With that combination, it reads on my skin like a cherried tobacco rum with licorice. It's a cold rum, smoky and flowery, but at the same time, that gorgeous violet dances around like green fairy Absinthe is known for. The heart is when the ivy/absinthe and cedar come out but they are balanced by the vanilla, Tonka, and anise, the entire heart reads as heavy but intensely sweet, which is EXACTLY how the drink is! The dry down is cedar and vanilla, but honestly, by the time you get to the dry down, you're ready for another spritz.

This fragrance is the only one that has truly captured both the heart and soul of the experience of drinking absinthe, as well as the actual smell of it. It has all of the contrasts - heavy/light, boozy/airy, and anchored/free. This is an absolute love; top 5 favorite and my #1 holy grail Absinthe fragrance. I think more people would try it if it was marketed as unisex

The licorice opening is excellent, and paired with a realistic vanilla. After a few hours, the licorice dissipates and leaves with the vanilla with a little bit of burnt sugar. Not a bad scent at all, I was just a little disappointed that in the end, vanilla was what I was mostly left with. I mean, I like the smell of vanilla, but it is everywhere.
It's still a good scent, and if you're a fan of vanilla and licorice, there should be nothing to stop you from trying it.

Top and middle notes are really good ! I like very much the licory and anise so that fits well for me. BUT after 3 hours I only smell vanilla...

This review is for the current version of Au masculin with the detachable cap. Now reading the reviews of the vintage version (which I have not smelled)the impression I got was of a sweet gourmand with licorice, praline and vanilla, etc. Now in the current version upon spraying, I get a good blast of licorice and a strong violet and then it pretty much continues in a linear path, turning mostly into a boozy violet, which I am assuming is the rum, and vanilla with some leather even though it is not listed. In fact it smells very similar to the new Dior Fahrenheit Le Parfum which I had tested a couple of weeks back. I do not smell praline or tonka in any major way and I would not classify this as a gourmand. Maybe they changed the notes in the reformulation but it does not match the notes given above for sure. In my opinion, Au masculin in it's current version could well be a pretty, much cheaper Fahrenheit flanker, which for me is a good thing since I love Fahrenheit but might not be the case for you if you make a blind buy purely going by the notes listed above. I am curious now to get my hands on a vintage one. Any how, projection and sillage is pretty decent and longevity is a good 5 hours depending on sprays. I think it is Ideally more suited for colder weather but it seems to work well enough for summer nights as well with restrained spraying. Au Masculin is not what I was expecting but it is pretty good for what it is now. A nice violet and vanilla with licorice on top. I like it. 8/10

Edit :- Upon repeated wearings, I may have become anosmic to some of the notes because I mostly smell licorice now with some violet so if you are not a fan of licorice, might not be not much for you here. I like licorice as a note and I am waiting to try this in colder weather where I think it will probably shine better.

Edit 2 :- The licorice note when worn in hot weather smells a lot like coconut oil. If you live in south asia like I do, save this for the winter months unless you want coconut oil comments!! :-)

This fragrance has the most convincing absinthe smell I've ever come across. It has the sweetness that reminds me of burnt sugar used in the traditional Czech absinthe ritual and liquorice candy. Despite the decadence associated with the boozy notes, this is actually a very cozy non-aggressive smell you want to wear when you feel like playing nice (while staying naughty on the inside).

Edit:

I've bought EDT and my opinion is a little chanced, that is ...
EDT has some notes more clear than in Tester:
more vetiver and less pralines and rum...
Moreover,
- sillage: is romantic (I do not want to use weak in Lolita Lempicka fragrances)
- longevity: is still outstanding (after swimming session, shower and 12h before, it is whispers on my skin; and is doing well)
I wanted to be stronger, close to JPG and TM.
Now I understand the pictures in the advertisement :))

24h after first puff,..and still lingering
on my skin with vanilla and licorice.

amazing - sillage
mind-boggling - longevity
astonishing - parfume

Sweet, tender, romantic, gentle, fragile, complicated masculine

wonderful... Ohh my.... i did't mention... Vintage formula !

A very nice men's fragrance! A boyfriend of mine used to wear this, and I really loved it. It's a slightly spicier version of the original Lolita Lempicka, with a hint of something leathery in the dry down. This version is juicier and sexier, and is an interesting interpretation of a violet scent for men. It reminds me of a magical forest in the rain. I could see this being worn on a woman, too.

Velvet_Touch

I purchased this for my brother but decided to keep it for myself, with his consent. It is romantic, unique. I feel confident while wearing it. Now it is on sale on Strawberrynet, if anyone interested about it

After a long hesitation the Fragrantica members convinced me to order this. And now I'd like to thank you all! It is really what I've been looking for among the female perfumes but I couldn't find. It's definitely unisex, maybe a bit more feminine than masculine. All that inner strength and sensuality in this beautiful potion. Can't stop sniffing my wrist. All the most sensual, inviting and head turning ingredients in one bottle.
The opening is fresh, slightly green and sweet, like a warm summer evening breeze that's coming from the garden of Eden and bringing the memories about the original sin under an enchanted exotic tree. This makes you wonder and slowly liberates the senses and the mind. Then I really appreciate and enjoy that warm, gourmand mixture of almonds in rum (adult, sweet, slightly bitter) + a sophisticated leather which unchains all the fantasies (including all the naughty ones) and invites to realize them. And the base -intoxicating, dangerous, dark, deep unconsciousness. A never ending orgasm!
The scent of desire.

EdenH

after i bought the reformulated one,
i tested it today and and i'm kinda disappointed from the longevity and the sillage.
After only 2-3 hours it became a skin scent

but the scent itself is beautiful,
and it's now my favorite perfume.

Turtledove

This is delicious! Someone described it as tender and romantic, that's the perfect way to put it. It's sensitive rather than macho, totally snuggleable. It is pretty sweet, but it keeps out of girly territory IMO, I couldn't wear it myself.

As for how it smells, it has a touch of powdery vanilla on the surface, but beneath that there are the sweet spicy-herbal notes like anise and basil, warmed up just enough with something rounded and carmelized but not sugary. It's very smooth, and there's something in it that reminds me of the sweet herbal smell after it rains, which is probably the wild fennel we have here.

The sweetness is toned down by cool woody notes in the background, giving it some backbone, although it's still a soft/light kind of fragrance rather than assertive. It could be very cloying if overdone, but if it's used lightly, it's wonderful.

EdenH

bought this a few days ago
got the reformulated one (the one with the cap)
it has a good and unique scent
didn't tested its longevity and sillage

Zealous

For me, this one is complex. I get a clean soapy-like scent, slightly feminine. Seems to have decent projection and excellent longevity. While I love the scent, I use it lightly and infrequently in the office as I am concerned it may be a bit much for it's projection and feminine characteristics. I do love it for it's uniqueness and as a result purchased L'Eau Au Masculin Midnight version, which I have yet to receive.

aleksandar.dragas6

One of the most interesting fragrances ever, from bottle to smell! It was really a surprise for me, very delicious, strong, long lasting and soft at the same time. It think it will manage to stay good through the whole year, even in the summer :)

joao vila

i bought this perfume today, and is a winner..i did like it very much i believe it will not work so good in the summer days...almost made me feel like the first time i bought Diesel Fuel for life...( my fav perfume ever)

Unique, playful, sexy, childish, and almost edible bitter-sweet!

One of the most interesting perfumes I've come across. This is like walking through a fairy tale storybook. Think Hansel & Gretel, think a Midsummer Night's Dream, think Peter Pan, even Tim Burton. The marketing matches this very well I think.

This is centred on Liquorice, it has that sweet, herbal smell, as the liquorice is joined with Ivy and Basil and Anise and violet leaf, then soaked in rum, drying down to a chocolate and vanilla praline-like, almost nutty type smell. This really is unlike anything I've come across (especially for a man)!

I find it sweet, but not in that creamy cloying gourmand kind of way. To me, it's quite dark. The liquorice is paired with rum and has a kind of herbal, almost borderline medicinal smell. To me it's the opposite of creamy, it's like dry liquorice and anise flavoured alcohol. But don't let that put you off, it's done in a very nice way with the nutty, praline-like drydown. It's quite addictive.

I can see a lot of women liking this one. It plays on the mentality that women like sweet smells on a man (read: an edible quality). I can see this being great for clubbing as it will really cut through the atmosphere and is unlike ANY other smell out there. Annick Menardo is known for taking risks with male fragrances, she's known for being different, and this one certainly is unique. She also did Body Kouros for Yves Saint-Laurent and Bvlgari Black. I would say that this fragrance is a more playful, flirting version of Body Kouros, the other being more seriously seductive, this gives off a romantic and almost childishly playful-type vibe.

With that in mind, I could probably see this on a younger crowd, it would work really well there, but it's dry enough to work even on an older guy who wants something really different and unique that he won't smell anywhere else. For application I think using less sprays would be preferable, as not everyone would like the sweet quality this has to offer, and mainly for only night time use in the summer, but can be used anytime during the cooler seasons, just never on a very warm or exceedingly hot day.

Lolita Lempicka au Masculin is completely unique for a male fragrance! It's playful, sweet, flirtatious, and unlike anything out there for men. It really does feel magical... In a word, enchanting!

YogaRose

Men, do not underestimate this fragrance. As a woman, this scent is so appealing. During wintertime especially. My husband smells so amazing in this that I want to kiss him all over due to it's edible notes. If you want to win someone's kiss, this is a good one.

PS. I enjoyed wearing this too

Raidersteveo

I was reading the reviews below me prior to making my own and decided I would be lazy because I don't think I could sum this juice up any better than Houdini4. I think you hit the nail on the head. Wonderfully long lasting juice and as Houdini4 states "if you don't like licorice then don't even think about getting this." Licorice and vanilla are really the only notes I smell in this and as others have stated it is quite linear. I place this bottle with my gourmands as it fits appropriately in that genre. For those who like to layer their scents I think this would work very well as a base and then adding some woodsy notes such as vetiver or cedar. I haven't tried that yet but plant to soon and will report back my findings. Overall a pretty good value for the money.

rum

Yuck and Eau Hell No!!!!

Got this as a gift from a very special person in 2010, but I couldn't get to like it. Totally funky edge to this - bottle and designer brand, but I actually had to search for this fragrance online to see if it really was masculine.

The scent was irritating to the nose - made me sneeze and caused the asthmatics in the house to say how "bad" it was. Very industrialised scent; not natural at all.

Certainly wouldn't buy this.

Arlene-Beatrix

Funny thing that I like Lolita Lempicka Au Masculin more than any of Lolita's female fragrances! How is this possible? I don't know.
Au Masculin is very pleasant fragrance, deep, a bit woody, and I would say, little smoky. It reminds me also a forest smell in the morning, green and quite fresh, clean, like there was a brook just behind next tree.
Awesome fragrance.
I got miniature version of it and I know already that even if it is male fragrance, it is still my favourite of all Lolita Lempicka miniatures I have.

saurabhjodhani

There is ample of vanilla, anise and, chocolate here. The fragrance opens with the boozy rum and vanilla note and then after 15-30 minutes the boozy effect fades away giving way to anise and chocolate which are to stay till the very end. Vanilla and chocolate notes here make this a superb fragrance for winters. I really like the rum note in the beginning. Occasionally, I layer this with SJ Unforgivable for that extra citrus twist in summers. Blends well with it believe me! This review is of the bottle with attached cap. There is nothing too manly about this fragrance, so even women should try this.

pentamethylenediamide

A sweet, warm, gourmand and intense scent in which the almond radiates and shines on the skin from the beginning to the end.
This is Andy Warhol meets Johnny Depp meets Chris Martin. This is playful, romantic, young and warm. It`s like salsa music in a flower garden.
It`s a lovely perfume for men - delicate, sweet but not sticky sweet, distinguished with warmth and coziness that you would wear in a cold autumn or winter day with your girl in the park. It lasts very well on the skin (5,6h on me) and it`s got a considerable sillage. I can smell delicate silky vanilla, a healthy body of yummy almond, anise long hair, a little bit of rum on the lips, sandalwood like soft music in the background perfected with a beautiful glass of licorice. I can take this anywhere with me and get compliments and people asking me what kind of perfume is this. You just got to wear this with your neck handkerchief and red suede shoes. Although it`s a pretty linear perfume i like it the way it is. It`s so delicious that i don`t want it to change into something else. It`s sweet but not nasty sweet, it doesn`t give that EWW reaction like you`d get from A-Men. This lady surely knows what a sweet scent for men should be like - let`s not forget Bvlgari Black and Boucheron Jaipur. The bottle - i don`t like this although it`s easy to handle but the chromatic is nice. Definately will buy this again.

Sillage: lvl Priest

I recently bought this,liquore and vanilla.I love it,its a beautyfull scent.Long lasting,projection is decent.A good purchase for a fair price.I recomend.

Critic

I find this odd. Liquorice.

I get a strong, raw vanilla that stays flat and makes this a little boring.

It's okay but I don't love it. Still, a stellar winter performer with great longevity and wonderful sillage.

Javy_Medz

Nice little 1.7 with the cap separated from the bottle so I'm guessing its the reformulated stuff. This fragrance LEAPS. It's amazing! Licorice/anise is dominating this juice with a background of soft powder. Something i can deal with, unlike Infusion D'Homme which makes me think i bathed in baby wipes... really emasculating. Definitely unisex verging towards female but some women like that on their men. Definitely get a sample. A very tamed sweet fragrance. Indeed refreshing to the nose, gives a positive vibrant aura to the wearer.

Prominent notes on the new formulation are Absinthe, Vanilla, Ivy, Basil, some woods, minute Vetiver. (Not too experienced, can't really distinguish the wood scents apart.) I get no rum, no tonka, no almond, no violet, no praline, no labdanum.

This fragrance is incredibly long lasting.... basically to a fault. I say to a fault because this fragrance is quite linear. It's good for a day but smelling it twice in a row is quite hard to bear. Less is way more then you'll ever need with this.

Houdini4

This was a straight forward one for me...found it cheaply online as I'd come across it numerous times on my fragrance discussions/adventures and decided to blind buy.
A brave decision and something I almost never do but I couldn't find samples or even anywhere that sold this near me.
I'm so glad I did though, it's wonderful, dark, complex, bitter, sweet composition is perfect. It's masculine, almost gourmand, soft but strong it's quite the conundrum.
Right out of the gate I got a slight minty wave that fades almost as instantly as it appears out of the bottle. Then comes a lovely, thick liquorice note (bare in mind if you don't like liquorice, there's no way you will like this fragrance!) and behind that a base of dense woodiness and vanilla and a little almond which softens the whole thing.
Speaking of almond! I categorized Au Masculin with another fragrance in my collection, Cerruti 1881 Black which is similar but a little sweeter and the almond is the dominant note.

petranfx

the new version with the new cup has been reformulated?

StellaDiverFlynn

The opening of Lolita Lempicka au Masculin is like a licorice bomb! For the first few minutes it's at the limit of being pungent. However, once the licorice calms down, something herbaceous almost minty, some violet, along with the booziness of rum and the creamy sweetness of praline and vanilla, seep out and mellow into a harmony.

Comparing to its feminine counterpart, the woody aspects are more pronounced and the powderiness is tamed down a bit. For the first two hours, with two sprays, the sillage is already pretty strong. After about 4 hours, it melds extremely well with the skin into a romantic and cozy skin scent. The longevity is also excellent for an EDT, for around 9 hours.

This is definitely a gourmand scent, but not that sweet comparing to some other scents in the same category. For those who find the feminine version too cute and too fairytale, Au Masculin can be a good option, too. I'd definitely recommend it. At the same time, I think you'll have to like licorice to appreciate it better.

amir68

Absolutely beautiful scent. Really perfectly balanced frag from top to drydown its really gorgeous. Sweet but not candy sweet, gourmond, seductive. Think black liquorish n black jelly or type of tobacco feel to it. Its getting a bit cold here in Sweden now so I worn it yesterday and I´m wearing it today and as always I´m happy n got lots of compliments. Its really Masculin scent as far as scent goes.
Overall smell 8 out of 10

WOW, IN YOUR FACE this thing has teeth! When I smelled this THING, that I had sprayed onto my wrist it almost scared me! It was alive almost oozing down my arm... Once I regained my strength from shock... Thinking... This mad creation might just have something to consider. Oh my, a blast of Licorice/anise boozy white floral introduction fading slowly (very slowly) into a complex mixture of Rum infused nutty wood. This in my opinion is a dark Fragrance, something that crawled out of the bowels of an enchanted forest. You have to enjoy jelly beans! Yes the BLACK ones! Consider this thought... take melted black jelly beans mixed with vanilla extract from your microwave poring this over a pile of fresh Cedar shavings from a friendly lumber jack. You begin to stomp on it trying not to spill your Rum & Coke. Yes, I like this Fragrance but it is strong!.. Winter nights... YES!.. DO NOT BLIND BUY THIS... UNLESS YOU DREAM IN LICORICE! The woods in the dry down make it work... It may take a couple of uses to begin to enjoy this complex creature.

I also bought Lolita yesterday, and confirm that new bottle, cap. If they refolmuled they make mistake. But I must test fragnence. I did't know old version. So I'm very sad.

Answer Jamie1983:
Yes, they reformulated it. The original one is softer, smoother and fairy smell and longer lasting.
The reformulation has waaayyy more licorice without pralines and rum and leeeeessss basil, ivy and violet.
Such a shame for Lolita Lempicka they ruined a glorious parfume!
